Win rate is absolutely dependent on when you started playing your first match in league this time. If you started a few hours after league started or a day after, climbing pips is very easy. you will be tied to higher mmr players for at least a few matches in the beginning. after emerald 4, it will be a bit hard if you keep going. if you take it slow and have a good partner to duo with, you will be all set.
It’s beyond absurd at this point.
I’m up to 22-0 now solo queueing. Playing with and against ESL players now.
If a solo player is losing all his games, there’s bound to be some one who’s winning all of his.
Players are more susceptible to rage on forums if they’re irate. Only Anet knows player performances in the new League system. I imagine it’s a 50/50 ratio among solo players while Teams are a bit more linear (and rewarding).
In your list, there is not one single match that is competitive by wildest imagination. At least last season, matches were challenging. This season, most matches are decided in first 30 seconds.
The big problem in this game for me is that there is literally nothing to do other than daily. I enjoy PvP but, wining 500-100 or losing 100-500 is pretty lame. I mean, what’s the objective here? Fastest way to get the glider? Fastest way to reach div 6? Fastest way to get a title?
Anyhow, I am not enjoying this season at all. I was looking forward to it but, playing it was plain unfun. At least some people are having fun w/ easy MMR ride for now.
Only ever had one or two games out of plenty that were close enough to know it came down to organization. The rest was either roll or be rolled.
I have exactly same experience. For me, only one match that I lost was 400+ vs 500. Rest were 200 or below. Matches that I won were beyond lame. Have to say I lucked out on those.

Evan Lesh is pretty good in writing stuff. Knowing how much programmers love to document, I bet he is an exception and a good one.
yes i think this game is perfectly blanced and the matchmaking is soo much fun, i can barely keep my self from playing
Just looking at that screenshot, I can feel the excitement that you have to jump into the next match.
ANET did it good this time.
Because everyone (bad/average/good players) are in same bracket atm. Wait couple days and good players will move to upper divisions and you will stop facing them.
That logic is great on paper but, absolute trash in reality.
In “a few days” what will remain in division 1 is absolute crap and nothing else. Most people who will remain in that division will have no clue how to play a class, how to rotate and, most importantly, what to do and when. So, for a worker Joe who plays a couple hours per day, will be stuck in that division for a long time. To make things even worse, many people will simply give up in that division in “a few days”. That means, these players will face either extended queue times or ‘Hail Mary’ queues with other divisions with widened search spread. And that’s inevitable.
Hence, Amber will be new legend for season 2 unless ANET is forced to match these poor sods with higher division players “in a few days”.
Needless to say that “you will always be matched with equally skilled player ‘because’ they will be in your same divisional tier” is also another trash logic that looks good on paper.
Thing is you also face those bad players. If you are as good as you think you are you should be able to carry to extend. I get bad teams as well, fighting on roads, farming buffs/animals and what not but enemy i face is also as bad and you can play around it and punish them really easy for lack of map awareness/mistakes etc.
and your point is…. ?
You can’t be an avg solo player to have this winstreak in season 2. In fact, you can’t be solo queuing to have a winstreak like this. And based on what you wrote, looks like you ran w/ a premade team and got lucky w/ matchmaking.
MMR is used as the main factor for your teammates, aka if you’re a good player, you get good teammates, if you’re a bad player you get bad teammates.
Unfortunately, the side effect of this in the first few days of the season is bad players (such as yourself) getting farmed by good players until they move out of your pip range (10+ pips more than you have)
Well this is actually true to the most extent. However, the system is working as intended by ANET.
Player A queues in, gets thrown into a pool of same range of div/tier and then bucketed by MMR.. closest 5 toons get in a bucket. Bucket for team red is full. Look for a blue bucket in similar division (No MMR check for blue). Found it? cool. Match set. Not found? Increase search range till match found (max: 4 mins). Found? cool. Matches will be unfair. They will be stupid. But, that’s not a consideration for the system. That’s season 2 for you.
This season it is all about matches/hour. How do you show PvP is gaining momentum in a game? You have to go by the numbers in form of metrics. Data is God when it comes to procure funding. If season over season number of matches made per hour increases it will prove PvP is more popular than ever. Last season was plagued by long wait queues in matchmaking process at higher levels. Hence, smaller number of matches were played at higher levels. All ANET did this time is that they moved the MMR from one side of the “IF” logic with setting a 4-min queue wait counter to increase number of matches made per hour.
Matches are a roll of the dice atm.
I do not believe that to be at all true. In a random roll of dice you don’t lose 10, 25 straight times. Its a statistical impossibility.
(edited by velmeister.4187)
Pips are small but easily countable items.
However, who cares?
So each team should have players with a similar MMR on it, but the two teams won’t necessarily have a similar MMR.
This is actually true. Thereby making this an unpleasant experience for many.
I’m really keen to see an example of a person who has 15 winning streak and is in solo queue.
I have won the 10 games I’ve played, all of them running alts for the league profession achievements.
The opposing team reached 400 once, and 300 in other two games. 4 times they didn’t even score 100 points (one of them being a 500-0).
I’ve had the easiest games at the end of amber / beginning of emerald, probably because that’s the point where all the people who cross amber through grind against low winrates gets stuck.
And I’m not even close to ESL level.A screenshot showing the wins from the Season 2 PvP league menu that proves your statement. Or it did not happen.

2 scrappers, 1 rev/reaper, 1 tempest, 1 druid. (won’t be surprised if druid gets dropped in favor of a power rev).
Scrapper Engi = master class atm.
Elite Specs will always outshine Vanilla Specs. [ Box Sales Rule #1]
That said, right now engineers are just plain crazy followed by necros (maybe) and revs. hybrid condi necros will be mid-high tier along with engis and revs.
5 vs 2-1-1-1 is still allowed. The cutoff for roster size differences is configurable, but it is entirely possible that match quality and queue times would not be acceptable at all ladder positions if the acceptable spread were smaller.
The root cause of this is simple. You are trying to merge GW1’s Random and Team Arena into One Ranked Arena in GW2. Unless you separate them, this problem will continue to cripple GW2’s PvP System.

Just make it a normal map with mordy meta happening every 2 hours with crystalline ores given as award for meta progress. That map is the worst ever. Running in circles for 10 minutes make me dizzy. I don’t even zone in there after I farmed the crystalline ores that I needed.
Now when season ended I ended with this…Right after reset at 26.01 I was in middle of match…if i didn’t earned just one pin I could be in legendary.
There are just now words that I have to console you. Good luck man. So sorry to see that.
they are shaking the meta up by rotating which classes will be OP for the next season and which no one will want to play.
That’s all they can do really. Please accept the reality.
Every time I see a thief in party, I can see the smile ear to ear now.
4 dimension of failure — MMR + PIP loss + Win Streak + 3 class requirement for AP
MMR Reset is needed. PIP loss system is just too messed up. Not sure how one can fix/manage the whole mess.
LordOtto.2650 you made a very valid point. Casual folks may not be tanking MMR en masse but, hardcore players will ruin it for everyone else by tanking MMR for easy win streaks.
I do not buy reporting function. Each report needs to be investigated. Match tanking investigation is not a pattern matching work similar to botting. That means ANET has to hire a person or use an existing resource to do that work. If people gain confidence that the reporting actually works, expect massive volume of “I lost bcoz of him” reports. <lol>. How do you even manage that crap? Why make a system that you know will require heavy manual intervention and maintenance? That’s a poor design.
(edited by velmeister.4187)
The changes for season 2 will make this less of a problem. Each team will have a tight MMR grouping such that each teammate should be very similar in skill to you. This is different from season 1 and unranked where we balance players on each team, i.e, high MMR and both sides and low MMR on both sides.
The goal is to ensure than if the higher skilled team wins, all the higher MMR players go up the ladder. Less unlucky high MMR players will drop on the ladder, and fewer low MMR players will get carried up the ladder.
So if you’re unlucky and got matched with a low MMR team, you will keep losing and have no way to recover?
You wouldn’t be matched with a low MMR team unless you also have low MMR.
How will you determine that when the season 2 starts and everyone is at 0 MMR based on your earlier quote? Or are you planning to carry over MMR from Season 1? Please elaborate your plan.
I have lost 12-14 matches straight and won 7-8 matches straight. And that happens within same division and tier range. You have my account. You can look it up. What you are describing can be extremely dangerous (if not worse than season 1) if someone simply gets stuck in lower divisions because of bad matchmaking luck.
Right now system is like, you are solid saphire (if we grade divisions by skill level) but if you play alot then you can get soloq legendary with no problems.
The problem is simple: ANET merged Random Solo Play with Team based Play to make PvP attractive for the masses. And they actually succeeded, IMHO. Many people get to HotM to do dailies, play PvP for kitten ‘n giggles. Now, that’s all good. But, now they introduced league system with shiny PvE rewards in PvP. So, if they want to implement your logic and skill segregation by division, they need to literally go back how PvP was in GW1 and also in the initial days of GW2. They need to bring back zergjoin and Solo Q. And that’s not gonna happen for sure. So, ANET will have to provide means for emerald heroes to complete Meta and a path to legendary regardless what they say for PR.
This type of game moves from meta to meta. Individual skill has really very little to do with it in a team of 3 good and 2 horribads losing against 5 semi-goods playing the meta. In most cases, you will find hardly 100 players who are skilled in a mass of 1000+ playing. And that’s an overly optimistic view of GW2’s PvP. Will they focus on 100 or the 1000?
(edited by velmeister.4187)
The average ladder position, rank, mmr, and max party size from each team is compared. The further away these are, up to the maximum specified in the configuration, the more skewed the odds.
Actually, you also need to take consideration of final team composition as they relate to current meta when 10 second counter starts to determine win chance. A Team with a composition closer to meta will always have a higher chance to win against a team that is not. I will give you an example, see screen attached.
Red is running a dual chrono, dh, rev, ele
Blue is running dbl ele, mes, rev, dh
This is a pretty close matchup and team composition at diamond level. With equal skill level, red will always outbunk/outcap blue w/ double portal and +1. It’s impossible to counter in this meta. Come February, probably both teams will suck with blue having a higher chance of winning because they will probably outdps red based on the information available. Now, this matchup is probably as close to meta comp as it can get but, still win chance is predictable as blue team folks knew within 30 seconds of the match who was going to win eventually. Meta was just stronger with Red. If you believe, taking class and team composition as a factor to predict win-chance is not kosher, the system will never even come close to be relevant and you will always face this issue unless of course in next season every match is a 10 necro matches like what we used to have back in 2013 terrormancing dhuumfire days.
Also, I think, PIP loss is a blunder and is completely not needed if the MM system works properly. With PIP loss, in many cases, ANET is punishing people for reasons beyond that person’s control (meta, achievement completion, disconnects, loss streak from poor matchmaking etc.).
Many people do not really care after certain point because the system gets tilted and that person loses so many matches at a stretch, all hope gets lost. Theoretically, one can’t lose a long series of matches at a stretch in this MM system. But, it does happen. I went from 7 off to diamond to 4 in Ruby and then came back to get to diamond with a series of wins. I played same class, same character throughout the season. So, there is something that’s unknown in the matchmaking process.
Scoring system needs to change and queue modes need to be segregated. It’s like trying to merge random arena with hall of heroes from GW1 perspective.

I enjoyed HOT for 2 months. Then, raids killed HOT for me. Waiting for 9 other people to do a content that is targeted for “organized” groups is just not for me. I play game on my schedule and don’t prefer to arrange my schedule to game.
I don’t do Raids. And after 2 months, there is hardly anything worthwhile to do in the expansion other than raids. If you have not already started with Raids, it is next to impossible to get into anyway.
It’s my belief ANET will keep adding new wings to grind in Raid and I will move onto other games. One thing for sure is that I will not be prepurchasing another GW2 expansion on blind faith. Then again, it’s just me.

So, does this mean one need to be a legend to craft the gift of the competitor? I am diamond and Y3 League champion says I am at tier 2/3 and objectives 1/2. I was about to open a ticket to get an understanding/official response to this.
Based on what I have seen so far, I have neither the capacity nor the desire anymore to get to legendary division. If this quest requires people to get to legendary to craft the gift, I might as well throw the towel and go back to doing something else.
Is there any official response to this?
Leg Armor for us stinking casuals (idea)?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: velmeister.4187
AFAIK, Leg armor will be obtainable after the timegated release of all raid wings. Based on the experience with this game, I’d say you probably do not want to do Raids just to get the armor. It’s quite possible that by time of the release of last raid wing, this whole Raid bandwagon will be totally abandoned like what they did to dungeons and something else will be “focussed” on. Fractals, WvW, PvP etc. got the similar treatment so far.
Most importantly, ANET will have to find out how they are going to handle upgrades and infusions for legendary armors when stat changes demand a whole different set of 6 runes. If someone is expecting one would simply get rid of 6 strength runes in favor of another set of runes because a stat change was made, it’s … well, I dunno what adjective to use here about that type of thought. If its a means to sell more upgrade extractor or create something ingame like fractals infusion extractor, it looks like a patchwork.
Personally, staying away from raids as I do not enjoy juggling my schedule to group with 9 people to do/grind a content. GW2 is now a fully mature game and its direction is ever changing. Hard to say if I will prepurchase another expansion from ANET again.
Is PIP loss based on individual performance? No.
Is Tier loss based on individual performance? No.
The entire system revolves around 50% WR. That means anyone with enough time will eventually get to the endpoint as long as he/she maintains WR above 50%. And even if that person does not get to 50% game will make sure the person does. It will add PIPs by “guessing” win chance and deciding whether to take away PIP or not based on team score (not individual). It seems like a socialistic system where you simply have to play the system to succeed. (I am not exactly opposed to socialism. In many aspects of MMO it is a necessity and 50% WR system is a must to maintain balance/community).
Is PIP loss to ensure some people do not cross certain tiers? I believe, that has to be the main reason why you would want to put this mechanism in the place. This means as high you go in divisions, lesser and lesser number of players there will be in the pool. That makes sense. But, if that is the intent — segregation of players by skills-- then why would you instill match making mechanisms to mix players who are at the top of the pyramid into the mix of players who are not in there yet? Queue time? If queue time is a matter of worry then why are you even segregating players this way? Honestly, you can’t have this both ways.
You are also allowing players who are teaming up with lower division players (friends, guildies etc.) to form partial teams (duo, trio etc.) into a match up with higher division players when the match standard is set at the highest division. In this system, theoretically, it is not expected a lower division player to even perform at a level that will be needed to compete against a higher division player. So, by allowing this you are actually doing a disservice to both the higher division players and the lower division players. And in this process, you are murdering Solo Queuers.
So, let me ask again…what exactly is the purpose of PIP loss for an individual in high tiers in this game? Please rethink and instill a system that serves everyone fairly.

My thoughts on the Nevermore quest (SPOILERS)
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: velmeister.4187
I made both HOPE and NEVERMORE. And those are the only two legendaries that I have after 3+ years of playing. I made them because I had an overflowing material storage and, most importantly, I did not know what I was actually getting myself into.
I echo your sentiments. HOPE quests, imho, was worse of the two. Jump Puzzles like Goemm’s lab can drive anyone nuts.
Amalgamated Gemstones are way overdone. Cost aside, double clicking 250x 5 times is just plain insane.
Just save solo queues from this punishment, that’s all. Let Solo Queuer’s not lose pips constantly for this RNG. The entire season is messed up anyway.
Here are a couple gems if you wanna investigate for your research. I have many more like these but, I have no time to edit names out and reformat. Since ya’ll hand out bans for n number of reasons and censor Alfred Hitchkitten’s( <<— see what I did there) name, I don’t want to post w/ other people’s names and get screwed.
I am actively declining to join insta-queue pops now. They are kittening death traps like these.
While you are watching can you push a ruleset that will completely remove the possibility of ambers and emeralds getting into diamond late ruby matches? Honestly, I find diamond matches to be extremely boring and amber and emeralds at least add some fun with fights instead of “bunk bunk bunk”. But, for sake of my poor innocent ever vanishing hard-earned soloQd pips, please stop this experimental nonsense for a few days.
Or at least protect Solo Q’rs who are not cheating their way up that Oily ladder.
EDIT: Whatever ruleset you used the day you rolled out changes hoping to eradicate Amber shopping, it seemed to be working that night. I got into stable matches that night with people who were at similar skill levels. But, from very next day, everything went haywire.

Envoy Armor 1: No will accept you in raids?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I never done raid in GW2 after giving trying it out for a few days after they released this content. Amount of toxicity that exists in groups that I have been with pretty much sealed the deal for me. After working 9-10 hours days, I play games to relax – not to get stressed or yelled at or to yell at someone else.
ANET can keep releasing content like this, I will keep ignoring them. It ain’t my cup of tea. 10 years ago, maybe yes. Not now. Don’t have that type of luxury or taste anymore.
One of the evils of tier system and associated achievements. I faced it myself and I know it hurts.
I think this happens partly because of year of ascension achievement requirement that necessitates a player to play 3 different classes and win x number of matches; because of human nature we tend to climb anything that can be climbed without thinking if climbing too fast too soon will eventually be beneficial or not.
A player who is a champion shadow or a champion legionnaire has all the reasons to believe that he/she will be able to get those achievements done using these classes. It is quite possible to achieve these at amber/emerald levels and even in sapphire but, at diamond or late ruby, playing a non-meta class is just meaningless and, most importantly, if you are not extremely good at them. And even if they are good, a team of war, thief, guard with no temp/chrono/druid in mid-high diamond will have any chance against equally or somewhat lesser skilled 2 temp, 2 chrono, druid/engi/rev team. It is happening to many people now. People rushed the divisions to get the tickets for wings or the icon indicating Diamond or Legend. And now, many of them are stuck trying to complete the meta achievements.
(edited by velmeister.4187)
Let the shared inventory slots be always visible like the search bar. This way, when a player scrolls down thru the bags, the shared inventory slots will always be visible for immediate access and a player won’t be to scroll up again to access them.
This is helpful when salvaging, accessing bank etc. through those slot items.
Hammertime coming back!
It looks like ANET wants everyone to play PvP modes to obtain the new shinny. If that’s the goal, regardless of what everyone may think, ANET will keep this item available/achievable for everyone as long as everyone is ready to grind for it. The title seems to be the exclusive one as far as league is concerned.
They said, “The title should unlock once you enter legendary. It’s a bug, and is slated to be fixed in our next release.”
Keyword is “Unlock”. That means you will be able to work on this title “only” after you reach legendary rank aka division 6. You will receive the title once you cross division 6. That means Legendary x1.

How do I force a community/group event fail

So, essentially, 3 people who kindly bothered to respond is asking me to become Department of State official or a CIA agent, virtually.
Event is at Lyssa and at Frostgorge. Lyssa requires union waypoint remain contested by failing the main event purposefully and so does Frostgorge. Legendary weapon skin is a personal personal item/quest. Why am I asked to manipulate the player community in order to succeed?
I could not but help dig up the blog post on adventure that excited the hell out of me about them:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/adventuring-forth/
For the article:
In the early, conceptual phases of Adventures design, we examined some of our more static content types — things like skill challenges, jumping puzzles, and renown regions — in an effort to determine where they were successful and where we thought they could be improved. We felt that these types of content lacked replay value, had limited ties to the game world and its story, and didn’t do enough to encourage social interaction. Our open-world event structure didn’t make it clear which activities were available to participate in when events weren’t running, which frequently left our world in a state where there were either active events to do or seemingly nothing to do.
Adventures are our answer to these problems. Each Adventure showcases a seemingly simple path to victory that requires strategy, practice, and mastery in order to excel and ultimately achieve success.
If bolded part was the problem that needed you to introduce this adventure system, your implementation has done exactly what that bolded part is and not the solution that you intended to provide.
Adventures lack replay value to a huge number of players otherwise, I still would not show up as #143 in Haywire Punching mess after so many weeks, I’d be in 1000s.
Adventures have limited ties to the game world and its story other than, for example, when some people need drone race to glide off to a mastery point in order to bypass a jump puzzle or to collect scavenger hunt item from TD by purposefully failing the ley line race adventure.
Adventures don’t do enough to encourage social interaction – Do they? Do I speak about my failures in shooting gallery where I earned bronze or simply failing sanctum scramble? Or do I speak about my prowess of completing drone race and earning gold on the first try only to realize I was #212 on the scoreboard? And I still am?
Again from the same article that showcased shooting gallery:
A great example of this is our Shooting Gallery Adventure in Verdant Brink.
Oh yeah. Best adventure ever!

Since when did GW2 become a Hardcore MMO?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: velmeister.4187
I do not find HoT as hard or kittenome people may find it. For many elements, I’d give it 9.5/10; eg, art and aesthetics, implementation of gliding that some other game did not do as well, elite specs etc.
That said, what I find disgusting is that ANET employees knowingly introduced mechanisms in the game to annoy, irritate and to disgust a portion of its playerbase whether by introducing time gating, or by forcing individuals sabotage group events for personal gains, or by making people do things that they simply don’t like to do.
I don’t exactly buy the idea of ANET forcing people to buy gems with some of these mechanisms. In fact, if that was their goal, they failed as far as I am concerned. I did not spend a dime on their store other than buying their 99 bucks expansion that gave 4k gems. HoT content did not make me convert/purchase any gems.
Personally, I believe, ANET lacks good project management and many of its teams work in silos. As consumers, we are witnessing the pitfalls.
