Yes every scrapper has a function gyro, that hovers over your opponent and can perform a finisher. It can be done once every 30 seconds by selecting the enemy and hitting a key. It can also help revive an ally.

Anything that punishes people purely for successfully landing a hit should be removed.

Things like Ranger GS’s counter-attack are fine, and things like this should exist. However, things like Rune of the Nightmare should not. Mesmer’s Mirror of Anguish, while relatively unused now, should not exist. Revenant’s Eye for an Eye should not exist. Engineer’s Self-Regulating Defenses, while important thanks to Engi’s low condi removal and overall power creep in the game, should not exist.

It is actually idiotic that they do.

First of all I would like a better trait than the stupid drink elixr S of loos my cap and not manage the final take down hit-ness. But its not in the same category as explicitly punishing the attacker for a successful hit. In fact in some cases it can be quite useful to the attacker. Just an aside. I’ve decapped engis cause of this, and as I play a condi engi, watched them die because of it.

To get a theif I use AOE. But my build is a condi build with FT and mortar. So essentially if they hop around in my wall O fire or get sprayed by my EG poison or flame thrower auto, or when I click the tool belt for FT and land a hit, or jump in my poison field, or get hit by my thunderclap… they tend to go down. The hammer whirl gets them if they’re near me (front or back) and I try to manage their position for the block. In all things I do my firearms trait and sigils land bleeds and poisions (sigil earth, and doom).

I actually don’t generally find theives problematic, but my toughness is quite high as well (rabid).

However given your history your probably a way better player and maybe theives wait out your blocks, whirl o deaths, and thunderclaps some how?

I think for best results you’d have a limit of 2 per team, and if solo queueing it would only give you one class that had 2, the other players would be of differeing classes from each other.

To be more fair, when people queue, you should let them check a box that says, only allow 2 of a class per team. In blade and soul you can check a only one of my class when pugging. You may wait a bit longer, but its up to you to choose.

So if I was a theif I could check a box that said, pls only one of me on a team. I would also have a check box that said, and no more than 2 of any given class on my team. That level of granularity would be greatly appreciated.

Condi Warriors

How do you expect a melee centric class to kite a warrior when they regenerate health at insane rates and your only source of damage is to get infront of the warrior, whom will spam burns.

Yeah I guess warrior isn’t broken if you’re ranged.

I’ve 1v1’d condi wars as both thief and rev. Only one I don’t know is engi? Can any scrappers speak up?

But if that is one hard counter, hardly makes it OP. Most classes hard counter at least one build. I would think scrapper could 1v1 a bow build, but maybe not the full melee wars.

I’ve foudn 1v1 a warrior an even match up on scrapper once I adjusted. I can half kill one by reflecting fire bolts, I can stand there while they vent rage with my block. then you run away for a while, casting the thunder clap field behind you, CC a bit and kite lots. Essentially I run a rabid build with high condi damage and so I let the condis do their thing.

IF you screw up and they stun / get you they can litterally take off like 70% of your health in an instant…. its pretty brutal. You must be exactly on your game.

Best players end up at legendary, were they will lose and win like you in sapphire, or higher if you get a bit better. So get over your selves, you loose and win in PvP!
What about me: Started at Sapphire, in 3-4 hours I’m at 18 played games, 18 win strike, Ruby, +9 pips. I will not stop until legendary, were I will loose and win like you do now! Why can’t you advance like me?!; it’s not fair?! Well.., learn to play!

in general for a group fight target the warrior first I find… they tend to be squishiest and do truly ridiculous damage if ignored. The only exception is if I can actually figure out which of those annoying copies is the real mesmer…. then he goes down first.

I sort of enjoy when they’re on the ground dead after a min 1 v 1 and they decide to tell me about how bad a player I am. It baffls me that this is what they would be thinking after losing a fight. sometimes I type “sorry I don’t speak dead”

Turrets never really worked at decent levels of competition but they were moderately effective and very easy to use and so quite prevalent.

However none of this works when the way you calculate MMR is based on a teams performance and not the individuals contribution to that team.

The fallacy in logic is that if a player contributes very well to their team their MMR would consequently go up. It is entirely possible that it won’t because there are two many other players which represent variables.

Well in this season they try to make sure that the five better folks are rated just above you, instead of it being two completely randomly selected teams of similar MMR which coulld result in a team with say a MMR ranging around 10 vs a team ranging around 1000.

Now if MMR actually meant anything this would mean that the underdogs iin our new 500 vs 550 match up, had a better chance of actually winning (say maybe a 30% chance).

A very good point. Profession matters. If your a highly mobile +1 profession you’ll probably see scores like mine. Personally I’m an engi. My current build is an all rounder which I find best for solo q. I haven’t been sold on the gyro meta, so I run a rabid with hammer.

So question for you all… if you were to try to evaluate someones play based on collected stats alone, which ones would you pay most attention to?

Observation 1:
I’ve noticed a tendancy. In matches where our team wins considerably, my score is typically one of the lower ones. I matches where we loose quite horribly, mine is one of the higher ones. I thought it a rather amusing observation. To bad it doesn’t work that if I simply work at getting a bad score it results in our team winning So the relationship is somewhate inversely proportional.

Observation 2:
I was looking at the combat stats where you can calculate out damage taken vs. damage received and healing accomplished. These stats seem to have a much better correlation to how my team does in an actual match. There are few games in which my damage output tripples damage taken in which our team lost. Which I suppose makes sense.

I’m 50/50 out of 7 I think with 1 extra win than loss. Well at least its better than S2 where I either couldn’t loose or couldn’t win.

Incidentally we still won… I trucked along, immediately aborted to far and wasted enough time for the three (who finished the cap completely … all together uncontested) to mosey their way to middle. But the question remains… what is the mmr given to new players?

My condi scrapper with Rabid and undead is doing just fine against warriors… will have to wait till the chaff gets weeded out though and I can be sure I’m playing moderately good players. Actually initial tests show my build has been pretty effective at most things while not having quite the escapes and ability to contend point against multiple opponents that the older metas did. I am not sold on this gyro thing.

Dev’s I get your new algorithm will use some mechanism to both group mmr’s of a similar number together and ensure that competition involves playing against another group with a not too dissimilar MMR but either entirely higher or lower than your groups… understood.

BUT how did you address what the MMR of a new player is? please god tell me you don’t have them being ranked average and nuking the MMR of actually average ranked folks? noone wants to be caught in the downwards spiral that the new player trap could cause in season 2.

So you learned from your mistakes and rank them low when they first start right?

if you can condi a warrior on a condi build then CC him, block and kite you can have decent 1v1 against them. ON my build if they land onehit I’m toast though. It has to be played perfect.

Everyone’s on about blast gyro, but for me half the time the darn thing just sits there, doesn’t chase anyone and evenutally goes away. What is it that’s happening?

Also as far as the final salvo, does it trigger no matter how the gyro dies (whether you self destruct it or someone blows it up, or it does its finisher in the case of function gyro?)

I find static discharge and flamethrower ball o splodey fire very hard to use and aim. In something as fast based as guildwars, having to alter my whole mouse perspective seeems unfair when competing against other skills that can be setup mechanically much quicker. You try aimin gup a ramp and hitting someone running away with the FT ball O fire. fricken impossible.

With so few elixers, is the Alchemy trait absolutely necessary? I guess it only combines with EG 5 and EG toolbar skill. oh maybe acid bomb too. How do you get might in this build?

Didn’t show your traits. aren’t leaching and / or blood bugged right now? I don’t find blast reliable cause half the time it just sits beside me after I’ve tagged target and doesn’t do anything.

What’s wrong with Mercenary? Sometimes I try it for fun on my engi, but it’s by no means OP’d. Problem is no precision so you have to take intelligence if you want that. Paired it with rune of the berzerker, but you end up to glassy in the end.

I doubt issues are with the amulet so much as potential uber synergy with specific classes. What is the actual complaint? Your giving solutions not problem definitions.

Try this build… it’s been doing sort of all right against bunker eles due to two sources of poison, slightly higher than average damage and CC. Not much vitality but oodles of toughness. Make sure you might up to get you to 3k power.

I am currently using this build. Its a bit suseptible to condis but quite a surprise against power builds. It packs enough damage that I seem to be alright taking out some of the bunker eles (hard to tell their ultimate skill level but some quasi decent ones)

If you can decap you don’t necessarily need to kill. That’s been my only answer against a good ele player. perhaps try a FT EG and blast gyro build. I wouldn’t suggest rifle

I’ve also fought for minutes straight as a scrapper against ele. I can actually decap them sometimes if I hit my CC’s right and win the point chunk by chunk. Not efficeint but utlimately satisfying

There is a version of ele that focuses on CC that I don’t quite understand how it works, and thus can be really annoying. I typically see that one hosing me in a team fight. I note that the CC one tends to also switch between lighting mode a lot.

Incidentally what is best to do to someone who’s assumed the tornado mode? Condi like my poison gas from EG? drop flame wall?aoe mortar?

What is the tip off that they’ve used invuln?

I did try using the toughness 1200, power/prec 900. amulet. You can combine it with the hammer stat that converts tough to power. It makes you a bit suseptible to condis, but really surprises the people whom rely on direct damage. Sort of amusing. You still have decent power to hurt folks with. To mitigate vitality a bit I try it with tools for its healing, and holenbrack runes.

I actually don’t mind necro’s. I use mortar and pepper them up front. If they show up mid fight I drop my wall of fire from Ft and kite them through it. I use my spin hammer. I use the thunderclap, and I use my FT air push. I use the hammer leap which gives lots of evade. These various things help me manage masses of minions quite effectively.

I’m not a huge fan of the trait that makes you drink an S at 25% health… find it’s hard to account for and kitten inconvenient when I’m just about to put the finishing hit on someone 1v1.

I’m running flame thrower, EG and elix B at the moment. Its hard to tell how decent it is given I’m in unranked right now, but it shows promise.

I would love to be able to use bombs viably again. Was really hoping for that this balance patch.

As an Engi what should I be taking, currently running mecha legs and heolbrak. I find it does seem to help my survivability. I even think it might be part of the meta… are you sure about the things you say?

Ah perhaps you meant No warrior is taking Heolbrak ? As opposed to noone takes it and that the problem with warriors. Which would have implied as written that the problem with warriors is that noone (including other classes) takes Heolbrak?

Wait don’t you have reduction in durations which are sort of like resistances in a way? Take Holenbrack runes or mecha legs or whatevs.

Just stop there., not every has 3 or 6 or 9 dodges. If you dodge a skill it should not land, it’s that simple. Unless Anet wants to give everyone 8 or 6 dodges as well or crazy mobility.

You don’t need 3+ dodges, rofl. You can either save both dodges for the attack or dodge once and use a defensive cooldown.

Hell, many classes right now are so tanky that they take almost no damage when they partial dodge a burst skill.

Honestly, many classes don’t even need to blow a dodge against these attacks with all the defensive cooldowns they have (looking at you, Scrappers).

I believe if a scrapper sees rapid fire incoming and quickly hits his whirly reflect…. he pretty much eats hits anyway due to the cast time on the whirly reflect. Oh and often that first hit is the one that puts the nasty vuln stack on you if I recall.

I’m about to as well. I’ve been stuck in the same kittening tier in the Emerald Division for 4 weeks now because if my MMR raises even slightly by one win, I get steamrolled in the next match. This isn’t fun, and quite honestly, I’m about to say kitten it for this game mode altogether. I only wanted the wings, is that too much to ask for?

I don’t think what your saying is the case. If you had a higher MMR you’d be paired on your team with better players.

Your opponents ARE NOT matched to your MMR, only your teammates.

Your opponents might have vastly higher or lower or similar MMRs. the way they are chosen is by matching their MMRs to each other and by them being in your tier of ranked. So what your saying can’t be true. It shoul dbe helpful to you to have a higher MMR. You might find the implications of this… disconcerting , but I’m fairly sure I’ve understood how things are matched.

Run my build. Be average! Mercenary rune, Holenbrak, intelligence, doom. Flame thrower, EG, Slick and mortar. Alchemy, scrapper, tools.

The majority of your damage will come from your power, but a very reasonable amount comes from the condi. I’m actually really enjoying.

I find mortar the most versatile of the elites and run with it. Plus I run mercenary runes so can make a little use of the condi it applies.

If there’s a guardian sitting on his trap you can use the AOE to move them out of it, or simply soften them.
When you need to get out of the action in a team fight, but would still like to contribute you swap to it, drop the heal at your feet while dropping some chill and poison on the opponents en mass. It really shines when you have three enemies running about in a smallish area.

I drop orbital strike then put down the firewall and get three blast finishes when compbined with napalm and Acid bomb.

The orbital strike has an intimidation facctor which lets you position people for your other attacks.

In any case, I rather like it.

I don’t think there is anything passive about the scrapper. Not by a long shot. It is a very active playstyle. I am constantly jumping around, using the tool belt skills, and using the utilities. I really don’t understand the OP’s point here.

Lack of comboing skills. With rifle you had a complex and variable way to cc chain an enemy, now you just 5+3. And this applied to everything else

Well I run flamethrower instead of bulwark and I have fun CC / damage chains. I can do things like slickshoes, to wall O fire, to lightning field (while they still standing in wall O fire), to napalm to hammer 3, to wind pushy fire thing, to spin to win, to acid bomb leap
