You should go tell GF and others not to use 30 points in virtues. They probably don’t know how to play guardian yet.

Also, I think you’ll see a number of people running the +300 vit in WvW. With the boon duration nerf, I think you’ll see people switching over to rune of the soldier. So +300 vit and still keep the condi clears from the soldier rune.

^^ one of my thoughts when looking at things last night, as you said, came from a boon duration build =/ I’m still undecided, might just go with one of the 3 and take what I can get, might go soldier, /shrug ugh

Still don’t know if that 300 vit is needed/worth it though.

Pretty frustrated with that nerf, I’m still scratching my head wondering how they nerfed one of the few good non zerk builds for PVE in an update that was supposed to help non zerk builds in PVE….

I realize the stability was really nice in wvw, but OP, did an extra like 1-2s on stability really make it overpowered in a way that it needed a nerf? really? What it did do is allow a pretty solid duration if you were properly set up (close to 10s)

And just a side note, is there really something people call a meta in WvW? seems like there are so many good options and choices out there that calling any one thing the meta is just beyond silly. It makes sense when refering to damage as there will be a “best damage” but best for wvw? isn’t that far too subjective and situational to call anything a meta? /shrug

Yes, there’s a meta to WvW.

Like, there’s a fair bit you can say about what guardians in WvW. For example, you won’t expect to find a meditation berserker build in a guild 20+ size group but you could expect to find them in smaller groups of ~5 people.

Anyone remember Josh, last I recall he popped on to say hi as the new WvW community thingy?

Now as I watch this twitch video I see his title is “Champion Genius”…….. When did that happen, where was his farewell post to the WvW community that he has now moved on to the Genius part of the game? What is the Genius part of the game? What’s going on?!

Josh isn’t who Anet should be sending over, from his post history. And yeah, 2 months ago he posted that he wanted feedback on WvW, and there’s been pretty much nothing from him since on this subforum at least.

This is the sort of kitten I’m talking about.

1. ArenaNet says they’ll do something and then nothing. Not even a “Oops” or “Sorry”.

2. Why they haven’t hired anyone to engage us like that I don’t know. Has any ArenaNet player posted their WvW rank? It doesn’t reflect at all well on them. Largest WvW event ever in the near 2 year history of the game right now, involving thousands of players across the world, and no one from ArenaNet has said anything in the last 2 weeks about it on the WvW forums. It’s like it doesn’t exist.

I’m really starting to question why I am paying them to ignore me and others in the WvW community.

They’re not volunteers, they’re not doin this on the off time, I don’t care if they don’t care like doing it. It ought to be done.

We’ve complained about the service long enough. This is the thread where I’m letting ArenaNet know I’m dissatisfied with the inadequate engagement. Is this the only way this is gonna get fixed?

We’re into the largest WvW event but hey, apparently, there’s nothin for ArenaNet to engage us with on the WvW front. What has it been? One post from Devon Carter about megaservers and Allie telling us she’s quitting?

This is a problem and it needs fixing. I don’t expect it to be fixed overnight but I don’t think people should be expected to be quiet over it until it is fixed.

Or you know, people can start pullin up the pre-launch posts off Guru and talking to them next.

I don’t understand why there isn’t a schedule for season 2. It’s not something completely new, they provided a schedule for season 1 where you can see all the servers you’re facing.

It seems like they don’t care about season 2, it’s just an attempt to get people to WvW and not quit to some other game.

I do believe that’s because of the new swiss match up system, so they can’t give a schedule as each new match is based on how the last matches finished. (might be wrong never read how swiss match system worked)

Maybe in a zerg it matters how much self-healing you got and how well you sustain but in a small group fight you’re not going to be focused. If you’re fighting groups that put targets on enemies instead of a friendly commander, they’re going to burn down all your allies and save the guardian for last. At that point having a 2nd stability and more condition removal is better. Longer boon duration directly converts to more healing from regeneration on top of all the extra healing power (hold the line gets up over 3k). You retain still lots of CC and can actually tank too if you need to so you basically are boss at everything but DPS.

I find healway scales really well between different sizes of groups so if you have a team that needs to fill all sorts of roles, it’s fantastic. Though I’d say the small scale stuff is where it shines best.

Alright, I’m a paying customer. I bought the game and I’ve bought from the gem store (with gold as well as dollars). My last dollar purchase was 800 gems for the guild finisher. So recent enough. My point is I’m not someone who hasn’t played the game for 6 months and only comes to whine. I’m active, paying, engaged.

I will use the sPvP forums as an example but this isn’t about whining or being jealous. This is about illustrating what sort of service I am expecting and not getting.

It’s easy to bring up how many dev posts there are in sPvP front page (at all times) compared to WvW forums. It’s kittening shameful.

More specific example. This Friday a blog post was revealed for a sPvP feature. People had concerns and how fast were their concerns answered even before that blog post happened? There were even posts before even the blog post letting people know whether it will address their concerns.

That’s engagement and that’s service.

What’s it like on the WvW forums? No talk about what’s happenin with WXP account bound since February. No follow up discussion or whatever.

Instead people on the WvW forums are digging up threads from a thousand years ago (6+ months) about WXP account bound and other things (commander functionality!) because that’s all the dev talk there is.

It’s gotten really pathetic and sad here.

Look at this thread https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/wuv/wuv/Commander-Abilities/first! It’s 7 months old, wasn’t even 2 pages, but still got dug up and started a conversation about commander tags because Devon posted in it. That’s the state of engagement we have.

I get different people have different personalities. If Devon Carter isn’t big on posting, that’s fine, that’s not a fault.

What is a fault is that you haven’t gone and hired someone to start posting in here instead. Hire someone already!

I know it’s not super exciting sayin “We’re workin on that but can’t reveal anything” or “We’re not working on that but we can consider it” but it beats this mess.

Besides, there are things to talk about. We had a whole huge thread about transfer fees and population balance. Where’s the follow up on that? Did this create different trajectories of transfer before or after? What are commander tags doin? Are more WXP abilities coming? Do you think people get through gates too fast? Are you looking at lifting the AoE cap or is it still off the books (just keep telling us the state of these things, the game is ongoing and new people want to know!).

Failing is enough punishment for failing. You lose time, you don’t get the thing you were trying for. You don’t need to associate a cost to it.

And what is wrong with the word casual? Like we can’t be casual in a game we bought for our off time? Whenever someone trots out the word hardcore I just always imagine some PvE WoW nub goin on about how good he is at gear grind. It don’t mean anything.

When someone’s shootin hoops in their driveway and they miss, do we ask them to take $5 out of their wallet and burn it? It’s nonsense, get over it.

Not many things in this world cost only ‘time’ anymore if you fail. Very few things do.

Nothing is wrong with the word casual itself, but the gap between what separates players in such categories. Most of them are what I’d borderline being ‘noob’. However its not even the proper term since most know better, just choose not to. I could also use lazy too if that suits it.
These are people who prefer no risk for their reward. The path of least resistance.

It’s amazing how much that gap has changed in the first two years of this game. You could practically never leave Queensdale and still manage to obtain everything you could ever need.

If the person shooting the baskets never learns to actually learn to control the ball rather than dumbly throwing it against the board hoping it will sink into the net, nothing is ever going to change. Nor should he be falsely rewarded for no effort.

I’m not going to give you $5 for playing crap b-ball.

I think I’d rather playing the game should be its own reward.

Someone playing badly is going to get killed in the game and have to repeat content (PvE) or just get farmed (WvW). That’s already a drawback.

Right now safe things like champ farms, world bosses, zerging around in WvW aren’t even the skill testing exercises and they all pay really well. Hard content that will test and build skill is the content that kills you. If it’s not killing you, it’s routine. So what I think is that repair costs reward people for being bad because it punishes people for pushing themselves to get better.

Edit: For me, what’s been one of the most painful things to see in Guild Wars 2 is guildies who wanna do WvW do PvE so they can afford to do WvW later on (not just repair costs but ascended gear or whatever else expensive things you need). Alleviating repair costs will help WvW (and that’s the angle I know)

Fascinating…. so WvW really has no opportunity cost anymore for the average zerg player, since the Waypoints are free. I always thought in open world it was a little odd you had to die, pay waypoint, and then pay repair.

Unforunately this take all the risk out of dungeons. Also the effect on the economy…

Taking away the risk of spending 11 silver at worst? Wow, that’s so game breaking.
The only people that was punished by that was the new and inexperienced players, as written in the blog post

Repair costs were punishing the small groups ‘cause they’d be the ones to lose. Removing repair costs helps WvW and reducing gold from champs hurts champ trains. I’m okay with those two things.

If you lose a fight in WvW, the down side is you lost the fight. I don’t believe that people are going to try to stop winning just because there isn’t a gold cost for losing.

Pretty sure they don’t categorize things like that. I sort of feel like we on the forums like to categorize things like that so that we can claim we’re in the wrong category and why won’t anyone understand what a special snowflake we are?

WvW is a game mode that is player versus player but where there are either 2 or 3 sides in battle with any one side scaling from 1 to a ton. With enough people, the servers lag and people can’t activate more than their autoattack. The servers also can’t handle more than 5 DPS calculations per player so while there can be near 200 players in an engagement, any one of them can only interact with 5 allies and 5 bad guys. There are 4.5 maps, the matches are 24 hours for 7 days. People can move from team to team as often as they like. Balance accordingly.

I don’t think it’s end of the world but I don’t see a reason to placate the lowest common denominator either. Perhaps you don’t mind being told how to play because you can’t handle the stress of making gearing choices but if that’s the case, the change won’t incentive you to stack runes anyways.

This isn’t the same as bugged PoV. It’s a change that assumes we are all idiots because runes are so complex and we need Big Daddy Anet to hold our hand and tell us what to do.

Think you’re stretching. It’s probably just cleaner game design. There’s a certain flavour to putting 6 alike runes together for greater synergy as opposed to what do monks, water, and travelers have in common?

The only one that sounds remotely interesting is Communal Defense.

It depends on how fast the Aegis effect is added to your allies. Does it reapply fast enough that Shelter would become essentially 3 seconds of immunity for your party if you are blocking something like a 100b or flamethrower?

Still, it competes with AH and MF…

Communal defense has 20 second cooldown.

Only thing that strikes me as worth talking about is the nerf to vigorous precision.

Utter trash.

Raw hp is meaningless, especially after already putting 30 points into Honour and already having +3000 hp.

Real survivability comes from healing, condition removal, protection and dodging.

you already have those atributes on guardian, well sort off, all i imagine this +health is like a HP buffer, this is like one of the known updates we know they might have other new traits at realease.

I imagine alot of guardians that use 30 pts on honor will have it.

The only Guardians who invest into Honor and need a HP buffer are the ones who run PVT gear in a zerg spamming #1 on their Staff while taking damage from a thousand things they don’t need to while hoping they will live through the time it takes their zerg to throw up a new water field so they can get full healed again.

The only reason this trait would ever be useful is if you are somehow CC’d from 14,000 Health to 0 so you can’t use your two dodge rolls that will heal you for that oh-so-coveted 3,000 HP, at which point you are not running SYG! and would die from being a bad player regardless.

Actually, I was picturing immobilize for those 14k hps. Removing half a dozen conditions and still being stuck in immobilize is the best.

Playing a guardian is months of watching 7 other classes get new toys .

Come on, it’s not that hard. There’s lots to do. At first glance, spirit weapons aren’t even skills. There are no condition builds. Guardian mobility is garbage and half of it dependent on having rabbits around. Address these issues.

Guardian builds have barely budged since launch. Warriors got even a brand spanking new trait for having trouble dealing with boons. What the hell?

I don’t think the 25% speed bonus would be much good if you have an organized zerg blasting static fields.

Retreat doesn’t really do anything. You can probably find a consecration that has a bigger impact than a small self-heal every 50 seconds.

BTW, anyone says 3k hp is nothing clearly never fight a good thief 1 on 1 in WvW, or even play WvW enough…

Clearly 3k hit points is better than pure of voice in a 1v1 against a non-condition build. I think most of the time conditions are present in a fight in WvW.

I’ve seen some people excited about it. Some people have asked for more hit points and now it’s an option. Not every builds needs to be a shout.

That and we don’t want the 40 traits to be all auto-includes in everyone’s builds. I’m alright if it’s not the best trait (though one of the 6 should definitely be more awesome than this =).

The feature patch isn’t this patch, this is what they’ve been calling the maintenance patch. I don’t know if anyone knows for sure when the big feature patch is supposed to be but it should be within a month so I expect to hear about it soon.

Those of us who were paying attention knew that today was maintenance. What we didn’t expect was Season 2 launching ASAP so that next Tuesday is the only window left to get the features patch out or we’re looking at a locked and static environment until the very end of May.

I don’t think I’m alone in not being real interested in playing a game that frozen in its current state for another two months…

I would be very disappointed if the feature patch came end of May.

How do you make lots of gold in WvW?

I only do WvW. I really cant stand champ training for gold. I cant run dungeons or fractals either because everyone just kicks you if its your first time. I have three 80s and dont even have full exotics because I cant afford it. I at least try and do meta events once a day for a chest but it never has anything good. How do people afford food and utility buffs as well as siege plans or the 100g for commander tag? I want to at least get one of my characters a legendary but I have 1 gold 37 silver. I will not PvE for my gold because I just dont find it fun at all and whats the point of playing if you arent enjoying what you do? Hell I can hardly stomach leveling new characters.

So how do WvW people get enough gold to make legendary weapons? I see people who mostly WvW with legendaries all the time so I assume you can get them from only doing WvW. At what point will you start earning enough gold to cover consumables and also put towards a legendary? Once you get into higher ranks do rank up chests start giving better rewards?

Uhh, you should easily earn more than 1 gold doin WvW every day. You don’t have to do meta events. If you buy the 2nd best consumables and avoid upgrading, you shouldn’t be goin broke. The rest of it is time.

To get to a legendary probably doin some PvE will speed up things a lot.

because they are based on your performance in WvW? I mean if they were good wouldnt they be higher than tier 8?

It’s not based on performance, it’s based on population. I mean, if they had more numbers, wouldn’t they be higher than tier 8?

The rankings are going to be a lot less accurate after the transfer fee change. I’m not going to lose sleep over how the leagues are grouped – the best case scenario for balanced match ups by ranking is to make 8 leagues and from week to week we see that isn’t even ideal.

There’ll be blow outs, balanced match ups, and life’ll go on. Just gotta roll with it. Every server has match ups they can’t win.

In sPvP you don’t earn XP so you need the tomes to level a character but in Living Story you earn XP and tomes so what the hell?

Maybe. Some people are capable of it though I definitely am not.

The high armor “requirement” is mostly in the context of zergs due to the high number of incoming damage (and lag too!) requiring a buffer. I would say some buffer (thieves…) is preferred to avoid getting instagibbed, but in smaller groups and especially solo you need damage more. In zergs it’s ok if you hit like a wet noodle because you have many other wet noodles hitting. In a group of 50, you’re only responsible for 2% of the damage if everyone did the same. In group of 5, it’s 20%. Solo well, it’s 100%

This game isn’t balanced around 1v1 though. Some would argue not at all, but it seems optimized for groups of 5 in general.

On a side note, I actually think the meta dungeon speedrunners would actually be more proficient solo/small group (5~) wvw than most of the wvw zerglings due to reliance on “actively try to defend, via virtues, blocks, blinds etc” that you brought up. It’s pretty ironic given the scoffing most wvw’ers have for pve.

If I get hit for a lot of damage having more that 3k armor, and hit just a bit more, when I have lot less, well, it’s clear to go all out on attack and at least try to outsmart your opponent. Know when to dodge, what to block, when to blind, etc.

Guess, maybe the point of the game is not to relly on passive defense, but on active. Example, gear/weapons all on attack, traits most, then take some defensive utilities. Maybe as a guardian. I’m not sure.

Some are saying 2700-2800 armor is a sweetspot, getting more is a waste. But, why even get that if I still get hit by a warior for a lot. Compare that with a small health pool, almost each auto attack can take 5-7% of our health pool. Each auto. So, a chain would take at least 20%.

I’m kinda lost.

Like I said before in my last post, it’s about having the proper buffer. In large scale fights you cannot actively mitigate everything that happens to come your way thus passive defense is needed.

Passive defense and active defense aren’t mutually exclusive. They make each other more effective since you can’t trivially negate all of someone’s attacks if they have half a brain. And also, thieves…

And fights aren’t about just dealing with people’s autoattacks. You may dodge some, you may get hit, and you will heal. So lasting longer does matter. And there’s also burst damage that may just outright finish you off if you have no buffer.

In any case, going all out dps is certainly possible though it’s not as black and white and not to mention that 1v1 scenarios seem to be the exception rather than the norm in wvw.

As I said in the other linked thread, it’s not about conforming to some arbitrary armor value at all times though it’d be much suggested in zergs. Rather, try to maximize your damage without immediately falling flat. This is something you’ll have to find out on your own, most of what you search for on this matter is strictly anecdotal.

The point I wanted to make was, even with 3k+ armor, I was still getting hit for a lot of damage. Lets say, with 3k+ armor, and some buffs, I have 17k HP. If a warior does a full chain on his auto (1.4k,. 1.6k, 2.5k), thats 5,5k – that’s something like 30% (almost) of my HP. With 1 chain. With 3k+ amor.

Now, I know some attacks you’ll dodge, some you’ll block, move away, etc. All that stands. But, considering I geared myself to have 3k armor, would it be better to lose some, and in return do more damage. Maybe if I have 2.5k armor, the difference in mitigation (flat one) will not be so big, but in return I could have some higher offensive stats.

That makes sense?

I know WvW is not balance around 1v1, that’s not the point. I know in zerg, a lot of players (frontline) will be PVT and such, and wont hit as much, but still, I would like to know, if getting armor is really that important. No sure anymore. I heard a soft cap could be 2.6-2.8k and we should aim for that, and the rest go all damage.

So if he’s got 3000 attack and you had 2700 armour, he’d be doing 111% of the damage he does to you at 3000 armour.

That’s your call whether you think it matters. You want a build that balances your damage with armour (other priorities, like how much support you provide come into that too) and you generally want to find some sustain (other than your heal skill) to keep you going. Meditation heals, dodge heals, regeneration and protection boons all can play a role in that.

My point is it shouldn’t be just up to your armour rating to get you through a fight.

The whole point of this was simply to point out that gold costs do factor into people’s decision to transfer. I don’t expect making it free to fix everything or anything, I do believe it will alleviate some of the growing server population inequality. I could be wrong, wouldn’t be the first time. Just my 2 cents.
