Halloween Survey!

I have spend $20 on the event to buy the minis and the witches costume as well as some black lion keys.

Yes it has been worth it to me, I really enjoyed the items I bought.

I wanted the great saw skin a little but I admit it might have been mostly due to hype. One thing that I would have loved that wasn’t developed would be a mini of the costumed quaggas in lions arch.

My favorite part of the event has been the clock tower. I spent a long time on this ad when I finally finished I felt a genuine sense of accomplishment.

I have really enjoye this event and learned a lot about ANet as a company (developed my own opinions based on their actions as opposed to being influenced by others). I have enjoyed the entirety of this game more than any other and I will be purchasing future expansions and participating in events and purchases from the cash shop.

I don’t mean this to sound harsh, so please try not to take it that way. However, there a reason a disability is called a disability- it means that you will not have the same abilities at certain tasks as the general population. Accessability has its limits and no matter how many wheel chain ramps we build in the world there will just be some things people with limitations cannot do. I have a special needs brother so I understand this very well. It comes down to where we can draw the line. Does ANet isolate the blind community by not releasing an audio based version of this game? No. There are certain limitations to the amount of accessibility the community has a responsibility to offer, and being that a large part of guild wars is possible for people with these issues, they have fulfilled that duty. Should we just take out all the jumping puzzles because some people are incapable physically of doing them, or maybe just never actually make the game because some people will never able to play? Again, this was truly not meant to be derogatory and I can empathize with your frustration and disappointment however I don’t think that there is really a solution for them as a company to handle this without also isolating the advanced and casual gaming community that aren’t handicapped in any way.

I was playing on my laptop and I could NOT do it with the lag . I legitimately could not to it, I fell at the first gear every time. I switched to a desktop in my house and was playing at 65 GPS after that. It still took me a while but I got it much easier. So, my point is, if you’re having latency issues than it might truly not be your fault you can’t do it. I was lagging at 10-15 fps and it was not happening.

Edit: great post @mrsrachelm by the way

I laughed, I got pissed, I swore a lot and then I completed it and I felt more pride then the moment I got accepted to university.
I don’t see the issue. I spent a few hours doing this and i am an Ellie, I know tons of warriors who beat it much faster than I did, some even of their first few tries. I don’t understand everyone’s need for everything to be accessible to everyone. I feel better for knowing I didn’t give up and finished it when a lot of my guildies did. It’s things like this that make the game feel rewarding.

As you were writing that I was actually building one via the ibuypower site, here are the specs:

0 x iBUYPOWER Labs – Internal Expansion ( None )
1 x Processor ( AMD FX-6100 CPU (6x 3.30GHz/6MB L2 Cache) )
0 x iBUYPOWER PowerDrive ( None )
1 x Processor Cooling ( Liquid CPU Cooling System [AMD] – Standard 120mm Fan )
1 x Memory ( 8 GB [2 GB X4] DDR3-1600 Memory Module – Corsair or Major Brand )
1 x Video Card ( AMD Radeon HD 7870 – 2GB – Single Card )
1 x Motherboard ( ASUS M5A97 — AMD 970 )
1 x Power Supply ( 750 Watt – Corsair CX750 )
1 x Primary Hard Drive ( 1 TB HARD DRIVE — 32M Cache, 7200 RPM, 6.0Gb/s – Single Drive )
1 x Data Hard Drive ( 64 GB ADATA SP900 SSD – Single Drive )
1 x Optical Drive ( 24X Dual Format/Double Layer DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Drive – Black )

Any reccomendations for tweaking or an area that I can cut costs?

Edit: I do have someone who can do this for me. My step dad built his gaming computer by himself so this will definitely be an option for me since shipping to Canada is generally at least $100!

Thanks everyone for this feedback it has been really helpful. You have given me some good info to work off of.

@therantventure: I saw an asus at future shop which was only around $600 and the memory card was 2gb however I read something about the 2gb being a useless extra feature because the architecture of the card wasn’t up to par (so basically the 2gb was to get you to pay more). Is this a legitimate issue i should watch out for? I’m not familiar with the term “architecture”.

I’m not sure if this is the right section to ask this..
What I’m wondering is: I’ve been looking into getting a new gaming computer specifically for running GW2. The Alienware Aurora Intel Core i5-2320 Desktop is the one I have found in my price range that seems to have the best graphics quality etc.

I am significantly dumb at these things so I was hoping for some feedback and
suggestions. This is sitting at the absolute top of my price range ($1000) .I am currently playing on a Sony Vaio sitting at about 10-20 FPS on low settings which isn’t very fun.

This is the link to the computer and specs on the FutureShop website:

It’s hard for a lot of people to understand but I think when you’re dealing with handling a multi million dollar company you feel a lot differently about the tone things will be taken it. I have had posts wrongfully deleted, but instead of being upset I just consider that censorship isn’t an easy thing. Can you imagine how hard it is for Devs to come in here some days without just saying “we’ll kitten you then!”. They are not Gods, they are people too. An moderators are people with a job to do. I feel like this whole forum would be a lot nicer if people would just try to see things from different perspectives instead of going Internet crazy.

What kind of weird enjoyment do you get from trolling the forums just attempting to piss off the moderators and Devs? If someone came into your house and kitten on the carpet you’d tell them to get out, right? This is their house so they can do way they like. They want to keep it clean which is reasonable. There are plenty of user moderated forums you can go to.

I think that any reasonable person who would spend $20 and not get anything would realize that the drop rates are not very high. After that they would stop buying them. If $20 was a horrible loss for them financially they wouldn’t be spending it on a video game anyways. ANet stated that there was only a chance of getting a rare item. The definition of RARE pretty much implies that it won’t be given out like candy. There was zero trickery involved.

Yeah I understand. This has been brought up a lot and I can’t commit to 100% certainty but its very very likely that candy corn will not be expiring since it is needed in such abundant amounts for the craft-able weapon skin. I believe they stated that the nodes I harvest would be gone but the candy corn in circulation would be sticking around. Anyways, hope that helped a bit.

in Halloween Event

samrogan.9132

Yes I would have to agree with Tott.I don’t get all my candy a week before Halloween and I don’t expect to see everything ANet has to offer in the first part of the event. I understand hype often can lead to disappointment but it may be best to give them a fair chance at showing us what they’ve created before making harsh judgements.

Opinion: Costumes as Town Clothes = disappointing

in Halloween Event

Posted by: samrogan.9132

samrogan.9132

like i said, an option to trigger town clothes while in town (and a fix to not drop them whenever the slightest hint of combat shows) would solve that problem, even for roleplayers (i assume roleplaying still uses common sense, and that adventurers wear their combat gear when exploring :P)

This is a good option too. Allods Online did something really cool which will always resonate in my mind as a really rewarding thing for players. They gave you a timed chest upon character creation that started at, say, 30 seconds and the timer increased every time you opened it (30 seconds, one minute, 5 minutes, 1 hour etc.). The chests often contained a cosmetic gear item, however it looked like “fancy” I suppose armour skins. I seem to especially recall a very stereotypical and awesome archer hat with a feather; you could wear it over your armour if you chose. If ANet had some sort of system like this where your chest started with very common (yet unique) cosmetic gear skins or clothing and progressed as you levelled or your chest timer got higher I think this would make some of us (me), and the veteran players very happy campers.

My question is, throughout the Halloween acts that are being released this week will there be additional costumes and cosmetic items added to the trading post for gems? My intuition tells me yes because two costumes seems like not enough and I believe that I saw a costume that is not currently available in the sneak peek video. I was just curious if anyone knows the answer to this because I’m trying to decide whether to save my current gem stash or not.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I also watched this video and I believe he made some good points. I Have learned a lot about myself as a player. I don’t believe that this game has no hope of catering to these types of players though. I think there is a way to eliminate the grind but still have less player equality which may br the issue- i think the truth is that most people like to believe that because they put in time and effort that they are better than others. It is just human nature. Why do we study and work and buy ferraris and big houses and other status symbols if this isn’t true? Why would i study my kitten off if the whole class is getting an A? This isnt a bad thing it js just what drives us to work harder and put in more time to certain aspects of our life. For an mmo this ideally means put in more money. I truly believe that there is a way for ANet to fix this problem without too badly hurting the casual players. Do I think this game could be amazingly fun for everyone yet still have a hierarchy of players that have put more into the game as hardcore mmo players? Yes I do.

How can anyone be mad at a statement that includes a smiley face?! Impatient doesn’t necessarily have negative undertones, it is what we are, imparient from excitement and there is nothing wrong with that.
I can understand the frustration from those who have changed plans and waited up for this patch. I can also respect those who are so very positive an understand what a big push it is to release something like this. I think all of the opinions here are valid (except the ones asking them to change the time zones, like seriously, Internet anyone?).

I for one am very excited for this release and look forward to seeing all the amazing work the team has put in. I wish only that we could all be civilized humans and enjoy the excitement together!
