IGN: Alvyn
Playstyle: WvW
Server: Crystal Desert
Experience with thief: I’ve been playing since shortly after release, almost entirely WvW. I often roll with larger groups, hanging out on the periphery looking for kills or daggerstorming the blobs. If not that, I’m looking for camps to flip, or roam in small groups.
Situationally awesome, but not that great otherwise.
traveler – p/d thief – roaming, havoc, and zerg busting.
cool story bro.
If I’m about to lose a fight… I run away.
A lot of players on certain servers (*cough Crystal Desert *cough) wouldn’t even fight back if you caught them, they would literally die without hitting you once.
You didn’t fight me buddy. I chased a zerg off a SMC wall just last night, all by myself, uphill, both ways and in the snow.
I ran 0/4/6/4/0 back when it was 0/20/30/20/0 with PVT armor and zerker everything else.
It’s not baaaad, you put out consistent decent (but not zomg!) damage and have very good survivability. It’s alright for hanging out with blobs and larger havoc squads, but you’ll ultimately end up running away from smaller fights (or need some help) because you’re not gonna be able to drop enough damage for the kill.
That said I do think it’s a good starter WvW build if you’re looking for survivability as it was very forgiving when I ran it with PVT armor.
Neat vid, always wondered how something like that would work.
I feel like Mesmer fulfills the role of this build better. Not that this has zero viability. This build doesn’t really fulfill the classic role of a thief because of the lack of mobility, so Mesmer seems like a better comparison, but this lacks AoE and the utility offered by Mesmer.
A thief was never suppose to have lots of AoE, and this is obviously a single target set up w/ DP and PP.
Best change would be if they boosted playerkills by 500% and decreased structure rewards with the same amount.
Fighting NPC’s shouldn’t be more rewarding then killing another player any day of the week. As it is now the focus is on NPC/Structure fights instead of finding the enemies to run em over.
So a new aim for WvW would be all about fighting players, not npc’s. Less fuss about imbalances 24/7.
YES YES YES.
Give more loot for player kills, base it off of their level, WXP rank, how long it’s been since they’ve last been killed.
#STOPTHEKTRAIN2014
sigil to crit on weaponswap would be op
The price should stay the same and the colors should be free.
It’s respectful to the WvW community to do what they are doing.
I’m beginning to think the A in Anet stands for Avaricious.
BLUETACO4LYFE!111!!!!1
It’s gotta be the shortbow.
Awesome ideas!
Anyone ever try the 4/0/6/0/4 trickery/venom share build for GvG?
SB + DD or DP I reckon. Gear as needed?
Just a note… if you put 4 in Acrobatics it’s possible to keep swiftness up enough and either use HS or IA to move about nearly as fast as SoS or Traveler Runes.
I kind of like them. Sure we shed some guilds, but we gained ones as well, and we’re still getting a small trickle in.
It’s actually kind of bringing our server together in some regards, seeing a lot more CO tags attempting to help. Guilds are organizing with each other, more communication between groups.
CD is silver league… dunno if that makes a difference.
Honestly…. venoms aren’t worth it in their current state. I’ve tried venoms many times, in different builds – 4/0/6/0/4 & 6/0/6/2/0 – they just don’t seem to hit hard enough and aren’t up when you need them due to the long cooldowns.
I will say this tho… you will occasionally pull off really amazing stuff. Mass immobilizes, huge group heals, etc… but you’re overall ability is taking a big hit.
If you really want to share stuff, going into Trickery and picking up Bountiful Theft and Thrill of the Crime are pretty nice. They give you and your team a nice buff and with the reduced Steal CD you have a pretty good uptime.
Currently I’m running 0/0/6/4/4/. Acrobatics lets the boons from trickery last a little longer and the extra vitality doesn’t hurt either.
If you want to be more damage oriented go 2/0/6/0/6
We had/have an upleveled Anet ranger running around on CD for a bit, joined a zerg and we had some lulz. Even grouped with me. I was honored.
This thread gets necro’d after 6 months… and a dev says it’s a tooltip error?

who cares? the only water map is removed.
There’s more to the game than PvP.
Probably P/D with 30 SA and either a heavy heap in CS or Trickery.
whoa. interesting… i have most of that gear lying around too. may give it a “shot”
hurrr…..
@Sir Vincent III
Would love to see your spec and attack rotation for a P/P build. Particularly from a WvW standpoint, but any will do.
Thanks.
A boon ripper trap would be neat….
Agreed! Especially now with all the changes!
Please do this!
I’m going to go 4/0/6/0/4 and swap between venom share and condition damage, as opposed to the 0/30/30/0/10 I was running before. Need to update my accessories though. This is for WvW.
Does the poison from the Krait runes proc Lotus Poison (weakness)?
I really wish DD went well with Acrobatics, that 10 Endurance return on the 2nd hit of D1 makes it seem like it would mesh together a little better but it doesn’t.
If you can squeeze 15 into Acrobatics you’re doing OK for some skirmish type fighting, but the damage potential with 30 SA just overwhelms it… at least for WvW.
roflmao!
just know that when you switch away from your SB you’ll lose the bloodlust stacks after the patch so all of those on kill sigils are pretty worthless to anyone who plans on switching weapons
That seems very very punitive for any class that can weapon swap and I doubt that would last if implemented.

One of our main wvw blob/zerg guilds left for HoD, and it wasn’t a pleasant goodbye. They are definitely into hitting our BL when they can.
If they are blobbing on the NSP BL as well, that probably just says more about their numbers.
I really, really, really, really am looking for a more even-footed fight against NSP to see what it’s like without HoD (KOME) all up in our BL.
whoa…
it’s a video game, not a rest home.
I’d throw some PVT in the mix for durability.
Sorry if I wasn’t clear, this would be a pin similar to the commander pin that can be bought for 100g.
So I’m doing the story mode last night… and Trahearne says to me I get to be a Commander!
But he’s promoting himself to Marshall…
kittensnacks!
This must come to WvW!
Requirements:
Minimum rank: Bronze Invader – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_Experience#World_ranks
Minimum WvW AP: 50 – http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_vs_World_
1000 Badges
The least I feel sure on is the WvW AP. I’m a plain old Legend rank and I’m not sure what my WvW AP is currently (can’t check atm).
This is just me spitballing here, so yeah… all we need to do now is pick what color. I’m thinking yellow…
Thoughts?
Would be interested to see this in action…
CD lost our blog guild to HoD (have fun with that btw), but we’ve gained a few single transfers and a few smaller guilds that are stepping up and showing some promise. We’re still looking for folks to come on over.

Looking for a new server? Why not Crystal Desert?

pvt armor, zerker everything else.
Looks nice.
Do you ever go venom share with this build?
I’m transferring to Crystal Desert because it costs 0 gems to go there!
Nice! You check out our forums yet?

I enjoy it immensely, oddly calm and tense at the same time. Out solo I can flip camps, harass groups (see escapability), and look for fights which can go either way.
Best is small group roaming though. The ability to go stealth while your teammates are fighting give you many windows to misdirect the enemy and cause general havoc. Stealth stomps too are great to prevent those revives.
Peace out KOME.
Come to Crystal Desert! We have Pie!
We’re close to bumping up a notch on the wvw front. If you have some game and want to make a difference check us out.
havoc, zerg busters, blob runners… bring it.
Because we have pie.

That not all commanders are created equal.
That commanding is hard.
That you should learn to roam solo.
Blobbing and karma trains are only fun for so long, but the best way to get loot in WvW.
5-20 person open field fights are the best.
Sieging is boring, but can be incredibly useful.
HAIL ERIS!
