This change hurts all the people complaining about stacking, more than it hurts us. Its a stupid change which makes no sense (area denial to stop you from meleeing AND ranging, wot). But i wont complain, we should see some casual tears soon. And then we can throw it back in their whiny faces.
Were talking about attacks though. Attacks should have tells. The kind of things you are talking about is something like the arch diviners reflect buff or the grawl shamans shield. Those dont really need very clear tells as the effects are reactive. But things which do damage to you directly should have tells and shouldnt be cast in stealth (Hi mossman) or diguised by particle effect clutter. Theres plenty of bosses in this game with terrible tells, but they are often so weak that you can just ignore them. Thats boring, they should be more powerful and the tell should be possible to react to.
Yakslapper > Crabgrabber > Omnomnivore. Everything else is just meh.
Best boss in the game → risen mob pack in arah.
For ascended highest weapon strength is 1060. For exotic it is 1010. This is only for scepter, as different weapons have slightly larger/smaller ranges. I assume you are calculating this for pvp so you should use the exotic value.
Does weak point apply its vulnerability before or after the damage from the hit lands? I assume it’s after, but it would give me an extra 1% damage if it was before :P
Same goes for might combo’s – if we place a fire field next to the target and blast the field, I’ll assume the might comes after the damage is done.
Most skills apply the condi before the damage. I think its safe to assume its the same in this case.
Not sure about boons though. Some blasts have a delay before you get the combo effect, so the damage clearly happens before you see might on your UI, but that doesnt mean you dont get its benefits. Im sure someone else can answer this one more accurately.

Yeah im just annoyed that things arent really going anywhere. I mean they added 5 new grandmaster traits with the feature patch and not a single one helped necro in high end pve. The only decent trait was a pvp/wvw trait. Necro is in pretty much the same place even with 5 new traits and some balance tweaks. Things need to be shaken up for all classes. Its really getting boring at the moment.
If an attack is untelegraphed. How are you supposed to avoid it? Thats not good design. If its a 1hit KO then thats just unfair and forces stacking passive defence. If its weak then you just ignore it and its not good design either.
Look at what happened with condi. They added dhuumfire, condi pressure went way up. They nerfed condi. Now its in a decent place with a decent change to dhuumfire. They need to take the same risk with siphons and power builds. Not taking a risk and keeping the class where it is doesnt solve anything.
Except condi isn’t in that good of a place. They added Dhuumfire, nerfed our damage, then took dhuumfire away and left us with the nerfs. If you’re an amazing player you can do it, but without basically perfect play you don’t do enough.
I mean the condi pressure is in a good place. It could maybe do with a few reverts on the bleeds. But the main issue with condi now is the same for any necro; can be focused out of the game.
They need to risk giving us much more survivability and then see how much they need to nerf from there.
Obviously thats partially true. But if a boss has an attack the requires some kind of reflex but doesnt have a decent tell then surely thats bad design.
Most bosses with clear tells are either overly simple/easy or the interesting mechanics can be completely ignored. But overall they are not badly designed. They just need some tweaks to bring them up to a more respectable difficulty according to the games age.

Well its viable, but not optimal. The aoe weakness, blind and condi transfer can be optimal in a select few situations though. Focus is your go to vuln and burst. Warhorn is your aoe cleave and cc. Dagger is your debuff and condi cleanse. Its the defensive offhand basically (offensive if you spec for condi damage).
If you like to solo, then its a very good combo to have. As going focus and warhorn limits your defence in more dangerous encounters. If im dealing with mobs which are quite dangerous and maybe apply conditions. Then I take warhorn and dagger offhands for cc, blind, condi transfer, weakness and aoe. Otherwise I just go for warhorn and focus for more dps.
The build im referring to is the one in my sig btw. The idea is that its max dps but you swap utilities and weapons to whatever is most appropriate for the encounter and/or your skill level/comfort.
Yeah the scaling on that was borked so it was easier to solo. Although i helped some casual friends in groups. That was tough. >.>
You can just use a standard dagger power build and use a dagger offhand with it. Focus and warhorn are generally better than dagger offhand for pve. But dagger offhand still has its uses and if you want to use it you can. Offhand dagger is also quite good in pvp/wvw thanks to the condi transfer.
Sam you know i dont have that much playtime to devote to anything outside our daily dungeons/fractals.
Teq > golem > dinner > dungeons + fractal > bed

Id recommend ele, mesmer or engi based on what you want. Engi can be a little complex but its a good pug class. Ele would be your best choice but its somewhat challenging to stay alive on. Mesmer is very easy to survive with, simple to get the hang of, difficult to master but can be very weak in a lot of situations.
They did actually add some content that they specifically said not everyone will be able to do. Last time the bazaar was around there was that challenge thing with stopping the aetherblades from stealing all the loot. But that ended up being a bit of a cheese fest. And the mobs were a bit over the top with spammable cc and conditions. So it was challenging in the wrong way. But atleast anet have tried to introduce some challenging stuff. I have a feeling that the negative feedback from that challenge mission has made them reluctant to do it again though.
Erm any form of projectile block even if its just on you is vastly superior than face tanking in DS.
Multiple projectiles come flying at you that would normally down you? No problem ill just negate all of them in a limited timeframe. Projectile might hit teammates? No problem, just stand infront of teammates and you can use it as a group projectile block (projectile blocks destroy the projectile which means they can be more useful than reflects in some cases).
PvE has a wide range of high damage projectile attacks. DS is not viable for most of these for any sustained fight. Yes reflect is preferable, but the main reason for taking reflects/projectile blocks is for the defence side of them (this is why d/f ele is so good in fractals). The returned damage is just a bonus and can often speed kills up.

I know it’s hard for them to adapt, but what I mean is that I don’t feel it’s badly designed just because people can’t get out of the afk spam 1 on bow mentality – forcing people to go out of their comfort zone I feel is a good thing. It kind of just annoys me seeing the remark thrown around about how everything is badly designed, you (not literally you, but “you”) disliking something does not make it badly designed in any way imo.
Agreed. You can be pedantic and say everythings badly designed because its too easy. But the reality is some bosses are very well designed, they just dont do enough damage.
no obvious animations or cast times
Come on now, the projectiles are pretty slow and the necro turns into a glowing green giant, I’m not really sure HOW it could be made any more obvious.
Being a glowing green giant isn’t a animation, its a transformation.
Isnt the giant green waving arm obvious enough for you? Or how about the incredibly slow moving and visible projectile?
The thing is I think necro is in a place where they need to gamble and risk making them op for a bit. Its the only way the class is going to improve.
Look at what happened with condi. They added dhuumfire, condi pressure went way up. They nerfed condi. Now its in a decent place with a decent change to dhuumfire. They need to take the same risk with siphons and power builds. Not taking a risk and keeping the class where it is doesnt solve anything.
Bosses with instant attacks or poorly animated tells are bad design. Most bosses are actually fine except for being too easy and many of their telegraphed attacks being so weak you can just ignore them. Buff them up and they becoming more challenging and pretty well designed.
Alphard is the perfect example of this when they bugged the barrel pull, as soon as that attack became a party wipe the boss turned into something you had to pay attention to. Now its back to faceroll afk.
Crabgrabber and proud.
Sacrifice 50% LF to summon a Wall of Bones, which blocks attacks and projectile spells for 3 seconds in the target area of 180 radius.
Why would you sacrifice something that can ‘tank’ an attack..to block an attack..thereby still tanking it?
maybe 25% would be a better number.. 50% and by the time its down, you’ll have no lf(due to it slowly dropping while you’re in it).
necro is quite appealing in pvp and wvw.
We need to find ways of making it more appealing in pve.
maybe make bleed for might, to stack might on party members? (stacking 7 bleeds on you .. the original 2, +1 per party member).
Projectile block would be perfect to make it more appealing in pve. I assume you are primarily a pvp/wvw player if you consider tanking with DS just as good as a projectile block.
Pro tip: projectile block is vastly superior in over 60% of encounters.
Your going to find it hard to find people to leech off dub. Fractals are unrewarding so people only do them for relics or ascended boxes/fractal skins. So anyone that is willing to give up the chance for that after spending 40+ mins is rare even for a fair price. I would of given you my slot last night if i only played fractals for fun. But i still have some skins to collect and my lack of dragonite makes me play the ascended box gamble. Besides i got a hammer last night so I would of lost out if i did give you my slot. :<
Anyway why dont you just do your dailies and get those rings with laurels instead. So casual.
Weve found that using 1 ele and 1 guard for fgs’ing mossman isnt usually enough for 38 (most of the time you get him to about 20% hp before people run out of blocks/evades). Unless you get lucky and manage to see whats going on. 2 eles and 1 guard should be plenty for both 38 and 49. But having 2 eles and 2 guards is pretty much guaranteed to get the kill. My group rarely stacks classes so we tend to fgs to start if we have an ele and then fight normally. More fun that way anyway.
Having signet of rage traited is essential to having perma selfish fury. Having perma fury is pretty important to maintain 25 might. If you lack crit chance, your might stacking lowers. Arcing slice is a dps loss even if you dont have berserkers power whereas signet of rage gives you perma fury with only the need to cast it once every 48 seconds. Not sure how much you need to cast arcing to maintain fury. But i suppose thats worth looking into.

Maybe you should learn to play thief or ele?
the build u linked is a MM build and not a support
FTFY
A build is not defined by gear. The best support builds for pve all use berserker gear.
@op
Necro doesnt have many options for support. The best way to contribute to your group would be to provide control conditions, condi cleanse, crowd control and some blinds/weakness. So this means you probably want to spec for wells or atleast slot wells instead of minions. You can actually trait for full dps and still do this pretty well.
(edited by spoj.9672)
No its not the same. You were simply griefed by people kicking the instance host and destroying the instance. The previous bug was people using the merge feature to destroy instances without initiating a vote kick (straight from the lfg tool, they didnt need to be in your party). This could also be done even if both merged parties had a more than 5 players total.
Yes it works fine. Use gift of ascension, 250 ectos and 3 globs of mist essence.
Teach me please!
Wow that is terrifying.
On related news…
“Where did my feedback go?!?!?!?” Myself, Arah p1 last boss, 2014.
Have no fear! Missile deflection warrior is here!
I already have a human female necro. And 6 other human females. I think its time i got the harem going.
Guess it has to be vigil then. Cant find any other trousers that I like.
No bulge. sad Lilith
I dont need to show it off.
Guess it has to be vigil then. Cant find any other trousers that I like.
It shifted a lot with the ferocity change. I wouldnt say guangs numbers are correct. But theres probably some truths to them assuming he made the same (hopefully reasonable) assumptions for each class.
Edit: Cant find the rankings. Seems guang removed the original post and linked his new ranking thread instead which excludes some classes because hes lazy and only considers solo dps.
From what I can remember of the original thread it shifted to be:
Ele
mesmer (still unrealistic)
Thief
Necro
Warrior
Guard
Ranger
Engi
Basically necro moved up some places and guard went down some places. But I have no idea what assumptions and builds guang used for these. So this list could be completely wrong.
Necro isnt even uber strong in PvP. Its only strong in hot join. But no good team will take one because it can be focused and trained for the entire game.
@Tree
A lot of people have been asking for more finishers for necro. Rather than a trait that puts a blast on DS. I would prefer weakening shroud to be a blast. It wont be as frequent as a LH ele but it would be a 100% blast every 7-10 seconds. Blasts on axe 3, warhorn 4, dagger 5 and projectile on focus 4 and dagger 4 would also really help the necro. All of these together would be too much but i definately feel some of them should be implemented.
Smilies are my anti infraction shield! They dont always work.
You could probably do it the same way as colesy did on the warrior. Take parasitic contagion for sustain. Use consume conditions, plague signet and deathly swarm for condi cleanse/transfer. Proceed to faceroll.
You do already get other benefits. Take PVT/clerics and you become immortal.
In WvW you can die in a zerg, for sure, WvW roaming you won’t die but you won’t kill anything, if the target see that can’t kill you, they just leave.
In PvP will be just like WvW roaming, but that is kinda good to hold an area.
In many PvE bosses you find 1 hit KO mechanics that doesn’t matter how tanky you are, you’ll die. So in those scenarios you’ll only drag the party down by not killing the boss faster.
Please list the 1 hit attacks that will 1 hit someone in PVT/clerics etc. I can think of maybe 3 total? Even in berserker a lot of claimed 1 hit KO’s wont completely 1 hit most classes. They will maybe 1 hit thieves and eles but the other classes they will do like 90% of their hp. If those classes build passive defence and stack prot then the danger is completely bypassed even with terrible avoidance management.
I actually find it shocking that people can actually die in PVT/clerics etc since we did that no dodge arah p2. I have never experienced anything as faceroll as stacking passive defence.
I’m a little surprised that no one has thought of putting a second or two(?) of stab on the Dark Armor trait. Give that a balanced cooldown, and it would give easy access to something Necros kinda need.
EDIT: This would affect Life Transfer, Life Siphon, and Ghastly Claws, if you’re curious.
EDIT2: Maybe move it up one on the trait tree. Maybe.
EDIT#%%
#$: As for SoL, remove the movespeed, have it buff lifesteal like Bloodthirsty, give it an initial heal that scales down based on how many enemies are nearby.
Thats just causing the same problems as foot in the grave. We want some reliable stability without being forced to trait for it. Even if its very minimal, all classes should have atleast one utility that helps them deal with their main weakness (in this case cc).
I wouldn’t consider fractals a waste of time. If you think about it you’re getting an ascended weapon or armor piece valued between 50-100g every 6 runs or so. Something’s off about armor chests though. Since their introduction I’ve gotten about 8 or so healer chests, 5 malicious chests, a few defender chests, and absolutely 0 raider (useful) chests. Oh well guess I can throw those on my alts for wvw.
Id love it if those odds were true. Weve been doing fractals almost daily and ive personally had 2 ascended boxes total (healer and defender). The rest of my group has had similar numbers, with only one seeming to get an abundance of malicious chests. But even so no where near 1 box per 6 runs even between all 5 of us. RNG yay! But yeah there always has been a strange trend of getting the boxes or skins you dont want/need. Ive had like 3 fractal scepters and 2 harpoon guns since the fractured patch.
You mean from 0.0001% to 0.00011%.
Left.
I know im just feeding liliths ego. But hers is clearly the cutest of those 3. Its very close though. :P
You can bunker with active defence and berserker gear in pve. So that throws the bunker arguement out the window.
This community makes me sad. :<

I like it.
Im not sure why they even felt the need to change stacking sigils in the first place. The exploit was a workaround to their poor decision. The latest fix is a bandaid which causes more problems than it solves and renders the sigils even more useless than they were with the underwater exploit. It wasnt as if the sigils were totally op and needed to be changed. They should revert them back to pre feature patch (exclude double stacking) or just completely remove them from the game.
