What bothers me is this: this removed a lot of Warrior survivability. Where is our increased tankyness to compensate? Even Warriors who do not go all ’zerker are relying on Pies/Ghosts to survive.
this comment is rich. warriors whining about PVE.
i don’t know… i quit dungeons when i get a fail group. why should i be punished twice because i ended up in a terrible pug?
also it isn’t just raging. there are many legit reasons for people to leave that i can understand. they are easy to replace.
as for everyone being kicked when the leader leaves, that needs to be fixed.
thieves got a buff. i almost can’t believe it (i’m lying i totally believe it after seeing anet employees rocking thief in wvwvw)
i guess we should all just bail and turn wvwv into tvt.
Because thieves got a slight buff to one of the healing skills no one uses?
Yeah, definite call to all roll thieves.
/sarcasm
the point is thieves needed a vast nerf and they got buffed instead regardless of how small the buff was (it also wasn’t just the healing).
if you don’t think thieves own wvwvw you’re living in a fantasy land.
- You can get ascended earrings from Guild Missions
i play in a small guild though so apparently Anet feels i am not entitled to guild missions.

Before anybody starts going off on it, the coming (very hopefully retroactive) achievements giving laurels will only lessen the pain.
Do we know for sure that the currency rewarded for achievement points is definitely going to be laurels? Is there a quote on this? They could just as easily make a completely new currency for the achievement points.
If I do decide to keep working on ascended gear, it is likely that I will complete my set just in time for it to be totally obsolete with GW2’s first expansion and cap raise. lol
well they’ll have to add that in about 18 months just to let the hardcore players get the stuff that is already here at all. to allow the more casual players to get it? some will take 24 months to get it and most will never get it at all.
the amount of time needed just defies all reason.
i tried to do 40 kills in ascalon but it stopped counting them at 55% so i logged off.
i saw an Anet employee playing a thief in WvW and suddenly it all made sense.
i doubt any employees play ranger, so they get screwed.
laurels are out of control. i suppose the idea behind this is to keep us playing by requiring us to complete a daily every day to try and keep the time required to get ascended slightly less insane?
assuming you get a laurel every day it will take:
30 days for amulet
80 days for the other two ( also ectos because those are tacked onto everything)
rings can be done in fotm more easily. (if you don’t do fotm i feel extra bad for you)
completing 3 monthlies can take 30 days off which leaves a total of 80 days (assuming you do it every single day).
now 80 days might not be so bad (imho it is) but consider that many people use multiple gear sets and have multiple 80s. i myself have 3 80s. i only use two and those two each have 2 sets of gear. that means i’ll need 4 amulets, 8 rings and 8 earrings. i don’t even need to do the math to start laughing (even if i get rings from fotm)
is it really logical to require us to play each day for upwards of a year to get our gear? i’ve played grindy mmos, but this is just in a whole new realm of crazy.
PS: this is ignoring all the nice infusions at 20 days each.
the strong classes got stronger and the weak classes got weaker.
fantastic.
it’s a terrible terrible patch. the few good things are far overshadowed by all the incredibly bad things that were added.
logic was thrown out the window on this one.
1. laurel requirements for ascended amulets. if you have more than 1 character at 80 or you enjoy wearing more than 1 armor set you’re in for a treat. enjoy spending 12 months + to get your gear.
2. guild missions. if you’re in a small guild that’s too bad for you. only large guilds can have new content.
3. terrible balance. if you don’t play a thief, ele or mesmer go away. they’ll get buffed and you’ll get nerfed.
seriously. i suggest that the devs review all of these things. all the things listed are totally ridiculous.
i disagree. i don’t think it was ever intended to be so effective. it was similar to perm invis for thieves on walls. i don’t mind the change, but i do facepalm the other nerfs we got, especially when thieves got buffed AGAIN.
you mean you don’t think it’s fair that to put out the DPS other classes can in 1-2 hits we need 10?
so we get nothing again and thieves and d/d eles get buffed. WHAT
long bow in wvwvw is great for holding back zergs and making people scatter. i find myself using number 4 to smack people away a lot as well. 1 is meh and 2 only works effectively vs stunned/rooted enemies.
it can do decent dmg if they can’t dodge all the shots. 3 is always helpful to help take down fleeing targets etc…
personally i think the longbow is far better for group pvp than the shortbow which has no AoE.
rangers are fun to play, but after all you do is die to the same three classes over and over (thieves, eles, mesmers) and get outdps’d by almost every other class while wearing glass cannon armor at much higher risk it starts to get old.
ranger is sub-par regardless of how fun it is to play.
i would use pigs if they came and gave me the item. i am ranged in dungeons and i don’t want to run in to get the item.
if pigs were ranged i’d use them, but as they are the only time to use it is on swap which i don’t much care for. i could use stalker for might. i think it is more valuable than 2s of invis.
that’s not glow that’s the light hitting your armor. that happens in real life too.
With those out of the way, I’d also like to point out that WvW is a horrible place to make any observation on anything, as it’s simply the most terrible example of what’s actually going on in the rest of the game. All balance is thrown out the window. Player skill means nothing. So of course you’ll see a lot of something that works well for whatever they think they’re accomplishing.
then it should be balanced separately. fact is you’re right, player skill means nothing when thieves, D/D eles, and shatter mesmers trample rangers, necros and engis by facerolling the keyboard.
in a zerg it matters less (although thieves, d/d eles, and mesmers can run circles around smaller zergs) because in a 30 v 30 individuals matter less, but in small groups (like camp taking squads) the difference is insane.
rangers, necros and engis need a HUGE buff to be on par with the three listed above. i wouldn’t be sad to also see those classes get nerfed.
thief gets heavily rewarded by running glass cannon and have nothing to fear from using it. invis is better than any armor. they also have some of the best dmg in the game, which is totally backwards with current stealth mechanics.
eles have so much mobility they can run circles around large groups of players. they also have access to large burst (7.9k fire grab). 1v1 they beat almost everything but thieves.
shatter mesmers can 1 shot most players with a shatter. the shatter does far too much dmg considering how fantastically easy to pull off.
the rangers, necros and engis are paper in glass cannon armor, have terrible DPS considering the risks of running in said armor. to spec into toughness and survivability means giving up nearly all your dmg, and doesn’t really mean diddly when you still get hit upwards of 8k with 1 attack.
a ranger can pump out a 8k attack, but it takes them 10 hits to do it and can be easily avoided. other classes put out that dps over and over by pushing 1 button.
it’s totally broken.
Wouldn’t it be hilarious to display your guild logo on your pet?
imagine a siamoth running around with a logo on its sides. yes please.
Yeah but he wasn’t talking about AC. He said CoF and I am not sure scaling works that way. As in, I don’t think the scale cares what armour your wear but just scales down from your total stat numbers. But I never did figure out the scaling properly.
your stats decrease as your level increases, as the scaling is procentual, the stats on gear aren’t.
and yes, people still think they can run any dungeon with subpar equipment – they can, if they find a team dragging them through. implying they’re anything than a burden to a good team is just wishful thinking. in a bad team, a good lowlvl player might still pull more weight than an 80 though.
i died the least in most of my AC parties. i may have been in low level gear, but the trick to dungeons is knowing the fights. an 80 in exotics that doesn’t know to dodge kohler’s pull is far more of a burden than an 80 in 35 rares that doesn’t go down on every pull.
I use Signet of Renewal. It’s a stun breaker and removes all your conditions (including immobilize). It also removes a condition every 10 seconds which is really useful (although I suppose people use the trait – which I don’t). And on top of that, it doesn’t jump you backwards back into the zerg. So no evade and no vigor and no damage, but who really needs those when it can’t break immobilize?
it’s really the only option. lightning reflex dmg is negligible and the vigor is great for letting you stay alive 2 seconds longer in the zerg you just jumped into.
underwater it rockets you about 50 miles. i use it sometimes in HoTW to avoid the guy’s spear rush thing but it often sends me right into a group of mobs.
i leveled to 80 in 35 rares in AC. i didn’t really notice a difference. i don’t think your stats decrease if you keep the same armor, so wouldn’t you be just as good in AC as an 80 in 35 rares than a 35 in 35 rares?
The only situation where lightning reflexes is bad is when running away from a zerg. If you’re already in combat, and were able to be stunned, no matter which way the skill went you were going to die.
that’s not true at all. the reason it kills you is because it shoots you back into the zerg. i’ve run away from zergs many times with normal stunbreakers. rangers have few stunbreakers as it is when compared to classes like guardian, and in the case of lightning reflexes, not much of a secondary effect.
consider that guardians have stand your ground and save yourselves. 1 gives you stability and retaliation, and the other gives you about a million buffs. ranger stunbreaker shoots you backward on a 45 second CD (36 traited) compared to 24 and 48 seconds for guard.
i think that the direction of the travel should go in the direction that you are traveling in. if i push backward and activate it i should go backward. if i’m pushing forward i should go forward etc…
it would make this skill far more valuable. as it is, there’s no reason to use it imo, even in dungeons as they are usually too cramped to use fully anyway.
i agree. stability stompers can still take a lot of dmg and quick stompers can be interrupted.
you can’t do anything if you can’t see someone stomping, or can’t hit the person stomping.
Its not the weapon…..L2..
If six digit crits are an irritant than thats fine with me and rolling wont save you.
What? Same as auto attack? Ive had crits of 12 13 and 14k with the last 3 of those 10 shots from rapid fire.
So I’m going through this thread (Because I love the “debates”) and I just can’t but notice this person’s responses. Sounds like some people still think that each damage number in the Rapid Fire sequence is the individual shot’s damage instead of total damge of the channel. Would explain a lot of the die hard LBow fans.
my ranger gets 11-12k rapids quite often. i don’t think that’s bad at all when you add in pet dmg and trap dmg. of course this is PVE, where nothing dodges so you can actually land 10/10 shots instead of 3-4/10.
i even hit a 17k rapid on a veteran ogre in wvwvw but i was so surprised i didn’t get a screenshot.
yeah give us killshot and warrior dmg to replace our terrible bow dmg.
it’s kind of sad that the RANGEr is outclassed at RANGE by the warrior.
up down up down up down.
One of my major issues with the downed system is when i am revived only to be instantly downed again. whether the revive comes from a player or the death of a mob, it is frustrating to be downed 3 times in 5 seconds.
i want to see maybe 5s of invulnerability on revive to actually give us a chance to get out of a bad situation.
i also die when i enter fractals.
i’ll quit the game. the fact that mesmers, thieves and eles are already so far beyond rangers, engis and necros is a hard pill to swallow. if it gets worse instead of significantly better i’m just going to leave.
then you’ve wasted a stun breaker and also slowed yourself down with the turning. then of course there’s plenty of other skills you can use to create a gap to much better effect.
fact is, lightning reflexes is garbage unless you’re facing your opponent.
turn around while stunned. why didn’t i think of that?! oh wait…
5 thieves obviously.
if 1 thief can take 10 on its own 5 can take 50.
Ele, I would kill you all
you’d just get shot by law enforcement or worse, be taken to a lab and experimented upon.
i’d be a thief so i could steal stuff.
(hey at least i’m honest)
this skill should be fixed because it almost always fails when you’re stunned, has a 45s CD, and most of all, shoots you backwards, making it utterly useless for most scenarios.
when i’m running away from a zerg in wvwvw the last thing i need is to blast right back into the middle of them. i like the idea of the evade, but it should be directional. we have few stunbreaks as it is and this one is just broken.
oh no i didn’t capitalize! that must change the whole meaning of my post!
breh, your post didn’t even make sense. you literally didn’t write in the english language. it’s not my fault you can’t form a coherent sentence.
…just going to keep on derailing and trolling in this thread instead of a PM where no one else has to waste time reading it, huh?
Why you think “that’s not English” would bother me given this is the internet and English being someones first language is not a requirement to posting on the boards, I have no idea.
I’m sorry that you don’t understand the basic context and point of “think and you’re dead thieves”, that’s not really something I’m going to lose sleep over, it’s right there in my first post. Knock yourself out and read it again and maybe keep the thread on topic?
You don’t want to believe I can kill thieves? a) I’m FAR from the only person on the board that knows what they are doing with a ranger and how to kill thieves and b) lol at a ranger not able to kill thieves to the point they need a video to prove it to them.
you left out the second part of my post but i’ll bite. “think and you’re dead thieves” does not make sense.
please good look up the difference between their, they’re and there (although the sentence still won’t make any sense).
if you want people to believe your claims then back them up! you just keep repeating yourself without backing it up!
lol all you want, but until you can back it up, i consider you to be a thief trying to protect your OPness.
I use this build for everything because I put out bezerker damage
no, you don’t.
There are a lot of how to’s but sure this works on the rogue that doesnt know what the hell he is doing and duh your stun is supposed to be broken out of its part of the routine i really have to break it down for you dont i? Heres how every other class works in pvp warriors have to use bollas to get 100 blades and mesmers have to use another like curtain to pull them to you on the ground which you can stability out of then you use blurred frenzy its all part of the gameplay. and to me initiative after 80 really does renew rather more quickly than my CD’s and a counter against the thief is the thief? so you suggest everyone plays thieves?….
If you don’t know how to fight a class, what’s the best way to learn?
how about you play one of the screwed 3 (ranger, necro, engi) and then come back and tell us thieves are not 1000% better than them.
instead of telling us to L2P or try a thief, how about you come down and see how the other side lives. i don’t need to play a thief to know they are totally broken, but clearly you need to play something that isn’t a thief, ele, mes to know how poor the other classes are.
And I am working on my ranger. So you’ll know soon enough. I have friends who play necro and depending on the thief build they face, it isn’t an issue for them. Oh, and I have friends who play warrior and guardian too and they usually don’t have issues with thieves.
Just saying. I speak from experience and from others’ experiences. If there wasn’t any feasible way of beating a class, then you’d be hearing from me. Thief isn’t one of them for the classes I’ve played so far, and I am willing to bet I will beat thieves on other classes too because I know how thieves fight.
send me a video when you do!
no screens. i’m sad.
I bet he ran by a guy /sleeping and thought the guy was dead, and then he got ganked and now he’s crying, lol.
haha i once saw a guy with a raptor potion hiding in the raptors on the borderlands map.
it was actually hilarious
a zerker ranger with a jaguar and traps can do a lot of dmg. not as much as a warrior but it’s nothing to sneeze at.
having played a gaurdian and now a ranger i can say my DPS is far far better as a ranger than a guardian.
Seriously hope your not trying to compare a guard to a ranger. Guardian’s have party-wide stability, prot, regen, reflect, aegis, and burning with the ability to ball up most trash mobs with GS 5. Add in the might stacks on crit plus the staff and its a no brainer.
sure they do, but last time i checked, rangers also have party wide buffs and other utilities as well.
staff is garbage for anything except 4. most decen players abandon the staff in favour of something like sword/focus.

You are viewing balancing only from PvP point of view. If they buff all of them together, they would have to buff PvE difficultly too. 90% of balance they did so far, they nerfed something and buffed another thing in one proffesion.
Most people use similar build, because it is “the best”. By nerfing & buffing together they can make more viable builds to play with.
the classes that are terrible at PVE are the same ones that are terrible at PVP.
the exception is the thief, who is the god of PVP but only mediocre at PVE (they still have the potential to beat the “screwed 3”.
the tiers seem to go:
1. thief, ele, mesmer
2. warrior, guardian
4. ranger, engi, necrothe gap between the first tier and the 3rd tier is mind bogglingly vast.
oO some rated necro and ranger even BELOW wars,
wars are 1 of the worst pvp classes. same goes to thiefs but people still think back stab combo is op therefor the class should be a t1 class
i hope this is an attempt at humor.
go up against a real 80 thief and you’ll be finished in seconds. then you’ll be invis stomped. the amount of DPS they do is ridiculous and that’s not even mentioning the stealth.
Still waiting to find one of these godly thieves that can kill me just by blinking or thinking on a T2, T1 server or in tPVP or sPVP where we play whatever our server.
Are they a powerful, easy to play class? Sure. Can they kill me? Nope. Honestly, I’m just not buying it anymore.
I find it fun evading with sword and close to pema vigor if they close on me with a cooldown, leaping well back out of their range with LR, HS and watching them try and close the gap, blowing all their cooldowns to get back into stealth because my pet stays back and they can’t use C/D.
would you like a trophy for your claims without anything to back said claims up?
No no, please do continue to tell us all about the amazing think and you’re dead thieves, I can’t wait to meet them.
i wish i could understand this post but i’m not fluent in gibberish.
Says the guy with 3 punctuation mistakes in the space of one sentence.
Worthless trolling and thread derailing on the other hand, that you’re fluent in.
PLEASE if you have anything else to say, send it in a PM so I can ignore it there and no one else has to listen to us argue about how you can’t kill decent thieves.
oh no i didn’t capitalize! that must change the whole meaning of my post!
breh, your post didn’t even make sense. you literally didn’t write in the english language. it’s not my fault you can’t form a coherent sentence.
anyway, when you post some proof of yourself killing thieves or whatever then i’ll listen, but atm you’re arguing that you can own thieves with zero proof to counter the hours of video available that show thieves dominating everyone of every class.
please tell us your secret magic build that makes you find thieves so easy to kill. so far all you’ve said is that you kill thieves without offering even a build to defend your claims.
so… it’s a mesmer?
i use sup fire on longbow.
i’m not sure if it can crit on barrage or not.
i’m speechless.
