Dhuumfire is fine for its place. Parasitic contagion is in the wrong traitline.

Which traitline would then be the right one for Parasitic contagion? Bloodmagic grandmaster?

Thats where i would put it or even curses. Or I would have never put it in the game at all. It seems they designed so many traits which fit curses best so they were forced to put them elswhere. So basically forcing us into condition type builds.

I dont think unholy sanctuary is in the wrong place. Its just not good enough to justify going that far into a bad traitline. Although i would say it fits slightly better in soul reaping. But meh.

Yeah its not so great in PvP because you cant really afford to run full signets. But for PvE you can run 3 signets and BiP coupled with aristocracy runes and sigil of battle. Really good amount of might on a condi build.

Chill of death is useful everywhere though. For pvp you could just run spiteful spirit. Its not great but its something.

What happens if you are at attribute cap and you then equip a power signet? Does it ignore the cap or just not have an effect? I assume banners would act in the same way as signets.

Dhuumfire isnt bad on PvP/WvW power builds. Its a cover condition and a bit of extra armour ignoring damage when you life blast. And seeing as most people are going to be above 50% hp for most of a fight you probably get more out of dhuumfire than close to death. Especially if you cant burst very efficiently at the start of the fight.

Burn is pretty strong even without condition damage investments.

He got banned in game twice because of acc security or something. Basically he rage quit after that. Wasnt really a loss for the community tbh. At the beginning he was alright but then he went down a path of anti meta propaganda and bashing of other players because of differing opinions.

You mean, he didn’t want to change his builds to your wishes and then you and others told everyone he sucks. Which you appearantly still feel a need to do.
I still use his hybrid build on one of my necros, just with traveler runes instead of divinity runes. It’s still great for almost everything, except if you wanna go dungeon speedfarming. Then again, necros are not great for that anyway…

If thats what you think my goal was then you have no idea. Do you really think its justified to create an attack video naming and discrediting me with cherry picked comments? Just because i simply had a disagreement with him on build philosophies? I merely requested he showcase the meta build as an extra on his channel because he had a large following. He took offense and started bashing the meta and players like me who just play the game for what it is.

After that he lost all professionalism. Started showing data with flawed testing procedures and when called out on it took further offense. Meanwhile his blind followers indiscriminately insulted and attacked anyone who disagreed with him without even acknowledging the counter arguements given.

So yeah i think i have a right to be bitter towards him. Especially when i had played with him before and he seemed like a nice guy on TS. Turns out he was two faced and quick to turn against me as soon as we had a disagreement.

How was it loosely tied?
Fractals: Direct result of the election made in Season 1, also directly tied into the story of the main villain.

WvW: Main villains allies ran into the Mists and tried to establish a base there, we followed into the Edge of the Mists.

Dungeon: Main enemy have a secret base of operations/factory hidden in a dungeon, we head in to investigate.

How is those things loosely tied to the LS?

It is fully possible to do the exact same kind of connections in Season 2.

Keep in mind that we are getting a somewhat big PvP patch next week, which is also a Living Story Patch.

Edge of the mists was completely unnecessary to the story. Fractals could of been a completely unrelated instance if the vote went different. It was a filler patch with a brief link to LS and didnt really add anything to the story. The dungeon was the only exception. Also i was thinking of things like Tequatl as well. Where it was tied into LS just to give them an excuse to upgrade a world boss. There was also countless festival and event patches inbetween. These arent happening anymore yet the LS releases are pretty small now. So how are we getting the big content updates in the future?

I can picture a new world boss at the end of the season. But where does everything else come in? Some of it wont tie into LS and I dont believe they should force everything to be released as part of LS either. To me WvW and fractal updates should be independant of LS. Just like feature patches are.

Anyway the current structure of this season suggests that we wont get those sort of big content updates during episode releases. Thats what i was getting it. Season 2 is almost over and we havent had any content outside of LS. So i think my assumption is fairly accurate so far.

I want to know when the next fractal patch is, with all the fixed rewards and higher difficulty scales. Im not trying to argue with you. But they’ve changed their release system for season 2 and they havent really explained how things have changed from last season.

With the current season only releasing Living Story patches and then feature patches. My biggest question is when do we get the next fractal patch. Or another non LS related content patch. Because only doing features and LS means they have essentially abandoned everything else.

Where do these content patches fit in in the current release schedule. And will we see them at all?

They can easily fit WvW, Fractal and dungeon releases into the LS releases. Every time we have had a major release for any of those it has been tied to a LS episode.

Fractals could for example rather easily fit in with either finding Rytlock (or if he gets back before) investigate what he found in the Mists and so on.

No they only did that for season 1. They’ve changed their scheduling. LS releases are strictly the story episodes and any map content to go with it now. Before they were releasing content/event patches inbetween LS releases and they were loosely tied to LS at best. So fractals, wvw, pvp and dungeons would not fit into the new system now that they are doing things differently. At least not very well unless they plan to do a much larger LS patch.

I want to know if future feature packs are going to be a bit more content orientated to make up for them no longer doing adhoc content patches between LS patches like they did in season 1.

When i was saying unique i was thinking more along the lines of specialties.

Warrior – banners, mobility, solo dmg
Guard – group stab, aegis and various other defence
Thief – godly mobility and group stealth
Ranger – spotter, spirits
Engi – Vuln bot, Jack of all trades
Ele – Highest damage, conjures, might + fury + swiftness stacking
Mesmer – Portal, Permanent reflects
Necro – ?

Now these specialties all give the classes a reason to be picked. Some people have claimed that necro has vuln and it has a sort of portal. You shouldnt exaggerate with those examples. Yes its true necro can cap vuln. But it quickly falls off (especially on bosses) and it cannot be maintained. Engi has an advantage for pure vuln bot because it stacks it just as fast, maintains it and has higher damage. And comparing spectral walk/flesh wurm to portal is laughable. The whole specialty of portal is that its a group teleport.

All classes are picked in records for these reasons. The exceptions are ranger and engi. There often isnt enough space in the group for them. Vuln bot isnt needed as much due to glyph of storms. And an extra ele with icebow is better than a ranger. Even so both ranger and engi are still very strong picks for casual runs. Necro doesnt even have the option of being good for casual runs. It feels like a jack of all trades class without all the cards. Basically the things it does are quite a nice selection but they are all inferior to other options and the range of mechanics available is way more limited than that of an engi.

PS. I am mainly talking about PvE.

The people saying necro are hilarious, if necros had the highest damage over 5 or 6 seconds they would be meta in dungeons. Also, are we talking pve where stuff stands still or against people where they move about. If pve then eles win out due to icebow. In pvp, over five seconds probably fresh air ele, d/d theif, or some engi build.

If lich form could be used for more than 20 seconds every 3 minutes they probably would be the meta.

No they wouldnt. Please dont make things up.

To be in the meta they would have to have something better than icebow or some meaningful utility or group buffing.

Necro’s suffer from the game never engaging the mechanics they excel in. This happens to all classes, but to varying degrees due to which mechanics are currently challenged by the game and which are not. Necros happen to be on the receiving end because all their mechanics are in the rubbish pile in PvE. The mechanics themselves however aren’t bad at all – they’re just never used.

Not quite true. The correct thing to say is that necro doesnt have any unique mechanics.

This is PvE were talking about. No matter how condition heavy you make an encounter. There will always be ways to counter/avoid it. And you will be in groups. Im sure a guardian can do the job of keeping conditions of the mesmers and engies. Not that either of those classes are completely vulnerable to conditions to begin with.

Neither Guardians nor Engineers are immune to conditions. Engineers used to have a trait for that, but it got changes.

Anyhow, even then, you can trivially remove this factor in PvE. Trivially. It’s not a matter “can”, it’s a matter of “want” (and dev resources).

As an example, you probably think people would just spam-cleanse, right? Well, make a mob who heals to full any time anyone cleanses a condition (but not on transmuting it to a boon!). Sounds stupid as hell? Sure is. But did it just completely shot down any and all condition cleansing? Yep it did.
So again, it’s absolutely trivial to force players to engage in condition heavy play and worry about stuff. In PvP it’s not, in PvE it is, since you can artificially introduce whatever crazy hard-counter you want.

Forcing mechanics that only one class can do is not something you should encourage or something anet will do. Even if it means necro suddenly becomes required because of it.

Besides the suggestion you made. Cleanse and then interrupt the heal? Problem solved. No need to take a bad class.

Cleanses arent a strength either. Transfers are just a slightly more offensive form of cleanse so they can be counted as the same. And i think you are overestimating the value of epidemic even in a future where condition damage is good.

Besides even if its only engi that is better than necro at condi damage. Thats all it needs to be to keep necro out of popularity. Seeing as engi is already decent.

Its simple. If you give necro some of the things i listed. It can now fill the minimum need for some instances. This coupled with its wide range of control conditions, low cooldown no investment CC and decent damage would actually bring it up quite considerably. It probably wouldnt become something you use in records. But people would be less inclined to avoid them and far more willing to use necros in regular runs. Currently im put off playing necro in fractals because the fun does not outweigh the sense of uselessness i feel. That would change with just a bit less selfishness.

Something ive always wanted to try is coupling a necros wells with guardians blind exposure. If only guardian had a few more blasts (could use LH i suppose). The problem is that vuln provided by other classes is enough. And fights dont last long enough in most cases and if they do you are better off refreshing might instead.

Some people need to realize that in PvE Necromancers do not need as much as a rework as PvE as a whole needs a rework… I mean, come on… PvE is borked, simple as that…

What most people want is the class to be Warrior or Guardian 2.0 with some DPS Buffs or Reflects… Ain’t gonna happen (Even though Corrosive Poison Cloud would be so much better with Projectile Negation)…

Necromancer’s fill a weird niche, namely boon-hate, which serves no purpose considering enemies literally spam their boons like D/D Elementalists on steroids… And since the classes’ strength cannot be utilized, the weaknesses the class has (No vigor, good stab income, lack of cleave etc.) become more and more apparennt, especially in the race against the other classes…

If it were up to me though, I’d make Blood Magic more interesting in the sense of enabling teammates to steal health (PvP and PvE), because this would enable build diversity as one, and gives the Necromancer a unique way of “increasing damage”… Mind you, this is still far from “Solving” the issue that Necromancers have in PvE since they are just miles behind other classes in terms of combat utility…

Then again, the content now is so dropdead boring that it can be completed on any class… You could run a naked Condi Warrior if you feel like it and still complete CM (Done that)

Both mesmers and thieves have better boon hate than necros. So its not even a niche that necros have an advantage in.

Its true that necro doesnt need a rework. But it does need considerable tweaks to improve it in PvE. Mainly less selfish traits. A decent AoE dps weapon. And some useful utility. Also some blocks, projectile defence or stability would help a lot.

Another thing that has been mentioned by me and a few others in the past is a new utility type. Orders. These would provide unique area effects around the necro for a set decent duration. So they could do things like grant allies life steal/condition on hit/dmg boost/endurance regen etc. This is something we probably wont see until anet releases a ton of new utilities for all classes.

You think that the Silverwastes is more challenging, engaging and better designed than the boss fights of the Instances?

As someone who has solo’d the troll (amber), teragriffs (indigo) and thrasher (blue) of the breach, the troll (amber) is more interesting and challenging than the living story troll and the living story teragriff is far more interesting than all of them. The breaches are actually rather easy to solo. The troll (amber) is the only one that really requires movement/dodging.

Overall, in terms of challenging content, I’d say Silverwastes (small group) > living story > Silverwastes (zerg). Doing a fort defense with only 1-3 other random people for example can be a lot more fun than doing it with 10+ and the breaches are completed much faster if everyone knows how to play and is a DPS spec.

You’ve been able to get onto empty maps for SW? I wanted to do that and get my achieves. Because it was frustrating having zergs of people screw up gold and silver after i solo’d the first 20%.

Necromancer uses in PvE?

in Necromancer

Posted by: spoj.9672

spoj.9672

Mob type and difficulty has nothing to do with why necro isnt popular.

Going back to dungeons. If you look at it from a meta builds standpoint. All classes except necro have a place. All classes meta builds have some kind of group support or group buffing. The design philosophy for theorycrafting in the meta is to take the minimum support and defence you need and then take as much damage as you can afterwards. The only class that isnt in the meta is the only class thats meta build is pure dps. The reason for that is because any support necro gets is pretty poor and you lose too much damage if you try to trait for it further.

These differences in the classes can be applied in open world, dungeons and fractals. They are all equally relevant. Its just people focus more on dungeons when they are talking about the PvE meta. Because its the base 5 man content. And obviously its difficult to balance around zergs.

I wouldnt even go that far. Yes we are slightly less worse off because necro has a range of control conditions and decent base survivability. But thats as far as it goes. As for all the scenarios you listed. I can think of much easier ways to handle them with almost every other class and how other classes have much better skill sets for doing the things you mention sadly. :<

I always think of these type of threads as a place for people to show off their wishful thinking and delusions. Which is unfortunate because thats how its going to remain until Anet addresses the issues.

To clarify. I think its fine if you are describing things because you find the way necro does them fun. I dislike when people falsely claim something. Sugar coating the class is kind of irritating as it doesnt solve anything and just causes misinformation for new players.

And other dungeons you only need the wall once per fight. So there is a reason for 4/6/2/0/2 to exist. You could probably make it work in SE p3 and parts of arah.

DPS is discussion is kind of pointless though. You dont take a guardian for dps. Same for warrior.

I interpret overtuned as meaning the fights focus too much on puzzle mechanics. Which is true. I dont believe the op was referring to difficulty at all. Kind of embarrassing that everyone assumed that. Then again i guess its the OP’s fault for not clarifying.

The first fight was a good balance of puzzle and standard combat. After that it became a series of puzzles to do percentage damage. Which is really dull. It means my character, class and skills are completely irrelevant to the fight. I wouldnt be playing an MMORPG if i wanted pure puzzles with no impact from character choice.
