Now posting your MMR when you post, that would be maybe more indicative?

I find Ele’s are definitely a challenge, but with a maurauder engi rifle power (and touch of condi) build, I can do decently in 1v1 with them. Perhaps though my level of play is not high enough to see the ele’s which are played by true pro’s.

If they get the jump on me I’m absolutely toast. I basically need to hit all my dodge rolls, jump shot reposition, Acid bomb leaps etc to take one down, but I do have the power and damage to do it if I land everything well. Like most things for the engi, no errors allowed period.

Some of my most enjoyable battles have been with Eles recently.

I have also decimated quite a number, but that’s likely because its the flavour of the week and lots of new folks flocking to it, and you can clearly tell when that’s what you’ve beaten.

oh +1 still with 205 blooms and wondering if I just dump it all on unidentified dye. I worry that if I don’t make the choice soon they’ll pull the vendor on us.

So short term question… wil vendor stay until a decision is made?
Second Short Term…. are they currently “decding” on an answer?
Long Term… wll there ever be an opportunity to get more blooms and buy the current offerings with them?

So can we fix bombs now?

shion.2084

I’ve been looking at the new traits, and trying to figure out if taking the elite spec has a way to make a rifle, bomb, EG, and X kit useful again.

I was sort of hoping this would fix the problem with bombs being nerfed by virtue of grenade existence.

I was sort of hoping it could give me the ability to use bombs on point to do good AOE, provide some area control fields and live for some time. My thinking was that if scrapper allowed you to melee, it would then be useful for the bomb kit.

Any build suggestions, or is there still nothing there to resurect the usefulness of bombs as a main damage go to kit?

Gating hammer behind clearly defensive traitline while it have awesome offensive capabilites is incredibly bad decision.

why you would ever think it wouldn’t be locked behind the specialisation is beyond me. all the other specialisations are required to use their weapon, why would engineer be an exception?

Well they could argue because we hav eso few weapon choices? Not that I think this will happen but that would be a justification.

Ok so to be fair… mortar isn’t horrible, I actually run it now. It has good point covering applications and if you are condi based can be a good lead in. Also in a group melee you can drop it on the mass and really cause havoc. The tool belt skill can have good blast finisher use too, and be a way to control an area, or place over a downed opponent, etc.

I actually very much enjoy mortar… would like it more if it was 28% stronger or whatever, but still it is a nicely thought out kit (especially since I dislike nades).

I’m really hoping they will give us something specific we can provide like banners for a warrior or spotter group crit enhancment for a ranger, that can’t be duplicated by other classes. It would be nice to not have to “explain” why the jack of all trades shoulod be in someones group. Conversations could be a lot shorter by us saying … cause we have group area enhancement XXX.

No indication of this though? I hope they didn’t miss this lack in the engineer portfolio. Please Anet… not just boons everyone else can provide to a group, I mean yay speed, not like a guardian or mes can’t provide that to a group.

If I had to guess I’d say the drones will be an effect you kick off with some kind of limited duration. The effect then continues on its own granting some sort of a buff, or reflect, or whatever as appropriate for the drone.

In operation this would be similar to the revenants hammers which spin till a meter runs out and whack people you come close to.

I would imagine that you can then use the tooltip to instantly terminate the effect causing some sort of special last blast as they detonate or whatever, probably again based on the type of drone you have. Essentially like the mesmer shatter, but not a choice as to which effect the dying drone does.

There is literally no reason atm to run a dps character except on thief or mesmer. Rangers and warriors are not legit options on higher tier play teams and the rest is sustain with minimal damage from condi. thats the game at the moment.

I think Engi can run marauders if they’re playing a range game. Or at least I get by in mid level play.

It could be that they have no interest in their minions, but their minions are just a by-product of their nature and existence. Actually I’ve turned my PvP experience into ele hunting, I keep my own personal scoreboard of each one I manage to 1v1. Sort of entertaining, they’re my preferred targets now. Has the ancillary benefit of improving your skills against the class specifically, though I do note that there’s a good number of players now who must have picked up the class because of it’s balance (lack there of) and are fairly new. I’m actively doing the world of Tyria a favour by discouraging them. After downing one I helpfully inform them that clearly Engi’s are OP and they should join the ADD side. I mean how could that backfire?

I find bombs are hampered by the fact that we can’t really stay in close range combat anymore. It was my favourite kit before patch and now I find it has very edge applications for me. It use to be my main go too.

I get more use out of flamethrower now because of it’s blind (while stunned, so I can escape), its knockback (so I can escape), the ball-o-fire thing I can’t aim well for its blast finish, and a really long fire field I can do both ball o fire and mortar in.

I find this trait very poor. The 10s cooldown makes it useless, and it’s impossible to count on are strategically use except for the very first roll in a combat. Whats worse is that the kitten thing is more likely to put you into combat mode when you want to be running by things at non-combat speeds,k then it is to be useful to you in combat. Its actually a detriment.

First of all, I didn’t mind that if you are going to do advertising for HOT you do it in this way by actually providing teaser content display. Very well thought up and I hope it allows you to get people interested in fighting these baddies in HOT.

Next… Maybe communicate to people and let them know if these blooms should be stored up if they didn’t get enough to buy what they wanted.

Improvement: The events seemed to be not about completing the events but running from map spot to map spot and tagging each one. I felt I was gaming the system more than immersed in the event.

Suggestion: It’s also frustrating to show up at one that’s just finished, maybe in map view an indication of how dead the boss a that spot is would be nice?

why do they let engis stack so much

in Engineer

Posted by: shion.2084

shion.2084

Yes I suppose you have a choice to make a build that has stability. But my answer still stands, the reason they give the other boons is because to build for swiftness you’d have to base your entire build around it like you mention. I don’t consider that a viable top tier PvP option. I assume the complaint is with regards to killing engis and not envy in a PVE scenario.

How to engineer

in Engineer

Posted by: shion.2084

shion.2084

I would approach the new to engi experience initially by trying to make your opponents come to you. Don’t worry about capping points at first, simply pester them and make them come to you. They basically re-create Zeno’s paradox .

Play with keeping distance and being annoying. Use CC on warriors like shotgun to the face, shoot them a bit, when the run up again use the net, shoot them a bit while walking backwards slowly, when the run up again, have a nice chill field waiting for them from mortar, then when they get closer use acid bomb to leap away, then when they get close a gain, use jump shot to land behind them. (by now a good blunderbus and they should be dead).

Practice these distance keeping skills and have a squishy build that instantly communicates to you when you got too kitteny. In time you’ll find warriors some of your more enjoyable victims. But first step is to practice distance control.

Whats the new dungeon meta?

I’ve found that I don’t need to be quite meta to be very effective in dungeons, especially these days. It sort of all seems a cake walk compared to pre patch.

I will guarantee that meta likely involves alchemy though I run firearms and explosives with it and a power build. I debate between marksman and pinpoint dist (because with a high precision the pinpoint is enough to give even my power build good supporting condi damage). And in duneons I think there’s a case for the increase effectiveness when close skill compared to armour exploit trait…. though I debate. I run EG, BK, rifle and might potion (fury is nice). Can stack 23 might or so on group before engagemnets, can remove condi’s, things basically melt like swiss cheese.

ESL Go4 Cup 44 Rule Update (READ)

in PvP

Posted by: shion.2084

shion.2084

As a note, we’re aware of the odd interaction between elementalist downstate and Vampirism runes and are tracking a fix for an upcoming build.

What about the Overpowered interaction of stack 4 eles?

I believe 4 class stacking is against ESL rules. As for the elementalist itself, we’re looking into it.

If it is against rules, then how will you be made aware of unbalanced classes? One might argue that seeing 4 on a team made the imbalance undeniably evident. Simply implementing a rule to hide the presence of an unbalanced system will cause is like putting a blindfold on.

Or do you plan on having blatantly imbalanced classes and there will only be 2 of the first tear class, then 2 of the second and 1 of the third? I suppose that’s a valid choice, but not in keeping with the philosphy that all classes should be able to provide something equally vital and effective to a party.

The rule is basically compensating for your balance inadequacies, kind of sloppy design and a poor bandaid fix.

Please address this concern.

Hoping Forge gets unique party buff trait

I’m hoping we get something that cements our usefulness for a particular need in the party meta. Rangers have spotter, warriors have phalanx, hoping forge gets some group buff trait that’s unique to them so folks will say, yeah an engi is nice cause it has this and only it can provide it.

Maybe a prolong boon aura?

Tired of having to “explain” the value of an engineer to a party whom all say but X does that better.

I also have always disliked gernades, currently use flame thrower, Elixir and might potion while having rifle as my main weapon and mortar as my elite. I run firearms, explosives, and alchemy. I use marauder and either runes of strenght or sometimes I play with pack / eagle. With might up my conditions are actually reasonably effective (pinpoint dist helps). I die very very quickly when caught unawares. This build is extremely squishy, though actually has a lot of condition removing options so its more pure damage I fear.

I seldom stomp, usually just acid bomb downed opponents, drop the line of fire thing on them and then shoot. If an enemy comes by to res them, I let them stand in the fields I’ve made by mortar, then I use rifle and overcharged shot the downed player.

Another tip is when on point and having downed someone on point, use overcharged shot to knock them out of the circle. Then stand on point and just shoot with AA, or some mortar fun. It increases your cap speed.

That was identical to my old build (skill wise) pre HOT changes. Now I run this build but with flame thrower kit.

I will give it a shot, I guess you loose firearms (but you’d die to quick without the inventions line). You took the trait to increase rifle rate over say the fury skill? I suppose if your up close switching to blunderbus and jumpshot more often makes up for the fury is what your thinking.

Agree with mr Wahoo. I used to use bombs offensively and initiate close range encounters, now we just don’t have the chops for that sort of work. Bombs are relegated to the Oh crap situation or when really noone is paying attention to you in a big mele (and you’ll still probably die from incidental conditions). Also explosives is just too balanced on the thought of 3 gernades being thrown to be very effective on singular bombs. I just can’t see this being an effective kit anymore and I’m very sad about it. They’ve essentially taken my favourite play style of the engineer from me.

Could use some tips

in Engineer

shion.2084

A tip I would have is that in the new meta it seems there are a good many who can down you in a second if they get the jump on you. Generally they need to be close to do this. We are now more squishy than we ever were with the effectiveness of condis and the new burst meta. Running into mele range for any prolonged period of time usualy means death to someone new, and these days even to the hardened sorts. Even the quickest dash to drop the heavy hitting close range rifle skills or acid bomb can leave you with half your health.

I would advise trying to resist the temptation to leap right into the fray on point. and to try to accelerate wins too quickly by closing to use your big hitter like blunderbus and the jump shot to early in the fight.

We can be effective holding medium to long range can be and forcing your opponent to come to you. Even an auto attack from rifle can be surprisingly effective if traited right.

You can be prepared when they do try to close range with things like acid bomb (to reopen it), knockback to escape entangle (but have a stun break to get right back up), or set your mortar tool belt skill off above yourself, or a flamethrower fire line in front and step on either side of it when they attack.

Also when someone is trying to close range you can lead them with mortar fields. Then use net or overcharged shot to stick them in it.

Don’t underestimae the power of slow, your bouncing green ball from the elixir gun can really turn the tide in allowing you to keep the range you like.

I run a marauder build so even my weaker attacks mount up over time and with runes of strength my condis go from about 280 (with just the precision delivery trait) to 800 or so (while being a full power build). this makes my condis something that can’t be ignored, in fact its quite amusing to run away while drinking potions and watch the guy chasing you fall over dead when your condis start ticking for more.

Hopefully a little helpful.

Above all an engi needs to be always moving and not stick in any one place (with my build). So pick your fights and keep moving.
