Also, slapping the yaks does not increase the total yak points, it actually decreases them slightly in most cases because of how the respawn works.

Yeah, the respawn timer is exactly 5 minutes after you kill it. Otherwise it respawns a few seconds after it completes its path.

Yeah you get a total of 3 points for a yak kill, regardless of how many players kill the yak and only if the yak has a supply path to deliver supply IE killing two yaks with no secured supply path = 0 points for your server.

Potentially stomping could provide more points, but in reality I think as people adjust to the new meta the yaks will quite possibly still be a higher source. Could be wrong though. I’m waiting on future stats to get a guage on it.

Go kill a yak in a camp with no dirrect supply route and get back to me.

You did it once and you think hes right? Let me put it this way, unless they changed it with the patch hes wrong. Ill be keen to loggin and sandbox it tonight, but I have sandboxed this alot more than once and I certainly won’t be making a conclusion from only one test. There are alot of variables here right now with the bloodlust buff combined with server score updates that are sometimes immediate, sometimes on tick and sometimes with delays.

Brainless zergs spam 1 for kills. Organized skilled players stomp. It seems pretty clear to me why you need to stomp.

Either way, I feel like this is a great thing for the game and I look forward to some more open field combat in WvW, something I have yearned for, for a long time.

In general I like the changes, but I’m actually worried that stomp-for-points will discourage open field fights in the long run. I haven’t commanded in many months, but if I were running a zerg right now and my server had no buff, I would do everything within my power to AVOID an open-field fight unless I was certain we could crush the enemy in seconds (e.g. we have a 2:1 or greater advantage). Anything else and I potentially risk feeding the other server more points than they would earn off the entire map on tick.

BG alone of the T1 servers seems to realize this principle. They have been incredibly diligent about maintaining their bloodlust buffs, and that is what will (probably) win them the match this week.

But if you don’t fight in open field, you will lose the buffs. If you lose the buffs, you won’t be able to leave your towers and keeps and it’s only a matter of time before you lose it all. If your not constantly fighting in the open field for bloodlust, you have already submitted defeat.

I’ll be interested to see the figures next week. It does appear a large difference. We just passed 38% points from non-tick. Before the patch it was around 30% I believe. But its hard to measure. A rough estimate is that yak slaps could equate for ~20-30% theoretically given a 120 average potential yak slaps per tick across 4maps (total average potential of 360 PPT from yaks). Basically, given a very small organized force on each map you could be earning more from yak slaps than your entire server does, but this varies so often from week to week that it distorts the actual figures in terms of just how much PPT is really earned from finishing with bloodlust stacks.

Either way, I feel like this is a great thing for the game and I look forward to some more open field combat in WvW, something I have yearned for, for a long time.

I actually quite enjoy it. I don’t have to enter every fight with ACs firing down on me from behind walls. I can get open field fights and skirmishes. For me, WvW is now alot more enjoyable.

EDIT: Also just to point out, Im pretty excited that certain builds from certain classes now have a place in WvW.

I genuinely have no idea why the points don’t give world experience. If there were concerns about cap trading, then find systems to directly address that. Making what’s now the dominant portion of world vs. world unrewarding was not a good idea.

I don’t think it’s so much that there are ‘concerns’ about cap trading, as the system inherently promotes cap trading. You don’t need all the points, so some get left alone, and enemies go to those. Meanwhile your team re-caps the ones they left. It’s like musical chairs squares.

That’s how every capture location works in WvW. It’s better to run from tower to tower, camp to camp, keep to keep flipping them all via PvDoor than it is to defend. Commanders are more interested in karma trains and PvDoor undefended objectives than they are in defending anything. You flip my tower while I flip yours, then we swap and flip them back. Repeat.

I find it interesting people are unhappy that players are unhappy that they are getting too much open field combat.

We have had for a while a “Friday night karma train” in Tier 1 NA. Basically if the scores are completely imbalanced and there is no chance of coming back then the majority of organized guilds don’t defend and just pvdoor. You still get some who do and most pugs do. But this is only every few weeks because often the scores are too close either between 1st and 2nd or 2nd and 3rd. Now with the new potential points in a 24 hours period this is kind of out of the question and Tier 1 at least is the most balanced its been in a long time now JQ has picked up some strong guilds.

But as for the vast majority of times, everyone will defend to the death and respawn and run back if needed.

But its like, I’ve played 5 hours tonight, less than usual because of guild missions. And I have received 2 levels in those five hours from stomping. Prior to the patch I was making a minimum of 1 level per hour as well as copious karma, coin and other stuff. Now an average night in WvW yields at best nothing and at worst a repair bill combined with upgrade costs (net loss). Anet have said they wanted WvW to be rewarding and for dedicated players to only need to do a little sprinkle of PvE but they have really nerfed this. I love the additions, don’t get me wrong. But they have really contradicted what they were aiming to do here.

If the zergs are roaming for the capture points i am glad, more fights and less bunkering in fortified keeps.

What I have found is that its actually bad for zergs to roam capture points. Thus far anyways. You need to break up that zerg into smaller groups though which I think is great. Ive noticed some stress from the commanders though, there is alot more for them to consider now :p

It does to a degree. But as I have found with the guilds I have run with, you need to draw the line somewhere. If you just keep running around capping, your not going to get the bloodlust stacks. You need to split up and get bunker defence to hold the points you have capped whilst pushing for 3 or preferably more to ensure you get your stacks at the end of the timer.

Yup. Definitely much worse since the patch. There are alot more calculations now so no wonder. I think the servers might actually crash when we get a 3 way inside a garrison.

I’m seeing commanders prioritize bloodlust over keep and tower defence. I’m seeing 90% of my time and organized guilds contesting and focussing on bloodlust because it’s buff is more important than PPT. As we can see my server, Blackgate, has been running the lowest PPT for most of the day, yet they have gained a points gap overall. Capping camps, towers and keeps is now rare. And if it isn’t, your server is doing it wrong. So my understanding is the devs have wanted to improve rewards. But they just went through the floor for dedicated WvW players. You can play for hours without a single drop of karma, coin and only a little bit of WXP for player kills. You need an absolute minimum of 85 kills to gain one level to get a reward, but in reality its usually in the hundreds and a couple of hours of PvPing.

Devon recently said something along the lines that WvW players should be able to earn what they want in the game through WvW and a little sprinkle of PvE. But the reality is WvW has become hundreds of % less rewarding to the point where we will only be getting anything substantial through PvE. So will we see any changes here from Anet?

The GvG meta game doesnt reward the individual player. We get at least 10 times more loot from a regular 1 hour guild raid compared to a 1 hour GvG.

The reward is the fun. Sitting in a tower/keep is not fun, and not rewarding at all.

For those who really care about the PPT, then they can scout.

Again, there is no reward for it, which is why we rarely see people doing that now.

Now then, back to the original post please. Is there any reward planned for the individuals in the “decay prevention” team?

There is no system they could put in place that wouldn’t be exploitable, which is why they will never reward scouting. However, in T1 servers it is pretty much guaranteed you will have scouts in all major objectives. Given any timezone, the commander at the time designates a scout, which is generally from the guild they are on. Also, some of us who play extended hours offer to scout during our “non-prime” hours so that those who are playing prime time can get some enjoyment out of the game. Scouts get rotated regularly either way. I presume your on a low tier server where you just don’t have the numbers to scout, which is more a numbers and/or organization issue than a rewards issue.

There is a base of players in this game who are solely out there for the fights. GvG players are a prime example of this. And the ruins are a good place for them to do this. They don’t care about the rewards. For those that do, they can go attack keeps, towers and supply camps. For those who really care about the PPT, then they can scout.

There is some problem that has come up since the patch. Recently whilst running with a float team of ~50 about 30 players all disconnected at exactly the same time whilst the other 20 continued on. This then happened about 30 minutes later. The first time I disconnected. The second time I didn’t. Ive been experiencing this outside of WvW also. The game actually crashes as well, its not just a disconnect.

Which Tier 1 server is getting 2 hour queues? I know its not BG because I play during all timezones and even reset (where the longest queue is) doesn’t have a 2 hour queue. Id assume its not JQ because they have less attendance than us. I can only guess its SOR NA prime?

No. Not ascended weapons. They are alot easier to get than ascended trinkets/jewels for my 8 classes. If anything, I think it would be more logical to downscale them, but that just isn’t going to happen.

Essence of luck: Drop quality?

As I understand it, Anet apparently said there is no effect on the drop rate of essence of luck depending on which salvage kit you use. But does this include the drop quality? IE more rare essence of luck if using master than basic. Basically asking, because I have started using mystics rather than standards due to inventory space problems. I understand they done this for the copper fed salvage omatic, which Im considering switching over to if there is no difference in quality over a mystic salvage kit.

As a thief I found applied fortitude a better buff than guard leech. My (glass cannon) health pool went from 10.6k health to 13.1k health. Even though it helped me with that class more, I can’t help but feel applied fortitude is just a little bit better right now, although I have both anyways and if I have to retrait when leagues start I will take those two for sure.

From there it really depends on your playstyle. I opted for 4 levels in supply master, 5 levels in AC mastery, 5 levels in build mastery and treb mastery. I spend my time in Teamspeak so I usually know whats going on. If a group is going to hit an objective I may join up or hit something else that works with this. So I may drop supply for them on, say a ram, so build mastery allows me to build the ram quicker and hence take less damage from AC fire whilst the possibility of getting more supply back. If I hear an attack on an important objective like a waypointed keep or T3 tower I may fall back and man AC if I am one of the closest to the objective so AC mastery pays there. Other times I just want to have a break, maybe have something to eat, so treb mastery will pay then

Having the same problem. Have had the problem since the last patch. Constant random disconnects. Never had problems before that. I tried removing my router altogether. I tried connecting to different networks altogether, still the same problem. I hope this gets fixed soon. The waypoint and repair bills for disconnecting in combat are adding up…

Trying to push SoR for 1st is really hard when BG never leaves JQBL.

BG what if I said SoR took your cookies AND your bacon…?

Maybe take a look in BGBL. You have an 80 man zerg keeping us there. If anything we kind of have to push you on your map to keep you off ours. We almost reset an SOR T3 keep tonight and had to pull back to BGBL because of this zerg. Meanwhile, as happens all to often in Oceanic/Sea, SORBL is near empty and JQ and BG fight whilst SOR gets their waypoints and upgrades up.

In both JQ and BG’s defense though, the best fights are between these two servers during this timezone. Kind of hurts our PPT but whatever, good fights are hard to come by in WvW except for this timezone.

I’m not opposed to the league idea. But there are some pretty big problems with WvW that will only be amplified by introducing a league. Why not fix those problems before starting down a more serious format?

Numbers are an obvious issue they need to deal with, but are probably incapable of figuring out how to do so, despite there being so many simple ways to do it. The other issue is that even if you do not participate in WvW you still get the reward for your servers success. Apparently that is the way MMO’s are played. It’s all new to me. This is my first fully fledged MMO. Not overly impressed. Pretty sure I won’t play an MMO for a long time after I’m done with this one.

I’m skeptical. I don’t think hard limitations on when you can get points on your server is a good idea. I think having rotating days is an especially bad idea and is going to alienate guilds which can only play on certain days; like if you’re a weekend guild and if you get three weeks in a row where you can’t contribute? People are gonna trickle out because they (rightfully) don’t feel like they’re contributing.

My thoughts exactly. Also, say for instance if it were a Friday-Sunday (weekend) affair you would have the hardcore gamers who want to do their best for the server pulling 48-72 hour shifts making sure that map is queued. Feels like I personally would be put into a format where I would be more likely to burn out.

Roamers in High Tier vs Low Tier

I spend 90% of my WvW solo roaming. I have played both EU and NA in the higher tiers (and mid tiers on EU up to higher tiers). Here’s what I’ve seen:

- high tier NA relies on numbers for pretty much everything. It’s become rote way of playing so while there are roamers in the higher tiers, they are fewer and far between compared to other server tiers. I have actually had players engage me in a fight in the higher NA tiers, then run away when it appears they are losing, way more often than fighting a lower tier server. It was disappointing, because it happened over and over and over again.

-EU has more roamers. Period. Even in the higher tiers. There are still zergs on maps, but you will find waaaaay more players willing to 1v1 (and if others come upon you during the 1v1 they respect it and leave you to fight), than you will in NA. Bonus: They fight to the death, so you can learn from your mistakes or they can learn from theirs, and improve.

Now the NA WvW climate is slowly changing, starting to emulate/keep pace with EU servers, especially in relaxing about things like GvGs etc… and slowly more people are getting out and roaming to test out their skills, but after spending a week in NA to visit and watching so many high ranked players run away from a fight, I couldn’t wait to get back to EU.

You make me want to move to EU, because your description of NA is spot on and EU sounds like exactly what I am looking for.

I’ve played as a roamer for the majority of my WvW gaming time. A little while back I mostly dropped that for team/guild play. Ive played from bottom to top. Some of the best roamers are in low tiers. Overall I would say low tier players are actually better than high tiers. OFC, plenty of exceptions, but just on average.

I’ve really got to wonder. Getting home this Friday afternoon, I jump on to do some of the invasion events. Full maps. 0 lag. After them I jump into WvW. Its a quiet night for WvW as the scores won’t change. No large scale fights. Just some casual PvDoor farming. Maybe 60 players on the map between the 3 servers at most. Almost full skill lag where you skills just straight up arent working. I jump back and do another event. No lag.

I don’t know what the cap is on a PvE map, but its definitely alot more than 60. There are alot more actions/skills being used in the map and its perfect. I mean really, what is the go?

The only place I see alot of talk going on is LA. That talk generally revolves around one of the following topics: Ranger balance, Thief balance, the existence of god, Religion, Politics or the servers current poor performance in WvW. But in all seriousness, if your looking to talk, most of my personal discussions are in /G chat or teamspeak. Maybe join an active guild with peeps who are social?

I prefer doing it with my guild and only my guild. We manage targets and make sure everyone gets enough hits on each champ. We will also do whats best for us and use our brain by not killing the pirate captain when champs keep spawning. Unlike a zerg that will instantly nuke him and look for the next waypoint.

I disagree with point 2. I can cap anything regardless of NPC upgrades whilst running solo so it should not be an issue in regards to group vs zerg play. Perhaps its a skill/build issue, but if a small havoc group is having difficulty flipping a camp in seconds there is a clear problem on their end.

I don’t think increasing the amount of NPCs or anything like that would be helpful. If it were to effect the supply route they are within, that might make them worthwhile. IE, slight increase to supply delivered or slightly faster delivery. Something to make players feel they need to defend.

Right now, if I see an enemy cap a flag, I let them. As far as I am concerned, thats the way it should be played. Once they cap it, cap it back. Their server got one point. My server got one point and the third server got none. If there was a reason to fight for it, like if it effected supply, then I would. But as it stands its beneficial to let players cap your sentries. On the other hand I do hit players capping another servers sentry and will fight for that one point.

Its not random. In one event I did, I was literally the only person she spawned on and it was directly on top of me knocking me down instantly. At the end when we killed her, she also spawned on me. She killed me around 15 times. The one coincidence was that in that round I fully DPS her at the start of the event and she despawned after saying she was putting me on her list. I believe there is a trigger where if you attack her she will lock on you. But if your the only one during the event who attacks her your in for a rough ride because she will only spawn on you. If others attack she may spawn on them instead. No way its a coincidence that she can only spawn on me for an entire event with hundreds of people on the map.

I found combing tasks with it would help. Like say you don’t usually use a specific weapon on the character, use it and go learn how to use it effectively. Or if you need a "slayer"achievement, go to specific areas and farm those. Also guild missions and other activities lead you to slowly chip away at them. Do some Jumping puzzles. Ive done it on two characters thus far. I was at around 70% when I started to get to that stage where it was a pain. I then just set goals for myself. Logon one night and tell yourself your goal is to explore X area and go do it and complete that area.

Ive run full zerker setups on Thief, warrior, guardian, mesmer and ranger and they all seem to do pretty decent in PvE. I have changed out the mesmer, guardian and warrior, but only for WvW reasons otherwise I’d be happy to still be running zerker on them.

I’m pretty much dropping my Necro for the unforseen future. I run a guild build for a warrior that includes a warhorn. Eight months ago, when I made the legendary, I used to main a Necro but its not a required class for me now. I guess I’ll wait and see what happens. I know a few people have legendaries that are already transmuted so fingers crossed things work out. Thanks for the input.

Long story short. I have legendary howler on a Necro. I consider the warhorn not the best option on a necro but I do consider it a better option on my warrior. Right now I could use transmute to equip it to my warrior (without losing legendary status). But after the update I may not be able to do so. With no clear understanding of Anets intentions on what I consider to be one of the most major investments in the game, I kind of don’t know what to do and I don’t have long to decide.

Had this happen. I died about 15 times to it on one event. Im not sure if its a coincidence, but I was first to attack her when she first spawned at the start of the event and she locked onto me from there. I was a squishy zerker thief and she was two shotting me (after spawning and knocking me down) and her net was one shotting me lol.

IDK. Maybe try it in a party? I have only done the playhouse once and got the achievement with a party. Some of the party joined late and they didn’t get the achievement, but those that were there at the start did. Thats about all I know.

I can only guess that there is widespread misunderstanding here.

You only need to complete one event in the ~40minutes to get the achievement for the region. You do not need to kill scarlet at the end to get the achievement. You will also get the end reward chests as long as you have not done the event in that area since reset. If there is somebody arguing that all players on a map should reduce their total rewards substantially for no reason other than to kill scarlett, I think thats pretty strange. I would understand if you needed to complete the end event to get the achievement, but thats just not the case.
