@OP – you still reading this thread? Whatcha thinkin’?
Remember one size doesn’t fit all and all these builds are dependent on your play style. I’m a brawler, so it’s PVT or go home. YMMV
Here’s what I’m running… just a little bit different, more mobility and a couple of other things.
stay in spvp….kinda the only spot u can use it. unless u get the rare 1 v 1 chnace in wvw. just my 2 c
It’s fine in Wv3, just IS in and out and get some crits on FS/LS, you’ll do fine.
PVT armor, berserker weapons and jewelery. Runes and sigils to tweak as needed.
edit – for Wv3 play for me anyway
+1 0/20/30/20/0 at least for Wv3. I run SB in the offhand.
Good stuff.
I’d say precision. once you hit 80 and once you get a good baseline power level through equipment.
I play a condition thief in sPvP and tPvP and have been told that I’d be prefered over any backstab thief on a team in a given day.
We also have viable s/d boon hate builds, s/p stun and teleport builds, and several variations of backstab builds. Recently I’ve even seen venomshare builds pop up for team support, and multiple bunker builds. I don’t know how you can say that thieves are the least versatile at all. We have more build variety than we’ve ever had and more than engineer and ranger combined, so please let me know how we “aren’t versatile”. You just have to play with builds and see what fits your playstyle.
Also Signet of Malice, that is all.
And this is all true for Wv3 as well.
ANet said they wanted the new rating system to be in play for a bit before they decided if it was working or not… I’m just curious how long that is.
Honestly, I don’t think the matches up we’ve had have been too bad, but given all the complaining I see I don’t know if that’s just me, or if the rest of CD feels that way as well.
Been looking forward to seeing EB! Good luck folks!
Post a build up here please – http://gw2buildcraft.com/
I have no idea what’s on in your screenshot.
How about some axes? chop chop chop
Not really, we’ve never been out of T1 except for 3 days when the game first started. We simply kill to many of the bad guys to be in another tier. I am looking for some ocx wvwers, who love to fight the good fight though. If you are one, send me a message.
Get out of our thread and use the recruitment sub-forum.
SBI on the warpath… and SoS just kickin’ back on their heels. Interesting couple hours out there just now.
Good times.
I ran D/D and P/D for a while and currently using S/D with SB in off and pretty much only do Wv3. I run the 0/20/30/20/0 build with PVT armor, Mesmer runes and Berserker Jewelery. It’s doing pretty well for me. Probably my favorite build so far.
If I run, I lost, but I will also follow and hassle. Reading these posts it seems like some folks feel this is dishonorable… but I’m a thief; I’m going to use the tools available to me and if fighting dirty and taking advantage of my abilities to engage/disengage at will is one of them, so be it.
Caveat Emptor.
I played a 21/8/22 rogue, atopped playing right before BC came out. While I find the mechanics different, the strategy is similar. Hit and run. I did mostly battlegrounds in WoW, and Wv3 in GW2 currently with a 0/20/30/20/0 S/D + SB build and find it more skirmishy…but still kind of hit and run.

Was thinking about something like this with Soldier’s and Doly runes… maybe SoM, mostly just for the lulz.
LOL that was hilarious. Especially the guardian comment. Me thinks Anet developers primarily play thief and guardian
Well they sure as kitten aren’t using shortbow as a thief anymore.
This can’t be for WV3…
These shortbow nerfs are getting redonkadonk.
Build – 19878
Error Code – 58:11:5:512
@Excalibur – I’ve seen you posting a lot that those notes are fake, but how do we know you’re not an ANet plant???
We need to go derper!
I ran a 30/0/30/10/0 build for a bit in Wv3 with my DA line set up the same way, and using the Venom Share on the SA line.
It was pretty good when I had a group, but it’s a bit lacking when solo.
You’d get these awesome moments when you could really push your line forward and the enemies back when the venoms were up.
That said, I found myself recycling my fights often… push > share > fallback for cooldowns.
And trying to do anything solo with this build is difficult unless you retrait, and then the build is lackluster for soloing.
I like the 30/0/30/10 if you have a good group to roll with, if you know to drop the venom share right before a charge in… when the commander yells STACK.
Regarding Might stacking… it never really seemed like enough, though it was noticeable when you had all of them up.
I think this describes how SoS and CD are feeling pretty well…

That’s funny cuz this is what I hear anytime TC says anything in this thread:
What I find interesting is that when we were in T4 we had one of the most balanced matchups of all the tiers for 2 weeks and all the other tiers were out of kilter. And we fought our kitten off for those 2 wins, winning by a hair, and the threads were very civilized. Now that we’re in T2, this is the most unbalanced of the tiers, and the other seems pretty balanced by comparison (T8, of course, is always jacked).
SoS steamrolled us when they were down in T4, and now we’re up against them and TC which is an even larger server than SoS and also where 3 of our Wv3 guilds absconded to.
So yeah, we’re gonna fight and stuff and things, but there’s something to think about regarding our efforts, or caring, or whatever.
Agreed and /signed.
This thread is depressing on so many levels. If CD ever “improves” to the level of TC where players have to do sentry duty, players must be on VoIP, players must run around in at least 15-20 man zerg balls dutifully following the commander, and players must all wear PVT gear with masses of AoE fields/finishers for their utilities… I will say that I will be one of the first to transfer off.
Let’s group and eat popsicles and watch Adventure Time and race go-carts because that would be fun.
/me gets popcorn
I didn’t say zergs melt… I said the front lines melt down…
/sheesh
… and then the 20 RE (plus a few map militia) that were stacked, waiting around the corner on the stairs, cut through them like water. In a matter of maybe 20 seconds they’d wiped that entire push.
That’s funny cause all I saw was TC hiding behind their AC range when they pushed out. Go figure.
Did you see our lowbie raid?
They didn’t melt, and attempted to fight. Honestly, I don’t pay attention. Red=Dead. I just want some bags.
Nice seeing AWE and KH out there. Thanks for the bags.
Stay out of Titan KH!
Stay out of Titan AWE!
Keep your ugly kittening gold-bricking kitten out of my beach community!
/lulz
I miss T4 threads.
Don’t listen to the haters. Venom sharing can be incredibly powerful in Wv3, but you absolutely have to be able to get the shares off. I’ve seen front lines melt down sharing venoms.
That said, it can be very situational. Sometimes I’ll run it if I know I’m going to be with a good group and we’ll mow down enemies, it’s almost funny. Other times you’re stuck with a 30 point trait that doesn’t do much for you.
Try it and see if you like it.
T3 – T5 servers IMHO.

Seriously Arenanet… can we get balanced matchups again? This isn’t fun for anyone.
I actually don’t mind. Balance leads to the same kind of gameplay over and over again. We busted our tails the past few weeks. I don’t mind a rolfstomp. We’re gonna learn some D over this matchup. If we’d gone the other way maybe it would’ve been us doing the rolfstomping.
No worries… I had a couple good field fights last night and ran into the TCZOMGZERGBALLZ last night too.
OK folks… I think you’ve made some good points. Here are my thoughts. Sure, sharing isn’t always gonna be great or the right choice for a given situation. There have been a number of times I’ve been solo and forgotten to switch off venom share and found myself in trouble.
However, fighting at the front of a zerg and sharing spider and ice drake venoms is a glorious thing, trait might on venom use, which gets shared as well. Front lines just melt.
I would say overall, definitely not a utilitarian as some other builds and obviously situational… but in the right situation it can be devastating.
1) a few random players within the aoe do, and your charges are expended at the rate of 1*number of players hit. It sucks.
2) same thing
Wait… why is this a bad thing? Seems legit to me…
@Lokheit
Well you’ve definitely given me stuff to think about. I also run Quick Venoms so 36s for me at the moment
I think I’ll stick with what I got for my group play, sharing might and heals is too good with the short cooldown even if there is a chance we all focus down the same player Wv3.
That said… I’m gonna try TG instead of BV when roaming and keep my VS build. Usually, I’d swap out a ton of skills and traits which was annoying.
Heh, hadn’t thought about TG vs BV. I’ve been using BV as my elite and Ice Drake along with Shadow Refuge. Don’t know if i could get used the cooldown on TG tho. I’ve been running with large groups in Wv3 lately and getting the aura on at least 3 other players.
It’s been so much fun to pop Spider and Ice Drake Venoms, spam 1, then Choking Gas/Cluster Bomb and then fall back or charge in with BV depending on the circumstance.
I’m using Giver weapons, Rata Sum runes, with a debility sigil on my SB and one on my dagger with a venom sigil on the other dagger.
The other thing I like about our venoms is that if even they get removed, they’re very easy to reapply.

Was just checking to see if it effected NPCs, like guards in Wv3. Didn’t know that the other traits effected as well. Didn’t realize I was hooking folks up with heals and Might too
And does Lotus Poison proc for thieves?
Let’s not make this a WvW vs PvE thing. The OP asked about the Ascended Carrion stat on WvW vendor, but the fact is, the stat doesn’t exist in the game at all for Ascended, including PvE.
True, but the thread title would indicate otherwise… and it IS frustrating that Wv3 players have to do fractals to get an ascended back piece.
Thanks for getting this all together wish, really nice list. I just switched to a venom share build for Wv3, but this stuff is making me rethink that
Here it is, just for kicks -
Definitely for group Wv3 play.
Can’t go wrong with Soldiers and slapping ruby orbs on all the things.
Oh , haven’t had that much fun in " Couple " of days in KN BL , because it’s all about fun in this match up. The fight at Bay and the long kitten fight in Longview , oh boy ..but there is that one time when the TS3 went silence and facepalming when we are at the longview tower that belongs to KN and we are fighting with KN and all that ..looking behind us and find out that there is about 10-15 YB looking at us and putting a ballista up while both of us fighting ..“facepalm” so we held but the catas went down YB went home and KN still inside their tower which they held it pretty well, fun times indeed.
clowns and jokers man, clowns and jokers…
Skill 2 is bad. The problem is that it is more aligned to a P/P set-up. So my suggestions:
—For skill 2- Remove vulnerability and instead apply poison for 3 seconds. This gives P/D players 2 conditions to work with and allows for some new build options (poison duration for example)
Oh my. 15 in DA you could stack up some weakness, so much sauce.
