Why not Rally your server to the need?
Why should the rest of us suffer because your server can’t field a number of your choosing?
I would like to see higher number limits with better optimization.
Why should the majority suffer because a few servers are fortunate enough to be stacked?
I would like to see skilled play in WvW with victories based around it, not by how many WvW players you have stacked in a few servers.
Because their engine isn’t made for this. I won’t explain the details because that’s already been said over 9000 times.
Also because StarCraft doesn’t calculate boons, armor, buffs, might, vulnerability, weapon damage, crit chance, crit damage, traits and distance from the center of AoEs.
And it’s not the 80 people being on the map, it’s the 80 people FIGHTING on the map.
It’s pretty much impossible to get that amount of people/AI fighting at the same time on 1 map in a MOBA.
Please don’t compare shooter calculations to RPG calculations. Shooters like CoD and Battlefield(as far as I know) don’t have armor, crit chance, crit damage, boons, power scaling and probably other things that I can’t remember right now. At the same time GW2 has projectile calculations like a shooter.
BTW aren’t shooters always limited to 64 players or even lower numbers? I remember interviews discussing 64 players in Battlefield 4 being a big thing.I think I’d have caused you an aneurysm if I used a more abstract analogy.
Your defense of Anet’s ineptitude is noble, but misguided. This is a partially defective product/consumer service (if we count online-based games as the latter). There’s no excuse for it one year after it has been released.
Ok, here’s the excuse:
No other MMO has done 300+ man battles without lag.
DAOC lagged
WAR lagged
Planetside lagged
Planetside II lagged
EVE lagged (now they force the lag with time dilation)so why are we expecting Arenanet to solve a problem no one else has really solved yet?
There are some pretty simple solutions to the problem. To give the most basic, once the map cap drops to around 60, skill lag ceases to be a problem most of the time. And although this seems unreasonable to some due to queue time, it seems as though its almost something that Anet is leaning towards doing, but not right now. Why? Because they are looking at releasing more maps in the future and will have more places to spread their server population.
The other alternative might be, as they have hinted, is map redesign in some way along with releasing of new maps. And I think this is what they are looking at.
The fact is the servers cannot handle the load they are running. But they released them that way either knowing or not having stress tested them thoroughly, so one way or another the ones is on them. We are one year in and as far as I can tell, the solution they are looking at, new maps, is a long way away yet.
Its not about RvR. There are plenty of games out there without the lag that is in WvW.
I don’t really care about massive zerg skill lag, but recently I’ve had my heal skills go off and renewed focus not renew my virtues in like 5v5 fights. Wee.
I think something is wrong with the game since the last patch. I made another thread about it here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Unresponsiveness
Most WvW players have given up complaining and realized Anet is going to do nothing about it. I’ll speak with action. Any future game that Anet or related companies release, I will not be buying it. That’s how I operate. If I have a bad experience with a gaming company, I don’t invest money in them. Plain and Simple.
I don’t want to encourage people quitting or boycotting, but I can understand this mentality. Being completely unable to participate in zerg vs. zerg fights is terrible.
Id rather not be involved in zerg vs zerg fights at all. But sometimes your forced to. Like in T1 its common place on reset to end up with at least one 2v1 inside a garrison with the full map there. If your defending, there is no option to avoid. You have to be there or your letting your server down. I have actually got a very different setup that for these fights that I respec for that involves alot of regen because it still seems to work when healing and other skills do not.
Also the mentality. I don’t know why people don’t act this way when it comes to video games. I see so many times players getting upset with a developer and then when the developer releases a new game they are back in and buying the game. “IRL” people seem to have more common sense. If they are dissatisfied with a service or product, they don’t keep going back for more.
There are spies, sabateurs and trolls on most servers I’ve been on. I recall on JQ a while back we had what was definitely a spy who was siege capping the map with well placed siege leaving nothing but golems. It took over a month but they were either banned or stopped doing it. Right now we have a similar player on BG. He has been reported by hundreds of players, yet he is still getting around without being even temporarily banned. It’s likely he is running an alt account (its an upleveled character) and he is using tactics that show he has a reasonable understanding of the game. Hes either a spy or just a very sick person. I think the problem is Anet does not care about the reporting system. I mean, if a guy can get reported by hundreds of people and including manual reports with screenshots and not be banned, there is a clear problem with the system.
I have a hard time believing most of these players who are doing this consistently day in and day out are anything but spies. In all honesty, Im not a huge fan of humanity and I’m a little sadistic. But I could never invisage myself doing anything like this. I spend alot of my IRL time in game, but if I found myself doing something unproductive like this I’d consider leaving the game. I may not like humanity, but I do like myself and don’t want to waste my short time on this earth with negativity.
EB is worse because its 120 players per server in EB. Its only 80 in the borderlands so less stress on the servers. But a 3 way 240 man garrison fight is guaranteed skill lag lockup. The servers start to get out of their depth once you get around 150-180 players in a map. And it seems as though they are attempting to test some changes from time to time. The only way they will fix this is to reduce the cap or get better servers as the current ones cannot handle it.

I thought some of the earlier ones were more underwhelming. I feel like Id rather be called an assualter, raider or soldier rather than a squire. Yet squire is higher than these. The same with footman.
Agreed Ascii. Now that they have profit in WvW with WXP boosters maybe they will fix it. Only kidding, it will never get fixed ^^
The free one is 15 minutes. The purchased version is 1 hour, just like all the rest. This is a way of getting people who are logging in during the free trial to check out WvW.
That’s fair enough.
Are the payed versions supposed to be soulbound rather than account bound? The other boosters are account bound. I purchased 15 WXP boosters as soon as they were available. My intention was for it to help me level my guild class (Hammer warrior). But they were immediately soulbound to my thief who I happened to be logged on to at the time.
Op made me laugh with his " invite spam".All he needs to do is get out of thet player’s target and he won’t be able to invite.Looks to me like a personal choice to stay near the dead bodies for a long time. / dance / laugh on dead bodies much? nice behaviour
Spy on worlds ? Seriously?
We should have more invite options in this game not less.We should also be able to see the enemies name perfectly.A lot of “funny things” would be instantly solved that way too and good/ bad players could be recognized for what they really are.
Once you get out of range, they already have your name and can continue spamming invites. How do I know? I mained a thief for a real long time and I still get hate mail.
Stop trolling and you won’t get hate mail ,simple as that.I never got an invite other than someone wanting to duel or mutual congratz. Also no,you only get your name shown if you log off during an invite or you accept party. It is impossible to get it otherwise. Also you can block a person last time i checked.
I try to avoid fights. I tend to aim for objectives. I only fight when I get chased. If people leave me alone I leave them alone. Let me know where I am going wrong here, because I personally found your claim that I am trolling to be offensive.
The PvE events are worth a ridiculous amount of coin right now. Ive got some guildies who have had some decent drops from them as well (precursor). If I wasn’t a hardcore dedicated WvW players, I would not have touched WvW this week.

I purchased 15 not knowing they would be immediately soulbound when you receive them. I would be fine with them being soulbound, but there is no warning saying if you purchase it whilst on this character it becomes immediately soulbound to it. I presumed they would be account bound like other boosters.
its just a free giveaway 15 minute booster to try and entice more people to WvW and lure WvW players into buying the 1 hour ones from gem shop.. And any semi serious WvW players actually still playing this game will buy and use them probably using RM bought Gems as they are potless in game currency. You would not need that big a tinfoil hat to say that the boosters are a form of pay to win.
The ones you buy are soulbound as well, unlike other boosters. There is no warning that when you buy them they will become immediately soulbound.
(edited by sostronk.8167)
I purchased 15 straight up. To my loss as I purchased it with a character I don’t use regularly in WvW right now. With the amount of years it would take to level all characters with all unlocks this is really bad for me They should be account bound at least when you buy them. There was no warning saying it would be immediately soulbound to the character your on when you buy them…
Another obvious oversight from Anet. Wait, players have more than one character?
two 25man raids in last couple of days. Over 10 ranks each. 0 liquid. Not even funny.
Levels are like candy now anyways. A couple towers and a keep and supply camps and you’ve gotten 4 levels already.
Leveling is stupid easy now.
The issue is, prior to previous specs included, you need 1150 ranks to unlock all the stats per character. Presuming they have full unlocks eventually and perhaps add more as they go, I’d estimate that a player like me who has 8 classes is going to need in excess of 100,000 ranks.
Also, a keep is 800WXP. 2 towers are 800WXP. And every camp on the map equates to 1200WXP. That’s a total of 2800WXP, which is a lot less than a single level, let alone 4.
You are nos supposed to level all of your characters to 1150. It is a long term goal.
1150 is just the beginning of a much larger “end goal”. By the looks of it, the long term goal will be maybe 10,000 per character, maybe more. At the current rate, most won’t be getting more than about 1 level per hour. This means from my projections Ill need to play around 100,000 hours, or 24 hours straight for 4166 days. Quite the long term goal.
the difference between – say – a vial of 2500 that has a 10% drop rate and a vial of 250 with a 100% drop rate is meaningless with the # of levels we’re earning

why would you expect to unlock everything on every character
A number of reason. At the top would probably be that I enjoy playing balanced PvP.
T1 – Warrior, Guardian, Ele
T2 – Necromancer, Mesmer
T3 – Thief, Ranger, Engineer
It’s an EB thing. I make a habit to never play EB by choice.

Thanks. Yeah they seem extremely rare. 20 levels in 2 days. 0 dropped.
I find it hard to believe that someone on the 4th most populated WvW server in NA is losing money.
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/21263
The cost of being a commander far exceeds the cost of the badge, and if you are a helpful/zealous WvW player yours will be close to that cost.
If you are brainlessly running around in zergs, then sure, I would find that hard to believe – but that clearly isn’t the case with the OP and most of the people on this thread.
Regular flame rams are built with Flame Ram Blueprints, which can be bought from a Siege Master for either 6s or 6 badges.
If you’re a good commander you should have plenty of one of them and not have to buy them for 16s on the TP.
If your a good commander, your not using regular flame rams.
People are overlooking something here
Like I said, we had the numbers to defend, but we could not get them on the map because of the queue. I would have been fine with the guild not being in there and we would not have lost the keep. I wouldn’t be mad with them doing something outside of WvW because it does not effect the queue. Also, the guild in question, Ive rarely seen any of them in WvW and when it is its usually just one random solo player not doing much. Despite being a hardcore WvW player myself, I play with a PvX guild and I am completely fine with players doing PvE. I can live with players doing PvE when they are needed in WvW for numbers. But I do not like when we cannot get numbers because a guild thinks its fine to queue a map when skritt is hitting the fan. In Tier 1 numbers are rarely a big issue, even in Oceanic timezones, because there is organization and management of numbers in real time. These PvE events hurt all servers, sometimes one more than another, but GvGers needs to be considerate.
So a BG guild did a GvG in BGBL correct and that lost you a Garrisson? Well the question is why would they do it in their home BL in the first place. Common sense always dictates that the guilds do it in the neutral 3rd server for many conveniences such as the ability to respawn and run back without delaying much time.
Since most of the PPT enthusiasts (I should know, I was one of them for ages) get pretty concerned/upset with waypointed keeps being lost in their homeBL just encourage your gvg guilds to do gvgs not on the homebl. Problem solved. If other maps have queues then thats your responsibility AS A SERVER to accommodate them or stop Q.Qing about losing T3 keeps.
Its one reason I personally don’t like reading people saying “its Anets fault, not ours”. OFC a GvG format would be great. I’d most likely get involved myself. But I feel as though players who have remarked in here and some actions I have seen in game are aimed to grief other WvW players under the pretense that “its Anets fault so deal with it or come on the forums and QQ getting a separate format”. Its a courtesy issue. I don’t go down and interrupt GvGs. Players organizing GvGs should use an unrelated BL that isn’t the most active at the time. We can all get along if people show some respect.
Is that really such a horrible thing?
Yes. Also, sPvP is designed to be completely independent of PvE and WvW. WvW is dependent on PvE. PvE is dependent on nothing.
AFAIK, T1 maps being constantly being queued is incorrect. BG generally only has 4 map queue on reset and its only a short wait to get in. After a few hours the queues start to be removed. It comes back during NA prime on Sunday. Monday-Friday at most I see one map queued during my primetime. Usually none.
Blackgate lost a T3 garrison mid week a couple of weeks back because we only had around 30 to defend against an 80 man assault. We had the numbers to defend, but we couldn’t get them onto the map because of the GvG (guild and spectators). Yeah it obviously effects WvW. Takes a long time to recover from a garrison reset. With organization and being considerate though, these things should not happen. There are plenty of times where GvG won’t effect WvW.
Ok, so you lost an upgraded keep because a bunch of players were off doing something else instead of defending it. What if, instead of GvG, those guilds had been doing a guild mission during that time instead? Or running fractals? Or playing sPvP? Or doing Living Story content? Would you still be mad at them for not defending the keep?
WvW runs 24 hours a day and it’s not reasonable to expect players to devote 100% of their playtime toward maximizing PPT when the game offers so many other things to do. GvG happens to be player-created content rather than officially sanctioned by Arenanet, but it’s still a potential vector of play that many people enjoy.

I think this is becoming more of an issue now because these constant events are giving players 10g + per hour. Ive TP flipped in the past to keep my coin up but its hard to do this right now because its a buyers market and with the extreme level of farming that is going on with these events its hard to get a guage on where Anet are going and where the market is going. They have claimed in the past they don’t want farming going on, or something to this effect, and now they are bringing out all this content which is basically one big farming session.

According to the patch notes:
“•Liquid World Experience is now available as a drop in WvW rank-up chests. When consumed, characters receive a set amount of WXP.”
I’ve levelled up ~10 times today/tonight. Haven’t received one. Are these with every level or am I going to be needing as much luck as I would for a precursor? Or has it been rolled back?
I would still like to see WXP boosters like the XP boosters.
Check the black lion trading company.
I suspect this will drive the prices on siege up. Ive already spent over 30k badges on siege. Now I won’t be spending any badges on siege because I want WXP.
TIL Tarkus and Magikarps are intimidated by a small PvX guild that half the members of are running MF builds.
Nope, the last thing I think is “oh kitten its OCX”, more “get ready for thier CC, as they are going to run”, I think NYS/SONG are the only SEA guilds that deserve respect for what they do on field (very good comp, don’t yolo it and also will fight with even numbers and don’t run to their ACs and call in a few more guilds like OCX or HIRE). Regardless, trying to win an argument on the official forums is pretty much kitten ing into the wind, so I’ll knock it off and do something more productive at work lol.
SONG is fast becoming the best guild I have ever fought against tbh (from my experience).
I mean, Liadri is obviously better than me so why not get a better hero to deal with it ^^
GW2, bringing MMO farming to PvP since 2012. Swing that sword Colin, swing it good.
Also (rich) warriors are getting around with -98% condition duration. But it still hurts sometimes.
lol no. The -98% total only applies to chill/cripple/immobile, which don’t do any damage anyways. Not only that – Warriors are not the only class who can achieve that.
I’m aware. We also have access to multiple methods of independent condition stripping and group strips. Add all this up and I basically have no problem with condition damage. With Dolyak signet regenerating around 450 health per second I can usually ignore the few conditions I get. If I get too many stacks I just strip them.
It doesn’t feel like a year for me. Feel like around 10 months. Probably because I didn’t start playing at launch lol. Happy Bday to those that started at launch. Don’t forget to send me presents in two months time :p
Depending on how your server is doing, you can level as quickly or more so in wvw than in the Crown Pavilion
Explain to me how you can get a level 1 character to level 80 in WvW in under 20 hours please.
CON: Teleport hackers would be making a lot of coin.
Pro Tip Regarding the combo fields listed above the field that takes effect from the finishers is the FIRST ONE DROPPED when they’re stacked on each other. That is if an ele drops a water field and a mesmer drops an etherial field on top of it the water field will get all the blast finishes. This field cannot be overridden. It must end before a new field on the pile can take effect.
I do not believe this to be correct. I frequently see static fields dropped first, followed by symbols of swiftness on top and getting area retal from it. There has to be a prioritisation order outside of time. If you believe I am incorrect, feel free to test it for yourself, but unless there is something seriously laggy/buggy going on, the light field takes priority over a static field regardless of whether it was dropped first or second.
Conditions suffer from a huge WvW problem… there is A LOT of condition removal. There used to be some conditions like Confusion which were scary good pre-nerf but not much left. Condition damage buffs also don’t scale as well as power buffs.
There is one condition that is devastating and it is the one that somehow does 1100-ish per tick, stacks, stays on while downed and doesn’t show up in the combat log (surprise surprise). I don’t see it often but by the time I realize what is on me I am dead. Still trying to figure out what it is.
I sometimes have problems with removing burning, as in its the only condition I have and I pop Shadow Refuge (I run shadows embrace) and 7 seconds later its still burning me, Id suspect that first. Second would be torment, because Anet.
Overall I think power is better. Particularly at guild level, there is too much organized condition removal. Also (rich) warriors are getting around with -98% condition duration. But it still hurts sometimes.
I don’t think it’s too easy to take. I do think numbers play way too big a part because of the massive skill lag you get in SM fights. These fights in T1 are rarely about skilled play, but about who gets the better end of the straw in a fight were your skills rarely work. IMO remove SM altogether or replace them terrible servers. SM was too easy to take before they reduced the PPT it equated to.
Running a sub level 80 in WvW is highly frowned upon by anyone who takes the game seriously. I personally frown upon anyone who isn’t 80 and isn’t fully exotic/ascended gear and geared CORRECTLY. Why? One person being a rallybot can lose a large fight that would have otherwise been a walkover.
Crown Pavillion is a great choice. I levelled a new Norn Guardian last week because I was Asuran and felt I was not being targeted enough. I started levelling on Friday night and Sunday morning I was level 80 with full clerics exotics and ascended jewels. You also pick up those Skill Point scrolls that allow you to unlock most of your abilities by time your 80.
It can be a bit funky. Ive had keep capture credit when I am and have been on the opposite side of the map the entire time, like in situations where I am specifically hitting something else to pull them away right before a keep rush. Dealing damage to the door or NPC’s and being in the ring usually makes sure of credit for me though.
Do the Sonics not play in Seattle anymore? Haven’t followed the NBA since Michael Jordan retired.
People from T1-T4 will have differing views about WxP levels as compared to people from T5-T8 simply because zerging makes levels easier to obtain.
This. Exactly.Right.
Look on my server RoF, we fight against Gandara and underworld. The minute we move from our keep we are steamroled my other server just because they have double numbers. So it is very difficult to earn some Wxp.
Try NA, if you can. I actually moved to a low tier server a while back to farm WXP among other things. If your running a team comp build just respect to havoc. The amount of WXP you get from sentrys/yaks/camps is less than a keep or a zerg fight, but if you are doing it right its more consistent and adds up to more WXP. Throw in the outnumbered buff and your well on your way to farming it. Ive since moved back to NA T1 and I get less WXP running with a guild, float team or full map zerg… all of which I do in an average day. If what I think is being said about “liquid WXP” then I’m pretty keen for this because I can farm WXP on a havoc build character and use the WXP on my guild build/team comp classes without having to respec.
We will not be changing WvW ranks or WxP to be account bound. However, we are going to be implementing a host of changes that should make this seem less like some sort of punishment(a categorization I disagree with entirely) and more of a character progression system. The first step is the liquid WXP that is being added to the rank up chests which is account-bound. We are planning additional systems as well. Hopefully, as we continue to announce some of those changes, you will be happier with the system.
Im confused. I have to be reading this wrong. It says “We will not be changing WvW ranks or WxP to be account bound”, and then says “The first step is the liquid WXP that is being added to the rank up chests which is account-bound”. I read the first to say they are not going to be making WXP account bound, then the second contradicting it and saying they are making it account bound.
Great week for WvW. Its so tight right now. I know it’s early, but I can’t recall feeling like all 3 servers are so close before.
I would argue that applied fortitude does give a large advantage. As soon as I finished upgrading it on my thief, it felt like I was easily winning fights that I previously lost. I didn’t feel such a big boost when I got the guard leeching, but it definitely made a difference, I mean I certainly won’t argue with perma 3 stacks of might. I think Applied fortitude was a massive boost because Im running a 10.6k health pool on a glass cannon thief with 80% crit chance and high uptime on fury whilst in combat. The difference between 10.6k and 13.1k is essentially insurance for me that I am not going to get one combo killed. Before I couldn’t make a mistake and miss that key on my keyboard or get caught out with a drink in one hand, I can recoup from any initial unexpected attack and still turn around and win it. That said, I only bother with these upgrades on a solo thief right now. My other classes have team comp upgrades (supply, catas, repairs etc).
