I know the kaineng thing was an issue, but its really only happened once in almost a year. I don’t think it would be as big an issue as we think.
Thanks guys lol. Yeah Im loving it. So much more balance than my home WvW. For balance discussion… Thiefs are alright, but Im loving the Necro though. They win games single handedly lol.
Try warrior.
Ill give it a whirl eventually. sPvP is waayyy different from WvW, its like a completely different game. But Ill be holding off on Warrior because the way I build them in WvW is way different to how I think they should be played in sPvP, unlike a Necro who I pretty much haven’t changed anything.
I don’t think SOS is really considered the unofficial anymore. Not after the “semi collapse”. I know there are still regulars who stayed around. I think BG might have the most active atm. Particularly after The Kelly Gang transferred there. SOR seems to strangely have a lot also, but AFAIK none of the major big guilds are predominantly Oceanic.
yep. /supply info on reset night. 80 is the most any commander I have ever talked to has gotten. This is with a full coordinated group on a map, its unlikely that a random could have run away from the herd without being seen.
You have my attention! Is it the same in EB? I have a suspicion EB is higher? This would explain why I loathe EB.
@Blood Red Arachnid, I don’t think anyone really has an issue with the 30v50 type scenario. Its when they bring 120 and you cannot attack except for skill 1 occasionally working.
It’s a kitten shame BL’s have a map cap of 80 per side, otherwise you might have a good point…
Where is the proof of this? I don’t believe that unless a dev comes out and states the cap.
Hi guys. Ive decided to quit my solo roaming days. I would like to join an organized guild.
A bit about myself. I am a male in my 30s from Australia. I have 8×80s which I try to play frequently. I work full time and play about 5 hours a night during the week and 12+ on weekends minimum.
I currently main a thief, since I am a solo roamer. But I really like playing Hammer Warrior, CD well Necro and Guardian. MY weakest classes right now are ele, Mesmer, ranger and engineer.
I have experience playing in SOS, IOJ, HOD, BG, JQ, ET and SOR. I have moved around quite a bit as a learning experience as I like to observe the way servers operate. And yes they all operate very differently.
What I am looking for:
- WvW focus
- Guild with Oceanic coverage
- Preferable tier 1
- Weekly guild events (need commendations to get ascended on all classes)
- Teams in sPvP
- Active and organized voice comms (Vent/TS etc)
- Dungeon runs with primary focus on gearing.
Among other things, I believe I may be able to contribute to any guild with my knowledge of roaming. Although the main reason behind it is I would really like to get into an organized guild that stacks and runs together and works well together.
Anways, wanted to keep it short. If you think your guild has what I am after feel free to PM me and we can get in touch.

My mind is completely blown that anybody in this game is actually in favour of zerging, bring more to win and coverage wars :0
My mind is blown that some people don’t seem to see any value in it.
What is the value in it?
My mind is completely blown that anybody in this game is actually in favour of zerging, bring more to win and coverage wars :0
Keep it in, I love that the one time my enemy manages to kill me I rally of a moa bird lol.
the only class with less to offer a group is the thief.
If you can outrun my thief doing a supply run without using portals then I would agree with you however I bet you can’t.
I bet you a warrior could do it just as quickly. You know, the one that is awesome on the frontline of a zerg!
The population imbalances are the fault of the player base, no the development. Band wagoners looking for easy wins rather then actually having to work for them.
And the game is designed to cater for those who want easy wins…
Thanks guys lol. Yeah Im loving it. So much more balance than my home WvW. For balance discussion… Thiefs are alright, but Im loving the Necro though. They win games single handedly lol.
From the 12 servers I have played on, the best small man groups play on Eredon Terrace and Fergusons crossing. There are bad groups on every server, but those two have some of the strongest small man havoc guilds I have played against. Ive played with and against most server tiers.
But if you haven’t already, I suggest you try sPvP. WvW is in a bad place right now and I doubt it is going to change. It seems WvW is only designed to cater for casuals and Anet seems intent on keeping it that way.
Maybe he is right. Maybe all those players that want any form of balance should stop playing WvW, since its all about numbers and having more and nothing to do with skill and outplaying opponents.
Again: you may take away few tools, but if players wants to blob, they’ll find a way to do so unless you make them unable to stay physically close to each other.
Leave tags alone, the solution is elsewhere.
The original suggestion would require substantially more tools, not less.
As someone who is starting to slide over to sPvP, one thing I have noticed immediately is how much more attention sPvP clearly gets over WvW. Both PvE and sPvP get so much more attention than WvW. I don’t know why.
It would be a start, but not be enough. The game still favors zerging. If a server wants to win they just have 4 pins run along side one another. The pins need to come with buffs that benefit up to 40 players. And those buffs can be only active if there are not pins in proximity. And this buff would have to work so that even if the pins did meet up for a small duration, they would still be active for a duration of time before deactivating.
Over 200 chests. No precursor. No exotic. No Ascended. Around 14 rares. Rest greens. Also got my first superior siege today (arrowcart). Also had 1x stealth disruptor and 1x supply trap.
Even sPvP rewards dump all over WvW rewards in the long run. WvW is the least beneficial place to play. If your a casual play PvE. If your a competitive PvP than sPvP. No place for WvW.
2. I levelled most of my classes this way. It would probably be slightly easier to put some crafting in there along the way and it will help you level quicker. The classes I did this with, it was slightly easier, but not much different really.
3. You don’t have to join a guild ever. I haven’t been in one other than for WvW. But there a lot of the game design makes it easier to be in a guild and you get a lot of buffs. Financially your better off with these buffs. Id suggest you find a large guild for now that has 24/7 buffs and then make up your mind what guild your looking for later on down the track.
4. You can actually make money doing things this way. A lot of people have. I didn’t, I hated crafting. There is money in crafting.
6. You should have food buffs and run either sharpening stones or whatever. The XP is great. Either level a chef, or buy them off the TP. There are a lot of good foods that are selling for 1 copper. You get so much more XP from it.
From my own experience, I have found elementalist to be the hardest to master.
41 people throwing their golems away is imo just evidence that the cheapness of certain Siege is infact a problem.
That video was from last year, well before golems were on the TP and they cost 1g for an alpha and 5g for an omega.
They did it to convince me to play sPvP instead of WvW. It worked.
I honestly thought this thread was going to be about guardians. I find them the most boring. Particularly mid skilled bunker guardians. You can’t kill them. And if you play perfectly you will be there forever. On the other hand a high skilled bunker guardian, its just a matter of time before they get you. Too much time.
Im a dedicated WvW player who recently took up sPvP. In all honesty, sPvP is in a better place right now. The developers working on WvW are way too slowly and implementing the tools in WvW that WvW players need. Id recommend you try sPvP. The game format is actually really fun.
Why so mad? If somebody wants to use their achievements list as a checklist like its designed to be than that’s there prerogative.
I run the math a while back. I worked out that if I do a very specific path for 18 hours a day, 7 days a week I could get the achievement in around 10 years of doing that. WvW gets no love. What can I say. It should have been adjusted when the achievement rework came. It wasn’t. I’m disappointed in the Anet developers who are in charge of WvW right now.
It only happens on stacked servers with super zergs on all the time. That’s what you get for bandwagoning and all jumping onto the “higher tier” servers. We get no lag EVER or any queue times, unless we’re unfortunate enough to go up against one of the mega zergs. Lags as soon as their 100 man blob comes near us all at once in a sea of red.
Last week I moved from ET where I was experiencing extreme lag over to Blackgate for a week. Then I moved back to ET after reset. The lag on ET was worse than on Blackgate. The average amount of players on an ET map during my timezone is around 10-15. On Blackgate its around 80-100. As much as I don’t like stacking, that’s not the primary cause of skill lag right now.
I’m seeing unplayable lag on Eredon Terrace from time to time. Reducing the map cap will certainly help. But when you run onto a borderland with 20 people on it and get a huge lag spike and die to a guard you know something is wrong. This has started happening recently for me. I transferred to Blackgate and it was, surprisingly not as laggy despite having full map queues. Then I transfer back to ET a week later and the same thing happening. They need to reduce the cap, but there is something seriously wrong with some of the servers right now. And as far as I know, nobody from Anet has as much as acknowledged the current issue.
That said, WvW is in a really sad state right now so Im thinking of making sPvP my home.
Both classes are among the worst in WvW, along with thief. I tend to only run small groups or solo with ranger, engineer and thief. All 3 are decent in small scale fights, but as soon as you start talking zerg or guild you are better off rolling something else.
Night capping would never fully be addressed. They couldn’t do anything extreme without a “curfew” and they can’t do that because the don’t have Asian and/or Oceanic servers. Im from Oceanic and there are a huge amount of players from both Oceanic and Asian timezone. Enough I believe to justify servers. But enough for Anet? I don’t believe so.
My god. It is so much fun. I have been holding back from playing PvP because the team concept really made me want to get really good before I started to play PvP (didn’t want to let my team down). Why didn’t anyone tell me it was so awesome :p
We had terrible skill lag before culling was removed so it won’t help. The skill lag we have no seems different to what we have had in the past. I believe they are tweaking settings to see what works still, like they said they would. But, I don’t think its going to work unless they reduce the map cap.
I placed a legendary on the TP about a week ago. I won’t say which one. Lets say it was one of the cheaper ones on the TP atm. I have doubts its going to sell :/
+1 OP. There are a lot of people upset with the state of WvW right now. It really needs some love. Anet please give us the tools and structure to make this a nice hybrid casual PvP format. The same requests and suggestions have been flowing through the WvW forums for a good 6 months now and we have barely seen any progression. WvW is a massive part of GW2 and needs love. WvW is not a side attraction for PvE. It is its own game format with a large dedicated following and I feel this needs to be more recognized. The game favors the zerg. The format needs structure to break it up. Ive seen guilds and servers try to break this routine in T1 and it just doesn’t work because 120 zerg karma train rolls over things all to quickly.
So this weekend I decided to try to finish a few of the jumping puzzles. Im not a JP person, but I have all but one of these done now (have done all but the newest one). But that’s about it. There really isn’t much left in my lists to do. I have all slayer achievements except for Giant slayer (which I refuse to do) and Im only missing a couple of dungeon paths before Im finished all those. But there really isn’t much left to do outside of dailys/monthlys. Are we going to get more Achievements in the future? Or only living story additions?
As far as I know, no developer has said that the colors are used for balancing. There has been a lot of conjecture, some not agreeing with others. If anything, yeah there are some imbalances, but im not entirely sure they are intended.
Were you fighting a Mesmer when you use dagger storm? If so the easy explanation is that you reflected a Mesmer projectile the produces a clone. If you reflect projectiles they become your own and since it makes a clone of it at the end, it made a clone of you.
Wow really? I was fighting a Mesmer! Thanks, this one had me boggled for a while.
Definitely needs a fix.
A couple people in this thread seem to think thieves offer nothing to a Team beyond roaming. I strike that odd considering we use them for various things in organized play.
Cleric/Apoth Venom Share builds with our front lines.
Shortbow Blast finisher spam for Waterfields and Chill.
Dagger storm is the longest whirl finisher in the game I believe. There’s a lot of potential with both water fields, Light fields, and Chill.I’m likely missing a few things, but they have a place in organized play. Usually Engineer or the Rangers in the guild just get “no”. This is because Grenade damage, though good, is out shined by Elementalist for burst, Necromancers for condition pressure and is subject to massive amounts of retaliation damage. This means you have to trade off damage for survivability to ensure you don’t flatten yourself. Rangers bring a long duration water field, but so does Elementalist. Though an Engineer CAN perform in a team comp, a Thief will usually be brought over one.
But all of the things you mentions, IMO, other classes offer better and/or more of them. Which of those you have said do you think a thief does better and/or can use more of? I agree with you regarding Ranger and Engineers, other classes do better, but I see the same with thiefs.
Well the blast finishers is really just them, unless we bring an engineer. We really mainly bring them for the venom share, which adds additional CC to our front line. Forcing people to blow stun breaks is important after boon strips have gone off and we try to Static field People.
Oh, and I neglected to mention shadow refuge. Very useful for stealthing our mesmers, for portals against disorganized groups.
But they do nothing that another class cannot do better?
I find these threads overly frustrating. The big issue is D/P permastealth builds where you do not have to sacrifice damage output and can permastealth in and out of a fight. It is the flavour of the month build atm and its OP, no doubt about this. The heartseeker on blinding powder does not apply a “debuff” when it deals damage. All they have to do is fix that and see what happens from there. After that they may need to nerf the traits so its not so easy to get permastealth without a reasonable loss of DPS, but Id rather they just fixed D/P stealth debuff not applying first because thief is IMO one of the three weakest classes in the game overall (along with ranger and engi).
I honestly don’t think you need that much of a reward to get people to flock to lower tier/ranking servers. I recently moved to ET after spending the last 6 months in Tier 1. The reason I left was because I enjoy the stats from outmanned buff. Not having to repair armor and the 10% WXP is attractive to me. One thing I found though, is that outmanned buff is often as easy to get on a tier 1 server as it is on a low tier server because even though they are lower tier and have less players, they are also facing lower tiers with less players so outmanned buff will pop at a similar rate. Id be happy to stay on a low tier server purely if they added a 10-15% increase in WXP that higher tiers don’t get. That said, I enjoy low tier gameplay more. More small scale fights. Less zergs. Its like what WvW was supposed to be.
You need a gear treadmill in any MMO or players simply won’t come back.
sPvP doesn’t have this level of a gear tredmill…
GW2 is doing it properly as the gear treadmill is mostly aesthetic and doesn’t give dramatic increases in ability with each tier of gear.
Ascended is the exception, that’s why its the problem. It offers significant stat advantages when coupled together.
Gear isn’t going to be handed to you. If you could gear all your players in a week, you wouldn’t keep playing the game. It’s working better in GW2 then it does in most games.
Im a solo roamer. Its a common role in WvW. I have 8 classes. I need 125 laruels to fully gear one character for WvW, using rings from FotM. That’s 1000 laurels needed. The problem isn’t that it takes a week to get the laurels. The problem is, if you do every daily and every monthly in a month you get 40 Laurels. Its going to take me a minimum of 25 months to get all these for my classes. And they are talking about adding Ascended armor this year…

No screenshots. It kind of surprised me. Because I was walking away after the fight and was a fair way away when I noticed the blue dots and ran back to see what it was and there were two of them were the fight took place. It happened just as the yaks were leaving faithleap camp. I noticed the dots when I was running up to sunnyhill and turned around and looked down the small ledge to see them.
The rune one makes sense though!
I have only seen a few cases of this, but has anyone else noticed? About two weeks back I cast dagger storm. I was trying to get two yaks and kill the player and guard defending them. I kill all of them and then I see blue on my map and was “wtf Im not in a party”and take a look and there are two thieve guild units there with my guild tags on (im the only one in my guild now as the rest quit the game). I totally forgot about it. Then last night I was flipping Titan (BL north camp) and just after I finished killing the guards an asuran guardian turns up and casts a D-Series golem and immediately after a 7-series golem appears also. He’s the only one there. I ended up taking the camp anyways but it made it a lot harder. Has anyone else seen this happen? It seems uncommon as I’ve only seen it twice since I’ve played and I play a lot.
Didn’t know you could get the amulets for commendations I am not in a guild other than the one I play in for bank storage etc.
The funny part I find about this is…if they made it say…badges and gold to get ascended…the SAME people would be in here “kitten”-ing about how long it takes for them to farm that gold without going and having to PvE. The point of ascended gear is that you CAN’T just get it fast. PLUS, WvW has a higher chance of getting ascended gear since we can get it in our chests rank to rank, which can’t be said for anything except 1 chest per day as a chance from FoTM daily. Really….don’t whine and gripe about the daily because if you spend time in WvW you can get it done fast enough as it is. To the poster..maybe if ya hadn’t have spent them on dyes at first you would have had the laurels needed. WvW’ers have the SAME ability to get ascended as PvE’rs, and MORE ability than just straight sPvP’s (since they don’t really need it). In fact, these days WvW’rs have an easier method to even get exotic gear. WvW’rs tend to moan and groan about gear till the dev’s change kitten, then moan and groan about the changes cause it’s still not easy enough -.-
Disclaimer: Yes I am a WvW’rs, and yes, I do have full ascended, and no it didn’t take me long, took me about a month and a half to have full ascended of playing just 2-3 hours a day.
To the “hardcore gamer who posted above”: Yeah…it’s time gated for a reason. Do you also complain that since it takes forever to get a legendary people with 8 full alts like you can’t get it, and therefore they need to make it so you can get legendaries like 10x easier? Heck, lets just put them in the gem store for like 800 crystals and that’ll really make them legendary!!
Wait just a kitten minute. You mean to tell me you get more than one rank a day in wvw? It seems to take me forever to get another rank. Just curious what rank are you exactly?
Honestly we all know how badly implemented wvw is right now. It rewards the wrong things, punishes people for helping their server win, and rewards carebears who don’t even go into wvw. So many problems with wvw, and Anet has pretty much made it clear they aren’t going to change anything. So relax and accept things the way they are, or find another game that makes you happy. I hate it, but that’s just how it is.
You can make at least one rank a day. Maybe around 1 an hour. My “main” character is at rank 118. Most of my others are between 20 and 40. I only havoc roam. Ive found thakittens actually not bad compared to zerging. Zerging does pay off when you get into big zvz fights, but when its not happening it evens out. With havoc you are constantly moving and doing smaller things.
I know you were talking to the guy above me. But yeah, not happy with WvW and the state its in. Ive decided to leave the game. I’ll hang around until my replacement comes, which is DayZ standalone. Its supposed to be getting released in alpha soon. So im just going to kill some time in this game before I leave.
Yeah I really loved the Warband concept. I think this would be amazing to have in WvW.
The no1 problem with limiting numbers is a lot of people won’t be able to play WvW.
There is enough capacity to have everyone who plays WvW. The problem is with the current population cap being so high and the game designed around winning by population and coverage that the vast majority of those WvW players are in high tiers. Visit a low tier server like ET or FC and you can have empty maps for the taking.
