its been about 3 weeks including this one, GoM was going strong but a lot of ppl leaving for whatrever server really hurt it seems. Its a shame because BP was just pitiful, they seemed to be really unorganized and only managed to pull ahead because of number where as GoM seemed to have some pretty competent players that had no issues wiping larger numbers. Unfortunately those guilds can’t be on 24/7.
Attitudes like that keep us from improving. You gotta have respect for who you are fighting and humility about what you are doing. I’ve seen BP and AR do things better than us for sure (haven’t had the chance to go to ET borderland and don’t hang out in EB so I can’t say I’ve encountered ET at all).
I dunno, I don’t think Gates of Madness came behind Anvil Rock once until last week and this week they are whooping us good. I will wait and see and do my best =)
Next tier 7 match will be interesting with what I guess will be Gates, Henge, and ET. All three servers have fallen from the top tiers (though Gates did it before it became cool). I wonder how the populations will look.
So is ET actually pushing AR back and GoM is not? Or did AR decide to go “easy” on ET.
I would like to point out a few things about Anvil Rock ( and I’m sure this applies to just about every server)
There are essentially two Wv3 groups.
The organized Wv3 alliance, comprised of guilds commanders and forum posters here who all coordinate and work (try to at least) together .
Then there are the puggers , fair weather Wv3 crowd and weekend players.
From day one the organized Wv3 AR players have made an effort to leave ET alone. I even posted a screenshot on Sat. morning of how ET had held their borderlands overnight.
The massive take over of the map we all saw this weekend was mostly the work of the the second group, puggers and weekend players.
AR isn’t so much going easy on them, more so than we just aren’t doing anything organized to stop them from taking back their BLs. Hopefully this makes for a much more interesting week for everyone involved.

Here is the thing, we have a Queue in GoM BL and we can’t take our garrison back. If you keep ignoring blue, we will have to chose if 1) we are ok with third place or 2) we will kill blue just so they cant get any points.
I don’t like either of these options…
It turns out fighting a fully upgraded garrison with Anvil Rock having no less than 3 commanders leading the defense is kind of tough. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear they had a queue too.
If it makes you feel better, we did take it.
Out of our way, kittenes, we are doing this.
Love it, I’ve been lookin to do more network between the folks I regularly see in WvW.
I noticed GoM had a Anet guy running with their zerg tonight at SM….
Might be the same one we were hanging with yesterday in our borderland. Pretty friendly guy!
Might be alright that not every class can cover the walls with crazy AoE. Keeps the walls clear of too many crazy AoEs.
Not referring to you but this is the kind of logic that gets mesmers nerfed to be honest. “Man mesmer can do so much more than me, if i can’t do it mesmers shouldnt be able to do it either” But it’s funny how it doesn’t work in reverse.
Since I only play mesmer, I can’t speak to “mesmers can do so much more than me”. Mostly I was thinking about how I, as a mesmer, have to stand on the edge of a wall and shoot down at people and how it would suck if everyone could lay down AoEs that covered the entire wall. Right now if arrow carts are back enough, only like elementalists or rangers or whatever few folk can reach them and so you get enough shots back.
I don’t know if this is the way it should be but it’s just somethin that popped in my head and I wrote it down. I don’t think mesmers need more nerfing =( and some interaction with the walls more than a focus 4 (which is useless against something like a treb up on Hills) would be somethin I would appreciate.
@Kirrund
Others do it too brother, and it is just that much easier on a Thief. I have 4 80s; Ranger, Warrior, Guardian, and a Thief. When I get on my Thief, it is a world of difference, and I can enter into a massive fight, and come out with 30-50 badges of honor.
It seems the second I steatlh, no one can see me for minutes from that point on, I just wade through, and pick my kills. Every now and then throwing one Cloak and Dagger if I start to take damage.
I can not do that on any of my other toons, because they can be targeted. This game has some of the worst rendering I’ve seen in any PvP game, second only to Aion, which oddly enough was created by the same people.
I have an extremely fast computer, and even I’ve seen issues where the opposing zerg did not show up on my screen until I was in thier midst. I waded in thinking I saw only a couple groups, and found out there were probably 50 there. On my other toons, they die in this situation, but on my Thief, I stealth, and get a lot of badges.
Aion and Guild Wars are not developed by the same people (just same publisher). Culling is client side and is completely unrelated to how good your computer is.
so, epic lulz from cliffside.
i saw some BP’s trying to take the wall down(twice, failed first time, so they went back to the same spot) so i remembered that temporal curtain can pull backwards. the entire bp squad was near the edge and you can guess what happened.
Good fight Bp. (i was the mesmer that just ruined your afternoon)
was pretty cute how you brought 3x the numbers when you came back the third time though! (that isn’t learning from your mistake that’s zerging, you could’ve just y’know…put the pult out of my range)
I’m not sure your condescending attitude and gloating reflects well on our server. Are you going to make a post on the forums every time you get a kill?
(edited by styx.7294)
Might be alright that not every class can cover the walls with crazy AoE. Keeps the walls clear of too many crazy AoEs.
When it comes to attack walls, I just don’t and watch for people trying to get in or maybe get on the siege. I guess someone has to do it.
Glass cannon builds are viable on classes like thief that have mechanics to support that. You should be looking for WvW builds on the class forums.
What food are you running, and what build are you using on your Mesmer?
Unfortunately I’m too lazy to actually have her set in stone just yet but getting to 80 I somehow fell in love with greatsword/staff and shattering/conditions. I’m very lazy in the food department, don’t really have an optimal food yet for nearly any of my 80’s!
Sorry this is about the lamest answer you could’ve received for the question! :P
As a mesmer you can use the excuse that “food buffs will tell people who the clone isn’t”.
Which type of gear you need depends on your build.
Exotic gear comes with three stats on it; one higher and two lower stats. You can find the list of combinations here: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Berserker#Triple_attribute
Also on that page it will let you know where the prefix you want can be found (either from dungeon tokens, item crafting, the temples in Orr, WvW trainer, or maybe mystic forge).
Class guides in the respective class forums should specify what sort of equipment, runes, and gems to look for to get you started.
Heeey!
Special Shout out to the D/D Elementalist from BP that prolly use the hybrid build from the NOM guild. I think your char is a female human and you have the title of berry eater or don’t remember what. You are a pain in the kitten to fight and it was a pleasure.
This elementalist! My guild knows this elementalist well. Pain in the kitten
Probably. I have more love for the simple ballista than any other siege weapon.
Had alot of fun in GOM BL last night. We had about 20-25 holding out at greenvale and GOM had at least 30-40 players fighting from bay to front of vale keep. NJ with the 4 trebs? from bay taking our seige out. That was well played. Best part of the night tho was when you guys built balistas and catas by the sentry point and we portal bombed you guys with half the numbers and wiped your group. Half your zerg was so busy trying to push into vale camp they didnt even know 15 were behind killing every1. We managed to portal bomb you guys two times before you eventually over ran us but it was alot of fun. It was good to see a great showing for GOM last night and im sure it felt good to finally out number BP even if it’s only for one night still shows you guys dont give up
I think we had 3.. or maybe 4. The call was to build 2 but then other people got excited. I was the dead mesmer by the ramp calling targets on you guys, so I didn’t see your portal action. From having Bay trebs destroy our ballistas in the Vale camp on Borlis borderlands, we knew that’s how to deal with that nonsense, haha.
The whole thing felt like bizarro world. When you guys were making a stand with ballistas in the northern supply camp, I was just about convinced this was some weird dream.
Well, I hope Borlis and Anvil had a harder time in Gates’ Borderlands today.
Edit: Actually, nevermind.

I don’t understand the hatred towards our server other than were winning consistently. Maybe it’s a few people giving us a bad reputation via the forums?
¯\(°_o)/¯
My guild is on your borderlands every night Borlis is in the lead since we got this bracket and we got nothin but love for you guys. You guys put up good fights and we try hard to put up good fights too. Whoever comes to WvW to hate other people ain’t doing it right.
Kalkz, I can’t believe you made a thread about the laziest and stupidest theories people come up with in every match up. Even your answers are lazy. I think your like to hear yourself talk and being the centre of attention.
This is so ridiculous I’m actually going to waste time on my favourite parts.
“GoM players are active most of the time, but there are no commanders, no commanders at all.”
-How did we get in this ridiculous situation where a commander leaves a server and then tells that server it has no commander? I don’t know much about leadership but I’m not convinced you know much about it either.
“first of all, i’ve been leading GoM since the Yak’s bend disaster, about a month ago ? and now im one of the many commanders in BP which puts me in the right position to make this thread because i spent a good times in both servers.”
-You’ve been on Borlis Pass, what, 2 days? I know, I was in Eternal Battleground when you showed up to tell everyone that didn’t ask or didn’t care that you were going to leave the server. Look, it’s your business where you wanna play. Stop making it everyone’s business that you’re leaving.
Honestly, I’m getting the vibe that you just like being the centre of attention and that’s all this thread is about.
Because this reply and even the original post is completely without worth, I expect neither will last long. I’m embarrassed on behalf of our server for this nonsense.
This matchup has been fun like the others, but unfortunately the current state of GoM has really ended a big portion of the entertainment value for us. While all the talk about servers doing better by refining their tactics might have some truth to it, the scores are without a doubt due to current server populations.
It’s sad, but GoM has really become a ghost server, and the few people that are left figure that fractals and such are much less a waste of time than wuvwuv.
We at NEWL have been native GoMians since launch thus far, but unfortunately we’re seriously considering a transfer :<
But you guys are like our BPBB (Borlis Pass Borderland Bros).
I understand how you feel though.
NEWL guys are cool guys.
Use the karma, if u do enough wvw you’ll get way more karma than u can spend anyways. I’m sitting at 1.2k karma at and nothing to do with it.
Do you mean 1.2 million? Because 1200 karma doesn’t seem super impressive =)
I also love at Redlake, while outmanned, we’re taking down the wall with one Catapult, and GoM builds Ballistas, and Catapults to our west, to take out our siege, and now we’re sandwiched between both servers, siege on two fronts, and outmanned.
Oh, were you on Borlis Pass Borderlands yesterday evening? =)
We had a good time.
Not sure about you guys but we’ve been having fun all night on BP. We gave up AR Overlook to GoM, then watched the fight that kept AR busy while we took everything they had. We literally took Mendons while we could see you fighting, and no one even came. Feels like there is more bad blood between GoM and AR than BP
Scores as of right now for anyone interested
BP 214,509
AR 187,840
GM 169,425Btw, we’ve had the outmanned buff for quite a bit this morning. No one seems to be on here from BP complaining about it though. Hopefully we can keep it like that.
I think the places you are describing are on Eternal Battleground rather than Borlis Pass Borderlands. On Borlis Borderlands we tried to mostly kill Borlis (since Borlis is first place) but if we could kill Anvil, that was kind alright too. Definitely we got killed by both.

Those scores look pretty good actually, though it’s hard to say.
Hey guys let’s not fight over pride, let’s keep the mods happy.
I don’t think anyone’s fighting. I feel like we’re more just sharin how we look at things in WvW.
@jkc
You do get rewarded for scoring more kills on your characters than others in equivalent situations. That’s fine.
The siege I think fulfills the role of helping people defend and take castles. Makes it more than just the same thing as fighting in a field ‘cept now with a wall. The situations where your mesmer can use siege are limited and your thief/warrior/guardian can do all that too + score more kills when siege isn’t relevant.
Further, I think siege is good because it creates a minimum significant contribution that anyone can give to the battle (assuming proper planning and investment of resources). Your mesmer doesn’t perform over your thief/warrior/guardian because they have the same ability to use siege (and won’t as easily be ninja’ed while they’re on it).
I’m not extremely good at anything (let alone video games), I just do my best and expect the best of other people too (though I resent and avoid situations that are completely one sided. There should always be a level of interaction possible – I mean, we’re all here to interact with each other, right?). I do /wave people through jump puzzles sometimes but not all the time. I’m honest enough to stick to a /wave though.
I don’t understand. I’m getting the impression you believe I’m saying; “remove siege”, when that is far, far……. FAR from what I’m saying. I’m saying the rewards should not be as beneficial, as actually fighting, using your own skills, and killing other players.
If you know how to place siege, there is zero risk, none, ziltch, nada. I have four 80s, so don’t think I’m looking at this from some unreal situation either, and have been here since pre-release, leveling every toon in WvW, only cleearing lowbie zones for extra skill points.
I’ve fallen back to use siege when I want Badges of Honor, because it is too easy to get them on siege, versus fighting for them in a riskier fashion. I just think it is silly is all.
I just think they should increase the drop of Badges of Honor when you score kills with your toon. I’ve had solo, one vs one kills that dropped zero Badges of Honor. They need to rework their reward system.
What I meant is that siege should be super effective at their niche, which I feel they are. And when you’re super effective at killing people you should get that super amount of bags.
Since I earn more badges than I spend, I don’t think about them but I can’t say I’m in love with it. If they replaced it with something else I wouldn’t be sad. If they introduce a gear grind above and beyond ascended gear I may cry though. Ascended gear already grinds my gears just thinkin about it.
I don’t think gear is a super big problem right now but I would prefer this. Make the fights more about skill and would let us be more free to try new builds as well.

@jkc
I’ve done the jumping puzzles dozens of times (though Obsidian only a handful). and haven’t seen anything that extreme. Between stealth, siege, portals, stuns, blocks, and knockdowns, they probably should have been able to stop one mesmer. Each class has tools and 15 people combine for a lot.
Obsidian Sanctum was designed with traps that not only kill opponents but allies as well. It’s a very silly place. Killing people in that puzzle is what the puzzle is about. Tackling doesn’t make sense in a soccer game but it’s what football is about.
Edit: About the siege equipment. Siege equipment does cost stuff and (with one exception) can’t be moved. It’s supposed to be more effective than a player at its niche and I think it makes sense that it rewards you when you’re being extra effective.
(edited by styx.7294)
It’s not griefing. If you’re on a map designed for player versus player combat then you will most likely encounter player versus player combat. It doesn’t matter if you’re walking, swimming, jumping, AFK, the people on the other sides came to these maps specifically in order to kill people who are your colour and that’s probably what they will do. There isn’t really any ambiguity about what you are to expect to happen.
Lots of PvE jumping puzzles are filled with traps and monsters and heights that will kill you. This isn’t different.
One commander for every guild? That seems like a lot of commanders.
Mesmer utilities and mechanics are usually good enough to keep you from getting hit. I’ve found the mesmer can get away with glassy cannon equips ’cause you make it up with all the defensive skills. Sorta like thieves, I guess.
GoM players have been too stupid to take a back path out of spawn, they wanna fight you right out front. Gaaahhh. xD
Nsid, this is the heart of the problem and the only issue. Our performance is our responsibility. It’s not bad that they built a treb and shot it at one of our locations, it’s just bad how sometimes we handle it.
I don’t get the zerg talk either. There’s different jobs in WvW and they can call for different sizes of groups.
None of the servers have enough people to fight all 4 maps at once. While I’m outnumbered on one map, someone else is running into large groups of Gates of Madness on another map. Points are consistently close so all I can say is that the populations of people who do WvW isn’t entirely out of whack (even if sometimes it’s just every server has 20 people on their own borderlands fighting doors).
Where is that map from?
Considerin that Eadren said “let’s go GoM”, I’m gonna guess he’s Gates of Madness.
Also, let’s go Gates of Madness!
There’s lots of games where you can grind for better stats (since apparently that’s the thing that matters to you?) – feel free to enjoy those. Guild Wars was a game where there was only the tiniest power creep and it only happened with the expansions. I thought Guild Wars 2 could be that sort of game too.
This isn’t like legendaries, which were like obsidian armour. They’re things you can work towards but they’re not things that will make you better than anyone else. There shouldn’t be “better gear”. There should be “better players” and “gear”.
“Gear is moving forward, if you don’t want to no one is forcing you.”
Edit: Gear isn’t moving forward. It shouldn’t be. It’s a terrible idea and it’s completely unnatural and why did you ever let yourself to be fooled otherwise is beyond me. Acquiring gear because it has higher numbers is a terrible game and it’s not what I paid $60 for.
Some people want their equipment best so that they can then enjoy the game at their best but why they have to waste their time acquiring that equipment over and over and over again is a completely unrelated waste of time.
(edited by styx.7294)
“We have always worked hard to create a sense of satisfying progression rather than gear grind and this new item progression initiative is no exception.”
But you just did this! You made gear grind. You just introduced items that have better stats and only three months in!
“we feel it’s important to strive to satisfy the basic needs of our players sooner rather than later.”
I feel like you’ve listened to the wrong feedback. I dunno, I hope this thread (and others like it) are heard too and we don’t get any more gear grind beyond this. I dunno, it’s really hard to put into words how disappointed I am. I was sort of expecting it to be like Guild Wars. Not after three months you introduce a higher tier of stats. This is not what I wanted at all.
It is silly but I feel a lil’ betrayed. =( I’m sure there’ll be some perspective a month from now or later on it but gosh, this is not at all what I thought this game was about. I thought we were gonna put our boot down and tell people “progression isn’t higher numbers”.
Wow, was anyone here at Eternal Battleground, at that supply camp by Ogrewatch maybe like an hour or two ago? 10 pm Eastern? ’cause that was -crazy-. Wow.
Plok, he’s clearly talking about other matches that haven’t involved you guys so you’re not really in a position to judge whether it’s accurate. Gates of Madness has fallen a lot of ranks and lost a lot of guilds so telling you that we’ve often been outmanned shouldn’t blow your mind. =)
I can’t speak to who puts out more people, I travel with a group of 7-10 and we avoid the zergs of all 3 servers usually. So the way I count group sizes is “we can take them easy” (1-10), “this is gonna be rough” (10-20), “Sweet Jesus, there is no end to them” (20+)
Well, I love that the jump puzzles are in the game and especially in WvW (though bein a mesmer means I get to cheat a bit). It’s a lil’ silliness in what can sometimes be a serious affair and hands out siege to you and your buds.
I don’t think everythin in the game was designed to appeal to everyone though and that’s alright.
Just come back later! =)
I hope you realize Gates of Madness isn’t a single person with a single opinion.
Usually I attack people (especially if I outnumber them!). I mean, sometimes I feel that kinship that despite our colours we are explorers in a dangerous place with a thrill for jumping. Other times I feel we a kinship in killing people who send electrons to a different place.
If you run with a good enough group you make money. I run with a group of 5-10 and I never worry about losing money. I’d say I make about 2 gold a night.
Could be fun. Zaishen emotes were pretty much a PvE only thing and that was fine too.
Right now people are already jumping on corpses or /laugh’ing at them, so I don’t think people ego tripping on corpses with emotes is gonna change anything. And I recall flashing /rank just to make myself feel better in town to my friends made me feel extra special. Sometimes shiny is good only by virtue of being shiny and that might be okay.
Temporal curtain is nothing like berserker. It only pulls people that are way close to the edge.
Berserker doesn’t need anyone targeted. It’ll find its own target if there’s a legitimate one in the area. As far as I can tell, everything else gets obstructed. It does seem weird but it’s the only thing we can really do against people on walls other than chaos storm which has has 35 second cooldown.
Dear Axelrod,
You’re welcome. I was at that fight (and others.. that weren’t as much beating our head against ballistas thankfully) and sometimes Goat seems like a guild that has a billion players.
