I think it’s one of the best designed skills honestly. It has a very noticeable tell. It’s potent as an elite, but has many ways to counter it (killing root, teleport, condi clear) more than any individual cc has.
My only problem with it is that certain ranged weapons can’t hit the root properly. That should be fixed. Beyond that, I think it’s a well designed elite.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Just start off allowing siphons, regen, and parasitic bond to work. If you really think 50HP per life blast is going to throw us over the edge well…
That’s with it traited. I think another thing people aren’t realizing is this really only helps builds thst trait for these things, thus giving up the damage say a typical condi or power necro has. More than anything this is a team play and leech build viability issue, hardly even affects (while solo 1v1) normal meta builds.
But yeah, as others have said. Necromancer’s need a real rehaul on Lifeforce. Reduced Life Force pool, easier build up, reduced % naturally decaying.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Just curious about people’s opinions here.
What if Putrid Explosion (Bone Fiend explosion skill) could critical based on the Necromancer’s crit % instead of the 4% from the bone minion?
Would be nice, but would open to a snowball effect. Sounds good, but knowing ANet, if they ever ended up making pets fully scale on stats, it’d end up being a net major nerf. :/
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
As I’ve always said, and Bhawb is getting at, fix the games design issues first, then balance around proper design. Don’t ignore design because of a false sense of balance.
it’s a nice suggestion, but I don’t think anet, let alone most game developers are willing to do that. So let’s be realistic instead of asking for a design overhaul.
It’s not a large leap, really. It’s well known that siphons are pretty kitten weak. Regen should work for us anyways. Keep the heal locked (obviously) and just TEST at least internally how it feels. I’m willing to bet just about anything that it won’t make a huge difference, but half our traits won’t feel counter to our class core mechanics. Its not a sweeping design change, these are fairly simple switches on their part… Heal in DS? (Yes)/No. Keep the Heal button locked. Test potency. Too high? Reduce healing of siphons from 50 (lol) to 42. Try again. It’s really not that hard of a concept, really.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I’ll give you a run down on everything we know.
That’s all we know. Good luck!

The fact you mentioned dragon rank makes me think OP is not so hot himself.
Big scawwwy dragons mm make mmmeee fwighteneded.
Hey, it’s not funny… It’s not a joke… That dragon is scary as hell, man. It shoots lightning…
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Leafdrop you’re such an angry person. As for the topic, you can make your own builds and get creative and make them work. But of course if you suck at making builds and suck at pvp, that’s not Anet’s fault. So many bad players QQ’ing on forums here lately.
Eh. If you are good at making builds, because builds are so logically made for synergy, and really do have a “best”, even without knowledge of the Meta you end up making a meta build… (of course, if you are good at making solid builds). I made, recently, a Survival Ranger axe/dagger sword/torch build, first time on a Ranger in like a year, had no clue what people play, turns out I almost made a 1:1 metabattle build with very slight variation, rofl… I thought I was being clever, didn’t even realize people ran axe frequently or a shortbowless condition build. If it’s good, chances are a close variation already exists on that page haha. Anything short of well thought out builds, you start to kitten yourself mechanically.
That said, I’m not sure what people are really upset about… Is it lack of credibility for good builds they made because someone else did it first? Is it a lack of synergy for some of their favorite spells that they label “no variety”? There seems to be a decent amount of builds out there that are usable, just unfortunately they often come to a logical conclusion and don’t offer much variation because #math and #synergy. Not sure that’s a big deal though…

Dagger: block and shadowstep or stealth skill
War will never have direct access to stealth, nor should we. We have a crapppy block on oh sword and shadow step is also highly unlikely.
Your other suggestion for a magical thrown boon attack or whatever, is also a nonstarter because we have no access to magic.
I’m sorry to pick on you, but this is a peeve of mine over time. Specializations are special and not the same class. Warriors have no access to magic, but a warrior specialization is not a warrior. A druid is by and large not a ranger. These are considered new “sub-classes”, and as such may take a slightly different identity.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
No matter how they balance the game, something will always be meta and certain things will not be viable. PvP in every game is like this. It could definitely better but its not ever going to be a truly “play what you want and you’re equal with everyone else” meta.
Frequent smaller buffs/nerfs can find “Borderline” placement. If you even look at Metabattle, you see areas of “x can be exchanged with y”, you want more of that. Obviously sometimes synergy is just too high to overlook, but finding new ways to allow for synergy through incremental tweaks would be great.
Unfortunately, with such slow balance updates, we’ve seen some hard swinging metas. Power/Bunk → Hard conditions → Bruiser central.
^ Those really aren’t normal meta changes, if you ask me.

Incoming major April 7th night time patch!
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Severe nerf to hybrid power/condition rampager builds. Apparently it was removed because people were complaining about it in PvP? Why didn’t they just change it for pvp then.
They did. They halved the duration in PVP. Then changed it all together.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Removing the stunbreak is silly! The cooldown needs to be increased back to 45 seconds but removing it is silly! Traited the stunbreak is at 23 seconds making it one of the shortest stunbreak cooldowns in the game and it resets at low health! The puddles should cap at 5! When you spawn a 6th puddle, the first puddle should disappear! Vee Wee has been saying this for a long time now! But nobody listens to Vee Wee!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
I’m for this.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I don’t think Terror will affect resistant targets because it suppresses the fear itself, acting as if it weren’t there. I could be wrong, but I’m pretty sure Terror will be suppressed as expected.
I called this oversight btw. I have irl texts to prove it that I sent to my gaming buddy. :P
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I’m fine with the heal BUTTON being blocked out. Siphons, regen, ally heals and so on being blocked is questionable design and I loathe it… So bad…
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
To be honest I don’t really care if my mesmer only gets 2 new skills. Quality not quantity all the rawr rawr rawr on the forums about this seems a little silly to me personally. It’s like saying why does Elementalist have 4 f skills and warrior only hve 1. Quality not quantity
Not to mention not a single person here knows that “people with offhands will get compensated” even means… Literally no point in complaining about this point until you know what the compensation is. Complain once you (you, being the public) figure it out if you still don’t like it…
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
What I’d prefer is that Slick Shoes can only knock down a single target once per cast, never more. Everything else about the skill in its current incarnation is fine, although I also think a cast time sort of like Caltrops wouldn’t be unwarranted.
I stepped onto Slick Shoes only twice so far, and that alone was my fault for being a lazy bum and “picking in nose” while running after engineer.
People need to start looking at what’s around them and what they are running into.
There is no reason to nerf a good and working skill in order to adapt it to bots who mindlessly auto follow even in circles their targets.
There is also no need to create a mentality that you have to work hard to land something on someone. There is a Dodge roll to avoid it.If not, then redesign game, add Accuracy and Evasion attributes which will partially fill the “cba” part of lazy players.
What class do you play? You make such blanket statements but I can guarantee you, not all classes can handle things equally. It might be “fine” for people with a lot of teleports or re-placing stun breakers (lightning reflexes) but some people do t have that luxury and it can be rather painful. I wouldn’t consider it necessarily “balanced” and just a “pay attention” issue. Engineer (specifically meta builds) have enough CC to root out some breaks, and OCS has a low cooldown. All it takes is minimal baiting and an OCS or even a nice net shot and it can be pretty well gg for some set ups if they take full advantage of it. More so in real team pvp. Itd be like if guardian could cast a hammer ring around you that was only like 50u in radius right on you and instantly that would knock you down even if you didn’t move. It’s really not “fine”.
That said. I wouldn’t know how to fix it because, honestly, engineers are pretty resistant to change it seems, and as Chaith said, it probably would just go away. (Not that I’d care, I think it’s a terribly made skill) Thats for the balance team to figure out. But yeah, it’s not always just a L2P issue. Engjneer have enough low cd CC to make strong use of slick shoes in many cases. Obviously it’s more powerful than people are willing to admit, or they wouldn’t have hard switched from the long-running elixir utility.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
it would realy help if target would get knocked down only when moving
These all sound like (and not surprisingly come from) thief ideals. I wouldn’t say it’d totally fix it for people who can’t just teleport around. It fixes it for you guys, but you’re by and large, not the only people who are affected by it. :P
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
As we know, rangers and necromancers are getting staves and greatswords respectively. This gives them both 5 new weapon skills. meanwhile, mesmers are getting a shield in their off hand, this gives them 2 new skills, and the recently datamined ele sword skills only showed main hand sword, which leaves 3 skills. This hardly seems fair for classes that are getting single handed weapons tbh.
Elementalists get 12 new skills *
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I dunno, I can read it either way. I guess we will have to wait and see. I’m personally betting its the gives 50% making it 30 overall. BUT crossing fingers for a flat 50% (though I would agree that could be a bit OP) mainly with staff auto attack giving constant fury (at least shown in the datamine).
4% base + Pack is 10% crit. Pack+Traits would fairly easily land a high Fury uptime alone. 70+10% = 80% near perma crit chance with a soldier amulet. (sPvP) Going deep into invocation, which I assume will be standard will fill in a little bit of ferocity. Sounds scary as kitten… But I’m willing to bet it’s not and that its only 30%.
Or maybe even Celestial for a Mace/Axe Celestial set up if the power scaling is decent enough.

I wonder if in the future, specializations could “reinvision” weapons to works differently, rather than JUST adding new ones. Like adding a “Paladin” guardian specialization that changed shield into a different type (either support or dps) instead of defense would be interesting, too. Some specializations that I could see seem locked out because the weapon types for them already exist… Hm…
I kind of doubt that simply because it would overshadow the early specs.
Who wants to choose to be a Druid that only gets a Staff and a few extra utilities when you can be a Hunter and get all your weapon skills changed.
I mean, obviously some people would want to use the original skills, but that’s what the base profession would be for.
As for future new professions… I mean, unless they don’t plan on adding another large expansion I don’t see how they could NOT do more professions. They’ve already stated that they don’t care to add new races because they don’t really offer much variety in playstyle. They have to add something new besides just specs, IMO.
Not all, one or two revisioned rather than 1 completely new. Like Poacher getting a revisioned Short bow or long bow. Since poacher was an idea they wanted as a unique class, it still could be but the weapons it’d likely use (unless they get rifle- cool with that too) would already be one they had. Ranger is just an example.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Everyone hates slick shoes. it is pretty much universal at this point.
My suggestion to nerf it is to remove the break stun off the toolbelt skills.
I think this is only fair seen as if you want to take such an OP 100-0 damage/cc skill then you should have to give up some survivability.
Thoughts?
Your suggestion would be effective if Engineers would still use Slick Shoes, and live with the lower survivability. But that underlying assumption is really not how it would work, I’ll explain:
Engineers (every profession?) are 100% unviable without a Stunbreak. No meta PvP build in the history of GW2 to my knowledge has endured the test of time without Stunbreaks. Slick Shoes could not exist where a Stunbreak should be, just as it was if we examine Engi builds of the past.
In the Engineer build creation process, your change would simply put Slick Shoes out of the ‘Stunbreak’ slot, and compete with a secondary kit. Exactly like Rocket Boots, Throw Mine, and Personal Battering Ram currently are (they’re all worse than Tool Kit or another secondary, and thus, junk). As good as Slick Shoes are, the Engineer would be forced to take another Stunbreak, and then drop a kit to put Slick Shoes back in.
Right now, running Slick Shoes all the time in PvP is a poor decision. Immobilize comps, DPS Guardians, and Entangle Rangers demands Elixir S be taken. The ‘Stunbreak metagame’ Engineers have is fairly balanced, with Slick Shoes and Elixir S being A Tier, E-Gun being B Tier, and Goggles and Thumper Turret being niche/troll.
In light of the Stability boon changes especially, a more practical way to nerf Slick Shoes would be to change how the utility spawns oil slicks. Perhaps reduce the number of puddles spawned, in perhaps a way that makes more Stunbreaks save the user from repeatedly getting knocked down.
Hope that helps put it in perspective, from an Engi player
When power creep ( and outgoing damage) wasn’t so ridicolous, there were clearly engi builds without stunbreak.
Nade-bomb-toolkit and nades-tool-rocket boots were a choice.
Don’t forget w/o the power creep we would still be in the bunker era. I wonder which is better.
What’s better would be a nice middle ground… Slightly less bursty but slightly more survival dps. Slightly less tanky bunkers that could do slightly more damage (not like celestial ele). just some nudges inward. And remove some of the instant crap in he game so the game was more act and react and less twitch break, that’d be great.
Of course, this is an opinion and not everyone will share it, but immortal players make for bad game design, but on the same token instsnt gib or be insta-gibbed (necro/thief/fresh air) is just as bad. A nice place where people die but actually having to react rather than following a fast-paced rotation would be golden.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Read what you’ve posted ‘eye on Necrocancer’ is that the best way you can talk about the profession ? using a horrible disease ?
Good lord… Get over it.
No need to, I feel fine with the current state of the profession
Was referring to the cancer part. Obvious a poke of fun.
Either way. You’re allowed to feel its fine. But objectively, its not. Rarely used (and almost never used to succeed) in high end tPvP, terrible for PVE, horrible “Group survivability” and a bad roamer with no mobility. I’m glad you’re happy with it. I wouldn’t want to take that away from you. But playing an apologetic hero doesn’t really change statistical facts and very clear design issues and short comings. I’ve played in the top 50 (up to spot 5 even, on the old more mmr-based leaderboards) with necro, I’ve used it in many parts of the game. It’s usable, but clearly has issues and has lost identity over the years since Beta. Being overly optimistic won’t fix anything.
But cheers for being happy man. But there’s no need to rub your contentment in peoples’ faces who have legitimate frustrations.

^ Minion Master/Spirit Ranger (Especially together) ran 0 stun breaks pre-nerfs and a different meta. Neither of which are really viable ‘now’ though.
But either way. I’m not sure removing the stunbreak is necessary. Honestly, I think the spell itself functions horribly. I wouldn’t know how to fix it without engineers getting all defensive and frustrated with me, but in reality, playing slip and slide on oil slicks is pretty kitten awful. Of course… I’m likely pretty biased considering I play necro and while 1v1 Engies can have a hard time with condition necros, necromancers in general are still incredibly susceptible to CC.
Also, Slick Shoes + Grenade F-ability is a frame eater and a half. (I know that’s not really a “balance” issue, but its still an issue).
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I’m pretty sure almost everyone will play Revenant when it drops, it’s the new thing so everyone is going to want to learn its abilities, traits etc. I’m not going to jump straight into it though, as I’m sure there will be a MILLION of them on day one. I’ll try it later, when the “Ohh new class, must use!” has died off. I’ll stick with my Necro for now.
Specializations will curb that a bit. It’s the one thing keeping my eye on Necrocancer.
Necrocancer really ? L2P Issues
What? o.O

I’ll be free pretty much all next week starting this Saturday.
Saturday it is then!
That’s when I’m free too haha.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Ugh, I wish I didn’t have midterms today, I really want to figure this out. If someone wants to test its HP, get two of you together in an unused PvP server. One of you grab minions, the other grab Blood is Power and get 50% boon duration to make the math easy. Write down the bleed damage with and without might, your total damage over the full duration of BiP = (might bleed damage + no might bleed damage) / 2 * 30s, and then pay attention to how many BiPs you need, and how many seconds you had left when it dies.
Flesh Golem should have roughly 13,000 HP in PvP without traiting, and bleeds will ignore toughness.
When are you free next? The next 2 days are class-heavy for me too, which is why I haven’t gotten to test any of this out yet, but it’s scaring me. normally, I’d just assume its because pets naturally are a bit squishy to aoe, but several reports of unusual squishiness does not please me at all! ><
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Grand master trait should be like earth armor or the original trait called shade. Check it out. That is grandmaster worthy.
What I’d do to just get to play with Shade on a modern power necro.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Why didnt flesh golem get a pulsing stability like the other elites?
Whoa, that’s a really good point…
Probably because it only gets Stability on Charge.
Should have still gotten multiple stacks.
Either way, 1 is a huge huge nerf to the poor thing.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)

This is pretty common. Unfortunately, many of our woes gets swept up in “team game” and “before are just very team dependent and placement dependent”. Which obviously has its own issues. Without going into a long rant, it’s common to feel this way. We do well if unchecked but are pretty easy to check. Best to play for fun rather than victory or perhaps test around with less popular builds to try to be semi-effective, yet more defensive.
I’ve recently played a bit of 6/4/0/0/4 celestial dagger wh/staff with LF on marks. It’s surprisingly effective, clearly lacking but it’s something different Snd slightly less squishy than the meta, so maybe it’s sonething to toy around with. Sorry you’re having a hard time!
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I’ll see if tonight, when I get home, if I can do some deeper testing into this and come up with any significant patterns to report. Currently, I had been pretty busy dealing with two other concerns/bugs, but after talking to Karl, I promised I’d keep it all under wraps so they can make design decisions properly and to not raise expectations for anyone where they shouldn’t be. Hopefully soon I’ll have more information to share but not yet. And it’s likely be a totally different thread.
Alas, later tonight I’ll see what I can figure out with Minions. Currently most of my testing has been strictly PvP and very little PvE (which while not perfect felt better than it did at the very least).
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
In addition to all of the info already given, I have a feeling no two classes will be getting the same new weapon. So far we know:
Ranger – Staff
Engi – Hammer
Mesmer – Shield
Necro – GS
Guardian – Longbow (supposedly, hinted in a WvW video)So far there is no overlap. If I had to guess I would say that no classes will be getting new primary 1 handers. They had an interview where they tried to drive home the fact that if you don’t get a 2 hander that the final 2 skills will be very impactful on the offhands.
Ele seems to be getting sword… Granted… 3 skills for Ele is actually 12 so there’s that…
I’m still thinking it will be a pistol OH. Warriors have been seen with them in more, they have lots of main handed weapons to work with it. No one else is getting it. And it makes the most general sense.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Make sure to turn on your Commander Tag. :X
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I thought it was better at first… Then things sort of went back to normal. I even had a few instances of pets not attacking even when Everyone was in range which was weird. It feels… Different, but far from fixed.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)

For everyone saying no class should be this strong in downstate, well no class should be able to revive themselves through use of a pet but then you have rangers. It’s a downstate form people, learn to deal with it. I would much much much rather have a mist form like elementalists or a port and stealth like a thief but no I have strong damage while in downstate, DEAL WITH IT.
Seriously? do you know how long does it takes a pet to revive? or to stand as a warrior? That Necro in the video killed a GUARD, yes a GUARD with more than 50% health in less than 3 secs. That is what we talking about here, DEAL WITH IT.
That’s what happens with all CDs down as a zerker with 14k hp unfortunately. That Chill of death would have hurt regardless. Not entirely defending it but it’s not that shocking either.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Wasn’t #BelieveinKarl a thing for a while?
Well, he’s been playing Necro recently. Now is the time to #BelieveInKarl. :P
I have a feeling at that time he was playing med guard. :P that’s when they got buffed into usefulness.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I wonder if in the future, specializations could “reinvision” weapons to works differently, rather than JUST adding new ones. Like adding a “Paladin” guardian specialization that changed shield into a different type (either support or dps) instead of defense would be interesting, too. Some specializations that I could see seem locked out because the weapon types for them already exist… Hm…
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I need a new legit Scythe, just an updated version of the scythe from Halloween. Not a super goofy “sort of” scythe like the gargoyle staff, but a good reaper scythe thats up to date for my melee Revenant! Do want.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Essentially, with a lot borrowed, new specializations are “new professions”. A druid is not a ranger, and will certainly not be a… Poacher, or whatever, later. I think now that armor weights are evened out, I’m pretty sure we’ll just see new sub-professions. But that’s fine too. I’d prefer 9 new sub-professions to a new class personally. I like the set up.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
i´m reading how everyone has these awesome elites , now even more awesome and i´m sitting here with my ele thinking “one day i will also get an elite which make ppl scared”…..instead of screaming “LICH UP, I´M MOA, kittenING CRATE” in ts , ppl will be screaming “FGS UP”, i know the day will come…
It came and went. Sorry you missed it.
I was going to say… How could you miss the FGS Flash-Rush one shots lol. That stuff was crazy.
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
I’m not expecting anything from it, but knowing that one of the head devs does have significant experience on a profession does mean a lot in its own right.
Yeah, and it’s recent. He seemed like a great guy, I had a lot of fun talking to him about miscellaneous things. But we talked about necro a bit, and he said he sees us, obviously. And he’s getting in his own experience. Of course, that can only mean so much, power and usefulness is really subjective. Either way, I think it’s nice he hit 1k on ALL classes. Gives me a lot of hope for the future. Obviously that took him a while to do, having just finished. HoT might be a good time for balance. Or at least… try to be. A lot of unknown variables and “hidden builds” will keep that from really happening until the dust settles, but its fun to look forward to. I have hope. I think GS will be used to address a lot of our major concerns. Though unfortunately, unless GS seems AMAZING and MM gets some pretty hefty changes, I’ll probably be on a Revenant at that point. :S
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)
Karl has been playing on his necromancer recently. Maybe he’ll see how bad it is and give us love? :P
Go Karl!
Who’s Karl and how do you know he’s been playing Necro (and why does it matter?).
I use this forum and reddit for GW2 information, do the devs post somewhere else?
There’s nothing in the class subforums about possible balancing or whatnot.
Karl is one of the head PvP devs.
While I too would like to see where you got this information, I am definitely glad to hear it.
I was just chitchatting with him yesterday in-game. I wouldn’t really expect tons of buffs, it’d be scary if the Devs rushed to buff whatever they played last haha. He just said though that he had been playing necromancer and finished his last set of 1k games on it. Everything else is inference, he at least played it a lot and might see our short comings. What he does or doesn’t do is a mystery. Either way, the only thing we can do is say GO KARL! And hope for love. :P
Warlord Sikari (80 Scrapper)

Or we could hunt him down and help him learn… I mean… have tea and discuss.
Karl’s honestly a good guy. He actually seems to communicate well one on one. He’s careful to say anything though for obvious reasons, but he had just finished 1k games on all classes apparently recently, last of which was his Necromancer. So maybe it’s our time! Maybe he sees our needs!
For now though, at least we have downstate build. Go 6/0/0/3/5 for max modifiers and Downstate1 people to death

I think Anet will have an hard work to balance classes with specializations with HoT.
I only hope in frequent balance patches (at least 1-2 months).
An expansion (based on earnings projection) might actually give them the required resources to do just that.
