So i did some quick tests. It looks like the aftercast for deathly claws is about 0.1 seconds. Total repeatable time is about 1.18 seconds. Was only able to auto attack 17 times in the 20 second duration of Lich form. And for a quick test of coefficients i got a coefficient of 2.4 for the auto attack. This gives us about 2.04 coefficients per second. So post patch it seems lich form auto attack does a nice chunk more dps than dagger auto. Dagger auto has 1.4 coefficients per second for comparison.
I know for a fact that the dagger rotation does not contrinute that much sustained dps. So its safe to assume Lich is higher dps. However in very short fights the burst of reapers touch and tainted shackles should not be overlooked. So if using lich you should start the fight with locust swarm, reapers touch, tainted shackles and wells. This is because your starting burst is much higher than the sustained dps of Lich form.
EDIT: Just going by tool tip values the difference is slightly different. This is probably because Lich form doesnt use weapon strength. So im not sure exactly what value i should use for it. Even with the much smaller difference, Id recommend bursting and then lich auto attacking for short/medium duration fights.

I haven’t said my farewells, but I’ve been pretty much away from the game for months now. Looking at the recent necro changes, I guess I’ll be extending my vacation.
Yep, Spoj and Bhawb really know out class well, but I have to wonder if even they still want to continue playing a necro after all this. The nerfs of all three of our elites, and the nerf of well of blood are pretty hard to swallow.
I moved onto play all other classes about equally over 6 months ago and had the necro mostly shelved except for LS and jade maw fractal. The last few months ive barely played the game at all on any class. The recent stuff is just more of an incentive to stay away. Ill be moving on to ArcheAge with some guildies for now. Anet will have to do some big stuff to bring us back.
Thanks for the shoutout btw guys. Really appreciate it. I dont deserve all the credit, much of what ive done and learnt has changed through discussions with you guys on these very forums. So good luck to whatever you guys do and i commend you if you are still able to stick with gw2 for the time being.
Maybe they toned it down, because they said they fixed the vampiric rituals effect on wells. I have yet to try this ingame.
Situational balance is exactly the reason they keep making really poor decisions which do more damage than good.
You guys seem surprised.
@Ragion
The only place where ascended armour is required and makes a difference is in fractals. So if you are going to get ascended anything. It should be berserker/assassins. The stat difference is negligible and if you are scaled down (low level dungeons) the weapon strength of an ascended weapon is scaled to rare quality. There is no benefit to ascended other than weapon strength at lvl 80 or if you need AR for high level fractals. Keep this in mind when deciding on a build as grinding for ascended is very expensive.
You can build however you like. But i recommend only using exotics for those different builds. Which are cheap so you can get as many sets as you like. Just trying to save you guys time and money.

Yeah sorry. Had a major brainfart lol. So embarrasing. >.>
But the after cast and everything makes it very unrealistic. For the record i did actually test with locust swarm precasted and was never able to get 5 stacks when solo. Maybe i was unlucky. For your entire party to use all 25 stacks its almost impossible.
Yeah and now rangers frost spirit has a 35 – 70% chance to do 10% bonus damage. But the icd of 1 second was fixed. So thats less than a 1% damage boost. Vuln does more than an entire utility. Anet really need to stop with the internal cooldowns. They mess things up and fail at maths every single time. If you want to make something proc less just lower the percentage. Dont add an icd aswell….
Even if you claimed a stack at 0 (0.1s). You would only get 4 total. I even tested it. Not that it was needed. Its obvious you cant get more than 4 if you have a 5 second window and an icd of 1 second.
It wasnt a buff. It was a fix to their failure at maths.
It was impossible for a 5 man group to use all 25 stacks. Now its within possibility!
Actually both condi builds and power builds have it slotted almost 100% of the time in PvE. It would be a huge nerf to necro solos.
Im not saying its realistic to have a new elite. But id rather have no change than have you nerf a good utility.
Your still not giving a good arguement for why you think thats an acceptible sacrifice. A new elite would be better. BiP should stay the same. Although i wouldnt be against BiP becoming group might.
How does it help power and condi builds? You are essentially nerfing necros might up time just to get a non transform elite. You could just use flesh golem or dont use an elite at all if you hate the transforms so much.
It doesnt improve your sustain. It reduces your sustained dps. If they added a new elite and kept BiP as it is. I would be ok with it.
It does improve your sustain with 20% life force. As a conditionmancer, you will be glad for ANY life force, having life force on elite would give you a possibility to use it and then go in DS.
enemy will get 4 stack of bleed, you get 10 mights for 15s (base)
cooldown on 60s is normal for elites, i do not want it go any lower as it will be OP(with certain runes) and way spammable. You can still take Master of corruption for cd redection.…and you still can take 3 independent utilities. (SoV maybe?)
Its still a heavy nerf to damage for a minor buff to lifeforce generation. We dont need damage nerfs. Necro is at the bottom for damage and doesnt even have the highest condi damage. Lifeforce can be generated really easily without much change to the core build. Im all for increased lifeforce for condi builds. But it should be done with the scepter or traits. We shouldnt be asking for anet to butcher a really good utility just so we can get some more lifeforce for one build which lacks it. The best solution for that would be to buff scepter 3 or maybe give necro some base lifeforce regen while in combat.

I have no idea why you want to nerf BiP by making it an elite and increasing the cooldown.
SoV just needs a passive rework. It should actually sustain. Heal on hit or heal on skill use would allow the necro to sustain through aggressive play. Which fits the theme of the necro. I wouldnt even mind if the heal on hit was less than our lifesteal traits. It would still be better than its current passive.
The active should have its icd removed.
(edited by spoj.9672)
Its basically like simins petrify. Except it doesnt have a cleanse and its short duration. And it can be blinded/dodged etc.
I agree necros lifeforce should be changed. It should regen back to 100% when out of combat.
+ bug, general for whole TA:
nightmare spiders’ stun cannot be broken with stunbreakers
Petrify doesnt count as a stun. Pretty sure its intentional.
dagger 3 is good in PvE aswell. Immobilise sploits.
Passive should be life steal or heal on hit. Then we could actually have sustain. No idea why thief gets a signet like that and we dont. Thief can also full heal with one pistol whip, which is also an evade. They could even give us a weakened form in the shape of heal on skill use. Similar to eles signet. Just give us any sort of passive sustain and i would be happy with that signet.
Well with the icd, traiting it doesnt improve it anymore. 35% or 70% chance will still only proc a max of once every 10 seconds. So its less than or equal to a 1% dps boost.
Kind of funny how a single stack of vuln now does more than entire utility skill.
Yeah i know its defensive. Its just not the conventional defence (cleanse, protection, block or some kind of heal). Lifeforce isnt really an issue in PvE so its somewhat useless for defence there.
Losing your scholar rune bonus for an extra locust swarm is not a good idea.
How do you “intentionally” lose a scholar rune bonus?
Dont dodge an attack?
(edited by spoj.9672)
Well thats kitten.
I was actually slightly irked at its removal. But the really low health trigger made it kind of silly for dps. Losing your scholar rune bonus for an extra locust swarm is not a good idea. Also health trigger traits like that are usually more defensive like last gasp. And they are usually minor traits. It didnt really fit where it was. But it was a nice trait.
The best in slot armour for archeAge is craftable.
That contradicts what I said how? Best in slot armor with good crafting procs requires dozens of attempts and requires mountains of Archeum. Have fun.
It means your not forced to do group stuff to get it. It might take a long time but you can achieve that goal in any way you like.
The best in slot armour for archeAge is craftable.
Well as it is now i don t think what we have can be even called AI.
If it uses timed patterns even if they changes its not AI at all.At this point PvE cannot be balanced for anyone that did the same thing more than once.
Its not timed patterns. Skills simply have a cooldown. Bosses tend to face/reposition before an attack (gives you an early hint well before any animation starts). And due to cooldowns, they tend to repeat in a rough pattern. Which means you predict attacks quite consistantly. RNG does still impact things. And chill can also mess up the pattern.
Congrats. You discovered skritt technology. It does percentage damage. The open world vendors for the item were disabled about a year ago. But they occasionally spawn from skritt as temp environmental weapons. Happens quite often in drytop but they usually despawn before you can pick them up.
The changes were disappointing and not enough. That said the changes that were previewed are mostly fine.
Only thing i feel should be considered is Lich Form. The duration and power scaling nerf is fine. But i feel the cooldown should be reduced to compensate the duration decrease. Otherwise the nerf is going a bit overboard.
Yeah i feel the cooldown should be reduced along with the duration at the very least.
I have a habit of freezing molten berserker in a perfect mid air pose.
It should result in slightly more damage on the auto with higher power. But the duration of lich will only be 20 seconds and you can no longer well bomb. So overall its a nerf. It may be a decent buff in some PvE situations though. Depends on numbers. And we wont know for sure until the patch hits.
The issue with the ooze puddle is not the organisation requirement. Its the fact that its mind numbingly boring, tedious and unfun. Its a stupid timegate along with the electric floor room. Those types of puzzles are only fun once if at all.
Puzzles in dungeons should be quick and relatively simple. Or they should be combat puzzles during boss fights etc.
can someone please explain to me the fixation with using ice bows on small targets
deep freeze
Could be worse, you could have gotten thief threatment lol
Ive never understood this statement. If my class was popular in all 3 gametypes then I could live with the occasional nerfs or neglect. They happen for a reason. Its better to have a popular class which occasionally suffers. Rather than a class that sits way down at the bottom and never gets improved on.
1) Guardian
2) Mesmer
3) Ranger
4) Engineer
5) Warrior
6) Elementalist
7) Thief
8) Necro
Engineer, Elementalist, Mesmer, Warrior, Ranger
Try to come up with a reason why necro’s are… I’ll gladly accept the challenge.
Necromancer’s
They have twice the hit points of any of those professions.
35% up time on protection.
The ability to corrupt those professions boons into conditions.
The ability to remove, transfer, or consume condition at the highest rate of all the profession.
Highest condition damage out put.
Attrition is about slowly wearing your opponents down the longer fight goes on. Explain how thats possible when all those classes can out sustain the necro and the necro cannot survive a drawn out fight. This is why necros run condi or power burst builds. Sustain is so bad we are forced to play go all in or die.
On the plus side. I dont even need to update my guide. \o/
I was prepared for disappointment. Wasnt quite prepared for this though.
“your utility skills have been updated to provide more survivability over time.” A single cool down reduction doesnt really fit this statement.
On the other hand it seems the stable guardian is getting some nice buffs to make it even stronger in PvE.
“your utility skills have been updated to provide more survivability over time.”
Bit misleading considering it was just one cool down reduction.
Lol. 10/10
You think the game is close to an esport? With the “bunker only” setup of PvP’s single only mode, Capture, not on your friggin life is it close. Add in a team deathmatch mode without capture points, and things will get better IMO. But that’s mostly because while Capture is focused around just holding points (thus bunker), Team Deathmatch would be based around killing enemies, basically increasing the interest in GW2’s PvP. Because as of right now, there’s a reason that less than 10% of the player population plays PvP.
The real reasons it wont happen are that its a terrible game to watch. Really unintuitive for new players to understand whats going. Battles are way too cluttered. No dedicated large viewer base. Community minority in an MMO. Slow timid balance. Gametype is not ideal but its the least of the games problems in terms of becoming an esport.
Its not far off from being a good fun gametype for players who enjoy pvp. But it will never go serious enough to be an esport. And it will never have the viewers. Just like all MMO’s. Its a waste of time to push for it.
(edited by spoj.9672)
Are you sure its close to being an esport? There are many reasons why it will never happen. Dev input is not a factor.
Yeah this has always been the case. Consume and well of power only cleanse the regular conditions so they dont work on malrona poison or unique conditions such as the burn from that southsun champ event in season 1.
Thats not surprising. Whenever i used to do fractals/dungeons with my old casual guild. Half the members would down and never rally. They would keep trying to use 4 instead of tagging a mob. Many of these players had multiple 80’s, 6k+ AP and i was even on ts with some of them telling them to rally. They didnt understand…..
Fav: TA
TAFU was my favourite path in TA. Forward is still fun though.
The TA maps look great, theres some nice exploring you can do aswell (not as free as arah). Even the easy fights (wurm and malrona) remain enjoyable for me. I really liked fighting the husk boss and Vevina in TAFU. Leurent is awesome too.
#BringBackTAFU
Least Fav: HotW/Aetherpath
Cant enjoy Aether with its current timegating and puzzles. Hotw is obvious.
(edited by spoj.9672)
There is some counterplay to scepter and axe. Stealth. They require a target which means the necro has to re-target you everytime you reappear.
Then again even projectile weapons tend to require a target to be accurate. Still its a minor disadvantage and an advantage for a different reason. At least with projectile weapons you can blindly fire in front of you without a target. ;d
Fillers wont work anymore.
- You list a LFG with 3 fillers
- Someone joins your party and pays, filler leaves
- Friend of the person who joined first joins and they quickly kick you and your fillers
- They invite their friends
They now get 5 dungeon slots for the price of 1. Everybody chips 1/5th of the price to the guy who joined first and they all just got a free daily minus ~1g.
I was gonna avoid mentioning this to avoid giving people ideas. But yeah the new system is vulnerable even with fillers. Which is pretty messed up. We can only hope that anet starts inforcing lfg bans.
Nemesis has always taken a very biased stance. Refusing to use certain tactics and keep an open mind. Obvious bias leads to incorrect conclusions. He doesnt play anymore so we dont have to deal with his shenanigans.
