Its ele , Warrior was the highest 15 months ago but meta changed.
I don’t like the playstyle on ele so i still play subpar warrior.
Anything that can escape zergs fast.
Other builds may crush them in duels but its not worth the risk.
The best one is Theif because they can vanish in the stickiest situations.
Engineer have plenty of stealth as well and when built for it more deadly.
The fastest is Warrior gs & s/w but running is all they can do properly.
Most male heavy armors have skirt as well. Not very masculine.
I was using heritage armor since i made my warrior. One of the only ones without skirt.
Then I changed to ascended when it was released.
Assassin → Theif
Paragon → Guardian
Ritualists Had bind rituals and healing
Monks had the best healing capabilities and protection skills
Dervish was kind of a warrior with scythe.
They said there is no healing class so people don’t need to wait around to make a party but you can just take anyone and all professions have ways to heal themselves and deal damage. But they toke away the trinity and replaced it with nothing. So it ended up with pretty much every man for himself. Res the ones that failed to dodge and dps. Also trinity in gw1 was more than just a dps /tank /healer.
Every profession was unique in a specific way.
why it doesn’t work you got less money when you left than when you came.
Pay for mobs to spawn no drops nice design.
I killed all the bosses 1 time and never entered again.
+1 to this tread and answers. I’ve been having trouble with d/d eles with my d/p thief. Haven’t never really played an ele, I forgot about waiting out water attun.
Any more tips on d/d ele would be awesome!
Steal their boons right after their might combo from Fire -> Earth. Then you will get 25 stacks of might and crit them for 14k backstab.
Always use your teleport right after an Updraft knock back (and see that they switch to fire). If you dodge that big burst, the Ele will have to go to defensive mode while you burst them down.
Tbh, Ele is one of the easiest class to beat when you understand their mechanics and limitations. It’s pretty hard for them to workaround their limitations, and you will have the upperhand. The key thing is to steal their boons in Earth, and burst when they have just used their heal in water, or switched out of Water. Dodge the burst in Fire, and range it when they are in Air (so you can watch the RTL and dodge it). Most Ele has a set of rotation between attunement, and you can easily predict which attunement they are going next
Normally Air -> Fire -> Earth -> Water -> repeat.
Oh that sounds like fun ;-)
I should try a Trickery build. Although Acrobatics gives some super-awesome condi control and the Might on dodge is amazing too.
Good to know the common rotation of an ele! (I should really just bite the bullet and play the profession for a bit…)
… Some places they stop attacking completely. On Battle of Kyhlo you can jump out the window and the minnions will actually go downstairs and run all the way around to get you. Then you can go in and they will start walking back so in theory they can never hit you.
There are some slopes where minnions stop attacking as well….Wait, what? OK, I get the Battle of Kyhlo trick, but can you explain the slopes thing a bit more?
Seem to happen randomly i got it sometimes on the treb on battle khylo they just get stuck on the slope there and do nothing. While im fighting alone on the treb they just wait there pretty anoying. However not 100% how you can do that.
There is a fountain close to one of their nodes you can run around it and range the necro minnions cant hit you.
Minnions can’t jump obviously so when fighting mm stand on roofs or crates and kill them with clusterbomb. Bone fiend and blood fiend could still hit you sometimes but they are the weakest.
Depends on their build but if they are hybrid with axe and dagger don’t even try alone he will hard counter you. I got the phantom title…
My best advice is try to avoid the minnions. Some places they stop attacking completely. On Battle of Kyhlo you can jump out the window and the minnions will actually go downstairs and run all the way around to get you. Then you can go in and they will start walking back so in theory they can never hit you.
There are some slopes where minnions stop attacking as well.
Killing the minions then engage is usually not worth the effort. You will have a easier time against the necro yes. But they can take a lot of damage and if you kill them in melee they can blow up if traited for it. the necro can instantly summon the minnions that die so you would have to kill them 2 times. So you’re best option is just to zerg him down. Remember necros are slow they cant escape use that to you’re advantage.
In a teamfight if they are tanky which means they get 40k hp in total with deathshroud the biggest mistake you can do is focus him first (In a teamfight 3v3etc ).
Obviously panda how is this even a question panda was one of the most prestige minis in gw1 dolyaks are everywhere in gw2 there is already a dolyak mini which is better than transforming yourself into one so you can’t even fight.
Just buff their damage so they don’t have to stealth that much and die in 3 hits.
Seriously try actually playing theif in wvw and see for yourself how hard it actually is.
What i liked about gw1 is heroes you knew when you started something you would finish without having to carry the party of bearbow rangers cleric guards condition necros and other bad players. Whenever i get partied with people that is playing nothing but counter productive because they cant dodge i just leave. There is no point in telling them what to do because they play how they want the end.
But this is not gw1 and its not going to be.
There are some good mmos comming this year though.
Im waiting for wildstar or black desert.
I’m sure they will give arenanet competition on this so called wow killer.
They will probably also come with things players want like trading and dueling.
If you played gw1 would know how wrong their manifesto is
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=35BPhT-KI1E
The best part is “More active combat” sure 1 viable build per class 5~ to chose from.
Necros already hit the bleed cap pretty fast torment would be better.
This, except bunkering home all game against one or two far point assaults yeilds a lower personal score, and your own team blames you for the loss.
I think it’s time soloq was matched on experience, not MMR.Anyone who thinks personal score matters in solo arena needs to go back to hot matches. Speaking of hot matches, it’s very easy to learn bad habits and bad strategy playing in it so someone who rank up mostly through hot matches is still going to suck in arena most likely even if they have a decent experience level rank.
I must be the worst player on my team because i have the most score.
This was long ago got a couple ranks since then.
Honestly you don’t just randomly outclass the others in points.
Removed the names so i don’t get banned and i got to 300 in Tpvp a couple of times without treb as well.
But sure some random guy with 100 points must be a better player.
In warrior op in wvw? maybe i find my warrior easier to perform good with than all my other chars i barely even need to weapon swap i can just use hammer.
Theif is defently not OP it has never been so unforgiving i find my self struggle against pretty much everything after the ferocity change. The way theif is designed they have to finish 1 enemy fast because there is not that much sustain outside of stealth.
The longer it takes to kill 1 enemy the more susceptible they are to damage and it doesn’t matter what armor they wear. They just cant take hits like a warrior.
Warrior got a lot more damage nerfs than theif did over the past 2 years but i think the ferocity benefit warriors more than anyone else when not considering conditions builds. I seriously consider stop trying to roam with theif because i would just do so much better on my warrior or even anything else if i just changed their gear.
The easiest to kill is actually guardians because of their lack of mobility and cc.
They can only heal for so much before they eventually die.
Theif is just too unforgiving right now and it seriously need some buffs to be on par with the others. Its actually builds immune to thieves so far i encountered healing rangers and ele and engineers with so much burning and confusion i melt just by going close.
Before the patch i could on average hit 8-9k backstab now 5-6k and that dosen’t sounds like a lot right? well that is going close to full glass which means i die in 3 or 4 autoattacks. With low sustain while you’re foe got a myriads of ways to heal themselves.
RIP Roaming thieves hello bandwagon condition engineers.
The reason why thieves way seem OP to you is because they don’t balance professions in hotjoin they balance them based on Top players in pvp. What is top player i dont know but i would assume rank 70+. Remember that thief is not the only profession with stealth just the one that does it best.
When i soloq the easiest profession to kill is infact theif i can facetank their backstab and kill them in 3 seconds And i am by no means a pro player in pvp.
How does it matter? Servers have always bought guilds to transfer to their server in order to win, how is buying guilds on other servers to attack the third server any different?
In this case its for tourney position, not just gold. It sucks but there’s nothing you can do about it.
Are you serious? so lets say a guild have 50 players and each cost 200g it would be 10,000 gold are people seriously paying them that to transfer to their server?
Hi All,
I just wanted to take the time to make it clear that we are indeed reading all the feedback, not just about Megasverver but in many areas of this forum, others and in game.
As Colin has mentioned in the past Megaserver technology is a multi phase release and we are monitoring\discussing it every day.
We are very focused on a multitude of areas of GW2 including China and excited for our new global community and what lies ahead.
I wanted to say that I agree with the concerns around the post on twitter. I have a very small number of followers and rarely catch up on my account and following a very late night earlier this week caught up on my notifications and replied. I am a strong believer in exposition to all and will be more careful about this moving forward.
Regarding Dev communication on the forums currently, as I said we are very focused on a number of areas currently and are looking forward to being able to turn our attention to healthy discussions with you all soon.
This post is not designed to appease, it is designed to inform so please take it in the spirit in which it was intended.
Chris
Thank you for taking the time to post. I think this is exactly what we needed to hear. You obviously can’t please all the people all the time, or address everyone’s concerns individually, but small communications here and there to know you’re at least looking at our feedback helps.
Good luck with the China release. Launches are madness; try to keep up on your sleep.
Thank you Synk. So far things have been great on the release (fingers crossed) and I am very excited about other areas that we are working on as well.
All round aside from the lack of sleep things are really exciting at the moment.
Chris

I was happy with most of the new patch but this was disappointing.
That’s how thieves defend themselves by avoiding damage.
Shield bash/tremor+ eviscerate or just a couple of attacks and their dead already.
Fighting warriors as a thief is extreme uphill battle.
Most thieves wont even go for you if they have a alternative.
You have 130 range or more to hit the thief don’t stay in the combo field.
This should never have been allowed.
I want to know why this is allowed at all.
It makes no sense that I never see some thieves and then am not able to use any “downed” skills at all to even have a 10% chance of getting up again.
No F2 Ranger pet works, so a pet can’t smell or sense a thief….
Right….. Just… Right….
Congrats dear Ranger.
Guardians, Mesmers, Necromancers and Elementarists can counter a stealth stomp.Thieves are given something that no other character can do, kill without many being able to stop you – unseen.
Let me share you a secret, you need to be at around 120 radius of the target to stomp it.
You “unseen” looks pretty visible to me.But then again, I must be an ESP. I can see invisible stuff.
I don’t ever see a thief anywhere near me when downed or being stomped.
The camera view from downed doesn’t allow the same view as normal so even if you twist around you can’t see the thief and then you are dead without a single downed skill that worked or even had a chance to work.
If you used rapid fire and protect me to finish a downed thief none of his skills had a chance to work either. Most of the time if someone downs you in a fair fight you are dead no matter what. Unless you’re a ranger in drowned state or if you get lucky on mesmer with irogue. The solution to this is to not get downed in the first place.
Why not just let players chose to convert town cloth tonics into outfit for free.
I just don’t see the point if its a full outfit anyway and why can you not even use all you’re skills with tonic? please arenanet turn them into outfits.
Can i get a refund on 70g along with the nerf? the other runes was just 5g so that doesn’t bother me.
I think GearScore would only add to toxic mindsets and behavior. Making it so that nobody will let me in their lvl 45 exp Dungeon group unless I’m 80 with full ascended berserker.
You could just make a new group which doesn’t demand full zerker.
they got a couple of small nudges in the right direction,
but to call them weak is hilarious, they’re still ridiculously low risk + high reward.
when i play my hammer war i constantly see 6k+ crits,
it makes me log off because its such a dirty cheap build.hammer needs a huge damage nerf.
What build is that? i was playing s/m , hammer with soldier stats and i was only critting for 2k with hammer in pvp.
its zerker but still has 21k hp and the hilarious combined passive health regen of adrenal healing, healing signet and dogged march.
So basically full glass cannon because those are viable in pvp…
Try actually fighting competent players. They are viable you just need to
git gud
Seriously though when you run that type of build/role you are usually with at least 1 other person all the time, its a lot more viable in TTPvP than STPvP, but I still mostly play full zerk in solo que, just don’t try to be touchdown travis and run around solo or try to 1v1 bunkers on far.
The biggest problem with zerk shows up in TPvP matches were ppl will inform everyone you have 11k hp, -5 toughness, and die in 2 seconds. From that point on you are going to be targeted the second you pop up, so you really need to play a class with a lot of active mitigation invuln/stealth.
Where did i say anything about other classes? i was talking about hammer warrior.
Still not convinced? then load this build http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vQAQRBIbdG2IDNN12VjbNs3mAkeEN1TP9gbwDnqg7A-T0AA1EOpcy5kxJpTWnGQsgYHyJkZIvQA and go fight any zerk warriors you see.
I made it specifically to counter warriors because conditions couldn’t do anything.
You should be able to deal with other squishy builds as well.

Just remove downed all together it only encourage ressing baddies and upscaled.
When they die they should auto teleported back to spawn so they have to run back.
Just like you would in any other game , “then why dont you play other games?”, i do.
Have you even played the game since beta?
What you describe would be accurate during beta but thieves and guardian is far from elite now. Necromancers and engineers have been good in a long time.
The ferocity change nerfed everything except for conditions.
And yes every profession have some subpar traits or utilities that is never worth taking.
Ranger was actually not that bad until they nerfed shortbow and pet range.
Thief is going the same route as assassin in gw1 where it has no viable builds anymore and even rangers will be picked instead of assassin for speedruns.
It has never been as weak as it is now and the hate is stronger than ever before.
Seems like everyone want to see the class that own them in pvp nerfed rather than buff the one they enjoy playing. This is not a cheap game where everyone is autoattacking eachother to death there are other games for that.
In tpvp try this build, You will be surprised how effective it is
http://en.gw2skills.net/editor/?vQAQRBIbdG2IDNN12VjbNs3mAkeEN1TP9gbwDnqg7A-T0AA1EOpcy5kxJpTWnGQsgYHyJkZIvQA
So you just want highest burst damage? then rifle warrior.
Pre patch you could do close to 30k damage in a maxed build without might stacks.
In wvw, Guardians is important for stability and buffing up before engaging enemy.
Necromancers is important to stay alive in melee with dark fields and stripping boons.
Mesmers is important to confuse enemies with veil and unblockeable ranged attacks.
No matter what you chose you will be useful one way or another play what you like.
Before the april patch, thief was definitely OP.
Those PW thieves were roaming around melting HP bars and stunlocking with two button press while disengaging at will. Now I don’t know how it plays after the patch and if the 1 extra initiative cost on PW makes a real difference, but that nerf was much needed.
Well i was fighting 2 theives and 1 guardian the guardian left when was around 80% hp and i killed both theives toke the orb and scored in spirit watch on my necro.
Guess that answer you’re question. Yes it was solo it was 2 days ago.
You can still get it if you buy guild wars 1 and get 14 hom points.
So you need any campaign + eotn to earn gw2 bonuses its still possible.
You will get you’re money worth more than gems ever would.
Keep in mind though that its a completely different game everything is.
You also probably wont meet as many players but there are henchmens in any towns you can use. Gw1 have the holy trinity and a lot more depth to combat than here.
There should be a free trail so you can find out if you like it or not.
gw1 is a corpg but you should consider it a singleplayer game as not many play it.
When i started playing it in 2006 it was the best game i ever played.
There is still some things i personally think they did better in that game than here.
At least if you are interested in the lore and what happened to the dwarves and so on then its well worth it
This is a thief nerf.
therefor, it should never be implemented without significantly buffing thief survivability options out of stealth. D/P and D/D would become unusable instantly otherwise.
IMO, stealth is not a problem right now.
This is a very misleading. You are asking for thief survivability to be buffed for compensation. But what you don’t realize is that a zerker thief has the highest survivability out of any zerker class, this includes the heavy classes like warrior and guardian as well.
The question is how can that be? Stealth and blinds. Not being hit is the best form of mitigation. If stealth was nerfed the compensation is for thief players to pick up a defensive trinket like cleric, soldier etc if they want to survive. This is what every other class has to do, why should thief be any different?
Ever played warrior? this is zerker stats without any buffs or traits. With 30 in defense and dolyak singet they get 2,8k armor thats almost as much as full bunker on theif.
The theif is the SQUISHIEST profession.
Elementalist at least have access to protection and some strong healing skills.
You know what happens if a theif fail a dodge? he go splat.
there is nothing more risky than going zerk on theif.
I killed lots of theives its all about timing.
You must be one of those who dont even dodge when fighting thieves.
Shortbow 3 is the only reliable way to dodge attacks on land. I tried to time dodge with sword is just horrible. Dagger a little better but still not quite reliable. If they nerf shortbow 3 then wow. Then they seriously need to give them heavy armor and 18k hp.
Its class mechanics its just not balanced in any way or shape if they cant dodge/stealth.
Their quite easy to beat in pvp at least as necromancer.
If its broken in wvw anet dosent give a flying kitten about.
Infact wvw was never meant to be balanced to begin with.
When they balance classes around spvp they will be somewhat balanced everywhere.
Warrior:
GS + axe/mace with 30/x/x/x/20 hurts like a truck in PVE. Nevermind the banners + fury upkeep.
Warriors used to be top notch dps class but that was many months ago.
The only thing making them somewhat useful is that their self buffing is really strong so most of the time they got more might than the others in the party and therefor more dps. In organised groups however warriors are real lacklusters. Lets hope anet does something about that.

I almost never side with thieves, but he’s right. That reveal change would destroy dp and dd.
My solution is to make backstab cost 3-4 initiative. If you spam backstab and miss, you should be punished somehow (but not revealed). Maybe move BS to f2 and then give a stealth auto attack so that the intelligent thieves can still clear blind/aegis at no cost.
the thing about making missed back stabs cost initiative
is it would only hurt in fights where it is thief VS anything in stealth.
the only time a thief will spam the stab in stealth is if they r trying to hit another player in stealth .
just making stealth on stealth fights harder for no reasonNot true at all. Many, many, many times thieves have tried to backstab me while I’m blocking, evading, or dodging. When they miss, they just keep spamming until it lands. They should be punished for that somehow.
If I manage to predict the timing of the backstab and dodge roll, currently the thief loses nothing, but I lose half of my endurance. That makes no sense.
As I said, if an intelligent thief is skilled enough to clear my block using a stealth auto attack, I’m ok with that. It is just the free backstab spamming that needs to be fixed.
If a theif use CnD they have 3 seconds to get behind you and hit you with backstab.
3 seconds if you wait 1 second then dodge they are revealed already.
Also there is no such thing as stealth autoattack. Any attack from stealth reveal them.
It need to stay like that because otherwise it would be way too easy to block every single try with any profession.
This is my favorite build
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vQAQRBIbdG2IDNN12VjbNs3mAkeEN1TP9gbwDnqg7A-T0AA1EOpcy5kxJpTWnGQsgYHyJkZIvQA
Its easy to learn and easy to become decent with.
When mastered you can kill anything.
I retired pvp i reached my personal goal champion phantom.
Stealth isn’t the problem. Stealth is perfectly balanced. I’ll tell you what the real problem is:
They have 10k hp. They need some defense otherwise they will be freekill everywhere.
I don’t think thieves would like if anet suddenly turned them into a warrior that is just worse than everything warriors do.They only have 10k because they can spec glass cannon. That’s a choice. Unlike other classes, there’s no risk speccing glass cannon on a thief.
They have 10k base hp thats my point.
If you ever played a theif in pvp you would know there is a really high risk and barely any reward compared to other classes. Usually they are just roaming from point to point but against engineers and necromancers they pretty much have no chance.
Unless their “pets” bugs and start shooting at walls etc.
If you don’t believe me i suggest you try and see for yourself.

@ OP: Since you asked for advice and didn’t tell us what class you play (even when asked by Splatter Pew), I’ll ask as well, since strategies and advice will vary from class to class.
I’ve been playing ele recently. My ranger is actually the class I have the least trouble with thieves on.
Why ele need nerf.
Deleting my basic transmutation stones because on 15th april they would turn into transmutation charges.
It probably will but if healing signet and pistol whip didn’t get shaved then there would be no need to shave this. Also weakness is like protection for a condi necro.
I knew 3 years before the game was released it had no traditional trinity
But the game was not announced to have 1 viable build full berserker.
there is no tradional trinity in sense that forexample
you need to have 1 preist to heal 1 warrior to tank 1 mage to dps.
There is a soft trinity which is control , dps , support. That any class can do.
But control dosent work with all the defiant stacks and support heal for 5x less than the average damage on mobs in full healing powers.
I just want control and support to actually be relevant not just something to carry bads with but the difference between winning or losing.
traps
problem solved
Pretty much this and not ranger traps, stealth traps.
Use them if everything else fails to get rid of a theif they are the hardcounter.
People saying that thief needs more risk added to them should try playing one.
Couldn’t had said it any better myself. If they mean the ones not even in combat then thats common sense they cant perma stealth while fighting.
If you think thief is risky, you’re playing it wrong.
I beat( not nessesarily kill) most theives in spvp with necro, with fair numbers on both sides ofcourse. the ones that give me the most problems is pistolwhip because of the stun. Most are really squishy and either die or run in a couple seconds.
Hambows and cc engineers however… They are pretty tough to beat.
If a theif stealth and run away so what? then you just won the point.
People saying that thief needs more risk added to them should try playing one.

i have over 1.2k tournament wins on thief.
Then you are a very good player.
But tell me me this if you get revealed with any attack from stealth why even have it?
Any guardian can just use virtue of courage or any theif can just use blinding power or any block etc which will always counter it so then whats the point?
If everyone can counter it
we need torch , dagger, staff!!!
Torch skills offhand 4# Cover gain 10 seconds of stealth
5# shout “Its just a flesh wound” Give 10 seconds of protection to you and allies
Make it happen anet!
