I am in favor of keeping the restrictions. I’ve seen people comparing the beauty of the T2 / T3 armor to the legendary pve’s own. It must be difficult to obtain and not trivialized.

It’s fine for a personal belief in the real world to say “Yeah, there’s only one God because a god must be the creator of all things” and the like. But in a fictional universe, the term of what makes a “god” is ultimately defined by the writer(s), and there are beliefs in the world which would say “you’re too strict on what defines a god”.

And in the matter of story building it is very complicated to put an omnipotent being in the middle, if he is omnipotent has no story to happen, he only does what he wants and end. Snap his fingers and him destroy all the world. The Saint Seya series is an example of overcomplication when making stories with beings who were supposed to be omnipotent, its turns into an Deus ex-machine party.

What is a god?

In every polytheistic belief, “long lived powerful beings capable of creating and reshaping life and landscapes that live in an afterlife world” is the very core definition of what a god is, and the Six Gods fit that definition exactly.

Well I guess it depends on what someone percieves as a god.
For me personally, gods would be: Omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent and creator of all creation. Eternal entities of pure perfection. I don’t think the six gods fit that description.

I’m in no way as versed in the lore as any of you, nor do I know much about theology, so take anything I say with a grain of salt, but as Drax said I think the norn got the right idea. The six gods being spirits that embody a specific concept.

Theyre very near it. Balthazar even weakened, is still absurdly omniscient. He’s already appears knowing about Lazarus, about the white mantle, that the commander killed 2 dragons.

Roaming: Who, what, why, how? #Discussion

You guys can put whatever label or justification you want on it, but chasing down players that don’t want a 1v1 because they aren’t speced for it and u get no reward for it seems like bullying to me. It barely helps out your server and then the rest of the time I see roamers standing around in an open field waiting for people to come along. Seems like they want pvp where they stand little chance of losing.

Also saying that everyone has access to the same builds, while true the difference between a 1v1 build (which might it add uses stats and skills that were deemed op and were balanced out of spvp for that exact reason, or were balanced out because the goal is to hold an objective and not reset a fight a million times at your leisure) vs someone speced for zerg vs zerg, is like someone going up against a hand cannon with a knife.

Roamers are simply seeking unfair matchups and little else.

Bully implies that one side is always weak, which is a risky assertion.

If a player is not spec for 1×1, which he does by walking alone on WvW? Being on the tail is a flaw that many commanders even make big curses when it happens. Being killed by gankers is the consequence of the error.

How would you change the system?

There are two problems with the current system.

1. Relatively low skill cap
When the game launched it was possible for 15 solid players to wipe map blobs because everyone was that bad. Enemy blobs consisted of uplevels, poorly geared players, little to no understanding of builds or game mechanics and mostly inexperienced drivers. It’s basically like Eotm now, but probably worse. This is something that I can’t really blame anet for, because at this point the average pug probably has 1 year of experience and full exotic gear.

2. Power creep
Compared to launch everyone is literally doing 3x as much damage. Seriously, everyone is doing far too much damage, both condi and power, some classes more than others. In particular power rev still does too much damage, condi rev is even worse, zerker warrior also does too much damage, and chill reaper dps is stupidly high. Any random pug that runs the above build poses a serious threat to any guild. The changes to stability and condition caps have magnified this problem.

Some ideas that I had

Massive damage nerfs across the board on all classes.

At this point anet might be better off adding ~1000 armor and 5k health pool to every class and just hit nerf some of the more broken builds. The armor alone should amount to be about 50% more effective health which should prolong fights and allow smaller groups to eventually defeat larger groups.

Reroll stability back to stacking in duration and immunity to cc.
CC is out of control, just look at how much was how much cc we have in this Game. Smaller groups can’t beat those larger groups when they’re getting knocked around like a ping pong ball.

Remove down state completely, or nerf it into the ground
Another post was made about it and I like his explanation for why it can’t exist in the game. His thread is here

Rework+buff to combo fields and mechanics
Bring back timing and skill to large scale fights. Intentionally calling for and blasting fields has long been extinct because other classes can do the job by themselves and far more efficiently. For instance my healing druid/ele can output more on demand healing than any group trying to blast water fields. Greatly reduce the number of combo fields, generously buff all combo finishers, especially the non-blast ones.

Nerf conditions
Condis op and are cheap as hell to when spammed. Conditions should work more like gw1 where they generally reduce sustain and hinder offense.

Poison-Damage does not stack in intensity, but the negative healing modifier does.
Burning-Should do slightly less damage.
Confusion-No longer does damage each second like bleeding. Whenever you do damage, you inflict a portion of that damage around you to your allies.
Bleeding- maybe slightly less damage
Weakness-Just turn it into a flat damage decrease.

LOL, the boring fights of static blobs looking at each other without do nothing, no thanks.

granted Zerg busting is a delirium. Part of the false premise of anyone who walks in Zerg is always low skilled. The most efficient zerg busting is you make your own 50 man group.

I don’t know whether Omadd’s Machine was really destroyed. If not Balthazar must have made off with it because it just disappeared right after the fight with him. The only way Balthazar can take on Kralkatorrik is with Ormadd’s Machine. This is because Balthazar could not and did not take on a Elder Dragon when he was a proper god head. Now he is not even his former self. He is less than he was.

On the other hand if Ormadd’s Machine was really destroyed why would Balthazar go to the Crystal Desert and fight Kralkatorrik knowingly he himself would lose and fed more magic to Kralkatorrik?

There is the Snaff’s Machine. If Balthazar some how known about it and planned to use it on Kralkatorrik then he might stood a chance.

Either way Balthazar intention is to destroy all the Elder Dragons. Why would he change like that? Is it because as a full god head he and other human gods would lose against the Elder Dragons in a fight? However because of the Asuras’ inventions only now this is the only way to kill Elder Dragons? If so what about the Pact killing Zhaitan using another Asura Ray Machine aboard the air ship?

The Elder Dragons are basic elemental beings that transform magic. From human perspective the whole transformation process is gruesome and horrible as it not only involves magic alone but also involves all life and the elements. It is corruption in a way. Human gods are divine and yet they are also beings of magic. I think it is only logical that Elder Dragons can and do transform or corrupt the human gods. If Elder Dragons do, we could speculate whether Abaddon and Balthazar have been similarly transformed or corrupted. Both gods knowing their selves in danger would have used certain artifacts to fight back. Abaddon had tried to use the Bloodstones artifacts of the Seers. Now Balthazar is using asura machines?

Its seems that Balthazar, as a old god, can easily manipulate any form of magic-energy. He just want “release” the dragon energy for his use. The machines are just one of many ways to kill elder dragons. In expansion trailer its seems he will try “brute force” against the Crystal Dragon.

Balthazar also is know for not like to use the same tactic twice.

According to Gixx, the idol was no longer enchanted afterward—the human god of mass murder is not a deity that likes to use the same tactic twice.

Roaming: Who, what, why, how? #Discussion

I actually view roaming as a form of bullying, let me explain. For one it’s not really rewarded with anything significant compared to being in a havoc group or a large zerg. You get low amounts of objective caps and not a ton of kills like you get in zerg, and thus you get low bags and low wxp gain. Therefore it’s not really supported by Anet as being the targeted activity that Anet rewards in wvw.

Second they usually pick players off who are trying to catch up to a havoc or large zerg. Granted, this does have some tactical significance for a server as this slowly reduces the size of the enemy zerg, but unless there are a ton of roamers, (which there usually isn’t because the activity isn’t well rewarded) it’s not enough to really turn the tide for a server unless they are very evenly matched.

Lastly the players who do roam, primarily kill other players who have zerg vs zerg builds which are not designed for 1v1 combat, which of course, the roamers are speced for. Roamers run builds that are heavy with toughness/vitality with tons of leaps and escapes or stealth so they can get in and out of 1v1 combat specifically at will, giving them a huge advantage over other players.

So in summation roaming is an activity that Anet doesn’t really encourages because it’s not very rewarded, roamers even have trouble keeping participation now. Secondly, roamers engage in pvp combat that heavy favors them and their one vs one speced builds, which means it’s almost never a fair fight for those with whom they engage and they usually escape and reset fights when they are put at a disadvantage. And lastly it has minimal impact on the PPT and the server.

So why do roamers engage in pvp that heavily favors them, is low rewarded and has minimal impact to their server? Because they like to bully others.

its the good old Camper Syndrome, which leads in many game that try open “pvp world areas” be empty when that playerbase have all they wish.

In other words, this Syndrome occurs when a game places a big pve prize in an open X area thats is also open to pvp, so come the Uber-Lords of death who do not do anything else then spend all day there killing the poor noobs.

We waited for so long to find out which Elder Dragon we will fight next only for them to change their mind and give up on the unique story it had.

Inst unique, is kinda a cheap copy of Dragon Age Inquisition and others of the genre. The biggest difference for Dragon Age Inquisition is that in the latter, dragons are not global but regional threats, they cause problems near the towns and cities where they settle, not part of the main plot, you can ignore them. Whoever occupies the main plots are super-Machiavellian villains with some ingenious aka Scarlet.

Why did ArenaNet abandon Elder Dragon bosses

Simply put, they realised that the story arch:

- elder dragon appears
- random filler stuff
- elder dragon gets beaten
- start from step 1

gets quite repetative. In fact most of the filler stuff was what was more interesting than the actual fight against the dragons.

Now fill in some tie ins to the way better storylines and lore of Guild Wars 1 and you have a solution how to liven up the series story. Longterm this gives them more flexibility as to how to design the story but will make it harder to keep a congruent narrative.

- elder dragon appears.
- commander unite everyone to fight the dragon(Forming the pact in personal history and the world summit on ls2.).
- pact invades the dragon territory(Orr/Magumma)
- pact gotta problems, and them commander came to rescue.
- commander do a sort of a “raid operation” in the dragons lair heart.
- elder dragon gets beaten.
- start from step 1.

There are many players who are passionate about small scale combat, most who are driven by the hopes that Anet will bring a near perfect balance to their passion. There is no God. Your balance won't happen.

I’ve seen even people suggesting a magic buff that would detect when it was 1 × 50 and give that solitary the strength of 50 men, while weakening the 50’s.

Numbers is part of the strategy if a server / side (ignoring population problems) is failing to send numbers to a battle, obviously it should lose.

I like the territory concept, its used on old rts game like Empire Earth 2. The Glid is just embellishment. ….. The Glid is just an ornament for the player base formed by bouncy and colorful dancers, i despise it.

Fun fact: I suggested territories long, long ago to fix an issue in the game – outmanned. Rather than having global outmanned, it would be local and the map split into like 15 “zones of influence” around objectives. That way 50v50 could fight at bay and not be outmanned, while 5v25 could fight at hills and be outmanned.

Anet done stole my idea! Lol.

And they will be enabled to do a cool looking match history, with log in this style: “battle of xxxterritory 20 × 30 winner: red side; commanders: xxxcommander; casualties: red: 15 dead;”.

It would be a small prize for commanders who do a great job, and I say another option: to download this history, to be saved, this history would be reset every match or skirmish, to avoid problems of performace.

In matter of software performance, will not cost so much, it is totally server side, if they implement the triggers correctly.

If developers take a look at old and new RTS (especially Hearts of Iron 4), they’ll be able to catch lots of cool ideas with low cost performance.

most complaints about condi come from ppl that tried kill big zergs, and gotta plagued. basically they think “im ubberskilled, its not fair a i lose tring against a blob of 50 man, cuz 50 man is a always a no-brainer, my team of 10 man is the best”. …. Numbers still matter, ousides big zergs, i never seem condi being a issue. On 20×20, the most condi-cleanses/supports/guards win over 20 necros/condi spammers….. Condi only become a issue, on tries like 30×50.

Gw2 is by far the best, the only u can play without being tied to a guild.

Just need a more polishment. WvW, UI is still not atractive, and whoever enters the first time has no idea what is happening.

They could steal some little things from RTS games, when a “swords” spawn, can be a voice exclaiming “we are under atack”.

One thing seems to be unanimous. The designers of maps are still, by far, the strongest point of Anet. These guys deserve a toast with good beer. The state of the art HoT maps were bring into Ls3.

ok after rewatching the thing again I admitt that the horns of the first dragon does not go as much in line with balthys helmet as I thought they did.

althought I have managed to get my paint skillz to work so I can at least show the second comparision [although I must admit I have never earlier noticed the spear thingy….]

nothig complicated: is the same horns of regalia. The biggest difference to regalia is the cover that is torn on vid.

The problem is how do PvE players find out this info in-game (not in a raid which not everyone plays):

-Who is the White Mantle?
-Who are the Mursaat?
-Who is Lazarus?
Etc.

By doing lots of online research — the GW1 and GW2 wikis should be of help here.

If the story telling needs you to go and read 10 articles on wiki to get the point of the plot, that story telling is a piece of crap. All the introductions and expositions relevant to the main plot should be available in the game itself, not in an spin-off comic book or wiki.

Agreed. A simples floating “hint baloon” will be enough, others games have some “enciclopaedia” built int. nothing that requires much resources. text is the cheapest resource consume in developing games.

This bizarre eye is one of the few really scary things I saw in Gw2. It was never clear whether he is 1-Creation of the Mursaat 2-A preexisting artifact that the Mursaat seized control.

…. I do not know the lore of Guild Wars 1, what is the gap between the events of Guild Wars 1 and 2? Are they 100, 200 years old? Does this mean that most of the GW1 characters are unknown to the “current generation” and remembered to us as old stories or legends? At the same time, the cinematic was simple enough as to not give us false promises like the teaser for HoT did with its show of a sylvari civil war, of humans assaulting Canach in DR, of Faolain fighting against the Pact as herself. So I rather liked it. It was epic still, but restrained enough that it gave us no wrong impression. It’s message was straightforward: War in Elona.

Do not even think about it, that can bring bad luck….. An epic cinematic about an alleged “civil war” with silvarys, reduced to an event in Verdant Brink with interregatories. The chaks that did not even appear in the trailer had a bigger presence in HoT’s history, than to such a “civil war of the sylvars pact”. If the expansion follows the same path, the scene of pyramids and military hordes in the service of balthazar, it will be only 1 event on 1 map lol lol.

How do I climb out of silver?

Well i got gold t3, trying diferent buids and observing the winning ratio. more tem 5 loses streaks = something wrong in ur build/playstyle. But yeah, in silver the trash random unluck factor(afks, Dc’s, etc) is very bigger.

if u real good, u should try any “carry” build: tankness+mobility. that why i swapped the meta necro to a minion necro.

Silver players almost are very meta depedent, they didnt know how to counter non-meta or hybrid builds. Thats basically why i get out of silver using weird builds than meta builds. Above this level is the ppl that can synergize a build/traits with their playstyle.

I got it with a friend. And I went through the same problem. A entire afternoon trying it, like 20 tries more.

I would give up until a magic idea came up: necromancer minion spam. There came that feeling “why did not I think of that before?”

Also has a semi-safe spot on the right side of the statue a little behind the stones. It does not guarantee 100%, but the orb takes a lot of time to get there.

U go with necro. ur friend must be almost DPS as possible.

I never cared for EotM, but feel for anyone whose preferred game mode is suffering.

Eotm have kinda random population. Theres seasons where is empty, other seasons u get perma zerged by foes when overpopulated servers fall on same color. The Eotm population has never been balanced.

Eotm is fun and relaxing, i can spend the whole day there without noticing time going on.

By the way it will be good opportunity to get some achievs like bridge buster.

I see lots of vets say things like pvers are ruining the game mode. Or players who only want rewards are ruining wvw. Or players who want less grind for rewards are ruining wvw.

In my opinion it’s players who play it to “relax” that water down the content and the experience.

Sry but i do my homework. I have a guard with WvW build, im in some WvW dedicated guilds.

However come to reality, who keep the WvW alive are the ktrainers. As far as the typical “pros” who claim that no one is a “real wvw” are concerned, WvW would limit guild fights that last for a maximum of 3 hours after the reset and spend the rest of the day locked. Ktrainers and pugmanders is who extend the life of the WvW.

to be clear in gunbound if u win a match u eran gold and ‘rank points’. leave a match u lose a fixed amount gold and rank points.

This system will do work fine Gw2. when players wins, they got gold, reward track, pipes and rank point. what they have do, is make leavers lose this, at fixed amount.

in the good old gunbound, a pure match based game, leave are punished in gold. leave, automatically lost gold, and with a some stack system, more leaves, more gold lost. is more effective than a timer-block.

@Ugrakarma: There’s more than one Priestess of Balthazar (just as there is more than one Priest of Balthazar).

Oh yeah but shes the only one using the exact model of the trailer, perhaps shes unnamed, just generic name “pristess of balthazar”.

The other one is on our home instance, “Priestess Anya”, the only one named, when u have a human that choosen balthazar as god. And theres a male on DR, unnamed too, just generic “priest of balthazar”.

The girl, is funny the place shes located is called “Godslost swap”.

The Godslost Swamp is an area of Queensdale, in which the sunken Temple of the Ages resides. It was formerly part of the Black Curtain. Part of the swamp has been overrun with Portals to the Underworld, due to a weakening of the barriers between Tyria and the Mists.

The Temple of the Ages is a point of interest within the Godslost Swamp. Rising up out of the swamp is the partially submerged ruins of a temple. The temple was a sacred location in Kryta where the six Human Gods were worshiped. The temple was destroyed when Orr rose and the resulting tidal wave sunk it. The ruined remains of the statues dedicated to each of the gods remain on the site and still glow with power.

However, the third possibility does lead to an interesting twist… what if the line refers to Kormir, who never left with the Exodus? She did promise that she’d forever watch over Elona, and would not have held the same lesson the other five got during the Exodus while knowing enough to not interfere willy-nilly because of the kitten she caused as a mortal.

Or “them” that messed up Balthazar “light” is Joko, in some way, he gotta control of Orr zombies and his hidden artifacts, perhaps something powerful enough to mess with gods.

So my theory, After Zhaitan defeat, Palawa Joko become some sort of zombie master of former Zhaitan army. The “unlikely allies”, will be former balthazar mercenaries and even the scatered White Mantle.

I’m skeptical, I will not bet on anything epic. “Them” whom balthazar referred to in episode 5 is some entity or “thing” that has managed to manipulate the undeads and are sucking the energy of balthazar through the statues in Orr.
, we will go to orr with his priestess to clean up the mess and calm down the Balthazar. Orr will only be a small instance like Rata Novus.

Greatsword is the best for outnumbered situation on a close fight, and the best against guys that come “necro is easy”, i mean rangers and warriors. The mediocre ranger pets, just become fresh food for GS #1 build soulreaper.

It was supposed to be a normal pvp day, actually as I had gotten all the rewards I wanted, I was just sick of WvW and Pve and so I decided to play some PvP.

Things started bad in the match, we were crushed in the middle, when I respawned and looked at the 45 × 0 score and the enemy team in possession of all 3 points, I thought “just one more match failed”.

For some reason I kept my head cold, there was no flame chat, but the situation was bad, at one point the enemy team was almost 200 points advantage. By an incredible coincidence, my team apparently was in the same vibe, no flame toxicity in the chat. I only suggested to rotate the points, although in vain seen the difference already in the course of 250 points.

We managed to hold the sides, and when the enemy was with 350 points they decided to attack our Lord, we were still with about 100 points, a hopeless situation. Even more considering that it is the gold 3 tier, and it is difficult to reverse situation with the enemy team so solid.

Their attack on the Lord was a failure, they sent 4 of their teams, 3 of us including me Khel the Undead managed to save the Lord. 2 we managed to capture the 3 points in the meantime.

From 150 points we jumped to 200, maneuvering the sides we managed to reach something close to 370 × 420.

A new attack on our Lord, but only with 2 of them, sealed their fate, from 350 we went to 450 × 470, then 480 × 482 and the end we won.

These guys are the coolest heads I’ve ever seen on pvp: Wasabi Nuts, Strauss, You Shall Not Pass, Shimakaze Kun. thank u for a epic match.

The point is that it’s greatly exaggerated, not that it doesn’t exist.

“1 or 2 other legitimate real players in every match” = absurd.

Depends on timezone. At times with fewer players, bots tend to fall on the same team.

Who best noticed the bots are players with long hours of play, especially over the weekend.

The worst day was some Saturday last month, when it was afternoon in my country, I caught several matches with an asura guard bot called “sashimir”.

Decreased a lot after I reached silver t3, and I have not seen any bot in gold tier yet.

Apparently they’re stuck on silver t2 and below that.

How are people denying that bots are a thing?! That’s mind boggling.

It’s painfully obvious who is a bot and who isn’t. Do some googling and you’ll see it exists and it’s readily available to any kitten out there.

I’m sure it exists, but I can’t imagine it’s effective for advancing your rating. I’ve only played in gold tier, and I haven’t seen anything that looked like botting. It sucks that people do this, but shouldn’t the bots make it pretty easy for any player who is actually playing the game to advance past the tiers (bottom of bronze, I assume?) where this is a thing?

inst for rating, but for gold. for gold sellers making gold with zero effort is what attracts these folks.

There is still the possibility that Orr may be just a simple instance like they did with Rata Novus or Tarir-Aurene related stuff, and the actual new map being somewhere else.

And yet there that empty instance of Rat Novus accessible through the Portal in Ember Bay, where it was not clear exactly why they will use it.

Why are Thiefs so toxic for a PvP team?

if 2 thiefs are battle/map aware, is more painful fight a team with them, than fight a heavy tank team. once time in a team with in a team with 2 thiefs and 1 mes, we also managed to win against “your worst nightmare” team: 2 necro, 1 guard, 1 him, 1 warr. ….. i was playing as necro as role of “fireman”, i was going where the fight was hard.

I have encountered one definite bot, but I’ve been on the upper end of Silver/low Gold so I might have run into only one of the outliers who’s getting more wins.

Pretending that there are no bots in this game is bizarre considering that they’ve long been a problem in PvE. They are only new to pvp because the pvp rewards are finally somewhat meaningful even if you’re extremely unsuccessful.

I’ve honestly found it a little weird that a loss is an entire 1/3rd a win; I’m all for participation rewards, but I feel like this discourages taking an active role in trying to win. I feel like 1 pip should be baseline for losing, and it should scale upwards for close wins up to 7 pips for a 450-500. This would mean that anyone playing pvp for the rewards won’t feel discouraged if the enemy has a 200 point lead, because there’s still an incentive to get as many points as possible. There’s no point in struggling hard once it feels like you’ve lost because it’s faster to just lose and queue for the next match than delay the end of the match longer.

Its seems the bot arrays are stuck on silver tier, after i reached gold, never seems the Sashimir gang anymore, luckily. Sorry for T1, T2 Silver legit players, but they will have a painful pass, getting one Afk in team is almost “new normal”.
