Sure a few of them were amusing, like the sylvan hounds in Celadon Forest. I do remember that one fondly (which is changed now).

Yeah, I even didn’t want to leave that form when I first did it. Now I think I’m not going to have that chance again.. Not to mention becoming a Snow Leopard, I loved it, but I have heard it’s not that way anymore..

Oh another thing, I agree that hearts need some improvement to be less boring (worse now being too simplistic) but please don’t make them like the quests in some of the MMOs out there. I loved it in GW2 due the fact they aren’t like a list of tasks that get pilling up which you have to complete, I liked it they are area specific and you can always come back to do them, no matter what level you are, instead simply vanishing as you level up.

Honestly I had been trying to grab a friend to the game for almost 1 year now, and now they finally decided to give it a try (they didn’t do before due slow connection that would take them a long time to download it). But now with these changes I’m afraid of their opinion and I would feel ashamed if they tell me the game is boring or annoying after all the praise and stuff I gave when telling about the game… The most of the bright sides of the game I told them a while back are now dumbed down and boring… :S

Oh and a little point to add: I’m also not against changes and such (I loved the new TP and what they did with minis), but I’m against the way they did these changes regarding NPE, it could have done way different than what it is now.

Yes, I also agree that message should be more clear. At times I get puzzled when seeing them as it’s hard to know what and why it was removed. Once I got one of those messages saying my message was removed due some conduct violation, but it wasn’t my message which was the issue, someone else’s was. Only after replying to that message someone from support told me that a whole thread got deleted due abuse but my message in there was fine. However it didn’t prevent me to get that initial “wth” when I first saw that notice.

Too bad Temporal Curtain isn’t going to have any changes, it was already stated it was intended but it still sux not being able to get swiftness. Like a few days ago, I got slowed down for a bit because I crossed the curtain with 1 sec of swiftness left and had to wait the cooldown until I could get more :S

That’s nice to hear the most of them got fixed. As I said I noted some improvement but I couldn’t realize which ones. Yes, the list should be updated then we can easily know what’s left and what was added.

Every time I completed something for my daily, the normal pop up fan fare, light show out my bum occurred, but there was no way for me to really see what all it was. Being a vet I knew, but a new player won’t. When I got my reward for the daily later, although once again I knew what it was, the new player might wonder what they did to get that and more importantly, are they going to get it again (possibly soon).

This is one of the main issue with this system in general: hiding things but at the same time making them available. This causes nothing more than confuse people even more. If the intention was make things simpler by preventing players to deal with things they weren’t taught about, this was is doing the complete opposite, it’s confusing players even more!

You mentioned dailies but it also applies to several other aspects: map completion skill points, vistas and points of interest), googles, asura gates, combos, trading post… to mention a few, not sure if there are more.

It’s more confused and frustrating to see something and get a “sorry, you can’t use it now” than having it always available there and let the player decide if they want to deal with it now or not. Don’t know what something is for? Let it be for now or seek help, either by asking or exploring the UI (hints or tooltips, descriptions, the Help panel again huh?). Making them visible or accessible but locked is away worse than not seeing them at all.

If you are not using the personality stuff in the game anymore, then please just remove it from character creation. It honestly has no meaning anymore and just saddens me to see it there.

Oh good point. This “little” thing like Dignity, Charisma and such was one of the things that made me like the game. “oh sweet, my char has a personality by them own”. Now it’s just silly to get dialogs giving that options and knowing they don’t mean anything anymore but giving a different response only.

The game now looks as if it caters to 6 year olds.

I could even say it summarizes how it feels about the most of the changes…

And is that a bad thing? I am not a fan of most of the changes myself, but at least I know I am still playing Guild Wars 2.

Well, if they want achieve that and for that the game needs to be dumbed down and look silly like some FB games out there, yes that’s bad.

You might be able to fix this bug by leveling a character to about level 10 or so. A friend was able to fix it by using a level 20 scroll on a new char.

No, this is not a fix, it’s a unneeded workaround. But yes, that’s a possibility (if you have a character slot to spare).

Cannot use diving goggles

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: shadow.6174

shadow.6174

Yes, it seems that googles are one of the account-wide unlocks (once you unlock with a char it becomes available to all others).

Not sure what exactly the level cutoff is since I didn’t check at lower levels, but that’s one workaround. Obviously this isn’t ideal for people who don’t have random lower level characters hanging around or any free slots. :/

Exactly that, a workaround. A stupid thing that shouldn’t be needed after all.

It’s like the patch relocked the goggles on all/some accounts and re-leveling up a new toon re-unlocks them all again – because as we know goggles are so confusing to new players or whatever /sarcasm

Yeah, sounds like that. They locked it for all accounts then they have to go through the new system in order to have it unlocked.. WTH, how stupid…

“ohh, that’s so hard to approach the item and hit F for Use, it takes away ma dear skills…” (sarcams mode off)

An Example: Edited…My Example has been removed and can now only be unlocked at Level 80 as it tended to confuse members of my test group

Lol, it describes what happen when you find a locked content that new players aren’t supposed to deal with yet in this new system. :P Like you reach a skill challenge or goggles and then “Sorry, you aren’t ready for this yet.” (that implicitly may mean “Sorry, we feel it’s too confusing for you to deal with it for now. Try again later.”).

Sorry, I didn’t word it properly. I just generalized some stuff. I didn’t mean that merchants and trading post are locked like skill points and traits are per example. But the way they are now new players are kind of prevented from using them at certain point. Taking away that NPCs from starter areas is like locking them for me. Of course they are still accessible at other areas and such (TP can still be accessed via menu), so why removing them from those places? Because the level of the area? Then yes, it sounds like it’s somewhat related to level gating, even though not explicitly related and totally locked out as other things. Taking as example that area near junkyard at Plains of Ashford. The dialogs of some of the remaining NPCs are non-sense now since there’s not TP and even that simple merchant there anymore.

Players don’t all need to be hand-held. Give them choices, instead of forcing them to play on the rails you’ve created.

I’d feel a lot happier if people stopped referring to level gating as if the game hadn’t launched with level gating…and no one said a word. Level gating wasn’t just introduced to the game with the NPC. It was in the game from day one.

The ability to switch weapons was gated at level 7…but it was still gated.
You got your 3 skill at level 20…but it was still gated.
You got your elite at level 30 (now it’s 31)…but it was still gated.

If it’s abysmal now, as some claim, why weren’t their complaints during the first two years of the game’s life about it. I’ll tell you why.

Because it’s not leveling gating people are objecting to, but the CHANGE in level gating.

By skipping the first 15 levels, people don’t really how fast most of that level gating goes by.

The issue isn’t having level gated things, at least I’m fully aware the game already had it (as the examples you gave), the issue is how they are being used. The way it was before was less painful and boring than now. Level gating things like utility and elite skills, switching weapons and such was fine, but level gating things like map completion, merchants, each one of your basic weapon skills, trading post and several other things is what is bad. Some of these stuff don’t have the necessity of being level gated. Again, the main complaint isn’t having level gating, but how they have been implemented.

A: “Can someone help me with a vista?”
B: “What’s vista?”
A: “It’s something required for map completion. Open your map and you will see the items you have to grab for it”
B: “Hmm, I don’t see anything about completion on my map… must be broken?”

Ah ok, I got it. And yes, I also dislike those.

Targeting Still Broken Please Fix It!

Yes I have noted the changes and some of them deserve some praise indeed, like targeting World Bosses and champs, it’s easier to select a World Boss now also it prioritizes champs and elites. However, when it comes which one of the same type it must to choose it still picks up the one far and not the one at your throat instead.

I haven’t tried Ulgoth after the changes to see if it stopped preferring environmental things like Centaur Racks instead mobs attacking me, but it was one of the changes if I’m not wrong.

The abysmal:

  • Timegating. That is the main reason I decided to even post this and if I were to post my initial thoughts on the subject it would be a cross between a series of beep censorship and your average Taz sloberfest tantrum. PLAYERS ARE NOT IDIOTS. STOP TREATING US AS IF WE ARE. Timegating serves no purpose other than to annoy veteran players, make things more disconnected for new players and confuse everyone caught in the middle.

Hehe, I “LOLed” at your “Taz sloberfest tantrum”. Anyhow, I couldn’t recall what are you talking about there. Which timegated things do you mean? And yeah, I feel the same that you put in uppercase there.

In fact, that’s the reason why I bought Guild Wars 2 in the first place. The Personal Story wasn’t perfect but I felt like I give a kitten about the things going on in Tyria. Otherwise, I’d just be mindlessly killing mobs all by my lonesome for a few months and move on to another MMO.

Yes, I felt the same way. Personal Story was one of the things that got me hooked in this game, more than dynamic events.

Oh another point I forgot to say… weapon skills unlocking. With the previous system it felt more rewarding and it felt like my char was really “learning” to wield and manipulate an weapon. The progress was smooth and gave some time to really “learn” each skill.

I had recently started a new char a few weeks before the path. I could unlock all my skill set in a matter of 5 mins, even before I’d reach my next level! It also helped me to lvl up with the experience gained from it. Every time a skill unlocked I would hover it and see what it’s meant to do, then I would go and use it on first mob I found and see how it worked. I was like “shinny, this skill seems cool.. what’s next..” and then went to unlock the next.

With the new system characters aren’t “learning” skills anymore, they are gaining the right to use them. What if I have already learned enough what #3 skill does? am I forced to stay bored with my actual skill set until I’m 3 levels higher? Taking it to a specific case: are mesmers forced to be denied from having an easy source of swiftness (Temporal Curtain) until they are lvl 7? Not fun for one of the slowest class in this game.

Same applies with stats and traits, before the progression was smother and it really felt your char was getting progressively stronger. Now they are given the right to become stronger. Before it was like your char was evolving and becoming stronger, now it feels like your char takes an injection of anabolic and get stronger all suddenly after a few levels.

All these “small” things takes away part of the immersion and makes it feel like a “follow the orders” game than a RPG, where you tell a story and feel like living a story. It stops being an immersive game and becomes a computer tutorial where you learn about hitting keys (Stanley? You there? :P).

Anyway, I tried to give my feedback with constructive reasons instead just complaining. I tend to use comparisons to make my point across, hehe, and I hope it worked.

Is it a tactical error? Did people, on the whole, like the personal story more? I don’t think so. Guild Wars 1 had very popular PvE but it was the same thing over and over.

Personally I would prefer Personal Story than doing the same events over and over and over. Personal Story is somewhat unique for each character, events are repetitive even though dynamic. Personal Story gives you a sense you are progressing on something, events are more like chores you do everyday, like gardening. They are fun, but it’s just more of the same after a while and almost equal to everyone. I wouldn’t say to take off events, but also I wouldn’t say they are what draws attention most. Events are good for group action and sociability, Personal Story is more for unique moments where you want solo (or with a friend only) or do things at your pace.

At a point I was being attacked by one just a few steps in front me, my camera was almost perpendicular to the ground. When I hit a skill, guess what happened? Yes, it selected one that was far from me and behind a rock >.< Using tab didn’t help, it cycled through the ones near that one behind a rock, also behind a rock. I had to tilt my cam down in order to get Tab to select it.

I just wanted to double check, the goggles not working for level 80 characters is a glitch right? Or is this content on its way out?

I believe it’s a glitch, like happened with me in the pic I posted before.

Oh and this is something I wanted to post here for some time now but I kept forgetting. I was going to use quote from others about it but I missed them. Anyhow the thing is, some people has suggested more use of hints and even having an area with info about things. Well there was a Hint panel that was working nicely, it gave useful hints about several game mechanics. But it seems since they were unable to fix the achievement related to it the solution was getting rid of it completely for good.

I would suggest having that panel back (not necessarily bringing the achievement back too) as it would be handful to have a quick access place where we could refresh our mind about some things.

Oh here is what I was going to quote:

  • Make use of hints. Sure, I didn’t use them when I started, but that’s because I like to dive in and play around with a game’s mechanics. When a player unlocks, for example, traits – have a nice useful hint appear explaining them in some detail. If they want to read it another time, point out the hints menu or something.
  • Maybe put a bit more useful information into the actual tutorial, instead of making everything before level 80 one huge tutorial. I’ve seen other games go in that direction and it’s just downhill from there (if you want an example, RuneScape).

Well, the most of my feedback I could be giving here already was mentioned by others, no much to add actually. However I wanted to make some points…

By chance did the one behind these changes think that new players couldn’t be that new for MMOs too? Did they think that this game’s meant to be played by low QI ppl? No offense intended but with some changes it sounds like they think the players are 5 years old who just must to follow what’s said. Was this new system meant for ppl with a brain of a potato? (No offense intended). C’mon, this game was already by far simpler than several MMOs out there.

What’s the difficult about dealing with bundles? It was what gave me immersion in the game, like “shinny, I can pick up stuff and use them”. What about being transformed in other creatures? One of the things that good me hooked in the game was becoming a sylvari hoard at my very first hearts. I didn’t even wanted that heart to finish… The tooltips in game was very enough to tell what to do with bundles.. did you pick up a bundle and your skills gone? No panic, hover your skills and learn what they do, you’ll find one saying “Drop bundle”. It’s hard? “Drop bundle”? Simple that?

As others have said, it’s not about fun anymore, it’s like a job: do what we say and you’ll get a reward. The fun and immersion in this game is about making choices and taking decisions, it’s been taken away from new players. Also, it’s not a leveling experience anymore, now it’s a huge boring tutorial. Why keep teaching ppl until they reach 80? I learned about WB when I was around lvl 20 (new system teaches about it at lvl 76)! At level 5 I already knew about map completion! (and this kept me in this game too, it was nice to know I could do hearts at a specific place instead spread around map and at anytime I wanted or any level (if I did it later) as they don’t vanish when I’m highter lvl).

Taking away features isn’t the proper way to teach things. To teach things one must show and tell about things. Do parents take away any furniture like chairs, drawers, etc from a baby’s room just bc the baby isn’t ready to use them? NO. Well, one could say “the baby isn’t supposed to use them anyhow” but the adults will. Also the baby’ll get used to that stuff and it’ll be already known to them when the proper moment arrives. What does this have to do? That’s how I feel about removing things from starter areas and low level players. How a new player’ll know what a renown heart’s meant for if they can’t even “feel” what world completion’s about?

Why removing merchants, TP and gather nodes from starter areas? Ohh it’s so difficult for a new player to approach a gather node and hit F? Ok, they couldn’t have the proper tools but then… hey, the game is telling me I need a tool equipped, where’s the logical place to find such items? Merchants! Then go to the nearest merchant and there it is. No tools with that merchant? Let’s seek another, like in RL, if you don’t find a thing at a place you seek at another.

I work with development of interactive computer courses and I’m aware what level new ppl could be, but hiding and locking stuff isn’t the proper way to teach. Hint! Tooltips! Instanced tutorials! Why denying things from a whole player base just to teach some newcomers? By using hints or an instanced tutorial one could have a plenty of tools to teach newcomers without taking away any fun from everyone else. The game had a Help panel before with useful hints, it’d help me a lot to refresh my mind about some mechanics. Why taking it away? Just because that bug with an achievement couldn’t be fixed? Remove the achievement instead.

The point is, give the player the right of choice! With the new changes the game’s deciding for us, either newcomers or veterans. What hooked me in this game was the ability of make choices in the PS mainly. But being forced to go through things that I could already know or was too obvious that I wouldn’t need a tutorial takes away the whole fun.

That’s it, with this system things are being forced on us. Let’s choice when to do PS or map completion. “oh but it’s higher level than your.” Well, let us take the risk, no challenge no risk. Talking about PS… wth was wrong with the previous sequence? Why messing up with the logic? No comments about that, others has already given my point. Leveling was easier between story steps, now it’s a boring task.

Ok, I wrote a lot. I may have repeated what others have said but that’s some of my thoughts about NPE. Therefore, I’d suggest to revert these changes and go back to planing table. The idea and intention behind it is great, but the system needs to be reworked from scratch, sadly enough. (I really hope there are changes coming and not mends instead…)

Changes to reward systems and wardrobes etc seem fine, though. (Haven’t tried the minis, saw someone said they only show up at home – what’s the point in that? I solo, I’m only ever in the home instance if a mission requires it…)

This was a bug that showed up with the patch, it has been fixed at this stage though (minis appears normally except if the map population is too high, then they are culled).

I really don’t see why the wish of a few people who could just wait a few levels should ruin the game for everyone else…
sniff

I couldn’t agree more…

It summarizes in some way what I feel about the changes too, not NPE only but overall. The bad changes regarding NPE has kind of overshadowed the nice things added in the latest patch…

(And btw- goggles are broken from the top down as well as from the bottom up. Low levels are nerfed from using them, and high levels are over-gated, and apparently not allowed to go back. Not sure where I should post that info, in case nobody’s figured it out yet…)

I HATE that people keep bringing up this Straw Poll! It’s ridiculous!!

You had 1500 people participate in this poll. Do you actually have any idea how many people that is? I’ll tell you. It’s less than 1% of 1% of the estimated number of purchasers/players of Guild Wars 2 worldwide.

This is a LUDICROUSLY SMALL amount of people that have participated in this poll. Not only that, but most likely the majority of the people that were conscripted into participating in this poll were already biased against it — I.E., the poll was only advertised in forums and threads where people were already complaining about the issues.

This poll is nothing but propaganda. It’s highly stilted in the favor of the people that designed the poll, with people only wanting it as “proof” over something they “already know” about the game.

Please stop using this as a discussion point. There is no merit to this poll, it doesn’t provide anything of value, as it’s highly circumstantial to begin with.

Nop, even though the “samples” from that poll, the amount of ppl who votes on them, are by far less than the actual number of players it still can be valid. Take per example elections (for president per example), do the polls they usually do at that season really take in account “all” the people involved? No, usually it’s just a “sample” that can reflect what the majority could think about.

I can’t tell about others but the ones I made wasn’t advertised on thread where there already had complaints and hate toward it. I put it on my signature so it would even appear on threads not related to this system. These polls may not be exact and precise, but it doesn’t mean they aren’t valid.

I’ll come up with some feedback later, still reading posts at this stage.

And thread got merged and a lot of posts became redundant lol. Good to hear it’s working again for you all. For me it was always working then it’s hard to think what it could have been.

That’s nice to hear devs answering and wanting more feedback (although I always knew they wanted it somehow). About feedbacks I had even made a poll to rate some aspects of the new system and maybe it could give some insight too. Not much votes in it so far but here they are:

Changes to Personal Story: http://strawpoll.me/2568479
Objective Compass/Content direction or whatever is it called: http://strawpoll.me/2569588

Yes, the story steps level has changed. There is some discussion going on this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Personal-Story-Gone-from-UI/4384811 (although the issue reported there is something else)

Mesmer Skill Bug

The way as skills are unlocked has changed now. Maybe you weren’t supposed to have that skill at this level yet. (Stupid changes btw)

Here is the progression and when certain skills are unlocked now: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Leveling_rewards

Edit: yes, based on that list the 3rd utility skill (hotkey 9) is unlocked at lvl 34.

*thinks aloud:* Oh boy, the locking is regressive too? Locking it back when you already had it unlocked just because level "doesn’t fit"? :/

Having a one time popup telling the player how to drop a bundle would have been a simple solution.

Yup, it’s better having things explaining how stuff works than taking them away by “supposing” they aren’t ready to know them yet. >.>

Yes, very annoying indeed. You click to stop it but it spins by itself seconds later.

Orr Personal Story Changes

Wait what? Removed? From what I heard they just rearranged it, removing parts is even worse. Also, entering it through an area and showing up at another breaks all the immersion and make it even more confused. I’m hating even more the changes every time I read about them… :S Sorry but it was a very dumb move. There wasn’t any problem with it then WTH mess with it?

Personal story path changed?

Yes, the changes to Personal Story messed up with a lot of things, there is some discussion going on about it in this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Personal-Story-Gone-from-UI/4384811

Hehe yes, 404 is the error code for “Page not found”, sorry if I wasn’t clear about it. And ok, since your screenshoot seemed to be the main page I just wanted to make sure if you tried the link I posted above.

Still weird, possibly that’s the issue. The link I posted is for the CSS used by the main page and for some reason it doesn’t get loaded for you. Hmm…

EDIT: Basic test: see if any of you are able to access https://guildwars2.staticwars.com/ , it should redirect you to the main page, same as https://www.guildwars2.com/en/. I wonder if that domain could be getting blocked for you guys somehow.

Hehe, that was the reason I posted the link here, because there was a current discussion about this on that thread, even though it wasn’t the original issue on that thread.
