Hi guys!
So, I stopped playing GW2 in february, and now, with this new expansion, I was wondering if it would be worth to buy it and start playing again. I only played for 5 months, and got a thief and ranger to lvl 80(but im still a noob =p).
Im a little bit worried, because I saw a lot of people saying that raids(which was something I was really looking forward to) are killing the game, making it too much “grindy”(even though i dont care too much about grinding).
So, what do you guys think?
it’s more than just the raids that are grindy, pretty much everything u need/want is time gated. If you have multiple characters, you will need to re-farm hero points to unlock each of the elite tree. But you are PvE-focused, then it’s all good for you, as Anet pretty much cater to that crowd now.
I’m not a hard core player. While I play a good number of hours per week, I’m also a senior citizen and the days when I had the reflexes for twitch gaming are in the past.
I find Fractals to be a lot more ‘hard core’ than HoT. I’ve played all the new metas successfully including TD. I would not nerf it one bit.
Raids though – I know that ArenaNet is trying to expand the market for the game. I’m not sure this is going to work. It may end up creating two incompatible groups of players in the game causing the community to become less friendly.
You’ve succeeded at TD? I’m genuinely impressed. You’re the first person I’ve seen since release who has said that they’ve personally succeeded the TD meta. I’ve been in quite a lot myself (full maps, commanders, everything), but have never seen it even get halfway. Or heard about it succeeding at all (until now).
Some part of me always knew that people have managed it, but seriously this is the first time I’ve seen it said. So congrats!

I’ve also had one success in TD since HOT was released. ONE. To say this meta event needs a nerf in an understatement. It’s funny how when the last zone meta event in on farm status yet TD is not.
Funny enough is that some started complain about it in spvp too. It made my day and looking forward to such amazing chatters in leagues <3

I just want to thank you for the video, it was helpful to finish this worst map I’ve ever played in a MMO for the past 15 years.

Besides, the ingenuity of these “dropped hints” is that they don’t have to do anything to string people along for another six months, and when you finally start wondering where the major overhaul is, they can simply point out that they never issued any statements about one.

Considered that the ex-lead WvW hasnt worked on anything since March before he left Anet, isn’t that enough fact that Anet has no intention to do anything about this game mode? Clearly they want to force people to do more PvE.
I feel with Raids they are addressing multiple issues they had with the game.
1.No real prestige gear – Old legendary weapons could be bought, FOTM weapons were RNG. There wasn’t really anything in the game that meant something other than having a lot of luck or a lot of money.
2.No hardcore end-game means bad PR – I’m willing to bet you there’s a LOT of players that haven’t touched GW2 because of the sorry state its instanced content was in.
With things providing very little challenge I’m willing to bet a lot of players simply passed GW2 and tried something else.
I think they’re trying to address this and maybe find a way to bring these people into the game.3.No long term goals to polarize the community and force people to improve.
Raids are great because they’re going to be a strong force driving people to get better at the game. It might be just a fraction – but it still will be there.All that being said – I have no doubt Raids will at one point get nerfed ( and I’ll be pleasantly surprised if they’re not) because the casuals are crying so hard.
How is raid a way of getting “better” at the game? All raiders are watching other “boss x killed” videos and find one raid comp that suits their group and go at. That’s not getting “better” at the game, it’s just copy cat, paint by the number procedure to legendary loot.
I don’t know if it’s just me, but I have been having the hardest time trying to get into a guild group for raids. These guilds I am in seem to have a “core” group, of which I can’t get into since it’s the Leader/Officers of the guilds, and then the second group that they want to form never has enough people for it.
Must be nice for those of you who get to raid nightly with your core guild raid groups. I hope someday I can raid too, I mean unless I wanna pug, but that’s not really the best option is it?
I was really excited about raids, but now HoT is getting my literally down in the dumps. Maybe I should drop this game and go play something else till Living World Season 3 comes out. :-(

Dont give Carver too much credit, he might’ve been the WvW dev, but all the things he has done for WvW were not great. Having someone clueless leading this part is pretty much what killed the WvW game mode.
How’s WvW at the very bottom of the list? Before HoT I remember lots of people said it’s good fun and people preferred to play there due no blobs but is it still fun now?
Anet didnt add ANY WvW new features into HOT release, what more proof do you want? From a business logic, what gets released tends to be what the company view as the “more important” aspect that will make them the most money. It is pretty clear what that vision is for HOT, WvW is NOT a priority.
And THe WvW lead has left the company (for an offer he cant refuse, but I dont buy it), it’s pretty clear the state of WvW is kittenED.
I moved from SBI to JQ last night and guess what I found? Enemies on the borderlands. It wasn’t just one little 10 man group, it was multiple groups of 20+. That’s something I had not seen in T3 since the release of HoT outside of reset night. 10/10 would transfer again.
that’s funny, I’ve been on JQ for a while, and even today at 9PM EST I didnt see one enemies at BLs. I did some of my WvW dailys and decided to go PvE again because EB’s ques are 40+.
Multiple group of 20+ enemies roaming in BL Maps? Really hard to believe.
That pretty much sums up why WvW didnt get any attention, either Anet decided to entirely abandon this game mode, or this guy got fired for coming with the terrible new BL maps.
Did you use lfg taxis to get to an organized VB night map?
Any of these usually kill all nighttime bosses.
If they don’t start axe immediately with the chopper phase, tag up, and spam map chat for people to come.

Yeah it’s really fun as a staff ele to get hit by 12k hammer hits from 1200 range from an heavy class. Great balance there.

I’ve waited for days but yet to find a map that attempts to kill this champion. Anyone else need this last kill for achievement and want to group up? I’ve parked a alt on the spot and really could use some help. I cant be the only one that want the achievement, right?
It happened to me in Tangled Depths. I was barely moving, it kept turning off immediately. I think it start to happen after I came out of the water.
Fixed after swapping to Shiro and cast Impossible Odds.

can anyone confirm if the stats of the item will erase the stats on the item that you apply this to? So if I put this on an ascended amulet, I will end up with crappier stats?
When I first started playing Rev I was like ‘kitten I can hit like a truck’ after a few lucky hits under the right conditions. It is rare to hit for anywhere near 10k in pvp. I hit someone once for 8k and freaked out. I don’t think I have seen 10k yet after over 2 weeks of pvp. If you stand at range and try to kite a Hammer Rev, you are the problem. Get in melee range and the hammer damage drops by 2/3.
those calling for nerfs like to add more number to damage output to “justify” their intention…

I’ve used my current one being the WvW pure offense with some small changes.
sword-sigil of strength
shield-sigil of air
hammer- sigil of fire+ sigil force
instead of Invocation, I run retribution like the 2nd build in there for some defense, along in devastation going assassin’s annihilation for sustain to keep that hp up.So far it works perfectly, doing from 7k to 20k with hammer(not AA but his 2# skill)
the hammer and sword’s AA does nice enough dps, Its best to stick with hammer since you want to get on the circle to avoid those wipes and free up some one to go melee, so you don’t lose any dps, just use sword/shield on his splitting phase or for healing, also don’t be afraid of using facet of chaos to knock back those red orbs doing dps on those in the circle, or keep that facet active to provide a perma protection to 5 people.

can anyone confirm if the this story chapter can be repeated, or each character can only do this once to receive 1 reward at the end? Does repeat the chapter again reward a different weapon?

The slots you can unlock are slots that will always be available regardless of your preference setting.
If you want to make sure you get PvE missions change your preference to PvE. In the guild window’s mission tab click on the gear/cog and set it to PvE. In 3 days you will just get PvE missions. You can also convert any leftover influence into favor at a rate of 10,000 influence -> 50 favor. There is a 500 favor limit when doing the conversion. I think that is per week.

guys, I know GS is a joke in competitive sPvP, but just curious if there’s a semi-viable build for casual PvX player (I played a bit of every game mode) that could work by switching some traits around? Would Staff/GS work?

I am on YB and agree with Tiffany… they were not empty. We routinely went to the map because it was a great place to find skirmishes at various camps and at spawn points. Many guilds never went to EBG since fighting there is heavily puggish. Now pretty much everyone goes to EBG or doesn’t play.
At the very least players would go there if EBG was full. Now seems players shuttle off to EotM or run around trying to make money while EBG is q’d. The new map has been horrible for skirmishing and almost all of the bigger fighting done there is PvD.
yep, real fightings are happening in EB, the new BLs are mostly for k-train zergs that pretend to care about WvW by PvDing.

I still wonder who thought it made sense to give an elite that can maintain permanent uptime on fury, a trait that doubles the effect of fury. Just seems like a really really odd choice.
Coming next warriors that can double the effect of might, and elementalist that can double the effect of protection.
But really all of them seem better then thier base class. And much harder to kill if that know what they are doing.
It’s a business decision. Anet is trying to make money by selling HOT expansion, not trying to please the players that join the game using core GW2. Of course they have make things better that are exclusive to HOT.
This is sad, even if I dont play sPvP at the competitive level that Chrono is not viable given the new Elite specialization skills from other classes/builds. At least I’m still thankful for Robert Gee’s traits update that gave this class few months of glory before the community called for nerfs.
May I trouble Any Necro experts to offer an alternative power GS/Staff build for casual sPvP and WvW?

I love the new maps. They feel so huge, and there’s so much potential for siege weapons… Too bad it’s a ghost town. Having 2 of the wvw dailies be impossible to complete (but still popping up almost every single day) is just the icing on the cake. I guess GW2 is just an e-sport now. Go pvp or go home. :-p

Right now no server can crack T1 since YB came back to life. If BG/JQ or YB/BG ganged up on the third server or if YBs player surge falters for 3+ weeks it could happen.
Unfortunately for FA, BG and YB would likely make any server coming into T1 a beat down experience. The population of both servers is running pretty heavy. Even JQ is fielding a map Q during NA Prime but cannot keep up with the numbers at least this week.
Im on JQ, and number of people showing up for WvW is lower than norm, I think if someone from T2 push hard enough, they just might drop JQ into T2…
Its just clearly unfinished, its quite unbelievable that they launched with it in this state.
and to think they left out all WvW features enhancements and still fail at this, it’s pretty sad.
- Herald/rev – mainly herald that needs some more nerfing. too much sustain/damage, potential cele ele step-in.
- Scrapper/engie – this is more alchemy’s fault than anything. HGH + elixir gun is pretty much a constant 20-25 stacks of might alone. nerf alchemy further (the HGH nerf literally made 0 difference with engineers now using hoelbrak).
- Dragonhunter/guardian – traps do way too much on their own. longbow damage is overtuned. dragon’s maw needs counter play; teleports like shadowstep should move you out of dragon’s maw without activating the CC, evasion stunbreaks like roll for iniative should move you through the CC as well instead of pretty much being useless. new virtues are stupidly strong. clear upgrades (not alternatives) from core, p2w.
- Druid/Ranger – staff autoattack hits too hard/fast. new pets (smokescale/bristleback) are absolutely ridiculous considering how much damage they output for being as tanky as they are, them completely outclassing core pets essentially makes them p2w. also slightly too much healing.
- Reaper/Necro – chill damage slightly overtuned.
- Elementalist/tempest – cele ele is still overtuned. that amulet should be gone already.
yep, all other classes besides your thief main requires changes. Judging from your post history, you want all other classes to be toned down so your thief can regain past glory.
Unfortunately for gamers looking for big scale PvP, WvW is on the decline. the new borderland map is a joke, ANet left out WvW new features with the HOT release (pretty obvious they dont give a kitten), and the next major content is raids, so the next WvW update is at least 3 to 6 months away, if ever.

Levelling masteries is a chore if you make it.
I’ve leveled basically all of my jungle masteries by PLAYING, without caring, and it was FUN to unlock new abilities and go back where I previously couldn’t.Of course sometimes I’ve wanted a mastery fast, and I’ve worked on it to unlock it (some occasional Spider farm or COF farm) but it was my choice to speed it up and thus I shouldn’t complain it was a chore, I wasn’t asked/supposed to.
EDIT the biggest mastery to unlock is a lvl 6 one and asks for 4kk+ exp. Pact6 (autoloot) for example. I wanted that one fast, and I went for a farm in COF, loaded up boosters (old exp booster, new exp booster, food/nour with exp, fireworks, killstreak): 2kexp per kill, pack of 12 every 10 secs max = 24k/10s = 2.4k/s.
Every minute is 144k
Every hours is 8.6kk
It’s not always possible to keep up this rate but AT LEAST you should expect 5kk/h.
So use boosters if you farm, 5h for a single mastery is nuts.My 2 copperz.

it’s near one of the jaka itzel pact encampments,you need bounceshrooms to reach it.
I mean, sure, people will say “but metroidvaniaaaaaaa >:(”,but the thing is: I don’t care about metroidvania when it’s behind grind, when I have to find the ice beams or space jump, sure, but “grind 8M exp for ley line gliding” isn’t fun

I’ve found marauder armour/amulet with berserker weapons/backpiece/rings/accessories worked well for me.
The damage loss ends up as something like 3-4% in exchange for the extra health.
I dont think I will create a 2nd set of ascended armor (too many toons), since I already made Berserker armor set, but all my jewelry are marauder… Is that less optimal than having Marauder armor + berserker jewlry?
