I do not understand the purpose of releasing these hues. This game is colorful. Its not a dark themed game. There is also no underworld for us to face the “shadow”. Is this a hint from ANET that “Underworld” is coming in GW2????

I do not like the dyes that kill/hide textures. Shadow dyes are just that. Hence, I did not bother buying anything other than shadow orange and green from TP, thanks to somewhat less fortunate people selling them, while I was feeling charitable last night.

Giver's Armor, reminds me of the old MF armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

MF stats had no meaningful value on the armor.
Boon Duration also has no meaningful value on the armor.

In fact, there should be only one set of armor that will allow changing of attributes instead of creating a mess with so many different armors differentiated by attributes. GW2 needs to go back to it GW1 roots and focus on kitten that is important rather than to find ways to add mini-grinds to keep people occupied.

This is how tPvP is set up and there should be no real reason for it to be any different in PvE. I understand it affects Rune market but, how many runes people actually buy and replace in an armor piece on a regular basis? Or for that matter,. is there any need to?

WouldGW2 be more successful with HolyTrinity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: velmeister.4187

velmeister.4187

To answer your OP, any MMO will always have trinity roles. And GW2 is no different. GW2 was designed with a notion that every class will be able to perform the trinity roles to certain extent in the game depending on the build and the situation. To that extent they succeeded greatly. I do not want to see an LFG post “LF Healer AC all paths”. It’s meaningless. If i see my team is lacking defensive support, I can always retrait my guard and bring defensive mechanism or retrait my ele or my warrior. Trinity in GW2 is conceived thru roles than individual toons. This question about trinity pops up mostly because of l2play issue and to an extent because of human resistance to change.

GW2 might not be unique and a better game with holy trinity, but I really do think it would be more successful.

GW2 is a very successful game by it’s own right. It is undoubtedly the most artistic game on the market.

Because as I know 90% of the people were turned down by no holy trinity, which is the only reason people play other mmo(WOW, SWTOR,etc.) instead of GW2, imagine if gw2 went with holy trinity, people often say XXX mmo is WOW killer, I think GW2 would actually kill WOW.
PS: all my opinion.

Nobody is killing nobody. There are people who still play Everquest. there are people who log on to AION everyday and there are people who will continue to play WOW as long as the servers are up.

Daily Worthless Actions & Daily Achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

velmeister.4187

I get what OP complains about.

And frankly he´s right, the PvP guys get rewards for actually gaming the way they like, while us PvE people are gated into a VERY narrow game play window.

People didn’t need to be encouraged to hit world bosses either. I’ve never seen one of the ones in the rotations under populated and putting dailies where you may need to wait an hour or more to do them is a bad idea, especially since the only way you’ll know its time to do them is to use an external site for the timers, which the game does not tell you about.

Juxtaposition of these arguments show how some people view a number as 6 and others as 9.

First quoted argument — PvP players got it easy. Get AP for doing whatever they normally do. Correct. But, why? PvP game mode is extremely limited in the game. You have only a few objectives and only a few things to do. However, in PvE domain there are multiple options. As a PvE player you may not want to do events in Wayfair hills today because you just event trained Ulgoth and Shatterer down and got one of your daily done. Now, You could get rest of your dailies done by viewing vistas, foraging some greenies, and doing one of other alternatives. Hence, you have varied choices. Are you complaining about having varied choices? Or, are you looking at options where your PvE game options are so limited as the PvP game options that you get your dailies done just by playing it?

Next quoted argument — Do you think PvP players need the extra encouragement to cap a point or to kill a player or two in a PvP match? Probably, well definitely, not. The PvE players, likewise, do not need the encouragement to kill Teq or Wurm or any other world bosses. They will do it if they want to do so. Therefore, they are being rewarded for doing whatever they choose to do like the PvP players or our OP in this case. So, is this a problem?

So, what’d a gamemaker do? Give more choices or less choices to the community? Hence, it boils down to this.. LOGIN rewards. Will it be ok to attach AP to login rewards? I logged on and did whatever kitten I wanted to do or not wanted to do and got my daily AP. Works? Yes. Is it beneficial for the community in general? I think not.

Event Completion Dailies overpopulate zones, causing events enemies to be wiped out as they spawn and making it very difficult to get credit as none scale to the numbers that show up and aren’t built to handle lots of exotic/ascended geared characters.

They are one of the worst dailies they added, making other people being at the events with you a negative thing.

Daily achievements last 24 hours. Are you stating a zone is so over-populated during 24 hours time that no one during their regular play time, can’t tag a mob to get the completion reward? If you are having issues w/ tagging, maybe you can move to another event instead of the one you just could not tag during your limited play time? Every zone has multiple events going on. Some events need some initiative on the player’s part to trigger. But, event completion is cool and sometimes very effective when a lowbie struggling to get an event complete gets help from multiple players.

The new dailies “benefiting the community” is both relative and far-fetched.

’nuff said.

You stated The new dailies “benefiting the community” is both relative and far-fetched. but, you did not provide a single evidence to refute my statement rather presented further evidence how guild specific or individual specific events are not helping the community as a whole. Yes they do help but, to a certain minimal extent. When a big guild wants to fill a map to spawn Teq, they do not exactly look for a pug populated map but, a map where there are minimum number of PuGs/non-guildies available. When your attire sports ascended gear while the rest of the people around you are sporting blues and greens, you seldom add a huge contribution by yourself to the event. Yes, if it were a game that should not be named here, you probably would have. But, in GW2 world, you don’t. To make your argument completely moot is that fact that entire content of GW2 can be done in blues and greens with little to no trouble. Your contribution is welcome but, is not desperately needed by the community as a whole. But, a shortage of supply in soft wood or iron will probably hurt you a lot more than you think when you won’t be able to finish an ascended weapon on a daily basis as stated in your OP.

Since I already played GW2 for 2+ years before shelving it temporarily, I asked him to join me in GW2. He obliged and purchased the game the very same night. Unfortunately, he got bored by lvl 6 and went back to Diablo 3 and reactivated his WoW account. His reasoning was that he felt the game was trying to chain him down while he was trying to break free. It’s kinda sad because Level 1 – 30 was the best content design for ANET when this game launched.

I may decide to farm 5440 Geodes and then cash them all for recipes in a T6 dry top. That’s 22 stacks. It may not be a lot. Just a 20 slot bag and 2 more slots in another. But, that’s beside the point. If we have a container in the game called wallet then all the currencies should be in the wallet instead of me looking for which currency is in which bank slot.

Daily Worthless Actions & Daily Achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

velmeister.4187

@OP – Your actions are not worthless but, mostly catering to you and maybe to certain extent your guildies. The Daily achievements, on the other hand, are designed to cater to you and the community as a whole. So, let’s analyze:

Your worthless actions:

Catering to you:
_______________
|* Finished leveling 12th character to 80 (2nd mesmer)
|* Equipped the 2nd mesmer in full Assassin’s by opening some Raider’s ascended |chests and crafting the rest of armour and runes
|* Crafted ascended sword for the 2nd mesmer
|* Did tier 6 Dry Top and bought 2 weapon recipes
|* Crafted 2 more weapons for the Ambrite weapon collection, for the total of 12/16 |weapons unlocked

Catering to you and your guildies:
__________________________
|* Fractal 50 fast run with guildies
|* Fractal 40 fast run with guildies
|* Full set of Guild Missions (and an extra Bounty for those who missed the first one)
|* Helped a guildie do Vexa’s Lab JP for his Mawdrey

Now, let’s look at the dailies that you listed.

  • Daily Kryta Lumberer — Caters to you and excess items go on to TP for sale to the other community members. Hence, this achievement helps the economy.
  • Daily Activity Participation — Populates an activity instance, gives you an opportunity to do something other than what you’d do normally and exposes you to another part of the community. Imagine, how would you feel if you, one day, decide to take part in one of those activities, like sanctum sprint, and find you are the only one sprinting. Will that be fun?
  • Daily Dredgehaunt Cliffs Event Completer — Again populates a zone, creates an environment where a newbie may get help from another player.
  • Daily Fire Elemental —A Boss event with rewards, something that can’t be tackled solo. Hence, it helps the community while getting you couple of nice items to use/sale on TP.

There is some thought process that goes into designing a game. Some of which may not be readily apparent to every member of the community but, the thought process is there. So, let’s reserve our censure about things that we do not understand immediately.

Is there a limit how many chests/potions are applied to the reward track per day?

For example, if someone saved up 10 rare chests and got 10 pvp potions, can that person use all those potions one day to advance a track? Or is there a limit of, say, max 4 potions can be applied per day?

Or is there a limit of chests that can be applied to track per day?

Even though I’m usually against speculation on un-released content, I thought it’d be a bit of fun if we could speculate what the six stats for a Rune of the Revenant would be. (If there is one at all!)

Here’s my guess:

1) +25 Power
2) +35 Condition Damage
3) + 50 Power
4) + 65 Condition Damage
5) +100 Power
6) Gain Fury, Swiftness & Might when swapping Legends (60 second cooldown)

Remember this is just for fun! Nothing mentioned in this thread is confirmed!

6) 50% Chance of summoning Austin Powers. All legendary related skills become shagadelic for a few seconds (60 second cooldown)

HoT is Underwhelming

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: velmeister.4187

velmeister.4187

Adding a bunch of skills per classes will add more complexity to already existing problems rather than solving them. GW2 Meta for each class allows for only so many skills. Regardless how many people think individually, player collective will always follow the meta. Since skills are always designed in a group across classes, it is extremely difficult to introduce new skills in a game where gameplay modes are already severely limited. Look what happened to majority of new skills that got introduced as part of living story season 1 and associated updates. How many are used actively? Antitoxin spray anyone?

Hence, before ANET could add more skill variety to the skill palette they need to make more gameplay types available. I’d expect them to introduce GW2 version of Polymock in HoT and that will add a lot of variety with so many minis already available. They are already introducing GW2 version of GW1 GvG under the name of Stronghold in HoT. It won’t be surprising if they introduce more modes as time passes.

I think ANET could have implemented the personal story a bit differently in the game. Instead of giving it a finite beginning and end, they could have made it open ended and achievement driven in similar fashion as living story episodes. That way they could have tied the personal stories to the living stories and could have enhanced it even further. Maybe in HoT they will do just that.

How is 3/5 people to kick still in the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: velmeister.4187

velmeister.4187

The simplest way to resolve this is to have rewards progressively distributed through out a dungeon path. It’s true that some people may opt to do partial dungeon and leave out the hard boss fights. But, they do not get progressively higher portion of the reward for the boss fight.

For example,

Take AC Path 3.

Objective 1. Spider Queen – 5 tokens, 5s
Objective 2. Kholer – 10 tokens, 10s
Objective 3. Graveling Mounds (part 1 and 2) – 20 tokens, 20s
Objective 4. Rhombus – 25 tokens, 25s

All 4 objectives yield 60 tokens per day and 60s. Bonus gold is distributed to players based on how many objectives a player completed. Bonus gold amount will depend on dungeon path/difficulty.

In this system, Player 1 thru 5 start AC path 3 and kill Spider Queen. Player 5 gets kicked at Rhombus, the new player does not get the reward for killing Rhombus but, gets rewarded an equivalent amount for completing the first objective, ie, killing of spider queen, 5 tokens and 5s. The kicked player gets rewarded for completing 3 objectives.

I’d leave it upto the devs/community to decide if bonus gold should be prorated or skipped for either new or old player 5. My vote will be on bonus gold be skipped for both and rewarded only after all 4 objectives are completed by a player for the day. In that case, a player choosing to join last boss fight in one instance while completing other objectives in another instance of the same dungeon path, won’t have to redo in order to get the full objective 4 rewards and bonus gold for completing all the objectives for the path.

And yes, this will kill dungeon path selling and people would like to run Arah paths legit again.

Armor repair has no purpose anymore

Honestly, in 2+ years of playing I never used a single instance armor repair canister. I did not do that even when I have a bunch for free available thru AP chests. I do not know who will use that and for that matter who will actually spend gems in buying them.

Also, armor damage does not make me play more cautiously but, longer revival time does.

tl;dr — No cost Armor repair does not add any value to a player’s gameplay experience and possibly does not aid in generating revenue from gemstore. It’s best to remove armor damage concept from the game.

Guild Halls - clarification needed

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: velmeister.4187

velmeister.4187

I am sure it will be implemented somewhat in the same way they did it in GW1.

—> You take a boat and visit the isles
—> Isle that you like you claim for your guild by using celestial sigil

In GW2, they may end up giving us guild missions to complete to obtain sigils to claim individual isles. That means there may be difficulty scales in these tasks. It would not make much of a practical sense for a small guild to claim a huge guild hall and vice versa. I believe, they will also add subsequent missions in guild missions for expanding guild hall size, facilities etc.

From PvE standpoint, it’d make a lot of sense to use guild halls as staging ground for embarking on mega challenges (guild raids??) against tough mordrem bosses. Guild halls may serve as strategic hub in PvE domain for guild centric activities.

I just don’t want LA 2.0 as my guild hall. I want NPCs there who will know about my guild (already implemented similar concept in GW1 for one of the outposts in EoTN iirc) and its achievements. NPCs that can give guild members daily quests/tasks/challenges to complete. Some sexy NPCs to look/interact with maybe as well — Lydia anyone? <lol>

There are many things that they can do with guild halls. But, do they have the funding to do so? I look at Guild Hall as guild activity center more than a convenience store.

Retroactive Mastery Points?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

velmeister.4187

I am quite certain that they will introduce collections for existing achievements as well. But, they may not penalize players who had already completed the achievement by making them to go back and redo the achievement to get a collectible token in order to obtain a mastery point. These type of players may already be grandfathered into the new collection based mastery system (if any).

This way ANET generates content for people who are on the fence about completing something. To give an example, I am at almost 19k AP, I do not have a single legendary or any character with 100% world completion. With new system in place, I may finally get motivated to finish world completion on a toon. I may want to do it now hoping I will be all set for masteries related to world completion when HoT launches. Will I appreciate having to do an all over world completion to collect some shinnies to get the mastery credit when HoT Launches? I’d rather prefer to play the new content ASAP and have a leg up w/ masteries from existing world, or at least a good percentage of it.

With these new collections, we were curious if the precursors would still be obtainable through other means such as drops and the Mystic Forge where they are currently acquired. The original precursors will definitely remain available through those means, but the new precursors will be different and revealed when they are ready to roll out the new legendary weapons. The collections are just a very clear path that outlines every step to getting a precursor, which Colin says is important to them as well as a bulk of players that will see these collections as an epic journey to crafting their precursor. For the handful of players that like to roll the dice and play the Mystic Forge, those options will still be available for the original precursors for those who enjoy that and find it an exciting experience.

Will new precursors not be available at all via MF? Also, old precursor not available thru collections?

I read it as old precursors will be available through both MF and the collections, new ones only through collections.

OK cool! I am hoping that is the way it will be.

I really like the collections approach. This makes legendaries meaningful. Hopefully, these legendaries will be account bound.

“We’re going to add Mastery Points back into the existing core Guild Wars 2 world, and you’ll be able to earn them all over that world,” he confirms. “There will be new Mastery lines that you can spend, purchase and train in that world.”

You unlock Mastery Points by doing things like completing story elements in a region, reaching hard-to-get-to locations, defeating content, and exploring entire maps. But while Mastery lines and their goodies are tied to regions, the abilities themselves may be usable elsewhere.

What does this mean for someone who has already completed the maps in GW2 as it stands today and got all the explorer, diver and jumping puzzle achievements? Will that person have some mastery points already accumulated for his/her account upon the release of HoT?

Remember, Masteries are an idea for the future, and a groundwork that will be expanded upon.

Or does this mean that player will have to go thru this over again for some scavenger hunt (e.g., badges etc.) on these completed maps and puzzles to obtain masteries?

I am lazy. I’d prefer to have them already accrued on my account.

This looks like AION 3.0 redux. I am not sure what is meant by “shoot down quickly”. Maybe a typo and the writer meant to say “climb down quickly”.

Gliding was fun in AION and was, arguably, the only cool innovative thing in that game. So, I am looking forward to gliding in GW2.

I think that they’re going to be introducing a Trinity system in HoT. Why? Because it would rid the game of the current Berserker standard as well as set up for more challenging fights.

1 set of gear will always be preferred over the others, unless each class has its own and unique set of gear like they have in other mmos like WoW for example.

Trinity is a non-issue with GW2. In fact, this game does not need a trinity system at all. I’d not wait in front of a dungeon for 2 hours to find a healer in 2015. No, I won’t. I will pick another game where I will be able to jump right in. Trinity is so 2003.

I think the real issue w/ armor/weapon meta is how the system is currently designed. For a shift from any meta it will be very difficult with current equipment design. Most players have spent hours and invested 1000s to get their berserker stat armor and weapons, ascended and legendary versions. It will not really be wise to introduce a shift in game mechanics without addressing this aspect first. Ideally, ANET should allow unlock system of PvP in PvE as well. There is no need for each armor pieces to have stats as they are merely skins. They could simply make all armor and weapon stats selectable out of combat on ascended armor pieces.

It is true that 1 set of gear will be preferred over any other for classes and in the current equipment design model, it makes perfect sense. Can I imagine carrying 10 different sets of 6 piece armors into battle or continuously equip/unequip gear to suit a battle situation?

Are there any plans to shift away from the Zerker meta in HoT PvE domain?

I have to agree. The fights are not “stack and spank”. These fights are more designed to break away from that mode. I think ANET took up the challenge and is improvising as the game matures. Without a question, GW2 art is world-class. I have GW2 Wallpapers framed as art in my home office for a reason. I only wish they do away with cutscenes during a boss encounter. But, overall ANET is doing a good job in keeping me entertained. I came back after a 10+ months break and got totally immersed in the game in a day or two.

Dragon Shadow event, feedback

in Living World

Here’s what I thought about this encounter/event:

1. Cutscenes during a fight – Bullkitten. It kills immersion. You can always have the mob move around or do w/e it is doing in the cutscene w/o taking controls away from the player.

2. Mechanics – Mediocre. Dodge, dodge and dodge some more. I enjoyed the fight mechanics and tactics in Glint’s dungeon a LOT more than I did this one.

3. Environment – Poor. The arena is way too small for my taste. It was kind of a bummer when you are confined in a small circular arena moments after you found yourself in a huge expansive arena that looked more like a set up for a 300 man raid.

I did not like the finale. The whole season kinda went downhill after the first episode of LS season 2.

Caithe Wynne interaction was the most unconvincing ever. I am not asking for a Sephiroth killing Aeris moment but, at least make this extremely important “point of no return” for Caithe meaningful. Also, never sequence an event like this in a mission where people repeat it for a completely different purpose, aka achievement. Then the whole thing loses its significance, meaning and intent by reducing itself to “a cutscene that player can’t skip”.

They refunded me gems for duplicate items that I purchased off gemstore upon request and, in addition, they refunded me gems for the ones that I did not even request. So, yea we must give credit where credit’s due.

I like new daily system. I go to mists and Booooooooom! All dailies done in one shot.

I like the rewards for completing them as well. I am happy to see that ANET is slowly undoing the mistake of introducing levels in this game.

My only concern is, I will hit 10k ap tomorrow.
For the following days 9th – 13th will i still receive the daily ap or will I lose out on 40ap?

How can you lose something that you do not have?

That said, ANET will probably ignore issues like this because it is not a bug. I suggest you do something during those 4 days that you had never done before.

Inflation pushes progression beyond reach

If one thinks “it’s mindless farming” to obtain something of high value in a game, that high value item is not really worth it for that person.

If one thinks “I want a Bitfrost” and makes it a goal, time spent for acquiring funds for Bitfrost will not be “mindless farming” to that person.

No one is wrong. It’s really all about breakpoints.

A person may be willing to pay 700g for a precursor while another will be fine if mystic forge rolled a precursor within 50 tries. First person will probably get frustrated to find that precursor that is needed is selling for 1400g while the other person will cry foul if mystic forge did not spit out the precursor in 100 tries.

Game companies manipulate these breakpoints to create hooks in the game that keep people logging on when intrinsic OCD takes over (for lack of better words), desire to complete or to achieve.

For a game like GW2, 2+ years old, there gotta be multiple ways to attain any particular thing. Grinding Gold and measuring success by converting gold earned/hour is not exactly my cup of tea.

I’d like to see there is a definitive method by which one can obtain precursors to legendaries other than roll of dice, TP manipulation, or gold farming. I do not believe you can call your game innovative if it relies on the same principle of gold/hr to design and deliver desirable content.
