I use the Windows Snipping tool when I need to get the tooltip on an item. Much easier than using paint.
Hehe I’m so used to old ways I keep forgetting that tool. That’s a good alternative too.
Were you in party together? If so, were you in the same instance of the same zone. Just because you’re on the same map, doesn’t mean you’ll both spawn to the same version of the map.
Yes, that’s the thing. It’s possible you both were on the same map but not "exactly" in the same "instance" or "copy" of that map. If you were in a party the server would prioritize to keep you both in the same copy, if not then it usually doesn’t happen.
Another way to know that is typing /ip in chat. It would return the IP of the server you are in plus the instance number. It would be in the format ##.##.##.##:* where * is a number of the instance (usually 0). If you were in a different instance this last number should be different.
Yes, I have already noted it long time ago. Actually I would know it as “tooltip” or something, hearing “popup” made me thought of something else. Anyway, a way to work around it is un focusing game (like by bringing taskbar to front and using PrintScreen to get the screenshot and pasting it on an app like Paint or other. When the game isn’t focused, hovering items still causes the tooltip/popup to show up. But I agree it’s annoying to have to resort to these workarounds.
This already has been reported but thanks to the “working” search I can’t find the threads now.
Oh I found one at least: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/BUG-False-skill-change-in-combat/
It sounds like the Wiki is only accounting for the current structure (where “Against the Corruption” is in Chapter 7) and doesn’t account for cases like yours, where you were on a step that got moved around.
Well, wiki is based on what players experience, see and find out about things. In this case they would never imagine there could be a case like that. While no one would go through it they wouldn’t know what happens in these cases, they don’t know what happens behind the scenes like you do. They wouldn’t know what happens to those who were in steps which got moved until someone goes through them.
Also, could someone please tell me wth were they changed? I still can’t get the reason for such useless and confused changes. And please, I hope the “fixes coming” won’t be merely “workarounds” and emendations for broken dialogs in an attempt to make them making some sense. My Personal Story is in a hold until something is defined.
because why would I sell an item on trading post for less than the vendor price? let alone the price it actually goes for on Trading post. My point is this is clearly a bug and I should be punished /sadface
Can I ask what’s the vendor value for that item? Because it’s not possible to sell items below vendor value+fees. If it happened then certainly is a bug too.
Edit: Nevermind, found it here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Draconic_Gauntlets that says the vendor value is 2 s 40 c btw, but yes, it seems it was sold for the minor value then.

The OP deserves a paycheck or something
Epic find, finally I understand my fps drop/lag issues of the last month and why they are now gone.
Agreed hehe.
Also, I would suggest you change the title to something that reflect what the bug actually is. “Fix it” doesn’t really help the devs or anyone else who may be experiencing this problem. Just an idea.
Good point. Having a “fix it” as title and only a vid doesn’t help to understand what do you mean. I also saw the vid and I couldn’t see what’s wrong there. Maybe changing the title as suggested plus adding some description or stuff about where you think the bug is or what’s wrong in it could help either devs and players to know more exactly what are you reporting here.

Oh, I have just found a thing although it’s more like cosmetician stuff or what not. I have noted that phantasms also wear the same backpiece as player does, but the backpiece on them isn’t translucent like the rest of the body making it looking a bit weird.
Also, (I believe this one already was reported) the clones doesn’t seem to be using off-hand weapons although their anim shows like they are holding something.
I also noted an inconsistent behavior, it couldn’t be an issue on PvE but I believe it can be annoying on PvP or WvW. When wearing town clothes (and I believe outfits too, although I can’t imagine why someone would use them in PvP :P) and using a skill from ranged weapons (staff per example) that spawns a clone, the clone stays using town clothes while the player leaves the transformation and goes back using normal armor. This causes the player to look differently from the clones.
Well, this was just a result of a boring moment where I was messing around with skills at a practice target, lol. I had never realized these details before.
So I meant the blue, green and yellow “traits”, the ones with a kind of spyglass that gives a description on how to obtain them (beside buying them at the trainer).
This morning I had a look and I’m quite sure one of them is given after taking a specific fort.
Ah ok, I got it now. And don’t worry, I’m not a native english speaker too, hehe.
@dennie: you has brought this one to first page but you forgot a bigger one hehe: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Inventory-Window-changing-size-alone
Unfortunately it won’t allow me to attach more than one screenshot.
In fact, you can. Attach one first and click Preview instead Reply. it will attach the pic but won’t post, but then the Select file button will be available again. Repeat it for each additional pic you want add. When you are done then you finally use Reply.
Hehe I know about URL rewriting, I have used it a few times. It can be used for several purposes: to mask a real URL into another (making it search friendly or just hiding parameters or parts of it for whatever reason); creating a “permalink” then it won’t break in case the real URL changes or whatever happens to it; or redirecting old or “fake” URLs to a different place and maybe more.
Also, I was just supposing what could it be since I don’t have any access to what really is happening behind the scenes. It’s just the only think I could think for it to bring a “Cannot find category named search” message.
Again, I didn’t mean the issue was URL rewriting itself, it helps a lot at times, but maybe some part of it was badly implemented or have some error that may be possibly breaking the searching feature.
P.S.: Ok, I just noted I was redundant when I used “SEO optimized” lol
If it is strange for an old player, imagine what a really new player will think of this ?
Good point…
I saw that to get some of the blue skills you have to do dungeons and WvW actions.
Really ? You really think that a new level 40 player (who has to finance equipment with the little money he gets) will be accepted in a dungeon group ?
(sip)
And do you really think he can make 2 steps in WvW ?
Sorry but, what do you mean with blue skills? Do you mean skill points and using it to get utility skills? What do you mean by having to do dungeons and WvW to get skills? What I know is you have to do some dungeons to get “traits” (not sure about that too). And if so, now you would need to go WvW to get traits, skills or whatever? If so then it’s even worse than what I heard so far…
@smiley: My bad, It was past 1am here when I wrote that post and some stuff I put weren’t clearly what I tried to say lol.
After I made that post I thought more about it and here is what I tried to say:
Currently the forum URLs were SEO optimized, it means the URLs were optimized to look more friendly to search engines and bookmarks (probably you know that). It uses a rewriting method as you described to achieve such thing.
Let me give an example to make it clear for those that don’t know it. Let’s take the URL for this thread as example: https:// forum-en.guildwars2.com /forum/support/forum/Search-feature-not-working/ (spaces inserted purposely to break link)
This is how we see the URL, but the real path could not be it. In fact, behind the scenes it could be something like https:// forum-en.guildwars2.com /forum?category=support&subcat=forum&thread=Search%20feature%20not%20working
This type of URL is unfriendly for search engines and they look scowling at it, then one of the reasons for the rewriting. No issues with it at all so far.
However, what happens is the search box has been like targeting an URL like https:// forum-en.guildwars2.com /forum/search/, and it’s possible that due some badly implemented optimization, error or whatever the rewriting thing seems to treat it like https:// forum-en.guildwars2.com /forum?category=search, causing then the “Cannot find category named search” error. In fact, this could be just part of the issue, there may be more involved.
Also, I didn’t mean that AJAX is a bad thing, I like it actually. Good sites also use them, like Gmail uses it since its beginning. What I meant is putting it aside for a while and then the issue could become clearer and apparent. AJAX method could mask things and make it hard to track down. Also a good point as you said, it also should work with javascript disabled. Lacking an alternative method for these cases also also isn’t a good implementation (people can have javascript disabled for countless reasons).
I hope I made my point clearer this time, hehe.
@Inculpatus: Not actually new here, I have been playing the game for around 1 year or so. But I admit I may not have read this thread completely or I missed some other thread where they said so. In fact, I started using forums months after I started playing. Also, yes it could be easy using Google, but Google can also bring junk, it can also bring irrelevant links and ad links. Wouldn’t it be better to have an internal search with no risk of irrelevant or not related links and without even needing to leave the current website? Then I said it still worth trying to have it. It’s like not bothering to fix a car by knowing you always can have a help of a winch truck :P
Oh thanks Charrbeque, I was going to ask if someone could point me exactly what post was it because I skimmed over that thread and I couldn’t see it (ironically I couldn’t even try to search for it :P)
I truly wish we could get a functional search engine!
It’s no secret that the forum software has some noticeable issues. We don’t have the ability to fix Search, just as we cannot address a few other things we’d like to tackle. I’m really sorry that it can be difficult to efficiently use the forum.
So yeah, someone finally admits they aren’t able to fix it. To start, there is a simply thing that could be done: stop using AJAX and make a simpler search engine. The way the search works now was done based on SEO optimizations and stuff but it’s clearly broken. The file to where the search points to returns an error and an empty JSON file. Why using a SEO friendly URL as form’s destination? Use a normal URL without these fancy SEO stuff, that’s breaking the thing. Make a simple form that sends data to a simple URL like forum-en.guildwars2.com/search?q=SearchTerm instead a complex SEO “optimized” one like forum-en.guildwars2.com/forum/search/SearchTerm. What’s happening is something like that. Turning off javascript and forcing a search by “normal” means (typing and hitting Enter) sends the data that to a page that returns like “Cannot find category named search”, what seems like a broken SEO “optimization”. Did I give some insight at least?

Wow, ok, so I just bought Guildwars2… (sip)
First of all, welcome to GW2. If you want to know more about this subject and other changes check this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Changes-Coming-to-the-NPE/. It’s a long one though but there some more things about this there.
I like some of the minis myself but I tend to agree. Although they are cute and nice when roaming around, they wouldn’t fit in battles and stuff and could be some immersion breaking indeed. Maybe it should be like player’s model, we have an option to degrade someone’s else model quality for whatever reason, maybe having an option to hide minis could be useful too.
Normally when you turn away from a npc the sound becomes softer/a bit more robotic and when you turn to them it turns into a clear proper voice.
Curiously I have noted something like that. When I’m facing the speaker NPCs their voice is clear and normal, but when I turn around their voice becomes robotic. From what I recall it wasn’t this way before but I noted it recently. None of my sound settings changed.
Yes, that’s thanks to the (dumb) changes for NPE (New Players Experience). It’s a long thread but you can find some discussion about this subject here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Changes-Coming-to-the-NPE/
Some more on this one https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Personal-Story-Gone-from-UI/
(edited by shadow.6174)
They just recently removed 35,000 accounts, I believe.
Just… wow.. but a good thing if those were being misused.
World is becoming potatoed… :/
I’m not sure the changes to DEs in the early areas of starting zones are ‘bugs’. Many may be intentional to fit the guidelines of the NPE.
Yes, I was even going to say that. I believe that some (like the one around junkyard at Plains of Ashford) were intentional, at least is how I saw it at first.
This is the second time I’ve had what I thought was an error and its just this new system.
Well, it clearly shows how "intuitive" and "instructional" the new system is. :P [sarcasm mode off]
Just a friendly thought but, can we slow down on LS & feature patches and get the core game stabilized.
Hehe, +1 to this. :P
I guess chat links only show the base item, and do not show any customizations, ever. Might be a good thing.
Some customized items do show upgrade and stuff through chat links, same with “transmuted” (now-known as “re-skinned”) items. However, I also have seen a few items fail to show their upgrade through chat links too. In fact, once one of them didn’t show any stats at all, only the name with a description and vendor value (it was a weapon if I recall it right). Anyhow, it’s an inconsistent behavior indeed.
also i find it funny that harpies area is lvl 14 + but there walk allot off lvl 10 NPC ??
dunno why they are so low most harpies kill them all
lol true, I also noted it some time ago.
It’s funny cus their whole new thing that anet is trying to push out is dynamic events. How can they do that if a large chunk of current events that are already in game either never start or bug in the middle.
Good point… :S A lot of dumb and unnecessary changes were made while things already in game are still broken for ages…
That’s because of the (unneeded) changes done for the New Players Experience system, that came with September Feature Pack. As stated above it won’t be available until a certain level.
Yes, there has been a long thread about this issue: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Inventory-Window-changing-size-alone/
Hi.
I don’t know if this is the right place to be, but I did my best. The overall map (and minimap) in my game does not show vistas or POIs och skill challenges or anything like that. Just WPs and hearts. And of course, scouts, merchants and such.
I’ve checked everything on the map options and I’ve looked through the game options numerous times, there’s nothing I can do to fix this. I really want this to work, I’d really appreciate some help. It didn’t look like this the last time I played, which was over a year ago on a different computer.
Thanks so much in advance.
I believe you already did it but it doesn’t hurt to ask: did you check that option in map, the one through the “eye” in the bottom left, right? Also, you say you haven’t been in game for a while, a lot of things has been changed lately and one of them was the NPE (New Players Experience) that locks out some of those items. What’s the level of the char you used when you noted the things “missing”?
Do you mean this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/anet-s-lack-of-transparency/ ?
oh yeah? Could you please point which one you mean? I have checked Dev Tracker and I didn’t see anything about search function there. Also, what is GD? I’m not a native english speaker then sorry for this question.
I really wonder how devs can find threads around here, I wonder if they have some separated internal search engine or if they really search for something? Maybe they also use workarounds like we would use? Well, c’mon, it’s hard to understand how it hasn’t been fixed for around 2 years now. Either no one cared or no one has been able to find a fix.
I had tried to do some tests and it seems the issue lies on server side. The search box tried to retrieve results from a json type file but all it gets is only a “[]” no matter what terms were being searched (here is one example: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/search/forum/26?q=search%20broken).
I think I know the reasoning behind the change, though it was done badly.
(sip)
The only way it could really work is to completely redo it, not just switch around the scenes. Change the references to things that didn’t happen. It’s probably a lot more work than it’s worth.
I still haven’t finished Personal Story, I’m at lvl 80 step but one or two parts before the Zaithan fight. But yes, based on what you said and what I have heard about what’s coming for me (either for how it was before and how it is now) I can see the reason for the changes yes.
However, yeah, just shuffling around story bits won’t fix that issue, it will make things more confused and non-sense. It’s like you said, if it was to be fixed it should be reworked instead just reordering it.
Dialogue relating to stuff that has been skipped should be thrown out.
And ToTFG should happen before the Cathedral of Silence and Source of Orr story.
NO, Personal Story order shouldn’t have been changed in first place. Don’t “fix” what wasn’t broken. It had some failures, I admit, but the current state made it even worse.
(edited by shadow.6174)
The thing is, it doesn’t matter if it’s on XP or whatever, web is equal for any OS. Anyway, it is easy to tell if it’s the correct site or not, just look at the URL. As Pat mentioned, https:// help.GUILDWARS2.COM / (highlight and spaces intentional) is the correct and real address. This is what matter. At times something can happen and the site can look different, or the page itself already looks different from others pages from the same company (like it’s the case here, forum pages look really different from support area page [different systems I believe]), but the URL never or hardly will change. If it ends with “.guildwars2.com/” you can be sure that’s correct.
Another thing. Having support ended for a product doesn’t mean it will stop working, it just won’t get any patches in case new threats or bugs are found, but it will always work as it has been working so far (as long it’s not affected by these newest bugs or threats). :P
(edited by shadow.6174)
It seems the patch re-locked all previous toons and re-leveling is required to re-unlock it.
It shouldn’t happen, but it seems that’s the current behavior.
Those Personality items were partially removed with April Feature Pack, at that time the Hero panel wasn’t showing them anymore but Character creation and dialogs around the world were still showing them.
It would be a nice feature to see NPCs interacting based on your character’s personality, but it seems they have given up the idea and are removing stuff progressively. The downside is how you said, the leftover of that system make things even more confusing and with the changes for NPE it’s getting worse.
Yes, that was one of (unneeded) changes introduced for the NPE.
Be careful with Invisible Bags on top, because of the TP bug with Invisible Bags.
Oh true, good reminder. Although it would be dangerous if you have equal items in both invisible and normal/special bags (btw, I have confirmed that bug, I’ll post about it in the proper thread [when I find it again lol]).
Any possible idea when this might be fixed? It is really annoying everywhere.
Fixed.
LOL
No, that’s a known issue introduced with the recent (dumb) changes for NPE. Although I think I heard it had been fixed, I can’t recall that though.
(edited by shadow.6174)
Do not force the rest of us who enjoy intermingling story and the mmorpg world to play like these impatient gamers.
Good point…
Before, both types could be pleased. The impatient ones could just hold and do something for leveling up (that’s not hard as there was a lot of stuff out there to help with it) and then play the story in chunks if they wish; those who liked playing it in bits and not worrying about having to stop it due level could simply also go to do something else and enjoy some exploring.
Now, both types are forced to wait and forced to level up through the way “they” want us to do, as result the last type get annoyed and upset. In fact, they are now forcing us more to play as they think we should.
(edited by shadow.6174)
Sounds like a bug to me. If you have special bags (like one you said that’s intended to be filled with exotics first) the items which fits on them will always go to them, no matter what order they are. I have 1 inv bag at top and 1 equipment bag on bottom (3rd slot), and all gears and stuff always go to the equipment bag.
well if this is the new tutorial(levels 1-80 are for tutorial), they need to rework it, it lasts too long (until 80) and it feels more like impediment than instruction.
That’s just what I had just said above.. if the whole leveling is a tutorial (and now with NPE it really feels like one) then it wasn’t well designed, it’s too long for a tutorial and becomes easily boring.
Are you suggesting the tutorial experience go slowly?
No, I’m just saying that the whole tutorial experience doesn’t need to be extended until level 80, aka whole leveling process. Per example, some of the things they are “teaching” around lvl 40 I had already learned it when I was below lvl 10.
Also, just a thing: the first impression or experience is the lasting impression. It doesn’t matter if the whole content left at later moments is excellent, if the very first mins of playing experience isn’t good or fun, the whole gaming experience can be ruined.
The bottom line is the leveling speed is greatly increased. ANYONE who hits events as they go are going to level faster though…even new players. That’s how you level in an hour.
The thing is: What’s the point about fast leveling? What’s the big deal? Aren’t games about having fun? Leveling should be a consequence of having fun in it and not a chore that should be done as fast as one can instead. In my early days in GW2 I didn’t care much about leveling fast, instead I tried to have fun while working up my way toward high levels and enjoying each experience (real experience, no game XP :P) I got and new things I learned during that process.
if a new player (to gw2) is experienced in MMO’s then this so called ‘new player experience’ isn’t even needed. Anyone experienced in MMO’s will have a basic knowledge of most of the working systems with a few exceptions (like dodging). By that point, it turns into a tired, extended tutorial in explaining things that should’ve taken about an hour in an optional tutorial instance, like most other games.
And for players new to GW2 but not new to MMOs this NPE is even insulting, it treats the players like a 5 years child as if they wouldn’t even know how to read or seek for helping, that’s too much hand-holding. Also, a decent tutorial or helping system for newcomers should be something reasonably short and optional, not a forced process that takes the whole length of leveling process instead.
