Maybe DP then? I think the daze on Head Shot would count…
Going 30/0/30/0/10, full carrion with perplexity runes, soldier weapons and chryscoloa orbs.
Will likely be doing some occasional commanding with this as well. I don’t have the funds to regear, nor the time to grind for cash and prizes… but do have some laurels and badges to spend.
I’m having a hard time thinking celestial isn’t the best option, but maybe rabid+dire, or apothecary?
Would love some suggestions.
Thanks.
Seconding CD. We get some blobs on reset, and over the weekend, but there’s still plenty of room to roam.

Yes please! Increasing range on those would be incredibly helpful!
Did IS ever had speed boost passive? Not on my watch.
I think it had a speed boost in the beta.
Okay to summarize what’s going on above me. At least in the finished game, IS never gave a speed boost, only initiative regen and a shadowstep as well as a breakstun, Signet of Shadows however gives the 25% passive speed as well as a blind………… and an on demand fireblast for a range of 1500 whilst giving the activator 6 seconds of stealth and breaking stuns and replenishing health for 3,000 and proccing 25 stacks of might for 20 seconds.
dude. you forgot the ponies and rainbows!
How about a little from column A and a little from column B?
Crystal Desert has good zerg drivers and some roamers, but we’re lacking coverage. There are usually good fights to be found though.
I was on SF a while back, it is/was the unofficial ‘spanish speaking’ servers, so you might want to double check that if you want to go there.

Probably either need more damage on the gate or not hitting it long enough.
The whole movement should evade… and some more damage would be nice.
I like 0/20/30/20/0, allows you to move fast without equipping a signet or runes. With the right gear you can still get a good crit chance.
x/30/30/x/x is good for straight up damage, I didn’t have too much initiative problems with it, but then I run DD.
I’d go with the former for roaming, especially solo, just for the durability, but x/30/30/x/x is fotm build and it does have some nice bits. ymmv.
The solution, I would think would be to add the option to activate or deactivate minor traits, so that we have the option to turn off this abysmally bad designed trait.
Wait until all the patches are out.
Instead of reinventing the wheel why only follow commanders you know and don’t follow commanders you don’t.
And if it’s a new one, check it out, or roam.
Getting tired of these threads…
Nice. I have pretty much the same gear setup and have been wanting to try something different other than the DD build I’ve been running. Cool to see a PD that’s not all condition dumping.
Why should players who understand how the trait works and use it to their advantage be punished because other players don’t want to take the time to look at their HP bar during the fight?
I understand how it works, but it “rewards” you for being passive in a fight. I should be using my abilities, not waiting or expecting to get hit so that LR procs.
I’d say I’m about 70/30 on the getting killed/saved ratio with LR.

Good grief. Just login and go. Don’t try so hard, it’s just a game.
Yeah, I think overall combat speed slows down for everyone, but you’d still be faster with traveler runes than without.
Just some group build suggestions
15 in DA for weakness on poison application and SB4.
Shadow Protector in SA for quick rezs when using SR. You also gain the SP benefit when going into stealth.
Group builds:
Classic Venom Share with 30/x/30/x/x. I like the 10 in Acro, tho Trickery is good here too.
Venom/Boons – 20/0/30/0/20 – don’t have experience with this but looks neat.
Roaming – my fave is 0/20/30/20/0 – can go fast w/ swiftness on dodge and SB5 without having to equip signet or speed runes and has good survivability and damage.
Currently I’m runing 15/20/20/15/0 to pretty good effect with DD/SB.
I think PVT doesn’t get a lot of love because it’s not fancy and there aren’t builds built up around it. I have zerker weapons, and zerker orbs on everything and usually run some form of power/direct damage build.
It’s a versatile set that can be used with different trait set ups and has survivability built in. The best I’ve found with it 0/20/30/20/0 which is very forgiving and has good damage potential if you can stay in the fight.
With PVT I’ve run trickery builds, venom share, and currently running a jack of all trades/master of nothing 15/20/20/15/0 for wv3 and it works fine. Sure other armor may be better at other things, but if you’re hurting for funds and/or time get PVT first and figure out what you want and where to optimize and go from there.
Also those folks telling you get to get PVT in map chat in Wv3… they are actively playing and not forum warriors like us
1. Thief
2. Ranger
3. Warrior
Can’t go wrong with PVT in Wv3 IMHO.
Well said!

Not gonna plug a specific server, but given the blobs that occur I’d shoot for a stable T5 server, maybe T4. On CD we can do pretty much any Wv3 activity given certain time constraints… there are blobs if I want to k-train, I can roam solo or in a havoc group, and a decent amount of small group action.
If we pop into T4 next week I’m not sure what will happen, we’ve been out-zerged recently fighting the current T4 matchup servers.
I’m not sure what’s up with HoD and Ebay as they’ve put up good fights in the past.

Though I think this is fake, I just want to comment here and say…
nope.avi
On the off-hand chance that this is real.
kitten .
I imagine this won’t last long…
It is truly ridiculous that Traps are single target and have such a large cooldown. I’d be happy with a cooldown reduction or AoE effects… or both!
So what about me?
I almost only play Wv3… maybe 20 hours a week. I know what’s going on and I saved up for my tag so that I could use it when there aren’t other COs on, or when I’m needed.
I would be pretty annoyed if it got downgraded to a PvE only tag.
I know people have problems with it, but learn who your commanders are and don’t follow the bad ones.
And for dailies!
^ I don’t know if Bountiful Theft is better than Venomshare in terms of party support, but VS is not mutually exclusive with BT in any case. Shadow Arts does all the heavy lifting in VS, so you can run a 20/0/30/0/20 build as long as you’re getting some extra condition removal from another source.
How is this build geared and played? Seems interesting…
I spent all my laurels on zerker trinkets and all I got was this lousy t-shirt.
(edited by stinkypants.8419)
I think you’ll find things pretty much the same. There are more condition based thieves these days in Wv3 as that’s the Wv3 meta and because of the upcoming crit changes.
That said I think direct damage builds will still be viable
Maybe they should rename it to “Final Solution” ???
Yes! Noticed this last night as well!
PVT armor is fine for Wv3. I run D/D+SB with full zerker orbs, and trinkets… zerging, roaming, havoc and I do fine.
I would take the “crit nerfs” with a grain of salt, you’ll still want to down/stomp folks fast and direct damage is gonna be better for that IMHO.
Also for karma gear… my first set was the one with lyssa runes and think that it’s a decent first set if you’re low on other funds.
Lastly, you can do whatever you want, with whatever build you want… and you’re gonna get facerolled regardless of your gear and equipment when you first go out; so get some karma gear and futz with your build before you spend your hard earned gold on something.
Just a note that you can’t have two Ascended items of the same type as they are Unique. […] For your Dire+Rabid accessories and rings.
He’s not running dupes, FYI: rings and accessories are split between offensive and defensive infusions. Those are technically different items even though they have the same stats. I do the same thing with my accessories, i.e. I have Althea’s Ashes and Magister’s Field Journal.
Missed the infusions… kitten .

Neat build though, would love to see a Wv3 fight.
30/x/30/x/x
I like the extra 10 in Acrobatics some folks for for Trickery. I believe CS is generally avoided. YMMV.
In DA: Venomous Strength, Quick Venoms, and Residual Venom.
In SA: Shadow’s Embrace, Leeching Venoms and Venomous Aura if running Thieves Guild for the elite, otherwise BV for elite and and Shadow’s Rejuvenation. This can also vary if you’re running with a group or not. BV and Lyssa runs are good here.
For utilities I like Spider just because of the number of times it hits. Lots of folks use Devourer for the immobilize and that it can be stacked, I also like Skale better than Ice Drake. Often run Shadow Refuge as well, so just have 2 venoms, Spider and Devourer.
Again, do hope you’re roaming with a group. With a skilled 5 man havoc and 1 venom share with Devourer it’s comedy gold. Running solo like this is risky.
It’s the medium ascended chest piece.
Yup! +1

Why is there a fancy brass knuckle on her hat?
Any thoughts on this skill in Wv3? vs Mug? or Potent Poison? Assuming at least 15 in DA for weakness…
I’ve been trying SoM in Wv3. It feels week compared to Withdraw, I haven’t run HiS in a while but recall it being decent.
SoM’s passive and active healing could definitely use a boost IMHO. Remove the cooldown and allow the passive to work after activation would be a good first step.
IMHO venom builds are our support build. Are you planning on solo roaming or running with a group? It’s rare to see a venom roamer… I think maybe Wild Bill was the last?
If solo, I wouldn’t slot Skelk, and if running with a group, I’d slot Venemous Aura in SA. SB is also great for group play as a venom thief.
The venoms themselves provide a nice little heal when used. Skelk venom has a nice burst heal… however, the cooldown is waaaay too long.
The biggest complaint against venoms is that you have to trait 30/x/30/x/x to make use of them… and it kind of gimps you for doing anything else. It’s possible to get a functional DD build by realigning the traits, but you’re still kind of kitten.
That said, in a good group in Wv3, it can be a lot of fun… I run it from time to time and have had good experiences… and have been facerolled.

0/20/30/20/0 is a great scouting build. You have swiftness through dodge, combines with sB5 I can keep up with anybody. It’s malleable enough that you can run different weaponsets and still be effective. Using different armor/trinkets/etc also changes the flavor of this build, but it’s still great across the board.
Good luck.
I say give the thief a quarterstaff. B*!$& slapped with a broomstick! xD
ya know… a quarterstaff isn’t a bad idea. better than a 2h sword.
i’ve always like the idea of a sap as a weapon for thief, would be nice as a control weapon.
Yeah. I run PVT armor wither zerker everything else and roam as a thief.
WTF.
Apparently it was in the live stream today – https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/RIP-power-builds-in-roaming
30/0/30/10/0 is the classic venom share “support thief”. It does alright when in a group, but it’s not so hot on its own. You can adjust your traits and utilities to be a more “normal” kind of thief, but you’ll be a bit kitten. I’ve run this from time to time and had fun when rolling with a solid group, but have also found myself in bad bad situations with this too.
To those who say the thief is not good in a zerg… I humbly disagree.
As a thief in a zerg it’s very easy to cause havoc by being just to the side of your zerg, harass the opposing zerg on the side and pick off their ranged and low health. Daggerstorm… blast finishers on SB2. SR for ressing. Finishing enemies.
So yeah… run with the zerg, but when you engage… peel off and cause havoc.
As for the thief’s general role in Wv3, it’s typically small group or roaming. Flipping camps, taking paper towers, killing opposing roamers, and reporting in map chat if you see anything untoward.
