a zerker ranger with a jaguar and traps can do a lot of dmg. not as much as a warrior but it’s nothing to sneeze at.
having played a gaurdian and now a ranger i can say my DPS is far far better as a ranger than a guardian.
wvwvw has too much PVDoor.
it needs another map without objectives where people can actually PVP in a group that isn’t 10+ people.
You are viewing balancing only from PvP point of view. If they buff all of them together, they would have to buff PvE difficultly too. 90% of balance they did so far, they nerfed something and buffed another thing in one proffesion.
Most people use similar build, because it is “the best”. By nerfing & buffing together they can make more viable builds to play with.
the classes that are terrible at PVE are the same ones that are terrible at PVP.
the exception is the thief, who is the god of PVP but only mediocre at PVE (they still have the potential to beat the “screwed 3”.
the tiers seem to go:
1. thief, ele, mesmer
2. warrior, guardian
4. ranger, engi, necro
the gap between the first tier and the 3rd tier is mind bogglingly vast.
just dont follow that guy..

Still waiting to find one of these godly thieves that can kill me just by blinking or thinking on a T2, T1 server or in tPVP or sPVP where we play whatever our server.
Are they a powerful, easy to play class? Sure. Can they kill me? Nope. Honestly, I’m just not buying it anymore.
I find it fun evading with sword and close to pema vigor if they close on me with a cooldown, leaping well back out of their range with LR, HS and watching them try and close the gap, blowing all their cooldowns to get back into stealth because my pet stays back and they can’t use C/D.

it doesn’t really, but it means everyone else has to work harder to make up for you. in a good group nobody will notice, but in a less skilled group the difference becomes more noticeable.

Don’t see how culling is the thief’s fault? There’s no perma stealth skill that a thief can use at all. And all I see in that video is a player who actually utilizes his evasive skills and knows when to back off instead of standing there and taking a beating. Admittedly he probably would have died a few times if not for culling, but I don’t really see how that’s a class issue so fix the CULLING issue? Why nerf a class over something that’s not even their fault?. Fought thieves in sPvP and I’ve never seen anything remotely close to a perma stealth, yeah they’re evasive and bounce around the place a lot but that’s about it. It’s hilarious that this class has already been nerfed plenty and people still cry about it because they can’t just mash buttons and insta win against something.
i don’t think culling will be fixed anytime soon. until it is fixed (if ever) thieves should be changed.
the other problem is the huge dps. 6-7k by pressing 1 button is just ridiculous. mother classes can do that as well, but at least they don’t just vanish until they can do it again. they should smack the 66% dmg thieves have in spvp to wvwvw. it would be a start.

Necromancers should never be solo, they should always have an undead army around them, which is the lore concept.So why are minions so bad in GW2 and not even come from dead bodies like GW1?

There are 2 builds which can still insta kill the tank class of the game. But few run it and not that guy you fought.(Although the build I’m talking about is ridiculous, how can two little knives even breakthrough heavy plate armour, only swords should be able to do that.) Think about it irl, take a kitchen knife and stab your car, see how it just bounces off (Not responsible for any car relate knifing damages)
Theives aren’t Overpowered most of the time, but in relation to what I mentioned above, Anet just really didn’t think about it. Heavy armour should have a +stat against small weapons, since they really can’t do jack kitten to full plate irl.

before it get anywhere near decent it need to be based on a certain amount of % of total ppl that is currently in the map, not a fixed number, you know the big guilds out there could easily field 2-3 times your 35 ppl just to demote a commander for lols
you’re right, but the number has to be something large enough to make it somewhat difficult to do but also not impossible to achieve. i don’t know how many people are on a map at one time.

As we all know, the amount of people with commander is on the rise. Most of them are terrible.
The vote to demote system involves a temporary lock of the commander feature when a commander reaches a certain number of votes to demote. let’s say a 24-48h freeze and maybe 35 down votes.
this way, the commantards in LA that nobody likes will be instantly silenced, and the terrible commanders in WvWvW will be silenced until they get their skills up to snuff.
if you get demoted, then you know you have things to work on for the future. it’s the perfect idea to make sure people are actually using the icon as it was intended.

They have high DPS, agree.. And stealth is overpowered, also agree.. But some common skill use and you should be able to dodge/evade their high DPS attacks. And when they go stealth, don’t run to them of course.. Let them come to you (since they will want to backstab you, if not running away from you). A class is never unkillable, it’s the player controlling it that gives the odds.. I’ve seen plenty of lvl 80’s not using skills wisely, while some upleveled ones really know what to do and when to do it..
i agree, that any class can be killed, but the thief is so far beyond any other class other than D/D ele that they can win nearly every time unless they make a giant mistake (IE: not using stealth).
did you watch the video i linked? that guy killed how many people before finally being zerged down? the only reason he didn’t escape the last time was because he got stunned multiple times. now imagine if that was a 1v1. good luck other player!
it’s totally ridiculous that 1 guy solo can kill so many with 20 people around him. what other class can do that even with 3-4 people (besides D/D ele)? and on top of that, he can put out 6k hits by pressing 1 skill over and over in full glass canon armor and be rewarded for it.
there’s no incentive to run anything but glass canon on thief because all you’re doing is gimping your dmg.
i wish my ranger could hit 6k by pressing 1, but unfortunately Anet’s idea of balance is that we can do 6k with 10 hits that can almost completely be dodged!
i run full zerk and if i land a full rapid fire i’ve hit 9.8k max (vs an upleveled ranger lol).
couple that with entangle and jaguar 3k crits and many people go down quick. longbow on a tank build is pretty bad, but don’t under estimate what it can do.
also don’t forget about pet swap for quickness and rapid fire. it comes out quick when not expected.
Making sure you understand me, my original statement was LB at range or at Max range… Entangle and pet swaping are not a good idea at 1500+ range when it takes so long for your pet to run up to the person. They won’t be just sitting there waiting for you pet to arrive, because you swapped them out so you could acquire quickness.
I run with 24K health, your nice crit and cat crit has taken me down to 1/2 health, to which I’ve now popped a 940 tick TU… You ready for your next set of cool downs? Hope you get your crit on those as well.
Edit: What should really get your goat is… with 24k health, I’ve been 3 shot by a thief.
nobody ever uses longbow at max range unless it’s a zvz. in a 1v1 i usually ignore the number 1. only 1 is affected by distance from target. rapid fire works best at close range because more arrows land. besides, the longbow still crits for about 1200 when in about 600 range with my build, so that’ll overcome your troll anyway.
going into a 1v1 i unleash 3 and then 2 while running up to the target, then i entangle, swap to sword/horn and go to work with my invis jaguar. then i can swap back for the number 4 and another rapid fire.
tbh, rangers are the easiest class for me to kill, which i guess is kind of sad. most are using bows and they die before they escape my entangle.
Interestingly enough, we’re running the same weapon group. However, again, my analysis on the LB was about max range inefficiency to the OP. The OP never said anything about LB coupled with Sword and horn. He asked is the Longbow really this bad. And frankly, as a killing machine, the LB is terrible by itself.
Now, if you want to enter a thread, interject a whole new set of dynamics then call someone a name for pointing it out, then….
the longbow is fantastic at range. rapid fire people from 1200-1500 range. i see nothing wrong with it. it needs a high crit chance to be effective though because it has no secondary effects.

Hmmz, strange answer there.. I can’t recall I was ever downed by a thief 1vs1 in WvW to be honest.. My vid quite explicitly shows how I put down 3 thieves myself (ok, second one was completely unprepared, so went down with some quick SB shots since he was fighting a Veteran Guard.. His bad though, always check surroundings in WvW..)
Agree on the D/D ele.. Have downed not so many of those in my entire WvW career.. But they are killable..Everything can be killed by everything, the beauty of this game..

i am also in a small guild. that’s the way i like it. i have no interested in joining a guild of 300+ with 270 offline.

i guess we all know that anet doesn’t care about thieves at all.
rangers need a buff, engis need a buff, and necros need a buff. in pve
in wvwvw thieves need a massive nerf, d/d eles could also use some nerfing, shatter mesmer could as well. the classes listed above all need buffs too.
i feel like the rapid fire should be 5 shots instead of 10. it is simply too easy for people to dodge out of the way, not to mention that half the arrows simply miss vs a target running sideways.
running full zerk i can land a 7k rapid pretty easily, but i have to land nearly every arrow. i got hit for a 7.9k fire grab last night. that’s 1 hit.
a 5 arrows rapid fire with the same dmg would still allow people to dodge, but also at least give a chance for most arrows to actually land.
i would also like an option to hide the icon but retain the abilities

I’m not shooting mice. I was talking in w3. I’ve yet to see a 6 didget crit on any player. Like I mentioned, I can’t recall dropping anyone at distance on my ranger (afk’rs aside). I’ve sat on wall after wall, over 600 keep defenses and I don’t recall killing anyone at max range with my LB alone. Of course it doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened, but if it has, it is a pretty rare event…. Not something routine at all, not even close.

90% of solo players i see in wvwvw are thieves. at this point i just run away when i see a thief, because i don’t stand a chance. it isn’t a L2P issue. i can handle other classes minus eles and some mesmers alright, but thieves are just something else.
So umm let me get this straight… you are complaining about thieves because you cant take them but other classes that you admit you cant take them are ok? Sounds like a bias to me

i get roflstomped by most thieves without landing a hit. a glass canon thief doesn’t dance around 10 players at once by taking lots of hits.
i love the longbow. granted rapid does the dmg of backstab etc.. in 10 hits instead of 1 (i got hit for a 5k steal today kitten?) and you’ll almost never land a full volley but it still hurts against people who can’t move.
Actually rapid shot is 12 hits. And in terms of DPS it’s pretty much the same as the autoattack. If you time it wrong and rapid shot interrupts an autoattack just before it fires, you’ll actually reduce your DPS.
Its benefits are that it’ll do the same damage even at close range, and it’ll automatically track targets (even if they stealth). Outside of those use cases, it’s pretty much the same thing as autoattack.
maybe slightly less dmg per hit than 1 but it does it much faster than waiting for 12 auto attacks.
and in the end,
rangers, thieves and engies can go play another game, because they are not liked in parties, just because they are next to uselessprove me wrong !

25% toughness increaseIt’s a huge buff, but if the enemy outnumbers you 3 to 1, then it actually starts to look like it’s not enough.
that might be okay for zergs, but that also creates super powered roamers who would be incredibly hard to kill.
i leveled my ranger from 35 to 80 in AC so i feel your pain. the problem is most 30s are terrible so people assume you are and don’t take the chance.
i got myself a full set of rare 35 gear and trinkets and my dps was actually rather good. it won’t compare to an 80 in exotics, but it is closer than you’d think. after you get gear, look for laidback groups. you’ll get kicked, but hopefully less.
after playing a ranger, i think people underestimate the dmg they can put out. not as high as warrior, but much higher than i ever got on guardian.
most of the time i don’t care what classes i see as i’ve done fractals with all lights classes fine. it depends on how good they are.
for dungeons, i usually get cautious when i have a party full of light armors, as usually they die very quickly.
Reminds me of the undead kitten Clerics in GW1, had the full name on the health bar but censored it if you called the target. Anyway yes we need more report options.
EDIT Really Anet? its a word thats not only a mob name in gw1 but an exotic axe in in this game also i can’t link the axe because you censor it, but Rangers can name their pets whatever they want?
they can’t name them whatever they want. for example “shaguar” (the car from austin powers in case it is blocked) is censored. you can’t expect a swear filter to block every word in any language that uses the english alphabet.
okay so a thief breaks stealth upon attack either
A. i die to his opening combo
B. i live and knock him away. then i try to DPS him but alas he has restealthed and is gone.
am i supposed to try to kill him in the 3 seconds he’s visible? what other class can be expected to be downed in 3 seconds?
the thieves in this thread are grasping at straws. your class is broken and you should feel dirty for playing it.
edit: i should add that survving such a combo usually leaves me with <8% hp so i’m pretty easy to finish off with a 3k basic attack.

3 is good as i run jaguars and it gives vulnerability.
4 is good because it banishes people
5 is great. anyone who thinks aoe crits of 1k with cripple is bad is stupid. it can hold off a zerg at a choke point easily of make people scatter from the gate.
rangers need a big dmg buff, especially on 1 and 2 considering how easily other classes can manage with 1 hit instead of many, but overall i find the longbow is much better for small engagements than shortbow.
sounds like OP is a thief who ran over a ranger trap and was so shocked that he actually took dmg that he assumed it was overpowered
