Mob stunning players ruin all MMORPGs

Have to agree with you there. Every single mmo out there has had some kind of slow mechanic that occurs during being “targeted”. LOTRO for example when it launched actually had a slowing debuff if any mob looked in your direction, it was called terror. It had the eye of sauron as a symbol and it would literally slow you to a crawl. Now I dunno about you but if a monster was chasing me the last thing I would be doing is walking slower than when I was on my way to the kitchen to fix a sandwich.

CC in mobs do nothing but annoy the playerbase, they aren’t realistic. Mobs generally don’t have CC from across the whole continent, making them have CC is like making every player into that blonde chick on every horror movie ever made in which they trip while running away, it’s cliche and cheap.

There are two types of writers. Guys like Piers Anthony outline their work and they write it to that outline, hardly ever varying what they write. Guys like Stephen King don’t use outlines and evolve the story as they go.

Stephen King, before he finishes a book, doesn’t really always know where it’s going. I uses the equivalent of an iterative process. I understand it, because it’s the same process I use when I write. I don’t use an outline.

It takes longer and you have to backtrack more often, but that’s what works for me. I strongly suspect WoW is working from the equivalent of an outline, but Anet is, in many ways, breaking new ground. So they won’t always know what works and what doesn’t. So announcing stuff is more of a risk.

After the book/script is finished it takes a lot of planning, time and ressources to produce a tv-series (like game of thrones) or a game-play-series (like GW2 LS2). And in both endeavours there will be unexpected problems and some things that do not work as intended.

From Game of Thrones I know already, that there will be a 5th and 6th Season, even if season 5 will likely start not before march/april next year. I do not know what will be in the next season, I do not want spoilers, but I am pretty sure they will deliver (on time).

Is there a Season 3 of LS in the planning/making? Is there any announcement like “due to the success of (the first half of) season 2 of the LS we have made the decision to produce a season 3”?

No, of course not. It looks to me from the outside: A-Net does not want to announce anything before it is finished, because they know they are very often not able to finish and deliver an announced product and do not want this to became public evidence, so they announce nothing. Which would be really bad.

Greetings.

Now let’s continue your analogy and show what’s wrong with your argument. In game of thrones, they don’t allow a production to be completed and continue for months if someone is wearing a winnie the pooh backpack (engineer hobosacks) because that would detract from the general immersion into the series, would they? They also wouldn’t allow a stunt scene in which Tyrion or Joffrey were able to crush someone’s head like “The Mountain” because it wouldn’t be realistic, would it?(warriors of any race being able to solo dungeons because they are OP in PVE).

So yes while there are some things that take time like the rewards drought this game suffers from that’s not immediately easily fixed, there are other more glaring problems with solutions that other games have already done heavy research and had easily usable solutions.

So one has to ask, why aren’t some of these things in yet? What’s holding them up? Why aren’t these things priorities? Why aren’t these announcements? Why are people so complacent with waiting this long, do you really think fans would put up with that in a series like Game of Thrones? and Why are people putting up with it here?

Campaigns and here’s why. Shorter development times, quicker content and feature updates, infusion of new cash to bring even more content.

BUT as in all things, before they can even start on that they seriously need to fix all of the glaring problems this game has had in open world PVE.

A Campaign is a stand-alone game with its own starter areas, own economy, own maps, etc. Why would that involve shorter development times, quicker content and feature updates, etc?

That’s actually not how I define a campaign. I Legacy of Romulus was a campaign for STO, it wasn’t large enough to be an expansion, but with the infusion of cash it required, many of the problems of the game were cured in the process and the game was immensely improved.

Just as Tyranny of Dragons is a campaign for NWO, it’s just big enough to be fun last a few months until the next campaign, it can happen in 3 month intervals 4 times a year or 4 month intervals 3 times a year.

BTW both are still about 3-5 times bigger and more impactful than LS1 or LS2 in this title.

Wasted potential and terrible handling

I think this is an excellent break down of the 2 year history of these forums.

You did however leave out the part where even though they want to hear from us they threw away a perfectly great starting point of nearly 2 years of suggestions in the suggestions folder!

When you stated that you weren’t happy about where the content was going the first thing I thought you might talk about is the notion that dungeons will no longer be the focus, and even though you didn’t you spoke about the open world, I still would like to say that I think that’s the one redeeming element of this game’s direction now is to remove the focus on dungeons entirely. Open world should have been the bread and butter and we’re not talking about LS either we’re talking about monthly updates to the events and metas that should have occurred instead of fractals and the ascended grind fest (or even you know mini games that don’t involve pvp style competition or violence like fishing, housing, farming)

I have to agree that we’ve been telling them for 2 years now what we want, they shouldn’t have a problem looking it up it’s mostly all there in the suggestions folder and I say that mainly because the newer players keep repeating everything we’ve already discussed there over and over again. Honestly they do. All the same things. I think while they do the CDIs they should get a team together to take a look at the suggestions folder and see what we’ve been asking for. It would smooth things over and keep everyone from repeating themselves.

Have you seen what happens on these forums if something that have been announced is ever changed even in the slightest way?

I’ve certainly never seen the entire front two pages be flooded with posts insinuating that ANet does nothing at all with their time. I’ve never seen a wholesale crash of player confidence. I’ve never seen anything warrant a flood of dev responses, a return of the CDI, and a bunch of game designer posts regarding high level company policy.

It’s not the announcing that causes the issues, it’s when we wait for well past a reasonable amount of time for any of these requests or announcements to be placed in the game that causes the issue. Please stop confusing the need for more communication with the need for said communication to ACTUALLY occur in the game! It’s a cognitive dissonance argument and it’s non sequitur. Case in point, hobosacks. /endofline

I actually suggested to Chris in his thread that we have an in game sort of report tool for the suggestions from the players. You could put a character limit on it and even implement the ability to upload an image. It could have a popdown menu for categories (which would change a bit after launch) but it would also allow you to collect the data in a more efficient what WHILE people are playing the game. You could then parse the data by category see which ones received the most requests pick out those as the most prioritized and then submit those to the very stickies you were mentioning in this thread.

That’s not ANet staff. Add the name to your “Friends” or “Blocked” list and you’ll see who it is. S/he has a history of complaining about “Match Fixing” in EotM here on the forums. Guess this person doesn’t know impersonating Staff is bannable.

That’s what I was thinking. First I don’t think staff make an announcement like that ,second I don’t think they ask you if you’re doing something wrong they just look at your chat long (which has been a thing since launch) and finally the text color is all wrong. This person is trolling you, you need to send a report to support so they will get banned for impersonating staff, the forums is the wrong place to post this. But I do have to say that since there are obviously still people selling boss fights in PVE dungeons because their class just happens to be powerful enough, I wouldn’t say that OP is entirely innocent.

the only way to fix it is to reduce upscaling. if more players actually made the event succeed quicker, these leeches would be better off helping and making the event end sooner, so they can then do another event.

Not sure how upscaling works but if it works by proximity I’d have to agree, they need to tag in order for upscaling to occur it would reduce the time it takes immensely.

Hobo Sacks: A Terrible Fashion Statement

Not that they’ve actually been talking in the Warrior forums. Their silence seems to encompass all classes – we’re the only ones with a red-bubble post anywhere in the first three pages.

That said, I brought hobosacks up in the ‘communicating with you’ thread, knowing they wouldn’t respond (because A ) off-topic and B ) against their policy); the reply I got was super-ambiguous (literally: ‘…(-:’ was the reply), but more than I expected.

Same here. I brought up inherent pet weakness as well as the hobosacks as examples of problems we’ve heard absolutely nothing about in months with seemingly multiple easy fixes that shouldn’t take any time at all compared to most things in the game mainly because we’ve seen easy solutions in other games for the same problems.

Didn’t get an answer either but oh well we’ll see in the months to come.

Not sure how they will fix this but I do know that the system they were using before the magic find change was flawed in that it used a system of DPS to guage rewards instead of participation. I think that they should probably add other methods to manage this like in events where there’s a big boss they could add a scaling reward for those who actually resurrect people who are downed, those who are hurt they could add a healing chart and those who are attacking they could add an algorithm to measure if they’d participated early sometime in the middle and the end to make sure people aren’t just end tagging.

But that punishes honest players who arrive late who aren’t just doing it to be leechers.

I wouldn’t say no to them getting a reduced reward if they don’t participate in all parts, but not an all or nothing proposition.

It will also hurt people.trying to get more people for an event with a timer but not enough dps. What health is he at? 50%? Sorry, I won’t get any reward so I’ll pass since it would be no reward for my time, I’d rather go do temple defense again, as I’ll get a reward.

That is true I had not thought of that. hmmm

I think it also illustrates the need for a full map event location system like in most FPS games. We shouldn’t have to advertise in chat channels that these things are going on.

Let me add to the saving builds thing:

~ the way I propose they do this is to make it per purpose. PVE Open world, PVE Dungeoneering, PVE underwater, PVP WVW, and tPVP.
~ they should add an outfitter option so that gear can be switched easily for different purposes.

As far as Autolooter is concerned I’ve wondered why this hasn’t been a thing all along. As an Engineer the F key just gets in the way of picking up turrets anyway. LOTRO has had this for years, you still see the loot briefly in a little popup but you don’t have to run anywhere to pickup the items they just appear in your bags.

I’m not happy about how they’ve handled classes as an Engineer I feel it’s completely negligent however I have to say that I agree that they can’t do everything and that it does take time. They did pick three things that they felt were the most asked for out of that CDI and went with it. Because of their focus on other development things like launching in China and the PVP/Dungeon focus of this game, however, they did have an exceedingly long development time. I’m saying maybe we should see where this goes coming up. You see their recent interview gave me the impression that their focus will no longer be on dungeons, with that out of the way and with no other major launches happening let’s give them a chance to redeem themselves.

I personally would like to see a new focus on the problems in the Open World PVE which due to the focus on PVP/WVW/tPVP/Dungeons has been neglected far far too long, I think they need to fix these issues so that the gameplay is normalized and their design statements become honest and true (like their statements on a dedication to more diversity and their own trinity being an actual thing in their game instead of Zerker being the only option)

I also feel that if they do CDI’s after this next one they should include ALL classes each class having what Colin described as a stickie with the results of the CDI in it giving players an idea of what they are working on based on what is most important to the playerbase without time frames (because I do have programmer friends and they’ve explained to me the time frames and what might have happened with Arenanet’s).

I just don’t want to be ignored, I don’t want serious problems like Explosives Trigger Range for mines in PVE or the Kit Refinement problems as future solutions to the class problems we face. AND I’d prefer that the CDI focus on the inherent problems of the game that have plagued it for so long like condition stacking.

So basically I’ll be happy if these inherent problems are fixed first and foremost, then a focus on fixing the classes, then a focus on adding more things to do in the open world away from any dungeon consideration in the future.

I know all of my ideas aren’t going to be put in, don’t misunderstand, but I gotta say some of them weren’t my ideas at all they were long processed fixes done by other studios in the past with the same exact problems we see in this game (because if you remove the shiny graphics under the surface it really is a spreadsheet with the same issues) like for example the global inherent weakness of pets across every class this is something that’s been experienced in every title and the solution after years and years of hard work on this has always been 90% immunity for pets to all AOE and splash damage types in every single mmo I’ve ever played. It’s not been suggested just by myself either it’s been a mainstay solution in every game and many a game reviewer as well as many a developer have used this simple solution to such a big problem for pet heavy classes for years now.

Things like the solution for the pet heavy classes are what I am talking about when I’ve made mention that there are alot of problems with simple solutions that have already been drummed out that shouldn’t be ignored. I have hope that someone will also review the suggestions Archive because much of what people are asking for has been repeated from that archive over and over, I’ve watched it in the forums these past 2 years.

I think you are mistaking copyright infringement and plagiarism. Taking the actual word is copyright infringement. Stealing an idea and not giving credit where it is from is pretty much plagiarism. Many people do this. Plagiarism isn’t necessarily a crime but rather an ethical concern.

You know, I’m not sure where this plagiarism tangent started from, but there’s another phrase we use for “idea stealing” – it’s called creative collaboration. Or we could just call it, “Every artistic field ever in the history of humanity.”

You have to realize that stealing an idea wholesale is almost impossible to begin with (or at least, near impossible to prove). Most ideas go through several iterations when you actually try to put them into practice. And it’s surprisingly easy for two or more people to come up with the same idea, independent of one another.

Furthermore, one hasn’t produced anything by coming up with an idea. There is no observable piece of created material that can have its origins examined. Idea “stealing” will never be a serious concern because not only are ideas cheap and meaningless on their own, but people can claim “stolen idea” at random, in a world where it’s taken seriously – with no way to verify who “thought of” the idea first.

People who obsess over others stealing their ideas are usually concerned because they haven’t extensively gone through the process of bringing ideas to concrete reality. And that grueling process often tears our “nobel-prize-winning” ideas into the ragged shreds of thought that they really are.

At the end of the day, execution is what people are capable of observing, so it’s the only thing that matters.

Some of us would love for them to “steal” our ideas and implement them. LOL :P

I like how OP (as well as some other people on forum) talk in everyone’s name…You completely ignoring the fact that some players LIKE Living Story…Just cause u dont like it,as well as some other (already famous) forum ragers and trollers dont…doesn’t mean that other people do not want it.I love Living Story and i dont want it gone just cause some of you are selfish. This game is not developed just for minority of you that complain all the time.Arena Net knows how many active players they have and that proves them that what they doing,…..they are doing it right. You want expansion?Ok ask for them ( im not selfish). You want mounts,SAB,new legendaries and all other things that i dont care about?Ok as for them…..but dont be selfish and trying to take away content that other players already have and like to play.God this community….

I personally like it as well (like for instance the better system of actually finding rewards they’ve installed that I wish they’d install across the entire Tyria experience) and yes I disagree with the OP about PVP WvW and dungeons ever being the focus of the game again.

I don’t mind them working on PVP personally so long as they deliver equal attention to PVE however, I think I speak for many in the PVE community that feel the same way that combat, diversity, traits, rewards, and progression all need heavy attention in PVE going forward before their normal schedule of content continues in any system because of the serious problems in PVE and in the overall game experience with these aspects. This game needs an overhaul to bring it back to it’s glory, the prelaunch goals glory.

I’m afraid as an Engineer I too have to agree with Fadeaway about some of the decisions you see I too experienced this kind of weirdness.

We had a talk some time ago about how kits were too popular, loads of great ideas where put forth in the suggestions folder on how to fix turrets and make gadgets and elixirs better choices as well as adding multiple weapons with awesome suggestions for their use (like a staff for engineer with lightning affects) but instead of listening to the playerbase, it was decided that kit refinement be broken.

Now the Engineer is weak when it comes to alternative methods (other than elixir line) of removing conditions as well as essential emergency heals. Not just that but we have to work harder to get AOE heals to occur whereas other classes just sit back and do their normal thing while heals just happen.

I hope as Fadeaway has mentioned that in the future these discussions and summaries will prevent events like Kit Refinement from ever occurring again because these drastic changes are both shocking and a very unwelcomed surprise and often don’t get fixes especially in PVE, and that we understand why the more brilliant solutions are left astray like those who are well received and upvoted but ultimately ignored.

All this talk of plagiarism and nobody realizes that GW2’s wardrobe is basically WoW’s Transmog with a better more updated interface. LOL When I first heard the word Wardrobe the first thing I thought of is the outfits of LOTRO in which these items no longer take up valuable bag space and you don’t have to destroy them afterwords, they have multiple purchasable outfit slots to put items in so that one can switch at will, which I think is lacking in this title especially for those of us who would love an outfitter/multispec switcher. There are just some things that are needed and are essential in mmo gaming. What I find interesting is when people keep saying no don’t add it because it’s been done before, who cares, the same goes for using a ranged class that uses arrows it’s all been done before but cutting people off from having the essential ui elements that every game needs doesn’t make for a very smart argument. Games didn’t used to have account banks but they do now because people needed something other than mail to send items between alts. There are just some things mmos can’t escape without making the game seem less than complete or completely lacking in some areas.

When it comes to being a WoW clone the thing that this game did that made it try to be a WoW clone imo was making the game suddenly ALL about dungeons. That’s the problem they threw out what made this game appealing in the first place to many of us even those of us who played WoW for years and years. I bought this game specifically because they spoke like they were going in a direction AWAY from dungeons prelaunch. I never wanted to step into another LFGchannel-Pug-LFGtool-votekicking-denied-access-because-of-class-imbalance situation ever again and prelaunch interviews in which Colin laid out the plans for open world, the updates to open world to follow, and the reasons why open world was originally to be the focus (NOT DUNGEONS) was the reason why I bought GW2 in the first place. I felt it was very liberating from the old molds. But then imagine my immense disappointment when Nov 2012 came along.

I hope they have seen the errors now that I know they aren’t working on dungeons like they were due to their recent interviews, and will turn this game around.

What are we working on right now? Feature Pack 2 (in ~two more weeks), Season 2 of the Living World (coming back this fall), the WvW Fall Tournament, and the World Tournament Series PvP global tournament are just some of the things we are currently working on that we can tell you about right now.

After the end of the tournaments, the game will be the same since it was released!
Players really want:

  • New Dungeons/Fractals nope
  • New Dungeon/Fractal Rewards nope
  • PvP modes/maps nope
  • Guild Halls (GvG) yes
  • New Legendaries yes
  • New Weapon and Armor skins (No RNG) double yes
  • Precursor Crafting yes

Please, stop tournaments and living story, We want more permanent content!
We’ve spent years asking and you don’t listen us!

Thanks for reading and responding.

So let me first explain why the nopes part of the problem with this title for 2 years now has been the focus on WvW PvP and Dungeons. This game was never meant to be about dungeons it was originally supposed to be all about PVE open world. On the PVP side it’s been such a problem in that all of the rewards from playing go only to the dungeons/WvW/EotM so in order to fix the problems with lack of rewards for the rest of the larger population, the one I suspect they are trying to get back, they need to stop focusing on PVP/dungeons and start focusing more on open world and ALL of the sundry problems that go with open world that have been broken for so long. (such as pve imbalance which is seen in the ability of some classes to solo dungeons, lack of rewards, lack of essential crafting materials related to the RNG you speak of, their own trinity not in the game (support, CC) lack of diversity in weapons and builds, etc etc) So instead of asking for more PVP you should be asking for fixes to the problems the larger community needs which means more revenue more content because the larger community pays for that. If you scare away the larger community by focusing on the wrong things you end up cutting off the hand that feeds you in the long run.

Secondly, they’ve already said their dungeon team wouldn’t be working on dungeons or hard mode dungeons because it’s too time consuming WHICH btw is basically what Colin said in his famous prelaunch interviews about the early direction of the game before they dropped the fractal bomb and ascended grind on everyone in Nov 2012.

I think it’s high time they refocus their efforts on getting this game back to it’s roots.

I’m not saying mounts should absolutely be a thing, and probably not such a big project as combat mounts (because it would turn into yet another #1 spam fest sadly) but housing definitely. They need guild halls houses they could make it a location that’s contested so that people could do whole guild battles, or they could put the personal housing in gathering/farming instances but they definitely should do something.

I can’t tell you how much joy it brings to decorate your home from various rewards from doing adventures that are part of the overall lore of the game. It’s so fun to show off trophies from bosses you’ve killed or gifts from faction societies you’ve helped. When I was in LOTRO that was the most fun I had with Housing.

@Ipan yes it was supposed to be originally all about Karma which is why some of us were very confused when we saw that racial armors and weapons were gold based only at one point they changed only one sadly.

Here’s the interview talking about dungeons.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=umpR6LhBhW4#t=256

I’m very happy about this myself because as I mentioned the reason I bought this game was due to the fact that it was originally supposed to have dungeons as more of an afterthought rather then the center of the content. When they started LS 1 I was even more disgruntled because at the end of each and every LS was a five man dungeon, that wasn’t open world either. In fact when they spoke originally about open world project updates they said it would be far far less work because of the framework for the open world which would save them time and money and make updates more frequent and more full, since they’ve been splitting their focus even the LS has suffered so it’s definitely time to refocus their efforts on what the game should have been from the start.

RNG has never worked. Look at their sister game Wildstar, and you’ll see the problem. Even Diablo III eventually had to change the way in which drops occur because they were so few and far between even the devs didn’t see them! It’s just a very very bad design that should stay back in 2004 where it belongs.

A single dungeon with the depth and the difficulty of underworld/ fow or doa from GW1 would be enough to keep many players busy for months. But instead of we get some living story that you finish in one hour, and thats it.
The combat-system of GW2 is the best i ever played, and i dont understand why they waste it with their living story instead of giving us a challenging dungeon.

A dungeon along the lines of the Aetherblade path that is not done by people because you can do several other dungeons in the same length of time it takes to run this one path?

The best rewards came from the UW/FoW/DoA. If ANet did something that made it worth peoples while. Then they’ll do it. Clearly what ever you get from there is not worth the time/effort.

Cept dungeons will no longer be their focus from here on out. They announced the problems with dungeons and the maintenance of dungeons in another post, which is why the discussion of removing the rewards from dungeons and placing them firmly back into the open world where they should have been all along in the first place has come up again. You see some of you are too new and don’t recall the discussion some of the devs had prelaunch about why dungeons would not be the focus of this game, the open world originally was to be updated regularly with new open world events and new metas. When the game launched you could actually find exotics in chests you found around the world, they were randomized for this reason. You could get actual loot without grouping without magic find by killing veterans and champions alike. Just by participating in the game you were rewarded for your time. There were places to farm for Tier 6 materials and as some have said it was a very bad idea to make them more RNG and to not allow people who craft to buy these things directly from vendors instead of having crafting bags with more RNG.

I guess my point is, dungeons and rewards only focused in dungeons/WvW environments were definitely not the original focus of the title. Before Fractals and Ascended were announced people were asking why dungeons wouldn’t be the focus and put pressure on the developers to make dungeons the new focus. We’ve all seen the problems that have come about from that design choice, players denied access because they weren’t the right class, class imbalance to the degree that only certain classes can solo and sell boss kills, exploits that allowed players to get extra rewards. I think it’s high time they delivered the game most of us were spending money on because of these things being left behind originally.

I looked forward when I first bought this game, to the thought of never having to step foot into a dungeon again for anything. ( this was after experiencing years of dungeons and raids and LFG in WoW) so you can imagine the disappointment when Nov 2012 came along.

So i was thinking maybe we could have a CDI next week about the logistics (Methods, format, etc etc) of better communication on both sides?

thoughts?

Chris

I appreciate the CDIs but some of us wonder where they are leading. For example, we’ve not seen any plans on traits yet, or the problems with megaservers not being user friendly. I’m all for communication don’t misunderstand but surely there’s a better system to submit and categorize our suggestions with less man hours, and a better system of reporting to the community what you’re working on now from these CDIs?

To give you an example of something I totally expected from megaservers as a player who plays lots of single shard games is the ability to group or even right click on the name of any of the guild officers and choose to be placed in their “channel”.

So we going to get a real Ranger CDI thread this time?

Engineers haven’t even gotten one yet and we’ve been the most nerfed and broken class out of the whole list. Edit: in PVE.

Careful what you wish for or you too could get a CDI that was nothing more than a cleverly disguised waste bin with a piece of paper that read “Suggestion Box” taped to the front…

LOL Right! I hadn’t thought of that! Wouldn’t be any different than the current Hobosacks thread is right now tho!

You post seems to be a week early.

Maybe hold off until we see what the new PvE feature part of the feature patch holds and then make a judgment.

For me at least this is their last chance to show they are actually working on PvE content and not just smoke and mirrors. If next week doesn’t have some hefty PvE content then I am inclined to agree with you.

I am waiting but I gotta say after the list they posted I don’t hold much hope as an Engineer. I’m really really trying to be positive about this but let me give you a back story.

When a company does something I don’t like I make sure that I’m not taken in again by it. I watch any and all other projects under the same publisher.

Let me tell you that the same problems we’re seeing here as far as rewards, the economy, loot etc are actually happening in a sister project and are actually causing people to leave not in the second month but the first month of a sister game of this one.

When I learned all of the same problems I’ve experienced as a player in this title are indeed happening in a sister game when it comes to loot, progression, rewards and the economy, that let me know that there’s a bigger problem here. I’m not making this stuff up seriously I’m not go read that other game’s forum you’ll see what I mean.

The only thing we can do at this point is vote with our wallet. That’s what I plan on doing myself I cannot speak for everyone but this game is just nowhere near not only what I was told it would be prelaunch but it’s also nowhere near what they said it would have 6 months ago.

I’m trying to be patient I am but I also have to be realistic, here’s me being patient waiting for that feature pack and then any announcement they have to make about what’s planned next if there’s anything on the wiki list they are planning on working on for Feature Pack 3

Let’s take a look at some of the other quotes in the same article. Hang on, what have we here.

From the upcoming release of our brand spanking new Looking for Group (LFG) tool, to investigating ways to limit culling in PvE, to the two-week content schedule our Living World teams have in store, the second half of 2013 has countless more exciting new things in store for our players than I can possibly cover here. As always, the content above is subject to change as we test and iterate on these systems.

OP which part of subject to change did you not understand?

Well for one thing, nothing’s changed. The game is exactly the same as it was post Nov 2012 as far as precursors are concerned. Same goes for loot. They removed the old code for magic find but didn’t improve upon it and I could go look up the quote for that rewards revamp promise but I don’t think I need to everyone can see it on Wiki.

And while I appreciate Obrien’s response on the other thread and I am trying to be patient the fact of the matter is this, you cannot tell people you’re going to do something as a company and then not do anything for months and years even without someone finally taking notice and calling you out on it. Customers have a right to complain.

Both posts say basically the same thing, but the tone is very different. Those who also love the game, see the first type of post and take it as an attack on something they also invested time and energy in and love and feel a need to defend it. And in defending it can be just as harsh as those who are attacking.

Well you see here’s the trouble. Some of us received the same reaction from the same defenders some of which are on this very thread, when we started posting in the suggestions and class forums 2 months after launch. We were just like you are now, considerate, quiet, less than passionate, but after being attacked so many times by these defenders (who really have nothing to defend because facts are facts and it’s gone far far beyond their excuse of “the game is new”) we get tired of it. It’s so bad that sometimes we wonder if these people work for the company, we really do because some of the things they say in their posts are nothing like what normal people with clear understanding of how the game works (or in this sense doesn’t work) would say after experiencing the same exact things by playing the game normally. Like people who’ve played the title know what it’s like in combat in the open world as someone with condition build, or they know what it’s like to not be able to farm Tier 6 materials properly to raise above the threshold in crafting on the way to 500. But these same people will defend the game blindly, defend an economy that does not work, and prevent those of us who are passionate about the game being right, the game being what we paid for, from being heard without confusing the issue at hand.

So you’ll forgive us if we get tired of the same old from people who might as well be hired by marketing if they aren’t already.

Peaceful things to do in Gw2 (Suggestions)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

tigirius.9014

I asked for fishing the second month of this game. You know what I got? People attacking me saying that I was being too demanding. Every game I’ve played has had some form of fishing.

I’ve asked for tournaments, achievements, props, poles we can craft, nets, boats, clothing, (all craftable or from rewards) rafts, places in the world that have flotsam from shipwrecks to fish up items that are valuable, special fish (like in another game I used to fish up a fish called Vendorfish it was a grey and gave lots of gold), special fishing only recipes with better bonuses than standard cooking. When I asked for backpacks (like the umpteen million times I have in the suggestions folder before it was tossed out) I asked for job related backpacks like the fisherman’s pack. (I asked for alot more than that but it was 1 example).

I would so love to farm as well. I love your idea these things aren’t new no but people expect them in games as beautiful as GW2 because some of us actually login to these environments to relax and this kind of activity is relaxing to me as well! I can’t tell you the number of beautiful places I’d love to fish or even plant a house with a farm.

I love the entire thing! I really do we need housing, farms and fishing in this game. I’d love some carnival things too with rewards like a currency to turn in for pets or even special ranger pets. This game just isn’t casual…. people keep saying that but it’s just not until they add these things it will remain unfinished from the perspective of many of us who’ve played well fleshed out titles that were fleshed out into their second year which means this game is behind in the sense that it hardly has lasting potential and it hasn’t had enough major updates to bring it into modern times. It would flesh out the world so much if these things were added.

I have seen a lot of threads discussing things that people would like to be added or changed about the game. It ranges from making conditions on par with direct damage dealers in group settings to the request for meaningful end game content such as dungeons. However, the replies are always the same. People constantly bash the individual and announce that the game is basically perfect and that nothing needs to be changed. Here is the thing though: If the game added new dungeons or made conditions better, how would that take away from you want in the game?

We have all invested a great amount of time into this game, some more than others. Some people would like to see content more geared toward their tastes. It is not enough to just dismiss them and tell them to go play another game. They have invested their time and money into this game. They are politely letting ANet know what would keep them coming back and spending more money. They are not trying to destroy your experience, they are just trying to work with ANet so that people like them won’t just move on.

I have been playing this game since launch and I am not crazy about Living Story, but I am not saying that they should stop doing that. No one is. Most people who complain about Living Story complain because they see it as a substitute for what they really want out of this game. There is no reason ANet cannot attempt to please both crowds.

Thank you and let me just say I can already see some of the people who replied to your thread are some of the major offenders who pretty much dismisses what you say if you point out something, people don’t come here to complain about the game to troll, we come here because we’re passionate about where it’s going. We come here to help make it into the game we were convinced it would be via the sheer number of prelaunch promises in interviews, and the manifesto. If I didn’t care about this game I would not be here I have so many more pressing things to do right now.

I just don’t get how people can be so oblivious like how can these offenders sit there and say something doesn’t happen when it happens to people like me weekly, or that it’s somehow the players’ fault that loot doesn’t drop like it should, that rewards aren’t there with common activities, that combat is as broken as it is in PVE unless you’re Zerker etc etc. Like what goes through these people’s minds do they get into a car wreck and then deny the other car ever hit them? Do they not pay a bill and then deny that collections will ever come after them? Do they accidentally leave the oven on and then deny that their house will burn down? I just don’t understand, there comes a point when reality comes crashing down even in a game and it’s about to hit the 2 year mark, like how long is too long to wait really and why aren’t these people on board?

We knew that we needed to do more for communication. This has only been even more obvious this week. This has nothing to do with PR and everything to do with doing a better job with the connection with the community.

Not to continually jump on you, or anything, but, again; this isn’t the first time you’ve said such things.

So in order to do more than just jump up and down and proclaim “you already said that!” a million times, I’d like to ask a serious question of you, if I might, Chris;

You’ve now stated that you know that better communication is needed, and that it’s even more obvious as of this passing week. So my question is this:

What are you guys going to actually do about it? What is going to occur in order to foster this discourse?

Personally I am looking forward to building a better bridge.

Before one can build a bridge, they must build a solid foundation for said bridge.

We are going to streamline our methods of communication and put more manpower toward communication.

I know I have said that I have wanted a better bridge in the past but I am a developer and I just cannot absolutely commit to 100% CDI/Communication problem solving due to responsibilities elsewhere. Therefore we are as Mo has stated focusing on this from a company perspective now.

Thanks for your feedback.

Chris

Not sure if you noticed this just now but there was a great suggestion by one of the people who replied to this thread, to have an in game short form (500 characters probably max) method of giving you feedback on features. You could use a popdown menu to allow people to choose a category and you could make it a limit to a certain number a week. It would streamline the system give you numbers on the categories people are most asking about and keep the forums for the CDIs where you discuss things with people directly about their class.

I Don't Want to Farm Anymore

I cant believe nobody has suggested adding raids yet.

Is this just a “I wish this was WoW and I could google which boss drops my sword” thread?

100% drop or not? If 100% then what’s the point as everyone would have the item(s) within a week. If not 100% then it would fall under as a grind based in people’s definition.

You just explained why every WoW clone MMO ever has more or less failed commercially.

Farming keeps people playing the game.

Easy drop rates don’t.

Also to anyone who calls this game grindy.

LOL

I suggest some of you go play any of NCsofts other games besides Wildstar.

Aion laughs at what you call grinding.

Okay first of all LOL that’s the funniest thing I’ve read apparently you’ve not seen the large number of grind and loot complaints there in WS main forums. You see they did the same thing Anet did here, limit loot, reduce the amount of currency one gets from normal game activities so guess where everyone is going, away from the WS that’s where. We told them both this would happen. We posted multiple times about the dangers of limiting loot, making this game RNG fest 2000 and making it stingy and here we are. Seriously, surely they can see that it shouldn’t reward 5 silver for finishing a map there has to be a basic entry level of currency and there has to be a basic level of rewards. For example, the champions in this title only drop greens and blues and those chests out there more of the same. It’s pointless. It’s been well established by the psyche community that the majority people play games to feel rewarded properly for their time, if that element is missing then you lose players.

About that blix exploit....

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: tigirius.9014

There are really two sides to this, and when it comes down to it, you are both right – and you are both wrong. Both sides have the right to complete the task that they set out to do (completing or not completing).

Challenging another player’s play style is the issue here, and since this revolved around an event that was designed to be completed, it is being changed so that the original design of the event can be carried out.

When something in the game (such as this event) changes negatively as this has, we need to step in and remediate the toxicity. The byproduct of this change happens to be that a champion farm is being slowed, but since that was the originating factor for the toxicity, it’s unavoidable.

I encourage players to remember that not everyone has the same goals when they play, and sometimes they will clash.

While you are here, you should address the sweeping changes you have made moving the game toward a gold treadmill.

Why is everything being designed in such a way that it highly encourages buying gems and swapping them for gold?

Maybe if you answered that, less people would accuse you of kitten the Pay 2 Win stuff out to people.

There’s a necessary gold treadmill?

. . . when someone can get to crafting exotics of their own for under 20 Gold? When the game throws rares at you for just about every large boss? When I literally have enough Karma that I can do a temple and grab armor which is relatively suitable for my needs?

Sometimes I really wonder if I’m playing the same game as everyone else.

There is for new players and alts especially now with the added cost to traits on top of the problems with nerfs to loot which prevent people from properly farming crafting materials or getting them from salvages. So yeah there kinda is and it’s getting bigger with each “change for the better”.

Running dungeons/WvW/Farming all can make a toxic atmosphere! MMO’s ALL of them have farming that is the nature of all MMO but how we treat each other and how you farm is what makes the difference. GW2 like I posted before have been able to make farming cooperative and fun as a community WE have to root out the toxic players and not accept their hateful behavior.

Actually Farming wouldn’t be necessary had they adopted the much more successful system of actually rewarding normal gameplay. If they did that there would have been no need for farming at all. Some examples including higher gold for achieveing map completion, higher rewards when disassembling items (more materials of a Tier 5 Tier 6 nature), not so much RNG on bags, the ability to buy Tier 6 materials for common currencies outside of gold in the game like Karma for example, the ability to earn these as rewards from dailies, Adding weeklys something people have asked for just after dailies began with appropriate rewards for completing them, adding these rewards in appropriate amounts to monthlies. Instead we have a completely stingy game in which it’s nearly impossible to get anything even if you do farm due to incredibly nasty design flaws like DR (which has had a history of destroying whole gaming companies). It’s really not that difficult to see the facts, the fact is if this game weren’t as stingy as it is in rewards or even gold for that matter, no one would look to exploit it because there would be no need, normal gameplay would give plenty.

Could you name me one MMORPG that’s fully released in which a developer responded or remedied immediately or shortly after receiving a huge wad of complaints on the forums?

Rift

Easily with one of the fastest update times even after going F2P all without gauging the public by limiting loot or causing waves like requiring people buy their store currency for progression. It’s really not that difficult to do honestly it’s been done multiple times Rift is just the most recent.

LMAO. Yes. Rift is amazing. They listened to people and did what they said. And lost a huge percentage of their population after the first expansion.

Maybe they listened to the wrong people.

You mean when they tried to keep the subscription model during the worst time of our economic problems? Yeah that’s not due to design flaws buddy that’s due to the economy. look it up it’s not that hard to do the math and actually see the history behind it. Which btw here’s another bit of history. Since they became F2P guess what they got all those people back. Yep. Have fun rolling around in that truth juice for a while. The fact is they aren’t the only ones. Games in which they have a vision and then keep an open honest conversation going with the community ALWAYS do better than games in which they are quiet and squeamish about saying anything. Always. It’s historic fact. PoE is one of the most recent to adopt this system, guess what, they aren’t crying nor is the game dying they are thriving. So here’s a challenge, name a single game in which they actually had an open conversation going with the community that died directly because they listened to the players and we’re not talking about the niche community now (like Wildstar is doing and is now paying for for being too hardcore) we’re talking about the entire community.

I suppose there are a lot of people who are breathing a sigh of relief that, finally, a Dev has showed up. Hopefully, the changes needed will come to pass.

However, Isaiah, you need to also know that a lot of damage has been done by the 5 months of silence since the April Patch. I’ve made a couple of lengthy posts in this thread regarding my thoughts on that, so I will not reiterate what I wrote. However, I will say that there is a lot of trust to be earned by your players. I’ve heard a rumor that they will be useful in the future, so best to save them, but…how many do I really need to save? Fifty three stacks probably too much, eh?

They could have added an NPC to give gold for it. That would solve people’s tendency to find the need to actually exploit in the game entirely.

Mike, what boggles our minds is, how you say you want to work with the community but you don’t do it. I didn’t read every CDI in its full entirety but did any of the features you “liked” ever see the light of day?
When you ask us for suggestions, we expect you to try and work on these.

People like this are the problem. The fact that you are so self centered that you feel you speak for the whole community says a lot about your misconceptions.

As well, they get tons of extremely varying suggestions at times. Which ones are they supposed to implement, and which ones should they not. What gives one persons suggestion more value?

Prove me wrong.

Also, you’re clearly missing the point. It’s not about favoring a suggestion, it’s about not stagnating and chosing to do nothing instead.
If you really want to argue they didn’t fix the scoring system because they couldn’t decide for about 2 years which fix was the best, you are as naive as ignorant.

I have to agree with them Coglin you can’t fanboy this one away. The fact of the matter is this. Their Feature Pack 2 is addressing 0 of the concerns players have almost unanimously in the forums. It shouldn’t take that long to reach a decision about things the people you’re making the game for are having trouble with. Many of these requests are very simple from a programmers pov, I know I’ve checked. For example, Hobosacks.
