Map difficulty and complexity is simply unsustainable in the xpac over the long run. No one with right mind will keep rallying pact control points or grind hero points on all 9 classes the way this game stands today. Other than grinding xp for mastery/leveling, the zones actually have no purpose.

1. Maps are very complex and not noob friendly – It may sound appealing on paper but, in reality it hurts big time. SW and Dry top worked because they are noob friendly – simple tasks, simple routine with some twists for some things extra have more mass appeal in game than extremely hard, “anti-casual” content.

2. Map is not solo friendly except for zerging. Soloing has no place in the map at all. Hero points are not soloable in most cases. So, why call them hero point? Call them something else to signify a team effort… Heroes’ Challenge?

3. Map is not even team friendly as almost every single thing requires varying degree of complexity (gliding, bouncing etc.). Teleport to friend and xp scrolls seem to be the driving factor here.

So, the question that must be answered here – what exactly is the hook to have people go thru this extreme level of zerging every day for decent forseeable future? I just don’t understand that after playing 2 maps. Its kinda funny when you see how people are going nuts trying to get to lvl 2 of mastery point.

Honestly, if you gotta copy Blizz (paragon farm) or NCSoft’s Korean Grinders then do it right. If your goal is to create psudo level, pseudo gated content then break up each mastery into multiple layers so that ppl hear multiple dings a day and feel great while progressing exactly the same kittenty amount they’d do today.

You are trying to be honest. Hence you are exposing the grind that creating mass discontent. If you truly want to be different, get the kitten away from making grindy kitten or accept the fact that MMOs need grind, whether its levels or gears, and join the long gray line of every other MMO maker.

End of the day, credit must be given where credit’s due. Art direction. The entire landscape is a piece of art. Love the details on the stairways, branches. Simply unbelievable attention to details. What talent! Many thanks.

But, will you please reconsider unlocking equivalent amount of masteries experience for central tyria for ppl who already have mastery points available? That means if someone has 1 mastery point for Tyria. let that person have 1 level to train on any line. rest let him/her grind it.

Fir example, I have 56 mastery points. And that’s 3 years of playing. Now, you are asking me to replay the same content to use these mastery points. Ain’t that plain ridiculous?

Guild Wars 2: Grind of Thorns?

I enjoy reading the articles posted on the front pages. But, I really got totally lost in the description of what a player needs to do to obtain a legendary weapon in HoT. Not only it seems convoluted as described in words (maybe a small VISIO diagram would have helped), it also seemed that the main objective of the designers was to slow down players from obtaining these desired items rather than to create a satisfying feeling of achievement.

I honestly believe the entire mastery system is a layer of grind and on top of that grind, now we have map and fractal grind, and on top of that WvW grind, and it does not end there, sPvP grind for shards of glory.

My simple question to ANET, why are you trying to create a grindfest in a game that simply does not need one? Why are you trying to do that every other MMO ends up doing — adding layers of grind to create pseudo-content?

Before we get the first post discrediting this OP by usual argument about working hard, casual player, blah blah bullkitten, screenshot attached to counter some of the usual nonsense. Yes. I played this game. A lot. And still do.

To reduce support tickets, please do the following:

1. Indicate on the store what items the account already has unlocked.
— For example, if the account unlocked Phoenix Light Armor – On the tooltip show in red, this skin is already unlocked and disable the purchase button/gem button
2. Do not offer bank tab expansion if account has max bank tabs.

Any remotest, faintest, slightest possibility of it showing up as an item that I can purchase during this anniversary sale?

It’d have been perfectly OK not to give any of these new elite specializations any name. In fact, it’d be wise not to have names for the specializations for the long term.

You and I must be playing different games then. First off, if a group is looking for Meta oriented setup, don’t join that group. Second, if you want to run fractals, what is preventing you to start a group, roll swamp solo and wait for people to join? Fractals need a Guard, PS/EA warrior and Ele to make runs go easy. No harm in playing another toon other than ranger if you like to run a particular content that disfavors ranger.

I am in a guild that runs fractals. But, every single night I run fractals with PuGs and sometimes with a guildie or two. Simple reason is that I enjoy the “you never know” experiences with PuGs, aka randomness. And, to be honest, whatever tricks of the trade I learnt in the game, I learnt from Pugging. That said, it seems to me you ran fractals not for getting the rewards fractals contain but, to finish a separate objective (Mawdrey) where fractal was just a hurdle to cross. I can relate to this issue because you are trying to maximize the tokens and running a 50 or a 40 with PuGs who simply did not want to include your ranger. In situations like this, always start your own groups. In fact, always start your own groups. Be polite to others and try to have fun.

EDIT: I do 50, 40 and 30 every night (8 – 8:30 pm EST) and if you are properly traited and geared for these levels, look me up in game, I will include you in my group.

This suggestion resonates with me as I also lost a few people in my gaming life. Also, a successful guild and a gaming community thrives because of relentless effort of some people. Being able to honor and remember them in game inside a community/guild hall will be plain awesome. This will also be inspirational to other people who may want to step up to take charge and create something beautiful and worthwhile.

Let’s have nicknames for our toons that will be visible only to us. If I want to call my curvy female ranger Legolas or burly norn guard Gimli, so be it. No one else needs to see it but, I will have an option to display my nickname on the character select and profile screens where the names actually matter. Other places and other people really don’t give much of a kitten about what my name is as long as they know who is not kittening it up for them, eg, casting moa on a mob inside dungeon.

@OP – Please do not join a group and expect the person who took the trouble to create the LFG post need to adhere by your personal inclinations. There are many reasons for that starting with reason #1, politeness/courtesy.

If the LFG ad is looking for meta and you do not like to play meta, don’t join the group. If LFG ad is asking for gear check and you don’t like that to happen, don’t join that group. As many suggested start your own group so that you can play the way you want.

The real issue of this kinda of LF L80 zerk or gear checks lie elsewhere. Many times people put up this type of request to get people who are geared. A player fully geared w/ messed up traitlines or not knowing DPS rotations or not knowing the fights is totally useless and counter-productive to the intent of this type of recruitment policies.

Since ANET can’t prevent people from selling FoTM last boss via LFG because of numerous valid reasons, this is a request to the community to take action for healthy Pugging.

There are multiple instances where several folks kick a person out of the group and promptly sell it for 15-20g. It is stupid to buy into FoTM as the reward is not a guarantee but, the real problem is that there is no way to prevent a team from kicking someone and selling for profit.

When anyone sees an advertisement to sell last boss of FoTM, please join this group and keep abandoning them till they give up and try to recruit a proper team member to complete the instance or 4 man it themselves.

What do you guys use on your PvE Warriors?

ANET can’t move away from zerker meta without providing both suitable and viable alternatives for people who invested a LOT in upgrading their gear to Zojja’s. I am sure the folks at ANET realize this as well and so, with this update, we have gear exchange program. It’s a good starting point. But, still this process removes the costly and time consuming upgrades during exchange. For example, warrior in fully ascended armor with strength rune. 72g will go down the toilet as soon as exchange is made to another type. Prior to 6/23, it’d be upwards of 300g. For some, 72g means barely 5 days of farming, and for a few others, it may even be a day of TP flipping, but, for majority of semi-hardcore/casual playerbase, aka most of us, it will be days of gold grinding before that kind of money can be recouped.

Beyond this obvious issue of cost, min-maxer will always, I repeat always, come up with 1 combination of gear set regardless of what ANET does. It may end up being 2 pieces of zerker, 1 sinsister, 1 giver, 1 apo, 1 sins etc. etc. to fill up all the slots to find the optimum balance for most of the content. And, believe me, many of us will copy that build and follow, thereby moving from zerker meta to another ‘combo’ meta.

Even if ANET forces content upon us that will make us switch our playstyle, armor choices based on the zone, gameplay type, the problem will always remain. No one in the right mind will carry 10 different gearset to conquer the world. Its unrealistic even in fantasy world. <lol>

One option ANET can explore is to allow stat changes on gear out of combat. For that they need to move the money exchanges and sinks out of gear system and move to something else to keep economy afloat. That means aligning PvE more towards PvP gear setup. It’s a lot of work and probably will kill rune and sigil market like it killed inscription market in GW1 when ANET made a similar change.

of fun before some genius figures out a “cool” build that will be the “meta” build that others will copy and then the community as a whole pursue. This period of not knowing is the real fun time. So, thanks for that.

I found that map extremely boring in 5v5 format. This map begs to be 8v8.

What I find disturbing and weird is when I see the body is kinda sliced at the torso when I put on certain armors like embroidered leggings. It’s really creepy.

Other than a few all the skins that I have through my champion of the gods title have vanished from my wardrobe. I opened a ticket regarding this last week. Why did this happen? As a proof, I attached screenie of my title page. Please look into it and unlock the skins in my wardrobe if the skin vendor is still disabled in Hall of monuments.

Where is the damage to kill a dragon? Wait… are we talking about zhaitanesque fights? A Guardian can take on GW1 paragon abilities seamlessly as it is the most aligned class to GW1 Paragon. Why not just call it a paragon as it is indeed a Paragon 2.0? And if it tickles some folks in wrong places, just call it Geronimo and call it a day. I do want “Wings of Resolve” activation makes my guardian yell “Geronimo” so that Engineers in my group can go “Bombs Away!”

Unlearning skills/traits to use the new system sounds more like ill-conceived implementation of a poorly thought design.

I do not believe you will unlearn skills. It will be a monumental task for ANET that does nothing but, adds to player frustration. They may simply disable the hero points accumulation for the players who already have all the skillpoints necessary. UW and FoW can’t come back till Dragons are defeated.

But, there is nothing (other than will and monetary resources) preventing ANET to design areas like those. In fact, they have. Ruins of Arah, I am looking at you. I can feel nostalgic and trash this new dungeon, but, FoW speedruns like Arah skips and solos were quite in vogue during GW1 haydays. I, personally, have done FoW full runs in less than 25 minutes countless times to get that kitten perfect obsidian edge.

We really need to look at what we have and enjoy it while we still can. Who knows when GW3 launches, every one will want to play in Ruins of Arah. LFG, I am looking at you.

I read that and I wondered if these crafting material that will end up being used towards completing the collections for legendaries? Or will it be bunch of random potent venom sacs and the likes?

EDIT: I think if I understand the blogger’s english, he meant skill points will get converted into something like “mystic points/material” that we will be able to purchase the stuff we currently purchase from Miyani. So, in essence, if I want to get 10 philosopher stones, I will have to spend 1 mystic point/material to get them. This essentially helps ANET get rid of the skill points. There maybe 1 to 1 conversion ratio between skill point and mystic point/material but, the conversion ratio maybe different for tomes of knowledge. Well, that’s what i think.

I had incredible skill lag on and often in various zones, populated and desolate. around 9:45 pm EST last night. Then it was so awful that it was taking almost 2 minutes to log in and after that I could not log in at all. It’s not happening today for me now. But, its off hours in NA.

I think they messed up compatibility of CoherentUI_Host.exe w/ 64bit system.

Can anyone from Tech support shed some light as to why I can’t play this game from its usual C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2 folder since yesterday afternoon?

I fixed the issue w/ this workaround:

1. Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder, which by default should be C:\Program Files(x86)\Guild Wars 2.

2. Move this folder to a new location like C:\Games\Guild Wars 2. The location doesn’t matter specifically, as long as it’s outside of Program Files and Program Files(x86).

3. Navigate to this new location and “Right-click” on “GW2.exe” selecting “Create Shortcut.”

4. Rename this shortcut to “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode.”

5. “Right-click” on “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and select “Properties.”

6. Click the “Compatibility” tab.

7. Checkmark “Run this program as an Administrator.”

8. Click “Ok.”

Once completed, please double click “Guild Wars 2 Admin Mode” and try playing Guild Wars 2 again.

tl:dr: Can’t run as administrator from C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2 folder for some reason. but, works when you move the game folder out. Maybe some compatibility issue.
