An easier build for PVE roaming is an HGH rifle. Put that on and you’ll have a lot more health and condi removals to play with. I don’t personally like ’nades, I take bombs any day But personal choice on that one, most run nades I think.

  • The combat system itself. Can dodge, can move while casting, fast paced!

Agree on all counts but this one, the dodge system just is not done well , almost immediately after launch ‘you can dodge’ became ‘there is no point to investing in any defense or utility except dodge’, completely ruining build and play diversity.

Meanwhile more and more games adopt some kind of active dodge system. Neverwinter and wildstar have the exact same system as GW2 (except without the ability to move while casting in the case of neverwinter), while DCUO has an improved system where blocking and dodging can be pierced by certain skills, all while allowing movement (even climbing, flying, and using super speed) during casting, and it came out a year before GW2.

I always thought block worked out pretty well… just saying.

My favorite so far is The Blazing Light

I always really liked that one too because of how hard it is to earn. I have no idea how many times I did that last boss fight just to earn that title. I honestly cheered IRL.

Me too, I litterally shouted in triumph when I finally did it after all those tries. I’d never done anything but PVE before that, prior to that couldn’t see any point in food. Hell at the time I had a warrior in mostly soldiers with the ascalon monk runes. I actually bought 3 whole pieces of zerker gear just to beat her. Made me play my warrior far differently than I’d ever considered before and litterally took me 100s of tries. In retrospect i had about the most ludicriously bad build possible. I recall knowing the various possible sequences those bloody orbs would pop up in, and cursing every time lag hosed me when I bent down to pick up a ball to throw at her.

In celebration of my victory I gave away my pricey food (like 12 whole silver) to someone who was watching me try, healing me up, and cheering me on again. Was smiley the rest of the night. Each morning prior to that I’d be aware the event was going down in a few more days and promise myself that today was the day Lliadri would pay for mopping the floor with my face. And how lag wouldn’t save her this time!

The least used weapons.

EG is always slotted on my engi. It offers condi removal, cripple, poison and acid bomb for huge damage to an area that you are simultaneously escaping from. It’s toolbelt skill is a stun break. I just love the thing. So flexible. IN sPvP if you’re squishy like me and want to kill off a downed character, you run over, drop acid bomb, and it sorta takes care of itself from there. Oh A.B. is also a blast finisher to fire into your healing turret for area heal. In PVE group play it’s saved the “stack” many times with it’s condi removal on the entire group and blast finishing of water fields/ might stacking.

how do i deal with warriors T-T

in Engineer

shion.2084

OK so I actually run zerk rifle and have found it a good training exercise. In general I don’t find warriors to be my biggest problem, in fact I find I do sorta well against them. (stupid pew pew rangers can really hose me if I don’t spot their snipe location) and my build’s weakness is lack of a block.

Some tips, you’ll find a surprising number of warriors aren’t running stability. In this case the CC your rifle offers is great fun. You do far more damage at range so make use of this while they run up. When they do finally make it to you a big ol bomb is always a nice present and you have 2 good moves to increase range again the #5 on rifle and your elixir gun acid bomb. Added bonus is acid bomb does terrific damage so match it up with say a glue bomb first.

When stuck in melee I rely on bombs and running circles. I switch to rifle and net / overcharged/ and blunderbuss when available. When available I’ll cripple with EG bouncy ball. and make my various blasts hit my fire field or water fields as necessary.

She now likes Engi more than her alturistic guard, and she’s somewhat useful at helping to stack might and provide boons with thrown potions. It’s a good in the middle build for people like her.

I am definitely not playing the most optimal build, but I have the most fun with bombs, EG, and might potion, with 6/6/0/0/2 for all formats. I do find even without bombs my rifle can do quite a bit of damage and the CC is great for PvP

Just remember, the most important aspect of Taunts in other games is how they put the tank on TOP OF THE THREAT LIST. We have ZERO information what GW2 Taunt will do to Threat generation.

It’s been described as a reverse fear, so the enemy will attack you for 1-3 seconds (probably) and then go back to old threat model.

Being reverse fear does that mean instead of being unable to use any skills but interrupt, you can use all skills at once against the taunter…. Awesome!

However they were their before I ran off and did some world bosses. I really can’t figure this vanishing unusable food thing out but it totally wasted one of my crafting boosts. Feeling punished for buying character slots

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: shion.2084

shion.2084

As Pifil mentioned, some things are once per account/day rather than character/day purely because it would stop people from creating extra characters solely to farm these rewards and have unfair advantage over someone who wants to focus on one.

But when it comes to the ascended materials i think it is due to Anet wanting ascended to feel more like a personal long term goal like legendary rather than just another gear tier that is required for the harder parts of the game.

And as said before they are all account bound, so outfitting all your characters in the same stuff is redundant. I also have to clarify, all other gear tiers give a +25% increase over their previous tier, ascended on the other hand only gives a 5% increase over exotic. That shows that it is more of a bragging right rather than a necessity. So if you really don’t want to take the time to get it then don’t bother with it because nobody is forcing you and the actual benefit is marginal.

I thought the same way regarding ascended… but as it turns out my swapping ranger and engi don’t quite use the same superior runes… just saying.

Why Assassins's?

in Engineer

Posted by: shion.2084

shion.2084

So basically the Assassin meta relies on the fact that you are using nades? I run bomb/EG/random as I disilike nades. So would it then be suboptimal for me? I do take traits that proc off crits, like burning…. My thought had always been this is an only if you run gernades thing…

I didn’t do the math for a non nade build and never saw trust worthy number for non nades build. After all ppl that take time to that kind of stuff try to do it for optimal setup. So I can’t tell you if you are better with assassins or zerker for your build.

My instinct tell me that Zerker will be better for you (I could be wrong on that), but keep in mind that whatever setup or profession you are using the difference between Assassins and Zerker is ALWAYS pretty small. You can either go zerker gear or assassins gear and still do pretty decent.

Cool, it’s not like I’m cutting edge anyway but yeah I’d always sort of suspected the Assassins is better thing would somewhat depend on what kind of engi you were using, espescially if the reason given was based on crit chance when that could be made up for with other utility skills

Why Assassins's?

shion.2084

Because the PvE meta is build around procing as much as possible with your nades. There is two main things that you get from procing with the pve meta build.

1) Vulnerability : The engineer is the best at stacking that. Against regular mobs that’s not a big deal, but bosses with unshakabel decease vulnerability duration by half, which mean that most group won’t be able to cap it at 25 stacks. Two way around that, either an organized group or a engineer that can keep between 10-20 stack by himself depending on his build and if he’s good or not with his rotation. That’s a huge boost of dmg for him and for the whole team.
2) Bleeding. That’s sound weird, why bother about bleeding on a power build? That make no sense at all. But still, 20-25% of your dmg will come from condition (mostly bleeding).

Keep in mind that the difference between both is not that high. In zerker you will hit harder, but give less vulnerability, so in the end you will do a bit less dps. But the difference in dps is not a big deal, you will mostly notice the difference in the number of stack of vulnerability that you can keep up against a boss.

So basically the Assassin meta relies on the fact that you are using nades? I run bomb/EG/random as I disilike nades. So would it then be suboptimal for me? I do take traits that proc off crits, like burning…. My thought had always been this is an only if you run gernades thing…

I just opened 13985 bags

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

shion.2084

When you can farm this many bags it’s no wonder the actual loot will be nerfed to hell.

Don’t blame Anet, blame the farmers for forcing ANet to nerf drop rates in order to preserve the economy. It’s a shame that rampant farmers so badly affect the more casual players, maybe they should look at ways to nerf drops just for the farmers or put a hard cap on the number of bags you can get per hour/day.

You know, they could deal with farming simply by counting how many bags you open in a day and then nerfing the odds after you pass thresholds. Thus the first couple, that most people who don’t farm will get, have decent chances. For all you know thi sis the case. I wonder if the poster kept track of what he got from the first 100 openings vs. the second one hundread etc.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: shion.2084

shion.2084

At very least the game should still show damage splashes on opponents which have been struck.

(this, of course would not apply to projectiles or ranged attacks)

I agree here. It makes no sense that stealth is more than simple invisibility. If I strike an invisible opponent with a melee weapon then I should know that I hit them, instantly.

My L2P advise: equip a superior sigil of fire.
Edit: And there are in fact 17562481756234 indicators of where a thief is: best indicator is that thief is a melee class. So where can the thief be?

can you explain exactly how having a sigil of fire equipped is beneficial?

ok so the indicator is this???… assume that the thief is in melee range and hope that your melee weapon is equipped so you can spam #1 and pray to hit said invisible player?

Sigil of fire triggers a fireblast when you hit the opponent (with a critical hit).
Any yeah, fighting melee classes with melee weapons is a good choice – you can always go ranged but that won’t do much good against thieves.

ok so you hit the thief while they were visible and your sigil proc but they reapply stealth, now what?

ok having a ranged weapon is useless so you are sol if you don’t have a melee weapon. gotcha. playing ranged is an insta loss scenario.

stand there swinging a melee weapon around is the best anti-stealth method. so “swing and pray” is your l2p advice. seems to be a great and well thought out combat mechanic…

You can also spam aoe you will hit the thief 100%.
Edit: And they have no blocks or anything.

can you tell me all the spammable aoes per profession and build?

also, you didn’t answer my question.

I actually find it sort of fun as an engineer to play the thief guessing game… but I play with explosions and increased radius. When they vanish and I guess they’re coming for me, I give it a few seconds, turn a random quarter turn, do my 5 on rifle, and proceed to drop bombs. When I’m meleing them and they go stealth, I switch to bombs and run about hitting 5 (glue) then burning then usual. But this is abnormal for most classes and only is slightly viable for engi.

Plus I’m not very good at PVP yet so maybe when people are better I’ll just get creamed.

They also have an annoying return to start mechanic that can get them away from me, while leaving me immobilized and my AOE centered on me useless. That’s sorta annoying…

I always carry E-gun…. but I PVE and fractal. Take one of the more vexxing bosses, Mai Tran.

If your fighting say Mai Tran, who does a tonne of damage via condtions, you can stand second row and do fumigate (while causing poison). You can crippler her with #2 while speeding all your allies (keeping her crippled helps quite a bit). You can acid bomb leap escape when she comes to you (does terrific damage). You can also from second row remove a condtion and give regen to a fairly large area. I also pair with bombs and the Might/Fury/Stability elixir in my build. I think the weakness hit from option 1 doesn’t work on her… but I may be incorrect.

The other nice thing about the weapon is that many of its effects are pretty useful regardless of what you trait. The acid bomb is decent damage regardless, and a great blast finisher with a water field. The cripple and speed are useful to me, the poison, adds to my power builds traited +2% per condi on an opponent, weakness is great fun (especially on ice fractal when the guy yells out your weakness makes me skick… and for meta humour I immediately pelt him with weaknesss… hehehehe). Finally condi removal, who cares how you traited, it;s condi removal and a bit of regen. Finally the toolbelt is a stun break. I run 6/6/0/0/2 typically. Assassin and zerk mostly.
