Why does dueling need a special feature ? :/
You can easily buy a custum arena, set a password, and duel to your heart’s content.
This game isn’t balanced for 1v1, it shouldn’t be made into a special game mode,
no thank you just because 80% of people in a thread want something doesn’t mean its good for the game. What SHOULD be made into a game mode is 2v2 and 3v3… Like a special button for Soloque..

It’s a shame that some “top players” wouldn’t want to go.
Some aren’t able to.

Others have plans they already have committed to.

Eura made Ranger work for us yesterday in ToL. When’s the last time you’ve seen a power ranger in competitive play? ;P

Not necessarily. Who knows, a team might drop out for the last weekend. :P

I said it once and I’ll say it again. GW2 needs 1v1 and 2v2 death match ladders.
I enjoy watching friends duel in wvw and spvp. It seems to be a social thing to do but also proves who is the better player. Of course I’ve also seen the horrible tank vs tank battles that last all day. I’d really like to see anet just get rid of tanky stat combos from spvp. Just remove the tanky amulets already.
How does this have anything to do with Gamescom?

Why is blu not just being flown out?
He has done more work than anyone else in the community and deserves it more than anyone. At the same time he is not a top tier player like the others on the list and should not be playing in an “All Stars” competition, he is a caster not a player and we do not want the casting mess that was pax.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
What’s the excuse? That no game balance is perfect and never will be? Because it’s the truth. The balance is far better than it has been in the past. I’m assuming you started playing April 15th, like much of the PvPers now, and have witnessed only that PvP patch.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
It is an amazing game and not a whole lot has happened in 2 years. Who is to say things aren’t starting to happen? We finally get bi-monthly tournaments. Weekly tournaments. An All-Star event. And I’m sure more is to come.
Sure, some features need touching up, but you’re going to let that make you quit a game? Because you don’t get everything you want? And then to come make a post about you quitting the game. I’m sure you can do better than that judging from the post you just made that I’m replying to.
There is no MMO game that has more fluid combat and better balance than GW2. Seriously, there isn’t. Go play Wildstar, WoW, ArcheAge, Tera, etc. None of those even compare to GW2.
I agree some things need worked on. But never will there be perfect balance. There will always be imperfections. People don’t accept that.

North America needs a ranger and Ovi.5473 is one of the few rangers left that plays at a competitive level no matter what the meta calls for. He has played in the Soac tourney and has more tourney games won than most people have games played. As one of the best rangers to still be actively playing he deserves to have a spot on the ballet.
I’d say Eura or Kizos tbh.

https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/your-vote-decides-the-guildwars2-international-all-stars-teams/
Do I understand this lame system right???
WE, the community of Europe, America and
Asiashould vote 5 guys, – guys which 99,9% of the whole worlds GW2 community knows absolutely friggin nothing about them based on some small advertising texts from the candidates, why they personally think that they should get voted. And why should we vote them? Only so, because so they can represent their continents and get rewarded for that with legendaries and an unique armor?
Is there nobody else, who sees the illogic in this whole system?
Nobody of those players should get voted at all by the community1) The community is very biased
2) Most of the community has no clues about the PvP scene at all and knows who’s best to vote at all, those little advertise texts won’t change that
3) The vote can be easily manipulated. When everyone just has a vote, votes can be sold.
Who’s there to stop anyone from selling their votes to someone of the candidates, especially when there are unique rewards in for them and the community self will draw again only the short straw getting nothing at all for when even their representatives win the tournament for which they have voted. Why has there to be at all any unique rewards for those players, when the sense behind that tournament is at all only to present Guild Wars 2 and how it has flourished two years after its release?
Isn’t it already an honor enough to be there on the tradefare and to participate just on that unique tournament live on stage?
Must it be always again some unique digital rewards, when some real rewards for them like some unique merchandise items would have been far more rewarding for those participants and wouldn’t be as much as a big middle fingerer to all the rest of the community, like unique digital content and stuff, for that others have to work for in the game an half eternity to get it for that these people just have to win a battle in some minutes ??If these participants would get there something nice, like unique sylvari plushies or so, I guess, that would be alot more valuable and unique to be proud off to have it earned there, than to get something, with that already tons of players are running around in the game and a half-unique armor, that other players will earn in future pvp activities later also too
One can throw in into the room just only the question:
What is it those candidates worth it to receive the votes of the community??
Because there’s nothing that would stop the community from making profit out of this and to manipulate the votes.
Entry tickets to participate in such a kind of pvp activities shouldn’t ever be received through community votes at all.
The entry tickets should be given out RANDOMLY through ANET ONLY, simple because1) Anet is NEUTRAL and not biased
2) Anet can’t be sold votes internally to manipulate the voting in the background
3) ANet can make it easier through official PvP Tournaments to locate the players in all regions, which they think are the best to representate their continents. So why does it Anet make themself more complicated, than neccessary with such a kind of manipulative voting system by letting the community decide.
It will be sure like the butter on bread, that there could be candidates willing to buy their votes to get into the team of the representive players for their continent, especially when votes should become very close between two candidates at the end of the voting deadline.
If you watched weekly tournaments or watched ToL 1 or any other tournament in the past year, you would know 90% of these players.
It’s an “All Star” event, not a “Who We Know” event. It’s not for your favorite WvW player or the best CoF runners who can do it in the fastest time.
I didn’t realize voting for 5 people was a complicated system. You probably didn’t do well with Bubble Sheet Tests in school. It’s about as difficult as that.

5 NA eles and not one ranger…
Should have asked Eura.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
I’m confused by your question. You’re asking if the first bracket is full and if you’re team isn’t in that then you’re out. If your team isn’t in that then your team is in #2, #3, or #4.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
So this means the first bracket is full? And if you got invited to that one and your team isn’t on Battlfy you’re out of the tournament?
The first qualifier bracket is full, yes. He did, however, mention that all NA teams that signed up were invited. There are still three others qualifiers.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
If people would stop complaining about the game and went and got better, found a good group of players through the LFG forum or messaging random people that are relatively high on the team leaderboard, they would find a team they enjoy playing with and compete. It would be more fun.
I suggest you do that.

I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
Yes, I am dev who secretly has another account on the forums. Lol.
I believe GW2 will do better than it is because things are going to happen. Is there a problem with that? I’ve also never seen you in team queue so I’m going to make the assumption that you’re the average PvE player who came into PvP on April 15th and is a Rank 13 Night Elf Dragon Beast Hunter with the ability to shoot fire.
There was a few thousand watching, actually. It was rather nice to have that amount.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
That’s a good point. I think this is where the “league play” we were promised comes in. It allows players to be judged on a more dependable scale rather than the current leaderboards.
Then the question is, what are they rewarded with and when? In games such as LoL, as you move up the ladder it is just a “notable achievement” to be Gold, Platinum, or Diamond. You don’t actually earn anything from these achievements aside from Influence Points with every game you play (which are earned by even the worst of players, so it goes against your point).
It is not until the highest tier of play that you might become a recognized name. And if that might happen, you might form a team to compete at a higher level of play. Sure, you can form a team if you’re Bronze, just like you can if you’re in the 20th percentile in GW2, but you earn nothing. You don’t earn anything in-game or outside of the game aside from Influence Points, which, again, everyone can earn, until you reach the level of becoming a professional (or taking a part in third-party tournaments which would be something like Mistpedia Weeklies or ESL Weeklies in our game).
Should it be the same in GW2? We all earn rewards in-game from playing. I think it should be more rewarding, but given what we’re talking about that does not matter.
Currently it is the same right now. Only those who win tournaments, as with LoL, get extra rewards. They are also sponsored professional teams who get paid a lot of money, but if you scale it down it is the same in that sort of way.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
this could be easily abused by choosing playtimes where it´s not possible to face teams which match your rating
I was mostly joking. While 8-team tournaments were awesome, I think it would be abused if gems were the reward.
I’m sure there are better ways of rewarding.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
Olrun, I cannot tell if you’re referring to “we” as in PvErs or “we” as in PvPers for “should be able to be rewarded for high skill play”.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
Agreed. Bring back 8-team tournaments with gems as rewards.

Play the trading post :/
If you want to have fun you play pvp, if you want to make money play the TP.
Convert Skill points to gold
Sell Mats
Get Gold for winning.
You could maybe pull out a 2Gold per hour AVG… so .. only 250 hours left get farming. It’s unfortunate they give us a fraction of the gold PvErs make in an hour.
PVE is boring as kitten though :/ I’d say they’ve earned it, I don’t wanna do dungeons so I don’t do them, and Im pretty sure no one really likes doing em..
They might have earned it with time, but frankly it takes no effort/skill. Gold per hour can be measured in how much time or effort (or even skill) is put into it. They just gave us a random number in PvP that doesn’t measure either of those. Win a solo queue? Here’s 5 more silver for you. That’s silly.

Win a few 2v2, 3v3, or conquest Mistpedia tournaments.
Win some gems if you do well enough in the ToL 2.
Play for a really long time, sell all the mats you get out of the chests when you salvage the items.

PvP is dying.
1. No more PvP backpacks.
2. No more PvP skins (the pvp exclusive skins are no longer obtainable)
3. No more Glory Vendors
4. Nothing but a bunch of chests for the PvE’er.
5. PvP rank 80 is obtainable in 3 months time, so PvE’ers can get achievements…
However WvW titles take years. WvW max rank takes years.
PvP got shafted.
Hotjoins are no longer fun.
Solo que is fighting same people all day.
People say PvP is doing good, but its just a bunch of random PvE’ers in the PvE friendly hearts of the mist.
1. What is a PvP Backpack?
2. Because they converged PvP and PvE skins which is a good thing since PvP ranks are easier to get. Makes you work for your skins by winning gems and other prizes in tournaments like ToL.
3. Why would you need glory vendors when we no longer use glory?
4. Not true. You salvage the items you get from them, sell the mats you receive for gold, buy the skins you were qq’ing about with the gold you receive. Luck grants you better items out of chests.
5. PvP achievements still take a while. If you get to 80 in 3 months, that’s pretty solid. At the old rate it would have taken another year for anyone to reach it. It was near unreachable. Sure, WvW takes forever, but who cares?
6. Hotjoins were never fun.
7. 8/9 people are different in every solo queue I get.
8. PvP is doing better than it ever has before. We have weekly conquest tournaments that are open for all to join as well as 2v2 and 3v3 tournaments. On top of that we have ToL being hosted every 2-3 months. There’s more to come as well.

A positive post in the PvP section of the forums?
Wat?
Funniest moment occurred the other day in a solo queue on skyhammer. 490-490 and I had far capped and other two points were decapped. I could tell the mesmer was going to try to Focus-4 pull me and he jumps on the blue circle (the hole to fall through), stands there for 2 seconds, and drops. About kitten myself.
Him in map chat after it happened: “You didn’t see that.”
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
No, there are plenty of more important things for them to worry about. I’m simply stating the alternatives to such a process is much easier and gives us similar results. Basically, something needs to happen with advertising it, but it doesn’t need to be as complex as creating a new menu for it.
Here are some alternatives:
- Emails are sent out about combat, PvE updates etc: send an email about the tournament a week before and the day of
- Send in-game mail out the week before and the day of
- Social media is where most of the advertising is done: give more of a heads up rather than just the day of
- An in-game system message that mentions it (sort of a like a "Message of the Day)
- Mention it on the PvE streams that happen every so often (at the end of it just make it a small announcemet)
- Put an item in the Gem Store that somehow portrays hype for the tournament (ie. a pet with a shirt that say “ToL 2”; or a finisher that says “ToL 2”, etc)
I’m sure people can be more creative than I can as well.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
Something like an in-game mail would be fine by me. I was just saying that it would take a lot of work for them to implement something like that in the PvP tab. They should do whatever they can with existing systems. Stuff like that, while nice, isn’t worth the effort compared to other priorities.
“Other priorities” – PvE?
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
I agree with OP. Should be advertised more in-game. At least a mail blast about the tournament. A lot of people don’t look at the forums or GW2’s social media, or even the blog posts, so they don’t know. Whether it be a PvP tab or a mail-blast about it, more advertising on it should be done.

Why make a statement like this its common knowledge that asura animations are not quite right and running an asura gives a player a slight advantage. Also Tol is a serious tournament for gw2 banning asura from tol is a good idea. It also make things better for spectators.
