@Eduardo – I also got, “Crime doesn’t pay.” in /g last night :p
@Login – Yup, http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Reaper's_Protection
Ugh, that’s just silly.
… and knowing is half the battle.
In Wv3 last night I was holding onto a fear for a bit, so I stealthed into the front of an enemy zerg and popped it and it definitely seemed like I feared myself.
Has this happened to anyone else? Is it possible the fear I cast was overwritten by another player’s?
Suffice to say the ending was not pretty.
I usually start with shortbow to make them feel at ease and then swap to dd for the instant kill…. That said, venoms are the easiest way to land backstab. Like others have said, I run a great deal of soldier’s gear (p/v/t), but I still have some zerkers mixed in with runes of thief. Not going to lie though…. there are times when I just want to run pd, but I’d rage the first time someone could just walk away from me.
Just switched from p/d to d/d (sb on the side)after getting frustrated by runners and not getting the kill. The set up you describe is exactly what I did last night as we were painting my BL the correct color… so many more badges now
BV (+ all boons from Rubicon set), stealth on steal with mug, backstab, 22222
A single cooldown is shared by all sigils.
30 in Shadow Arts… the rest kind of up to you. I run this -
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VeV-R3;0RwkZ0N5FOFd0;9;4E9T9-2;05;037A1W (copy/paste)
as it provides a little more upfront damage from the short bow (my primary wv3 weapon).
It’s not as tanky as some of the other builds, but it can put some hurt on.
Screenshot of a screenshot? We must go deeper.
Yo dawg…
I hate that I’m losing because of powers beyond my control. I hate that CD is turning into a pve server. But I won’t jump ship. Because when you fight in wvw the people, the pugs, the other guilds you fight alongside with are your COMRADES. And you don’t abandon your comrades just to find greener pastures.
I don’t know if CD will be behind me, but every hour I have of free time will be spent jamming my greatsword up Kain’s rear end!
I’ll do my best… but we are pretty absent in W3, and in these forums.
Frankly, I don’t understand the exodus… but whatever.
LFG – harassment/roaming/campninja
Tagging this thread… I need to learn the perma-stealthkitten
As someone who primarily runs SB in WvWvW, I’d say 15 in DA is almost mandatory.
Choking Gas with weakness is good.
The reports of my death are greatly exaggerated.
I ran a build very similar to this, another 30/0/30/10/0 build… a little more focus on self-survival.
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VeV-R3;0Rw-d0N5FOkd0;9;4T-T9-24B;138A1W
Used SB and P/D
Basically lots of poison application through Choking Gas or Spider Venom, Potent Poison, Residual Venom, and self-heal through Leeching Venoms.
Cluster Bombs with Spider Venom are zerg stoppers with this set up.
Guys, guys, guys…
It’s all my fault, I’m that SB thief spamming Cluster Bomb and Choking Gas in WvW.
I’ll reroll.
Gonna be fun…
Welcome DB!
’sup FA.
Dont give up yet guys.
ouch…
I like poisons/venoms, but another option would be to drop the DA and go CS and pick up Side Strike, drop Uncatchable from Trickery and grab Flanking Strikes.
You’d still get conditions from Choking Gas, DB, and 3rd dagger strike… just a little more bursty…. may try that myself
This match up isn’t even enjoyable. It’s gotten to the point where this happens…
Let the kitten commence. -_-’
I dunno… that looks like a lot of fun to me =D
Good grief… what’s happening to IoJ?
I was kind of skeptical of Venoms as well and traited briefly out of Leeching Venoms and went back. Why? I can get over 2k health back if all Spider Venoms hit (6 with Residual Venom), and I noticed it missing more so than the Hidden Thief trait I tried briefly.
Venoms are a great mid-fight deployment, since we’re P/D we’re in for the long haul anyway.
Wait for your opponent to use a condition removal, CnD, Spider Venom, Sneak Attack… you’ve got some health back (Leeching Venoms, Shadow Rejuvenation), you’ve burst them down some and stacked some weakness.
No it’s not perfect, yes I wish it was condition damage and not duration, but you’ve got good survivability and some ability to burst and heal at the same time.
In higher level Fractals and other dungeons with dense enemy populations, you want to invest in 15 Deadly Arts for Weakness on Poison, and put down Choking Gas over as many mobs as possible. You wouldn’t believe the difference that mass Weakness has on big fights. Those glancing hits add up.
Great for freaking out that incoming enemy zerg too…
I kind of run a mix of both with 30/0/30/10/0:
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VeR3V;1Rw-d0N5FO;9;7T-T9-24B;138A1G
(copy/paste)
It’s primarily for SB use in WvW, but I use P/D as my offhand and it does pretty with that too.
Running all Carrion gear.
Looking forward to killing IoJ and FA… and running back from WPs after I get stomped.
Good luck!
I’d just like to have a general idea of what we can expect in WvW updates… where I spend most of my time when I’m not out doing PvE to pay for repair costs
(and thank you arenanet!)
Yeah, it’s definitely can be a money sink. I’ve occasionally come out ahead. A day or two of PvE usually puts some gold in my pocket. It’s also a nice little break to faceroll mobs
I am sorry to tell you , but P/D thief lack mobility
, ofc you can prove me i am worng , maybe we try an 1 vs 1 next week
eh….
swap to SB
Signet of Shadows
Shadowstep
Steal
Infiltrator’s Signet
Haste
Scorpion wire
Ice Drake Venom
Caltrops
Fleet Shadow
Any of these will allow a P/D to catch up to you… one way or the other.
4. P/D thieves typically don’t have tons of toughness, they just stealth a lot. That means if you get your timing right, they’ll fall to burst damage.
I don’t think this is correct. A P/D thief is gonna use CnD a lot and will want at least want the extra second on stealth (15 SA) and likely the health regeneration that comes with a full 30 points in SA.
I can’t understand why some CD players still assume there is some alliance with FA and ask us to avoid FA.
Obviously, FA is hitting us everytime we hit IOJ. Also there are some spies in CD you can see some guild in both FA and CD and the spies enjoy watching their own server mate die. WAKE UP CD! THERE IS NO ALLIANCE WITH FA!
A million times this, I haven’t been able to play as much as I like over “the holidays” but a simple look at the map tells anyone that FA is no longer interested in IoJ but more interested in gaining 2nd from CD.
Last thread I had said FA and CD should focus on IoJ… let them know how T3 rolls, apparently not so much…
/my bad.
I for one will not be attacking FA unless I get scooped up in a zerg. I will either be in IoJ BL, EB, or my own precious and glorious CD BL. I have no intention to give IoJ the time of day.
There I said it, so what.
Folks should upgrade what they can afford if they can and move on.
There are plenty of ways to get stealth other than CnD, SoM heals for more than HiS does, even if you dont count the passive on it. If you need a condition clear, Shadow’s Embrace is a better option than HiS, since it is a passive and will work every 3 seconds, vice every 30 seconds.
I believe you are mistaken.
HiS base heal is higher than SoM:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Signet_of_Malice
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Hide_in_Shadows
In addition Shadow’s Embrace works with HiS not with SoM
Heh, that’s pretty much what I run:
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VeV-R3;9;9;7T-T9-347;138B1M (copy/paste)
edit: oops bad link
(edited by stinkypants.8419)
If you’re looking to mow down opponents in 1v1 or sPvP, no… but I’ve found this build to be pretty good in WvW as a short bow support role:
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VeV-R3;0Rw-d0S5FOFd0;9;4T-T9-347;138B1L
D/P as other weapon set.
Spamming poison/venom for heals, damage and might.
Incremental changes… I was hoping for more, but honestly I don’t think this is too bad.
And no nerfs, so come on… be reasonable
Don’t knock the Venoms from Deadly Arts. I run a SB support build for WvW using this:
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=VeV-R3;0Rw-d0N5FOFd0;9;4T-T9-347;138B1Q
Choking Gas, Cluster Bomb, and Venom Sharing can knock that incoming zerg back on its heels.
Reduction of Venom cooldown (to 36s) is not only a damage boost, but a heal as well from Leeching Venoms.
Might stacking from Stealth, Venoms, and Acrobatics.
P/D for those more intimate encounters.
If you do go full Precision, IMHO, Acrobatics has a bit better survivability than Shadow Arts… YMMV.
Good Luck.
Hello!
I just wanted to make some small requests of my fellow players.
If you are from CD you probably think of me as the mad red pirate that toils endlessly alongside a dolyak in an endless quest to upgrade All The Things.
If you are from FA or TC you probably think of me as that squishy blue ranger toiling endlessly alongside a dolyak in a hopeless quest to upgrade All The Things you are just going to take anyway.
My fellow CD players, I would ask that if you should see me walking alone beside a slowly plodding dolyak, that you please toot your horn or otherwise put a speed burst on as you pass to assist my efforts. It is for the good of the server!
And ye nemesis of TC and FA, I ask that if you should see me toiling all alone with a dolyak, that you wave at me before you stake me to the ground.
Love,
Team Dolyak & Fluffyhooves (pictured below)
Can I sign up for your newsletter??? =D
Yes please. I’d love server specific sub-forums.
I run a short bow venom share build in WvW. Lots of tools for zerg offense and defense.
Mix and match traits as needed.
Nah Manoa. I ain’t showering or nuthin’
Brinin’ mah funk!
We have owned 95% of the map this week.
oO
Missed XP from a supply camp cap in WvW… came close to going off the side of a mountain, ran back as quick as I could and missed out by a second or two… meh.
Alright, guess I missed the peakittening. And yeah, if there were folks boasting… well that’s just silly Sure the “world record” would’ve been neat, but come on.
edit: fwiw i don’t have a problem with going for the world record, i’d hoped it’d bring more people in …
(edited by stinkypants.8419)
SF kinda had a lesson in humility this week…
How so? I think everyone knows we got lucky last week with our draw. The forums have sure been helpful in pointing that out.
I even started this thread questioning our ability to keep it up. We know how to zerg and ninja, but I rarely see siege getting thrown down. While organization is lacking, it’s getting better. I’m beginning to think it’s an economy thing with the siege for us.
I need to do more jumping puzzles.
Yeah… I don’t think we’re so hot at the long(er) term goals for map control yet, but we’re getting some trolling skills
Nice build brunohstein, I was doing something similar prior to SB build.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fYUQFAFmQ2e0TVIPppQmAgOFXlVB
I’m running this as a SB condition(y) build. It works pretty well… SB kite with Choking Gas and Cluster Bomb for a bit… final SB with Disabling Shot, then steal > CnD > backstab > LDB > HS. Mix that up from time to time but it works pretty well. I do need to manage initiative, but don’t we all. This build is great for WvW harassment too.
Though I just got a new sword… so I need to see how the S/D mix would work into that.
Also thinking about moving the 3 from DA into Trickery to get the synergy from First Strikes for the S/D mix.
All I can say is that I’m not surprised by the way things are going. SF just doesn’t have it together enough, and while we do try to compete, it does seem that any sustained organized effort on the part of a competitor knocks us on our heels.
That said, I am seeing better organization on our side. Despite the one-sided victory last week, it was good for the server to win… I think it brought a little more interest into WvW and hopefully that will be maintained.
Didn’t see a thread yet, so got one started… are we gonna keep it up SF?
Was kind of expecting to see Caltrops over Shadowstep in your build Stiv. I guess the condition removal outweighs the additional healing? (and yeah… neat build)
I have a Razer Naga and a G15 that I use. Almost all of my skills and things like dodge are all bound on my Naga, and are readily available to use easily, while keeping my movement free with WASD.
I’ve got the MMO version of the Razer Naga… it’s very nice, all the number keys are thumb accessible.
