Thats what my calculates suggest last time i checked. But if you want to use the DS build a fair amount then you should go full berserker instead. The difference is minor. Its more important if you plan to optimise for solos etc.

I dont really play anymore so its been a while since ive done dps calculations for comparison. DnT have some numbers from a while back on their forums. They might have something more recent aswell. Builds havent really changed so those old numbers should be pretty accurate. Although they wont account for axe buffs in the DS rotation.

The difference between those examples and the ones in aetherpath is that dolphin and bombs do not slow you down. Yes they add extra time due to you having to move places to get them done. But you have the freedom to do them fast or slow. The aetherpath puzzles seem to force extra timegating on you which just makes things worse when you already experience countless timegates from cutscenes and dialogues. I feel non combat puzzles should be in jumping puzzles not dungeons. People dont do dungeons for puzzles. The only non combat puzzles i dont mind are ones like TAFU’s bee corridor. It doesnt slow you down if you know what you are doing. So its not going to cause irritation but it still makes you pay attention.

Puzzles need to be engaging when placed in replayable content. That means they should not be locked behind timegates and ideally they should have a combat element. It is a dungeon after all. Kiting oozes and jumping on panels is a poor puzzle for a dungeon. I didnt even enjoy them the first time i did them. Dungeon puzzles should be things like cliffside hammer seals, imbued shaman bubble phase etc. The hologram generators and the enrage mechanic on the clockheart are actually decent ideas for combat puzzles. But those are the only commendable aspects of that path and the holos are ruined by being buggy (dying next to generator but not dmging it).

Unskippable cutscenes, unecessary timegates, excessively long dialogues, buggy hologram generator hitboxes, player count checks, puzzles that dont involve combat and just add tedious timegating upon replay. Its an explorable dungeon path. It should of been designed to be replayable and at the same time engaging while replaying. It shouldnt give any reason to cause irritation to players. Some people dont mind the puzzles and timegating but many do. Its current design suggests it was built to be played once as a story instance.

Anyone who claims that aetherpath is the best dungeon makes me question their sanity. I get the impression they are just blinded by the shiny puzzles and newish content and overlook all the major design faults of the dungeon.

I like pretty much all of these suggestions. Would be nice if anet could implement atleast a few of them. All of them would be too much and some are a bit strong. Reverting near to death to 50% for example, but i suppose if you are reducing DS aswell then its debatable.

Ive never once claimed im knowledgeable when it comes to PvP. I understand the class at its core and can provide logical reasoning as to why it has issues in PvP. But my personal experience in that gametype is admittedly limited. Leman is one of the few players I trust completely when it comes to necro in PvP. And he has summed things up pretty nicely in this thread. Theres definately a flaw in being a class that is strong or weak depending on uncontrollable factors. I dont think anyone can discredit that. Its probably the main reason most people consider the class weak overall. Thats how i see it at least, as i like to have full control over my effectiveness.

Also when it comes to understanding. Personal experience isnt necessarily needed. Someone that follows the scene and makes an effort to understand the players they are watching to their full potential can often have a lot better understanding than someone who just plays a lot. The only difference is they dont have the personal experience or evidence to back up their claims whether they are right or wrong. Which is why i sometimes find it very amusing when people play the “you have no experience” card.

Necros boon removal would be the best if it wasnt on such high cooldown/long cast time skills. Thats the main reason its ranked 3rd. Most classes can reapply boons and cleanse multiple times. So a single burst of boon corruption is not really a major threat by itself. The game is very boon heavy so sustainable boon removal is superior to burst.

After reading this, I decided to go back to PvP after a month’s absence from the scene. Played 3 matches with my Necro, won each time and was the overall top scorer twice. My win/loss ratio (which is entirely on Necro; it is all I use in PvP) is still overwhelmingly positive as always. I look at this, and all I can think is “Wutchu talkin’ ’bout?”

I didn’t test this but it was my impression that standing in his “frontal cone” will get you hit even if you’re at 300 range. For the 2nd fight that is. But I might be wrong and it’s just a subjective feeling.

Lightning whip reaches further than 300. The range indicator is the range it will automatically repeat without you having to spam it. You can still hit mobs from a bit further away than the indicated range. Which is what we are talking about when we mention max melee range.

Max melee is op on any class. But even more so for d/f ele.

Here is the exact quote for you guys in the patch note for Death Shroud.

“Leaving Death Shroud by running out of life force now engages the same cooldown as manually ending Death Shroud by using the End Death Shroud skill.”

Nowhere does it say it was a bug. So for the people who still think it was a bug, this is proof it is a nerf and Death Shroud was working as intended before this patch.

It was a design oversight. Which they only recently felt the need to address. We dont have to agree with their decision but it is what it is. It always seemed like it was unintended to me but it was nothing to make a fuss about. It doesnt make much of a difference to most people. People are just angry because its another nerf and still no major improvements. I think the anger is justified. But i can understand why they fixed this even if it was pretty much pointless to do so.

You shouldnt get hit by archdiviner when using lightning whip at max melee. Unless you fail to dodge the bolts/leap. The thing that puts you in danger is your dps rotation and might stacking on top of him.

Something people forget to mention a lot for ele. Go max melee with lightning whip. Its really safe dps when you are out of dodges, invulns etc. For trash just take the appropriate defensive tools.

You can also high jump with spectral walk. Jump save position, jump again and load. You basically double jump.

If necro had a leap it would be the best class for mountain goating.

What exploit? Jumping in looks like it was done for fun and for no real reason.

Stacking Might with a field and blasts is unintended?

Using a Reflect/Projectile Destruction to prevent your group from getting hit by projectiles is unintended?

Using Ice Bow’s #5 skill ( Deep Freeze ) to:

Encase your target in a block of solid ice.

while the boss has no Defiance stacks (aka ccing a boss while the boss has no Defiance) is unintended?

Dropping Banner’s to gain bonuses to your parties damage is unintended?

Applying Vulnerability with traited Grenades is unintended?

I don’t see how anything is an exploit in this run, although the Firestorm part was kind of slow.

I believe hes referring to the fact that they bypassed the entire effigy + molten alliance mobs. Either way hes a BHB.

Mesmer focus was changed because it had no counter/tell in pvp when it was instant. Not because people were accidentally double tapping it. Plague should have a 1 second delay. So there is nothing to complain about.

The swapping to aristocracy and berserker trinkets is fine. Im not sure what would be the best choice in that regard. However the problem with going scepter is it would lock you into a very poor weapon for 10 seconds. When playing condi most of the condition application comes from skills like scepter 2, dagger 5, BiP and DS 2 + 5. You could start with scepter dagger and then camp d/w. So you would be bursting the condi application. However scepter 2 + dagger 5 on its own does not apply that many condis. So i dont feel its worth while. The only merit to having scepter in the rotation is for poison. But thats probably not worth sacrificing the faster high dps high bleed proc dagger auto for.

Ghastly claws is low dps. Dagger auto passively stacks a lot of bleeds. If you combine that with warhorn you can sustain about 10 stacks of bleed just from passive procs. If i was to build a hybrid now it would probably be d/w + d/d with rampager gear and strength runes and using signets for might.

The best choices for runes are strength or aristocracy. But in a hybrid build you will want too focus on power slightly more. Thats why i chose strength. However you can get 6 stacks of might when using the heal signet if you use aristocracy. So either would be fine.

The reason for rampager is simple. Necro lacks crit chance in most sistuations. Assassins armour is better than beserkers in most situations for a power build. So the same can be said for a hybrid build. You are simply swapping crit damage for condi damage and keeping the high precision.

Terror is build defining. Its one of our only traits that changes some major combat functionality. Traits which do this are build defining because they are most often only used when being built around and even if not they have a very noticeable impact(terror, fresh air, persisting flames, phalanx). No matter how you look at it its a grandmaster level trait. Its certainly better than most of our actual grandmaster traits and one of the few more interesting traits in the game. Moving it would obviously cause terror necros some serious nerfs. But ive always felt it should of been grandmaster from the beginning. You can compensate by moving master of terror to adept or something.

I’ve found that the fastest TA runs I’ve ever had were with two guardians and three necromancers. It’s what you make it, really. I’ve also taken my necro into Arah and done fine. If you worry about min/maxing, then of course you’re going to be stringent on that kind of thing down to what class you play. It’s not like doing things becomes impossible the second you roll a necro. Get some friends and work with each other.

Doing it faster than other classes is impossible though.

Since fgs was nerfed these times are probably not possible anymore. But IB and glyph of storms abuse would allow for pretty similar times. You cannot pull off times this fast with a necro. You start to miss things when you take a bad class.

Staff is not a power, condition or hybrid weapon. Its a utility weapon. It just so happens that most of necros utility comes from conditions.

Undodgeable attacks are unacceptible design wise when considering the necros current design. Mai trins pistol shot and the champion orrian warriors blade trail are both undodgeable. Theres probably a few more. But those ones stand out. Hopefully anet wont add more.

You can make up for the inability to avoid those attacks with help from teammates or face tanking in DS. But i dont believe thats an acceptible justification to allow such attacks which hard counter the necro. Obviously the main issue with necro is what Bhawb mentioned. Nothing special, no worthwhile group utility and average DPS. But that lack of defensive options also contributes to the necros overall poor state in PvE. Its bad across the board. However some issues are more important than others.

Never really noticed much of a difference. And condi damage is always a pain to calculate so i cant really say anything conclusive. It probably is slightly better for longer fights or sub optimal groups.

But then you might be seeing better dps simply because of the precision main stat. Assassins gear is slightly better than berserker for the dagger build in pretty much all situations. Except for when using spotter and max precision food. Seeing as rampager has higher crit chance and necros have a decent amount of passive condi damage. The ferocity and condi dmg stats probably amount to roughly the same dmg increase. So i wouldnt be surprised if rampager and assassins are close to equal in terms of dps. Rampager pulling ahead in long fights and assassins in short fights.

True. But thats just being pedantic. When calculating you use the average weapon strength. So the value used in calculations is a constant in this case. Which is why I always think of it as a single value. In game its a range, when calculating its a static value.

I prefer dagger in open world personally. I know lots of people prefer the DS build when not doing dungeons though. They are both fine for casual PvE so just play what you prefer.

Lich doesnt use the weapon strength of your equipped weapon. It uses a static number instead. Its probably 1000. But theres no way to be 100% certain without extensive testing.

A skill has a power modifier, (aka its power scaling), lich itself has the base value of a staff of the rarity of your weapon

This quote is incorrect. Skills do not have power modifiers or power scaling. They have coefficients. Lich has a static value which is equivalent to the weapon strength you use to calculate damage for other non utility and transform skills. As Blackmoa said. The damage is calculated using power, weapon strength, skill coefficient, armour and bonus modifiers.

Nope you are right. I did 17/20 instead of 20/17. Fail. No idea why i didnt notice that. I guess my brain has been rotting for a while.

This explains why my tooltip values showed a smaller difference. Lich is 2.04 coeff per second and dagger is 1.4 coeff per second. Still, the end conclusion is the same. Open with burst and then use Lich form for short fights.

No you will have recieved the gold from 1 player and then get griefed. They will make a profit even if they just give the instance away to friends and split the cost the original griefer paid. The only possible way to sell is to use a proxy party and get the gold from all 4 buyers before inviting them into the instanced party.

why, 100b automatically always connects every hit?

Hes referring to the projectiles. Even when standing inside the mobs model and completing a full WW it will sometimes fail to hit with every projectile. Theres some RNG involved with getting a 100% hit on WW. 100b is far easier as you only need to complete the channel while being in range and facing the right direction.

You dont need to set foot in a dungeon to get that title. I imagine most PvP’ers are closer to having it than actual dungeon runners. We spend our excess tokens for money not collections. Kind of a joke really.

Its another bug which should of been fixed asap. But not on the same scale. These dungeons cannot be completed at all at the moment. There is absolutely no reason to defend anet on this. They kittened up and they need to sort it out sharpish. I dont mean within a month or so. I mean as priority number 1. They already have a kittenstorm of complaints going on and veteran players leaving. These things only make it worse for them. At the end of the day its not our problem. We can move onto another game. Im sure Anet doesnt want that.

Gamebreaking bugs never get hotfixed *cough*cliffside fractal*coughcough*. Hotfixes are only for gem store items or gold generators (TA story)

The cliffside bug wasnt gamebreaking. If you didnt fall off then you would have no problem completing the fractal. I thought a full party wipe reset the hammer though?

Your build probably doesnt have a lot of power or ferocity? The change made lich weak for non power based builds. But slightly stronger for berserker builds.

Yeah afaik its suffering from the same display bug as plagueform. You simply cant see the bonus toughness/precision. But its still there.

The duration decrease with no cooldown decrease makes it an overnerf though.

Nope, would have needed a 100% buff to the over time healing to keep it on par, but they only gave it 50%.

I am almost certain that they intended to keep the total healing the same but they made mathematical errors.

There seems to be a lot of those mathematical errors going around recently.

Endboss doublehit spot has not been fixed, its just not visible that you doublehit him anymore. Just open the log and you can proove it!

You can see the damage over his head if you place your camera correctly :P so it does indeed still work.

Confirmed, did TA earlier today, observed the same behaviour.

For some reason, our cutscene had to trigger 5 times though. -.-"

That always happens if everyone runs at the trigger point at the roughly the same time. To avoid it one person should trigger and the others hang back slightly.
