I would agree though that you are wrong about pve gear, let alone that you could get a full set of pve gear just from hotjoin or wvw zerging, and even the rank 60 from hotjoin. GW2 is better in that respect, in that the spvp is much more its own specialist thing.
Right now it does look that way, some have tried sword+torch in place of staff, usually if without a thief, but staff is such a great kite weapon and has chaos storm. Greatsword is very strong for the ranged damage, even just pressing 1 does good damage with air+fire sigils, let alone everything else.
This is without even getting into the shatter side of it, massive aoe damage on mindwrack (and with mirroblade/beserker putting them right on top of the enemy), boon stripping and the interrupt from diversion.
Well at least this is one way to put a pause for reconnect feature back on the agenda :p
It’s not about nerfing a counter as such, although I would say it is ridiculous to have such a hard counter of anything – and guardians certainly aren’t a hard counter of thieves, only if thief decides to stick in a 1v1 with a guardian and there is always the choice of thief to disengage.
Yeah had it team que few nights ago, been having it even in hotjoin (where at least character switch changes it, this doesn’t work for when it bugs team que though)
Well problem here is that it would also draw out fights massively, it’s not #esports level to dodge and kite around. Saying that I do agree rng damage is not good and bit too much power creep.
Maybe remove the rally from the NPC in the lordroom. If the enemy-team is downed and get the rally from one useless NPC there.,,,this is kind of a wtf-moment

You shouldn’t be allowed to rejoin a game once you leave or go spectator, either. Not until the match is over.

Well you would just leave at end of a game and rejoin, you wouldn’t have to stay until the next game actually starts.
They used to do this in GW1, in random arena you would keep same team if you won a game, if someone dropped out someone else from que would normally auto join, if you won 10 (if I remember right) in a row you would move to team que.
I will give another try to see if it’s at least bearable now.

Shatter is one of the best balanced specs in the game, a very high skill cap to reach with high reward when players can do it. If anything all the other class specs in the game should be using this as a template, high risk/high reward and rewards both class knowledge and player ability.
Yeah it’s more in line with Kyhlo now, the hammer still stronger, but at least not as much an’ i win’ button anymore. The most important thing is there is now more reactive play, more emphasis on actual fights rather than one shot kills.
Rom changing to ranger is interesting.
The damage has been buffed a bit, but mainly in clone bleeds rather than burst. Mind stab buff is decent but more for the radius making it viable to actually land and make part of the damage rotation. The real buff comes from thieves being a bit more vulnerable, can actually get burst off rather than spend 99% of the time trying to kite the evade spamming thief.
I think you underestimate the buff to scepter. It’s going to apply torment on AAs. The AAs will generate clones that will stack even more torment. Right now, I need to disengage if I get 5 stacks and one or two other conditions put on me. Can you imagine what your condi bar will look like post patch if that mesmer change goes through?
It’s not just the scepter buff, it’s this buff plus illusionary elasticity to staff, makes condi builds crazy strong, and not in a good way as it will all be about being passive and letting the clones do the work.
I recall a Sensotix condi build that was already decent 1v1 and didn’t use PU, with these changes will be extremely strong all round.
The condi changes are nuts, illusionary elasticity was enough of a buff, the sceptor change on top is just faceroll time.
The scary thing is PU wouldn’t be the biggest issue.The condi changes are so op you wouldn’t even need it, just passively shred anything with the constant torment/bleed stacks. Illusionary elasticity was enough of a buff to condi specs, adding the torment buff to sceptor on top is just nuts.

You can laugh now, but the fact is esports is taking off in China in a massive way. MLG bulding the first esports stadium and two Chinese teams in the DOTA2 final for $5 million. If they take GW2 seriously, they will dominate. Although tbh I highly doubt anet can put up the prize money to tempt them.
Have to say it’s a shame seeing development spent on this map. It should be left as is and dropped to hotjoin only. Development saved for stuff that really needs it, i.e. new maps or game modes.
I’m not sure why they couldn’t do both – have a TCG vs APEX, then have an all star where there is no more than 2 or 3 from one team.
FSP is 100% guaranteed 2nd place overall (or at least 2nd place prize value) even if they finish 3rd this week. So you have nothing to worry about on FSP, just put your feet up and relax, all the hard work was done in previous weeks.

This is a bizarre thing to say – reworks happen based on feedback when things aren’t working, which is exactly what this thread is about. It’s also an issue that has been for many months, so hardly a kneejerk request for balance. Not to mention that there is no reason for classes to ‘take their turn’ in balance, it’s not impossible to help make all classes viable in one form or another, or at least take simple steps to improve quality of life.
Well condi can certainly work against players who aren’t that good, for sure. You will find it is limited once you regularly run until players who are mechanically clued up and/or know how to team fight/rotate properly.
Glad someone else noticed. I’ve been complaining about this for a while. Easy fix would be to make retal return a % of damage taken, scaling with power. An easier fix would be to give BF the invul back tho.

Playing Guardian has also helped open my eyes a lot, so easy to reapply boons and to be covered in organised group. Also constant movement to stay out of wells/nullfields.
I think one thing missing here is spvp, imo it was absolutely a change made for spvp where blurred frenzy on a point was very powerful. Really needed something for wvw to balance it out, or division of skills. Although given the state of mesmer balance in spvp, could probably revert it without a problem.

People like OP are just ridiculous…. Can’t win 1v1 against build so AFK? Learn to team fight and rotate points, not everything is designed for you to play solo hero.
Yeah it does seem less popular without 8v8. Although I still think in terms of getting people to learn the mechanics, having it only 5v5 is best.
I do think best solution may be to only start games when there are 5 players on each side, like they used to do with old random arenas in GW1. Play Now would be priority for games ongoing which aren’t full, then new games.

yes it’s well known for a while that Thief vs Mesmers is very unbalanced – at least when we’re talking running meta builds and not cheese.
Yeah an MVP thing would be nice, encouraging people to play well. Sortable lsst for basic statistics, certainly an improvement over a flat score.
They tried solo pvp in GW1 with hero battles, didn’t seem too popular and ended up getting ditched. I can’t think of any mmos where there has been solo based pvp gamemode and it has been remotely sucessful. Better off just playing Hearthstone or something like that if you’re so allergic to teamplay.
Also if you want to pvp on your own in GW2, there is always WvW roaming.
Yeah in fairness although this has been the spvp top tier meta (although obviously portal always in there for either decoy or nullfield) for a while, nobody has really written a guide up about it.

Problem is the guys who designed it claimed testers were hugely happy with it, and since went on to design eotm (another pvp fail). So not much chance of it being scrapped, too much potential ego bruising at anet.
I highly doubt they would beat that overpowered team composition. Their main advantage is that 1v1 2v2 power, where they simply can’t lose. It’s so easy for them to play on 3 points then. Also… thieves are useless against them
Clearly you didn’t watch the tournament games.
They are very strong, but not if there’s more than 1 in a team as there’s very little damage coming back. Can still win against a team with 1, but would have to outrotate them / be very good with your burst. Just don’t get stuck trying to 1v1 a bunker guard on a point they already have, nothing easier on my guard than just tanking one person and many players with limited experience will try it.
Hopefully some balance changes + bug fixes after this final.
I think the point; to coin a phrase here in America is, “Just win, baby!”. It doesn’t matter what you run as long as you do that. Can’t criticize teams for bringing whatever they think is the best option to the team. If that’s two Hambows and getting a win out of it, then you picked right. If you want to criticize the build that ArenaNet provided, then do that. Don’t critique players for utilizing something that works. All’s fair in love and war.

People keep trying to blame ‘matchmaking system’, it’s low population which no system can magically fix. Ruining the game for others just drives the population even lower.

Which ofc is why I’m able to stay top 200 on the leaderboards playing almost exclusively PU.
In North America, which to be blunt anyone can see from streams doesn’t mean a lot.
Very boring to watch these bunker builds. Stream numbers less than half the first weekend.
