Why must we elongate everything in gw2. If the balances previews for the classes are up and youve made short clips, why not show them in bigger groups instead of just showing 2. Also ToG ends in October? So we are going to have a ToL2 Repeat yet again? Why must these tournies take so long.
Allow me to clarify. The video for the last two professions is not done. Unless you want to watch Karl in front of a plain green screen, there’s no way we can show it tomorrow. These videos each take ~3 hours to film and another 8+ hours to edit. On some weeks, the video wasn’t even exported until the same morning we showed it on the stream.
We opted to do two at a time so as not to overload both you and Karl in the preview. If you look back to when we did previews live, one of those episodes was almost 2 hours long, and by the end they were trying to speed through in order to keep it from going longer. Both you and we didn’t think it was fair to the people who play those professions that were rushed through, nor was it fair to have to sit through two hours of a stream to see your profession’s changes. We feel that this format provided a better means of communicating these changes. We can now devote the appropriate amount of time to each profession and showcase the changes without having to wait for Karl to change builds and move between locations on the map.
You guys really should just let me edit for you. 3 hours to film and 8+ hours to edit each of them into 20-30 minute segments? That’s overkill in my opinion coming from a editors standpoint.

Hopefully not… It’s definitely time for a new game mode if you ask me…
While tournaments are definitely an awesome thing playing the same game mode for 2 years isn’t.
A more difficult and complicated game mode, bit more like the gw1 ones, would be nice.
It’s hard enough for people to understand how to rotate around points. I don’t think a more complicated mode would help.
If you’ve ever played in a solo queue, you will see how hard some peoples’ minds have with grasping the concept of rotations.
Also, I still enjoy conquest as do many others.

If I were Anet I wouldn’t want one of my tournament hosts being the “sponsor” of a team. Regardless of whether or not they give their team an advantage in any way possible, it’s still seen as an “inside man” to sway things for them. You can’t trust one man’s word on the internet..
I’m not saying Mistpedia has done this, I’m just saying it doesn’t look good on Anet to allow for this.
If you look at past tournaments like vVv Gaming’s tournaments, you can see things were done differently. I was the captain of vVv’s team and although vVv sponsored the tournament, they had absolutely nothing to do with seeding or organization of the tournaments they hosted. I, myself, did not even get to know the brackets or anything about the tournament until everyone else did.
If I recall correctly.. Blu and Sireph organized the tournament while vVv just sponsored it and their sponsors gave out prizes.
Would it not make more sense for another organization to seed and oversee certain parts of events that people may have anything to do with giving any particular team an edge?

The funny thing is for NA, is that the only ppl voting for PKAY, blacklisted, no clu, or straight of colombia (if they get any) are probably there own players on that team ROFL. I voted for megaloDONG, cause the name.

Searching for a necromancer or elementalist for the upcoming ToG tournament(s) and beyond.
Need someone with lots of experience and knowledge of all aspects of GW2 PvP.
Must be willing to practice multiple times a week (times TBD) and wanting to be a permanent asset to the team… not just a team member for ToG.
PM in-game if interested.

They are having one new set for these tournies in particular and they are having one that is available to all who earn it through progressing through a rewards track. Isn’t that kind of what you’re saying you want, in a way?
And I don’t think you’re right on the.. " there is no reason to log in unless there is a tourney around the corner" anymore. With the newly announced 3 $50k tournaments, do you really think is stops there? Of course not. This is the beginning of progressing into something larger. If that itself is nothing for you to log in for, then this might not be your game.
Because of these big tournaments, there is something to log in for. There’s a reason to practice 5-6 times a week to be the best; because I can bet you that other teams will start doing this because they want to win the prize.

I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
I think Brix is correct. I’d like to think more than just one team will go to the WTS, though. Three teams competing for $50k? Why not like 8?
Sure 8 isn’t divisible by 3 (per region), but I’m sure something could be sorted out.

Probably, and hopefully, it won’t be more than just conquest. It’s balanced around conquest. Any other game mode with current balance would be atrocious.
Watch the 2v2 Mistpedia Cup. You can’t bring in whatever class you want. Engineers and Ele’s are the best 2v2 setup. It’s not made for 2v2s.

The first TOL viewer count plummeted after they gave away their free precursor. It ended up with around ~1600 viewers from 4 k viewers.
To give a comparison, the completely unsupported “violating my gamemode” wvw gvg between the top NA and EU teams pulled in comparable viewers.
Even so, you can’t tell what is going on in GvG. It’s a zergfest.

You jumped directly into the turrets? lol…
Kill them from ranged spamming whatever bouncing or AOE attacks you have. An engineer isn’t going to leave the node, because that’s where his turrets are. He has to stay there unless he wants to fight without utilities.
That’s a team fight. Can’t all stay ranged.

Each region has 128 teams participating. That’s 640 players per region or 1280 total not counting subs. We had more teams than that sign up, so more like 1500 players signed up.
1500 US wide, on a free event, on a game they already own…. SPVP is dead, just let it RIP already…
Oh!! You’re one of those guys who hasn’t played PvP yet! Okay so you go to the Heart of the Mists, and start with hotjoin. Someone at your skill level in GW2 shouldn’t have too hard of a time with hotjoins, but I might be wrong

GW2 will never become an e-sport. Even WoW struggles to be an e-sport because MMos are not really made to be an e sport, unlike MOBAs, they scream e-sport.
WoW e-sports are 2v2 and 3v3. Very limited compared to LoL 5v5 map with objectives and such, also easier to follow similar to a football match.
Regarding GW2, I watched half a match before I gave up. Watching a particle spam gets old really fast. As someone mentioned, even the casters have a hard time keeping up with whats going on and are just yelling things they notice through the particle spam.
As much as I hate to admit it, this is true.
The reason MMO’s aren’t e-sports is because of their complexity. People don’t understand why and how others do certain rotations and ability combinations with their 15-30 abilities they have available.
Unlike MMO’s, MOBA’s like LoL are extremely easy to follow because each player has 4 unique abilities and 2 abilities everyone has access to. Because the game is so easy to understand, people enjoy watching it since they know what is going on at all times. Casters don’t have to jumble through a thousand words to get their point across for what happened because there is a limited amount of abilities.
Overall, I think MOBA’s are extremely easy to play and learn unlike MMO’s which aren’t as easy to understand. Just look at the most popular games in esports:
1. LoL/Dota 2
2. CoD
3. Starcraft 2
…
Look at the complexity of each game. As we go down the list the game gets more complex. You could go watch LoL and understand what is happening after 20 minutes if you’ve never played before. Go watch Starcraft 2 and you’ll be confused as hell. The only reason it’s #3 is because Blizzard has made that game an esport from day one with BW back in ’98 and ’99 and people have followed it since (and they have money).
Complexity of the game is everything!

So you’re covering 2 professions every 2 weeks. Which means at least 2 months until any balance? Hilarious. In reality I wouldn’t expect a balance patch until october at the earliest. At least its summer :P

This is essentially what leaderboards will be. Team queue is for teams so if you queue in team queue with 4 and your 5th leaves, that is your fault.
Leaderboards will come later this year.

AFKing is fair enough on skyhammer.
Before we get to see Lordrosicky make a QQ post about Skyhammer… let’s see the next class he picks out that kills his necromancer.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
Every class has their own faceroll build now. Elementalist is not OP but it became braindead like other builds. DD and staff ele= roll your face over the keyboard.
How about try one yourself before you say anything?
Try win a Team Q and see if it’s really faceroll or not.
I agree. Any build that becomes good people start to QQ because they die to it. THEN they say its OP. If a build kills them, it’s automatically OP. Logic of anyone under the age of 17 and/or bad at GW2 PvP.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
It sounds like a personal problem.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
None of OP’s posts have any logic. 100% of his threads he creates is him coming back from a solo queue and posting what kittened him off and needs to be nerfed b/c of it.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
@OP – You create a new thread on a weekly basis about what you think deserves more attention and what is overpowered, solely based upon what angers you in solo queue or hotjoin (whichever type of player you are).
None of your arguments are backed up with actual facts and good suggestions, it’s just a rant and some QQ here and there.

i love how one of the highest RANKED ranger players say “the build works” and everyone just ignores him and instantly declare the build rubbish even though they arent even close to his rank or experience.
Yeah, rank apparently doesnt matter. If noobs cannot play it, it is rubbish. Not hard to play, just “unviable” and rubbish.
ah…. gotta say them words that made me famous now…
People, it’s a L2P Issue, deal with it. If you fail with LB/GS, it is a user error, not a build error. You simply got out-played.
actually he is just rank ~70 and this in na!
(eu players go to na and they are top 25 in 2 days)even in eu servers, it’s really easy to go rank 50+ really fast with a bit decent team mates.
in the actual state of the game top 50 means nothing.
at least in eu
the best ranger players (azron, yilvina darnus and niah) don’t run (or was running)
a power ranger build
and every one of them stay/ed top 15 in the eu ladder for a long time and played in good teams called cheese mode, 55hp monks and erotic solitude legends.all of them played spirit ranger and like every one knows eu > na
i have np with eura but keep you hype a bit low na guys.
power rangers are just food in eu meta gameplay, no matter how good they can play.
You, sir, are ignorant to everything about how “good” people are. People like Eura duo queue and trio queue in team queue just to have fun, not to get to the top page so people think that he’s good.
Second, Spirit Ranger is far less viable than Power Ranger. When’s the last time you’ve seen a Spirit Ranger on a good team aside from 55 (do they even run one anymore?)?
You could say the same for power, but at least he tries new things instead of sticking to the same outdated builds. AND he makes it work.
I would place my bets on Eura and Kizos over any EU Ranger TBH.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
It’s viable if your team makes it viable. Our Ranger, Eurantien, played Power Ranger with LB/GS in the ToL 2 Qualifier 1. We won our four games and advanced to the August Finals. If your team makes use of it correctly and makes it viable, it is.

Do we get free stuff for watching it?
Otherwise, why should anyone outside of the (official esports community) bother with it?
To watch others and try to get better from doing so?
haha – and this is the gw2 problem^^
noone wanna be better cause everyone think he is the best – gw2 is designed so even the kittentiest clicker can feel like a hero by spamming #1 in wvw on the comander
game needs finaly a good combat log to beging with so people can see what they do wrong^^
but anyway – to the OP … good initiative
A combat log tells you what hit you for how much, not quite what you did wrong. Even so, if you’re willing to get better and are a good player, you will beat any who aren’t willing to do so. There is reward in practicing.
I used to run the Academy Gaming tournaments for GW2.
The game’s balance is based around conquest. Would have to redo balance in its entirety for any other game mode.
