I used to roll a roamer necro. I switch my thief and ranger classes to builds for solo roamer and now use my necro as a midline zerg class. It just makes more sense to me to have it this way. The necro is pretty decent, but it doesn’t have the escape abilities of other classes and is weak against CC. They can do exceptionally well in small scale fights and 1v1s when built right, but I wanted my 8 chars split up into specific roles and felt my Necro was the best midline and I went that way.

There are some pretty big variations in playstyle among TC players. Ive noticed some are quite organized, whilst others aren’t. This is from me playing since reset until now and yet to take a break. But there is one thing that seems apparent and that is it seems the vast majority of TC build glass cannon. You guys go down really quickly in comparison to other servers I have played against. I have been exclusively rolling my thief and with this class I don’t do team fights, I don’t even like running with a havoc group (only solo roamer), but with TC I feel comfortable getting involved in the ZvZ because everyone is glass cannon and I have a frontline to protect me. You guys did impress me that your into stacking buffs and moving together, but Im yet to see the formation. And as said above, we don’t really need to work on this because we usually have larger numbers, but the few situations I have been in where we have had less, its not a problem.

I doubt many of them consider that lucky. A higher rating means nothing except that they’re more likely to be placed in matchups where they get stomped. Yay?

What’s important is the quality of gameplay throughout the week, and unfortunately it’s going to be poor for both SoR and SoS.

I think there needs to be a game option whereby when the imbalance reaches a certain level, two servers can vote on whether to form a permanent alliance for the rest of the week. That might go a ways to redress lopsided fights.

Ive played a tonne since reset and have had plenty of great fights as usual. Ive probably enjoyed myself more this week thus far than the previous few because TC and SOS has brought some new gameplay styles. I think people look at the scoreboard different to how I do. If I was playing for SOS I would be looking to secure an improvement on my servers rating this week just like I am with SOR and the dynamic of having the dominating force this week has added a different dynamic. I understand how its frustrating to be the weaker force, but still they are putting up a really good fight and I still feel like we are being put in our place and behind in where we should be right now in terms of points. I mean, we have lost a lot of points on JQ and BG recently because we had the unlucky roll and we really need to fight harder.

Awesome! Any way to track points from yaks? I am also curious if you can make a pie chart for a server’s point spread so we can see the distribution of total points from camps, yaks, towers, keeps, and sm.

It’s not possible to know how many points came from killing yaks or capping sentries. I started to track the number of points each server has throughout the week, so hopefully I can present it in some useful way.

Im no math wiz, but if you want to calculate how many points were generated by yak and sentry kills, couldn’t you just deduce the total potential PPT points from the actual end scores and presume that would be how many points were scored from yaks and sentry kills.

This dust is getting rough. I use them to make sharpening stones and tuning crystals in WvW. I need 1 every 30 minutes. Thus far, Ive spent over 1k hours in WvW and have had 0 crystalline dust drop in there. I pretty much don’t PvE anymore, but from my recollection of Orr droprates I really don’t know how dust supply can keep it up.

My view of the commander tag is its most commonly used to gather up all the inexperienced players on the map and attempt to give them some direction. The only real contradiction to this is maybe a guild who tags up to do the same thing. I don’t think the issue is the commander. WvW has a majority of casual players and its hard to get organization and skill out of casuals.

For some reason people do that yes, it doens’t actually work tho. The server status is based on how many people are registered on the server, not how many people there are online at the same time. A dev said this once, which is somewhere here on the forums.

That can’t be right either. Its free to play game so what happens to all the accounts when people stop playing? Say 500 people on JQ stop playing, there accounts stay on JQ so the server never drops from full… So once a server hits full status it can only die from there? I know for a fact that the server population on JQ and BG drop from full to very high almost everyday, not for very long but it happens. If the registered amount is what make a server full then they can never drop from full unless people transfer out…

Im pretty sure marty’s right, i just recently xfered to a bottom tier server, i checked the population status at 4am, and it’s still very high, so i still had to pay the 1800gems. I can’t remember the status of any of the full servers though.

There is definitely more to it than we know. Right now, the 4 servers that are full are full during Oceanic. But there is a much smaller percentage of players on during Oceanic than what there is during NA. There is no way that the only thing used to calculate server pop is how many people are logged on at a time. Also, Im fairly sure Anet might tinker with this from time to time. But yes, Ive seen multiple servers do blackouts.

Sounds awesome. Id totally adopt these new maps for the current ones if they were catering to smaller size/scale fights. Although I do disagree with what you said about 5-8 man groups not being effective. Roamers and Havoc groups are extremely vital to a servers success and they contribute a very large amount of the points directly and indirectly.

Please Gut the down system in WvW already.

It was balanced (ish), which is not along any lines of “everyone hates it, it should be removed!”.

Im fine with it staying in WvW, but it needs to be balanced. Try killing me on my ranger with less than about 3 players whilst in water. Its near impossible.

Well, another solution would be to prohibit WvW play across time zones of more than, say 3-4 hours, based on IP location compared to the WvW server local time.

24/7 for PvE is fine, but doesn’t make any sense for player matches if the other team is asleep.

It would also make sense for ArenaNet to allow players a one-time server switch in case of such changes, to accommodate those players who have to play at night.

That wouldn’t work for a lot of people. A lot of people do shift work so they aren’t in a regular routine of 9 to 5. Im Oceanic and I regular play in all timezones for this reason. How could restricting me from playing in various timezones be justified?

Even more alt-unfriendly than WXP ranks is the queue system. I could deal with the different ranks on alts (especially since there is not quick respec) if we could switch to alts without having to give up your spot on the map.

So true. And it ties in with what Devon mentioned regarding roles within the game. Depending on what the situation is on the map, you may need to switch to an alternate to cater for what role is required. But first you have to get in a 45 minute queue, then another 45 minute queue when you get on the map and find out you need your hammer char warrior because your allies zerg is lacking frontline and you had joined the map on your ranger.

I just wish they would fix the ranger downed state. Unless you have multiple cooldowns up when he goes into downstate you can’t finish them because they can stun you and fear you and that’s all the time they need to res. In an evenly balanced fight with a ranger, you lose.

Euro servers seem a bit messed up compared to NA. I don’t know how 22nd ranked Ring of Fire could be running 400k mid week against a 26th and 27th ranked server. Also I think the 4th tier matchup between Piken, Gunnars and riverside is a bit of a flaw in the system. I don’t think the current system should allow for 8th ranked to be in the same tier as a 20th ranked server.

The worst of NA is probably the Tier 3 matchup between Dragonbrand, Maguuma and Stormbluff. But that matchup is still a lot more reasonable than what I am seeing from EU and the rankings don’t seem too far apart (IMO).

Perhaps Anet need to take a look at EU and the current rating system and maybe tweak it so we aren’t seeing an 8th ranked server against a 20th rank because that’s just too much right now.

Last night SOR borderlands was insane. All 3 servers filled SORs garrison and I literally could not cast a single skill the entire time I was there. I could run laps through and around 200+ enemy opponents for 10 minutes and not take damage. Overall, some of the problems we were facing in this tier the week before seem to have slightly improved but these situations where a map gets filled and nobody can do anything still happen every week.

I think a better solution would be to simply give bonuses for balanced combat and penalties for unbalanced. If a fight is 5/5 or 10/10 or 100/100, everyone involved gets X world xp. If the fight is 50/10, the side with 50 gets less world xp. The more severe the difference in numbers, the more severe the penalty/bonus.

Now – I don’t think this should be map-wide. It should be an area. So, if 100 people rush a tower that is only defended by 5 people, they get the tower; but they all get lower world XP. If, however, 10 or so break off the zerg to go cap the tower (instead of bringing the whole group), everyone gets full credit. Commanders would have the choice then to either break up their zerg a bit and send parties in different directions so that xp stays equal or continue with the zerg and handicap players’ leveling.

This would, in most cases, encourage more of a skirmish mentality that would benefit WvW in many ways (lag being one of them).

The details would have to be worked out, of course. But I think this is probably the best way to give players a choice. What do you want more? The map fast and easy or the map and the xp that goes with it?

Concerning the OP… i certainly do not support more AI in WvW. There are too many NPCs on the map already.

Agreed. Because I live in Australia I don’t get rewarded because Im from Australia and not the United states. Or then again, since Americans are PvDooring and night capping whilst I am sleeping and at work, they should get no rewards and I should get all of the rewards because they are night capping. Oh wait, the world might actually be round and night isn’t the same time everywhere. I thought this was just a storytale.

I know among my servers, displaying the outmanned buff is a huge invitation to double team. I actually go out of my way as a solo roamer to avoid fighting players when we recently received an outmanned status because all it takes is one player seeing this to tell the rest of the server.

I have just over 3k hours now across two accounts. No precursor. I guess you just have to win the lottery. I have one legendary of which I purchased the precursor. I made the coin for my precursor by buying a cheaper precursor and making a profit off it. I had most of the T6 materials I needed and it was just getting the precursor that was costly.

@chefdiablo Im pretty sure that the buffs you get are near identical whether you finish first or last in the end, as long as the scores are reasonably close and your not pulling 695PPT all week long.

I totally agree, there is not enough incentive to win. I also believe that you should be required to contribute to WvW in order to receive any form of buff and/or reward. Also, I believe there should be a small reward for server that win in a given week, whilst the larger reward should be given by your ranking rather than whether you win or lose the week.

Even if guilds would transfer to lower populated servers the issue would stay the same. It’s already hard to get your 30+ player into the same map during prime time and nearly impossible on weekends. It’s doable on really low populated servers, that’s true, but if guild really transfer to those servers they won’t be so low populated anymore.

The first step here should be to accept that numbers will always be an issue and that not every server can be on top of the food chain. People should become less competitive and start to enjoy the bracket their server is in. It doesn’t matter whether you are t1 or t7, as long as the fights are fun. Some brackets are balanced, others are not, sometimes every server has a real chance to win and sometimes one server is just dominated. That’s just how it is and no artificial rule will change it.
A few of my friends play on less populated servers and even they sometimes have queues during prime time and on weekends. But what they desperately lack is organization. And that’s also part – probably even a major part – of the issue. If your server lacks a proper organization it can’t win. A rather small but organized group can cut through a not so well organized zerg like a hot knife through butter. 15 players can take down – or at least hold off – 50 if they know what they are doing and the others don’t. You don’t need 24/7 raid leader coverage but at least during prime time you should have some commanders and the majority of your WvW players on your server TS.

Your points aren’t solid because your missing the basic mathematics behind them.

Well there are tons of stuff they can do to help the underdog.
- Half the number of players that can access a map at same time
- Allow alliances between weaker servers who are fighting a stronger one
- Make the maps bigger and allow for more strategy, so numbers don’t mean victory necessarily
- Merge european and north-american servers
- Make low-tier servers have a free transfer for a week.

Some of these ideas are horrible.

Halving the number of players per map would cripple the bigger servers and especially hit guilds hard cause it would be impossible to get an organized raid to work since even more of your people would be locked out.

As a PP thief what I do is attack slower. Im not even kidding, much. I primarily use unload and switch to DD on a fight with most classes. But with a class with a lot of retaliation I use vital shot a lot. Bleed him and draw the fight out for a long time and go over multiple cooldowns. This tends to beat the bad players who use retaliation. If they are good though, Im not sure, but I think your screwed (in my case). Just to point out also, Im running a full zerker thief and will literally die to two bursts of my own unload whilst the retal class will still have 90% of their health pool.

I don’t think free transfers would be wise at all. Although I noticed recently that it costs me the same amount to transfer to a low tier server as it does to a high tier server. I don’t think this should be the case. It should be much cheaper to transfer to low tier servers. And in all honesty I am a prime example of why, because I was tossing up between going to SOR and going to a low tier server and I opted for SOR in the end because it cost the same amount.

I seen this “join a legion” concept happen in another game. The exact same problems occurred in regards to “legion stacking”, much like it happens in WvW. I think the solutions required are much more elaborate and require many changes to fix the problem.

Im pretty sure they did. IIRC I got peeved because we took an early lead for the first few hours then showed outmanned buff for the rest of reset day and lost that lead.

Oh and I’ve left JQ for SOR. Not sure if I’m staying, but playing with them for now. Looking for something different. If I enjoy myself Ill stay, if not, I might head to a low tier server and play there for a while. Since I mostly solo roam I wasn’t sure if to do that first, but Ill give SOR a go and see if I enjoy my time there.

SoR is looking for good fights but that can only happen if your opponents meet you halfway. Bring it on and we will have only good fights.

I found out recently that IRON are really good, at combat logging. You know who you are Ele in SOR borderlands (angry face). Was a real let down but had some nice 1v1s with another TYSM ele over quaggans. I got you 3 times, but you had the last laugh. TYSM are always good for a dual, respect!

Im pretty sure the wooden chest is at least a minimum rare. Ive only got rares from them. And Ive only had a couple of silver chests, but they always seem to be an exotic.

It is interesting hearing everyone’s take on what class is the class to beat for theif’s. I hope to hear other peoples input on this subject too.

What about Mesmers makes them tough? Is it the confusion, multiple illusions, or something else?

For me it would probably go:

1. Mesmer
2. Engineer
3. Guardian
4. Warrior

There are a few issues here. For example, warrior is a great 1v1 vs a thief, but 99% of warriors are specced for zerg/large scale fights. Warriors tend to be an easy kill because of this, but if you run into a 1v1 specced and skilled warrior your in for a tough fight. Engineers aren’t a popular class, but those who do roll them in WvW tend to be good with them. Guardians are always a tough fight. Mesmers are the hardest. I don’t know why, I just don’t seem to damage them enough. Sure I own bad ones from time to time, but usually I find myself running for my life.

Lake and Briar is really hard to hold without substantial numbers proportionate to the enemies numbers in the borderland. Particularly lake as this can be trebbed from inside hills. And since chances are if you don’t hold lake your probably not holding hills and the T1 lake wall will go down quick. Breakout events are helpful though and can help you hold a few towers and supply camps for a reasonable amount of time and go run havoc on the northern areas and buy time for defenses for PPT. But thats as far as it goes. If you don’t have substantial numbers in said enemy BL than your not going to hold keeps and certainly not going to hold Lake or Briar for a substantial period of time. But breakout does give you the opportunity to hold these, albeit for a short time.

I’d argue this delay hurts WvW even more than an accidental one week pairing. Yet another week of stagnant tiers discouraging people from playing.

Doesn’t matter to me. Im enjoying playing League of Legends alot. There has been alot of changes and development to that game since I dropped it for GW2, its like Im a noob all over again.

autoattack with 1-chain. if it hits an enemy in stealth, it will proceed to the second skill in the chain and you will know you’ve found an enemy.

Also, isn’t there something called a stealth trap?

And then three Thieves pop out of Stealth, insta-down you, and stealth finish you while your allies are wondering “gee what happend to Thor?”

Sounds like your allies need a buff.

Lol. Pestering and pwning in 1v1s gives far more satisfaction and is much more rewarding than taking some impersonal tower or keep.

1v1s are what really matter from an emotional point of view. Group play is overrated.

Then why are you in WvW and not PvP?

I share the same sentiment as the person you quoted. In short, the reason I mostly play WvW more the sPvP is because WvW players are soooo bad at PvP so there is an abundance of delicious tears.

The server is not full 24 hours a day. There is about a 3 hour window on an average day where the status is VERY HIGH. That said, get your friends to go to your server if you don’t WvW because we need more WvW players and less PvE players right now :/

I’ve noticed lag seems to make situations where only one hit was visible/identifiable but after checking the logs have found that I have been hit as many as 20 times and I can only put this down to really bad timing on a really bad lag spike.

Yeah and probably the most expensive one I find is theory crafting builds. I have done so many and it costs alot to fully kit out 8x level 80s with various builds of full exotics/ascended.

If I win, you leave WvW and never play it again and only play PvE where you belong. If I win then I will never play WvW again. Rules are we play one class and have one round against each class.
