Anyone else having this problem?

Oh yeah——————the “standard” for GW2 —-————-“Invalid Authorization” with nothing but a blank screen. This issue has existed since Day 1———-but “apparently”, it’s “not important enough” to fix for ANET———they’d rather issue “buggy” add-ons and “special events” than to actually “fix” the existing product.
(NO apologies for this rant———this issue has been going on for so long that my “disappointment” is quickly turning to “disgust” with this half-baked product. So much so, that I doubt if Terminix could help!)~~~~

Soft kitten, warm kitten, purr, purr, purrr.

Even more so if you imagine it being sung by George Fisher of Cannibal Corpse.

Is that the “Band of Orr?” And, are they “trolling minstrels” or do they work from the “pit”??

What's the deal with Orr?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

undouble.1472

I think a bunch of zombies standing around in Orr makes sense, personally. It is their home territory, and they are a legion of the shambling undead.

Zombies standing around might make sense (depending on the ecology), but would they stand around in a grid-like pattern? That seems unlikely as nothing in our universe does so. Matter tends to clump together. Living things also tend to group together. And while I know this is fantasy, for the most part Tyria obeys the laws of our universe (it appears to have the same 4 fundamental forces, gravity, electromagnetism, weak and strong nuclear forces), magic not withstanding.

Foreplayz (troll), this is not the suggestion forum. If I was offering a solution, I would have posted the topic there. Instead, I am merely interested in discussing the matter.

Please to remember, you’re talking about the “living” universe————-which Orr doesn’t inhabit!!!! These are, after all, home to the “legions of undead”!!

All drops are random, and may or may not contain “usable” items for a specific character. But so what. Unless you’re only running (1) character, you can stash them as “christmas presents” (oh, boy, just what I needed “a better-rated” (armor/weapon/ring/etc) than I could find on my own) for another. (Or sell them and keep the gold).

Orr is dead

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: undouble.1472

undouble.1472

I suspect a part of the perceived “empty” area issue is that there is no “real” starting point in any area where “safe” congregation is possible. All of the entry points to/from an area are “combat-rich” environments themselves———-including, in most cases, the waypoints (which have to be “found” first to be of use). If you look at GW1, most of the combat areas are separated by (at worst) neutral towns, points where congregations was possible. In GW2, even the towns themselves are “under siege”, and do not provide even the “illusion” of safety.

undouble.1472

No arguement here. Res times measured in pico-seconds is laughable!!! I’m still wondering “how many times do I have to kill this ghost before it knows it’s dead?”

Just adding to my previous comment———the Troll cave vista (Human’s Lament) in Old Ashford is guarded by (2) Veteran and 3-4 regular Trolls. By the time you’ve “killed” the first (2) (a Veteran and a regular), and move against the next—you’ve already got at least (1) of the originals climbing up your back————it makes even reaching the vista a highly improbable result for a soloist. The same holds true for the Ascalonian ghosts at the nearby Skill Challenge. The Veteran guard at the point is tough enough without having your back exposed immediately on engaging it.

Toypocalypse... a flop?

undouble.1472

I haven’t tried “toypoclypse” yet (I probably will), but what I note in these comments is the “apparent” inability of random groups to “play in the same sandbox”. Now the question HAS to be asked, is this a “problem” for the game———————or a “problem” for the “supposed” players?? Or both??
If it’s a “game problem” then ANET should be taken to task———————but if it’s a “player” problem then maybe we should all take a step back and look at what WE, as players, need to do in this type situation.

I see this same “type” issue constantly in PvE, where players “jump in” to “help” but don’t stop to ask WHERE their help is needed————-they are just another “random” factor——————(and yes, I’m as guilty of this as anyone).

static game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: undouble.1472

undouble.1472

IMO, this game, unlike GW1, is too static. I like the idea of “single profession”, but there is NO room for character growth. for each classs, there are a LIMITED number of skills, a LIMITED number of “trait points”, and becuse of these limitations, character “stagnation” results.
In GW1, regardless of your character “class”, whether primary or secondary, there was a CONTINUAL ability to “learn more”, “grow more”, “become more”————since you COULD, in theory, learn and use EVERY skill from EVERY class———both standard AND “elite” (yes, my GW1 characters DID learn EVERY available elite skill, but still have a LOOOOONG way to go to learn EVERY skill).
There is NO such “goal” available in GW2—————-every skill is already available, just requiring weapons use to “learn”, or “skill points” to add.
If your character can’t “grow”, can’t become “better”, can’t “learn” anything new, then why bother playing it??
As a suggestion, once a character reaches level 80, allow that character to “learn” new skills (unavailable to “lesser mortals”) and/or add additional “trait” points (over and above the current 70).
None of these additives should be cheap, or easily acquired. A combination of a trainer, a tome, and a substantial amount of both GOLD (not Silver or Copper), and skill points should be required. (Something on the order of 10 GOLD and 100 skill points per trait point is probably the LOWEST cost conceivable). Any “new” skills to be learned would have a MUCH higher cost in both Gold, Skill, and KARMA. Of course, it is expected that these increases would also be “balanced” to play, so that these additions aren’t “godlike” in their effects.
Allowing for “character growth” in this manner MAY assist in keeping interest in higher level characters alive for a lot longer.

As always, comments are welcome and I hope ANET is reading them!!

Reworking of waypoint costs

in Suggestions

Posted by: undouble.1472

undouble.1472

What about—————————-
Waypoint cost within any zone —-- free (or some standard cost- like 5c)

Moving FROM a zone to another———————scaled at the 2x the the difference between the HIGHEST and LOWEST level value (whether you use waypoints or just run, the transit cost is the same)
example- going to/from Queensdale to Lost Shores would cost 1s30c (2x( L80-L15)

Asuran “gates” have a standard cost per use in either direction (you don’t REALLY think the Asuran’s do ANYTHING for free now, do you??) maybe 1s

And main cities to/from anywhere cost is 2x level value of area (since main cities are (0) level areas (Rata Sum, The Grove, Hoelbeck, Divinity’s Edge, Black Citadel, LA)

This removes the need for “scaling” (which is ridiculous on it’s face—even the Asura ain’t that greedy/stupid)!!——well, maybe some of them!!

None of them is extremely attractive. Unlike GW1, Anet ran these entry’s as a :

At least the Sylvari entry occurred in a confined, and well-defined, setting. For the rest, you’re just dumped in the world———and good luck!

Have to buy bag slots for every toon?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Or, just MAKE them yourself!!! Many crafts create boxes/bags for use. I had my Charr warrior make “safe boxes” and “normal” bronze boxes for ALL of my characters. If I decide to delete any of them, the boxes can be re-used (or sold for gold). It’s a great step up from the (useless) 4-slot bags you start with!!
Bank space is the best way to keep things that “might” be useful later (or by another character)———-and it’ll never disappear! (probably)

undouble.1472

I agree that underwater “fights” are pathetic!! The shark attacks, takes damage, and turns away—————now it’s invulnerable and you ain’t!! When it recovers full health, it attacks again, takes damage, etc)——-All this time, YOU are getting hurt and NOT “recovering” (due to cool-down) so eventually, you die!! It’s even worse with A barracuda——because very shortly, you’re fighting 4 (or more) of the pests!!
Another issue is that underwater weapons are NOT geared for melee—-the preferred fighting style of all underwater denizens!! Tough to fight with a weapon whose barrel is longer than the foe!!

I suspect that the ease of party formation in WvW is one reason————-another is the “play” issues in PvE that AN has yet to address. Lot’s of good concepts———far too much “bad” (or at least incomplete) implementation. Right now, PvE “seems” too often to be a case of “how fast can I die” and not “how do I do———-”.

To clarify, regardless of how controls are set, my character(s) can be walking through an area, WITHOUT ANY TARGETING on my part, when the AI will suddenly start attacking a “yellow-ringed” critter that just happened to wander into aggro range———surprise!!!————-the other amazing thing is——————-all!! of these “critters” drop LOOT!!!! (usually junk, but an occasional pebble or weapon). This only occurs when the character is wielding a RANGED weapon, so movement doesn’t necessarily cease-sometimes resulting in aggroing a “really” dangerous foe that the AI ignores while it “butchers” the doe, (or the moa, boar, stag, etc).

This is an issue even for low-level characters. For example, the “troll cave” in Plains of Ashford. Having to fight (1) Veteran troll solo is bad enough——-having to fight (2) of them, with the ultra-fast res time the trolls have, is impossible SOLO. Add the dearth of players in any given area, and AN has a “problem”. Like most of us, I’m not interested in playing “how quick can I die”!!

These are my PERSONAL observations about GW2—- for what they’re worth:

Races: I love the Charr and the Asura— nice job on these——————Humans?? not a lot can go wrong, go wrong, go wrong!!! Very disappointing———-Sylvari——-so much COULD have been done to make them a stand-out creation————but humans in green?? c’mon!!! And the Norn—————they AIN’T “human” so why make them so—with little but a size difference to distinguish them!!

Classes – so far, my only complaint is that the “engineer” is underpowered, underarmed (lacks deodorant, too), and swims even worse!! This class REALLY needs work!!

Game Play — I cannot BEGIN to describe my anger and dismay when I “can’t control” what and when my characters attack. And it DOESN"T MATTER how my controls are set-——— the AI “decides” (apparently at random) that THAT rabbit, rat, moa, boar, doe, stag, etc.— is the threat and launches the attack——————all the while ignoring the cave bat, bear, wurm, etc that’s extremely busy having me for lunch!!! This issue MUST be resolved because it’s NOT “good gameplay”, it’s NOT comprehensible and it’s “seemingly” COMPLETELY random in nature.
My only other “peeve” is the “group” mentality for achievements, especially at the higher levels. It’s very disappointing to decide to try to complete an action in Rin (for example) only to find that no-one else is anywhere close (or even in the area). Since this game is, in my opinion, predicated on “random” groupings of players, the lack of any realistic “organizing site” is a detriment, and not an asset for game play.

Overall The work that went into designing this world, it’s tests and achievements, and the visual impact of the graphics and group actions is awesome. The variety of challenges (PvE, PvP, Fractals, Dungeons, Areas, “Stories” (which COULD be improved) is FANTASTIC!!

When you pull up the game map the numbers shown are:
Hearts=301
Waypoints=507
POI= 719
Skill Challenges=202
Vistas=266

However————————-if you spreadsheet EACH area’s totals you get the following:

Hearts = 301
Waypoints=482 diff=-25
POI= 642 diff= -77
Skill Challenges=189 diff -13
Vistas=226 diff= -40
All told, I wouldn’t rely on the NUMBERS shown on the game map-- I’d rely on each areas summary to determine what’s missing/needed and already accomplished.

And, no, I have no idea where the “Missing” sites are.

ELE switching attunement auto attacking

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: undouble.1472

undouble.1472

This problem is old as the game itself (turning off the autotergetting is a way, but has it´s downsides, f.e. try to manually target mobs in events/dungeons over and over, this will take a huge portion of fun from the game Also if you have something targetted, it will still autoattack if you switch to Air attunement – I think that only this switch is bugged, along with some abilities like arcane wave, and if I´m not mistaken even the Thief traps )
These kind of bugs should be fixed a long time ago, I still wonder how it is possible that these still persists

Because, in designing GW2, ANET decided to “re-invent the wheel” from the ground up. This “problem” doesn’t seem to exist in GW1 (of course, MANY of the problems (bugs) in GW2 were already fixed in GW1). At this point, I’m beginning to believe that ANET is the epitomy of the definition of insanity:

— “When one tries the SAME process/procedure/action multiple times expecting a different result”—

- Fire 15 (Inflict damage at your location when you attune to fire.)
- Earth 15 (Damage foes and cripple them for 3 seconds when attuning to earth.)

That’s true———-but the bug is NOT in “changing attunments” (although that IS a cause for these “attacks”), but in the AI’s categorizing of "everything that’s not ‘green’ is a TARGET when the character has a RANGED weapon “in hand” (active).

Switch off auto-targeting in the options menu to get rid of this problem.

That doesn’t work—————the AI "apparently believes that ANYTHING that moves inside engagement range is a “target”. The “nice” thing about this is that it’s only in effect IF the character has a “ranged” weapon “active”. If my ele is using daggers, then “no problem”!!
