But what about next week, or the rest of us this week? JQ dominated its bracket this week, and that discouraged the other worlds from playing, which discourages JQ from playing, so theres no real competition going on. There has to be some change to incentitvize WvW when the match is already lost.

A 3/4 week period seems reasonable to me. Reset on fridays and Mondays.

The problem with 1 week matches if the rolling score of course. Once a team builds a lead, theres no way for other worlds to come back, making WvW less popular till the reset. Something needs to change to encourage playing till the end. Theres all sort of solutions to this that have been posted. The match time is moot.

Heres what you do. Farm orichalcum, trade for vanilla. Theres a million players out there picking up every farm node they see, thus providing vanilla supply. Farming everything yourself is simply not efficient on cook.

I use condition damage and bleed duration, with dual swords (carrion), and all my traits set to help bleed. Then for utility, i have various things to immoblize others, build adreneline, and break stuns and block damage. I also use the elite staff skill for support, and a horn/sword combo as swap wep, for support.

I find I do very well, 1v1 or in a mob. I can get a lot of bleeds off in a short amount of time, leap at foes, slow them down, and then even if I die (often), so do they because theyre bleeding 1000dmg per sec. And then someone rezes me. Im simply not the leading charge. I run around in the middle or rear flank picking off side people or helping others.

Its really funny to be killed, and then rally because my bleeds take them down. Or we both die.

Yeah, I mean, i just click until i get something. It tells you what you can start with and greys out things you cant use. Its easy mode.

I doubt AN intends for enemy players to be able to camp out IN your safe zone. Thus its an exploit. No doubt they will fix it and punish people who took advantage. USe at your own risk.

Blame AN for putting PVE content in a PVP zone, then limiting population. PVE people are encouraged to not PVP and take up slots.

In RL, you can kill spies. In GW2, they just become ghosts or invulnerable clones.

Im on JQ and do plenty of WvW. I dont have a problem with alliances. Its just smart. What I find odd is how we are number three. Does that mean the other servers are even worse?

My only feedback would be that it kind of took the discovery out of discovery. It was already pretty formulaic (and of course there are dbs which take the mystery out of it), but now it just puts everything in and you just click things till you get something. Will we have a ‘autodiscover’ button next which shows you a list of things you can discover?

Also the waypoint is wrong, at least from Lions Arch. It says to go to vigil keep in Gendarren, then up the tower to the portal, but the guard says "under construction’. So you have to port somewhere else.

The eventual plan is for matches to be 2 weeks. This would make at least the first week and a half pointless.

True, a 2 week period might be a bit too long for this particular plan. It doesnt have to be 2 weeks though. And theres always the world bonuses to fight over in the meantime.

As I said, Tennis generally is designed to keep a player never being too far away from evening the score.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but then it would be possible for Server A to be ahead most of the match-up time period with 750 points, only to lose to Server B in the final hour because they manage to sweep the map and get 751 points?

I’m not sure I follow.

On second thought…
The benefits a server gets from WvW leading is NOT from the final score. If a point system described by the OP was in place, then in order for a server to maintain all the perks they earned from the late night capping, the server would need to continue the domination.

During the peak hours, the perk advantage would quickly shift to the server who is most effective at that time.

The issue is the whole “Your Server won or lost” message. We would have to redefine what it means to win or lose.

Perhaps the percentage of the time a Server is in the lead sort of thing.

Yes, a server could swoop in at the last minutes and win by dominating a majority of the points. But right now they simply do that at the beginning and off peak thus making the rest of the period pointless as you can never get enough points back.

To use a metaphor, the current method is like american football, in that a team can build up an insurmountable lead. Where as a fixed score is more like Tennis, in that it only matters who scores the final point and youre only ever one set from getting back to even. Except that we have world bonuses, xp, pve, and just fun derived from constant leads to make it worth playing till the end. By putting the reset during peak time you ensure the most important part of the fighting will be done while the most people are on.

There are some good suggestions in the night caping thread, so I through Id split one off so as not to lose it. What do you all think of a scoring system that had a fixed total score rather than an increasing score?

What I mean is rather than keep adding points to whoever controls bases, make each base worth a number of fixed points and trade the points between teams. Such that the most points any team can have is lets say 1000. If you control everything you have 1000 points. If you control nothing you have 0, if you control some things you may have 250 or 500 or whatever. Whoever has the most points (and thus controls the most bases) at reset would be the winner.

This means night capping wouldnt have a long term effect. As soon as peak time came up again, everyone would fight to control a majority of bases. Fighting would naturally be heaviest right before reset (end of peak time ideally) and to avoid dead times right after reset, you still have the incentive of the world bonuses.

But you can port to LA, then take free portal to DR, then free waypoint around DR. Hopefully the Devs will eventually just let us pickup items from TP interface and not have to actually go to the TP. Or better yet, when you click BUY, it teleports into your inventory.

Its not a free market by any stretch. There is a virtually infinite supply with limited demand, no depreciation, and NPCs who have unlimited funds with no work. There is an artificial bottom price to goods. The rare and exotic market is the only place where prices more match free market principles because demand outstrips supply.

The solution would be to stop dropping so many items, put resources in more difficult locations and focus on quality not quantity. And remove vendors. Such that everything requires work, and thus adds value to get.
