Look, you’re a reasonable person, look at what he has said since and tell me it’s all about his 1 day hospital visit.

I’ve been reading it and I realize that he hasn’t responded much since then. I just think it might be erroneous to assume that whatever he had done, wasn’t large enough (recovery wise) to warrant him choosing to recuperate, rather than post. If you look, you’ll see that he hasn’t been posting in any other forum since then.

Also, I’m not saying that is the reason, just pondering if that could be the reason. =)

I think that a lot of people are too focused on trying to point out flaws in the addition of Fractal Lore. The purpose of brainstorming is to come up with ideas and then improve upon them, not shoot them down outright.

I find it seriously hard to believe the people claiming “Had I thought my lover dead and suddenly they woke, my first reaction would be to get them to safety.” I call bullkitten on that. The first thing you’re going to experience is Love and Relief, not Logic. Heck, even Rox and Braham weren’t scrambling for the exit at that time and neither of them were going through the same thing as Kasmeer.

The regular and loyal fractal players are not in it for one time lore stories and easy dailies and that means they are in it for fun, challenging, rewarding and replayable content.

Quoted for truth ! Lore can be nice, but the most important thing if you want fractals to stay active is replayability, and for this you need balance, rewards, and challenge.

Lore is an important part of the fractals and will continue to be. Replayability, balance, rewards and challenge in no way exclude the ability to continue to tell exciting and meaningful stories in Fractals.

Anyone else dissapointed in Allie for her general lack of participation?

I think she was doing a good job in the beginning, then she just up and disappeared and hasn’t reared her head since.
If your not going to participate in the CDI you started, then what’s the point of the CDI to begin with? We can have these discussions in the Ranger sub forum, for the fat lot of good they do.

Take a page from Chris, comment, often. Even if you have nothing more to add, just let us know your still alive and paying attention.
(Even thou I am sure your still reading and keeping up with it, but that’s not the point.)

They don’t work on the weekends, so this is probably her Friends/Family time.

Also, her title is “Community Coordinator” so, it wouldn’t surprise me if she is limited in what she’s allowed to say, before getting confirmation from one of the Profession Devs.

Give her some more time, I’m sure she’ll do a great job in the end.

Perhaps it would help the Ranger thread, if Allie were able to periodically make a post similar to yours: “I’ve just caught up on pages 7-13, now to discuss these pages with my team!”

I think most posters know she’s doing a great job, but a small post like that to show she’s still around would probably calm the masses, by reminding them that she really is there and paying attention.

(In a slightly related note, I will gladly beg you to run the future Elementalist CDI. =D)

It just seems that the major complaint about the Dredge, is the amount of time it takes to complete it. Each example people point out, involves a major amount of spawns. Couldn’t they just lessen the amount of spawns in those three areas, thus making a considerable reduction in the amount of time needed to complete the Fractal?

The thing to consider is that for the buttons, and blow-the-door encounters, killing all of the spawns isn’t a win condition. They don’t respawn to force you to kill more of them, they respawn to keep the pressure on while you’re doing something else entirely. Reducing the number/speed of respawns changes the difficulty throughout the process but not the length, directly.

In the clown car fight, killing all of them IS a win condition. Reducing the number of respawns changes the length directly.

Direct or indirect isn’t really an issue, as both still reduce time.

I don’t personally have a particular problem with the Dredge Fractal. I just saw a lot of people mentioning that those three areas took a lot of time, due to the amount of Dredge spawning.
So, since “too many dredge = too much time” was their complaint, my solution was to reduce the number of dredge spawning. =)

A few pages back I suggested minor tweaks to the challenges themselves. Other than the dredge car, I don’t feel the amount of dredge is an issue. I’d like to say that my suggestions only require to go into the code and change a few values but then that could not be the case. I don’t see any real reason to not make the minor changes since they can always be reverted back if they don’t work out.

From a time/technological standpoint, would Dredge not be the faster/simpler thing to fix?

Depends very much on how it’s done.

I think my preferred solution would be to simply remove Rabsovich and company.

Then you have 3 major encounters that provide a nice pendulum swing from

Test of Durability requiring some coordination (the buttons/panel)
Test of Durability and Coordination (blasting open the door)
Test of Coordination requiring some durability (End-Bosses)

Right now the Clown Car just interrupts the flow with a big fat test of patience .

Conversely, in the Swamp Fractal I’d make Bloomhunger a mandatory mid-boss and Mossman the mandatory end-boss. The current variability does not make it a better fractal and its simply too short.

Which those two elements in place and re-rolling dead on the floor, I also very much like the idea of getting rid of the fixed tiers – make it random selection again. Some extremely long Fractals can be flagged to lock each other out (e.g. getting Cliffs prevents any other tagged choices for the rest of the run) but mostly we’re back to some real hold-your-breath mystery on what’s the next load-in will bring.

I don’t claim to know a lot about coding a video game, but it seems like they could just use the same lines of code, but change the number used to denote the amount of spawns. If that is true, it would take a lot less time than actually removing certain points altogether and then having to connect the remaining points.

They’re Hunters, Druids, and Beastmasters all in one! Little too much emphasis on the beastmaster, but still….

The only things they have, that come remotely close to druidic roots are the spirits. That might make up a 1/4 of their abilities. The other 3/4 falls reliably under Hunter. They’re actually very similar to a more historical version of Native Americans (I’m sure other Native groups could fit this as well) and even they took up the rifle once it became available.

oh I’m not against Rifle for Rangers (anymore), but seriously, having a focus, an entire traitline called “Nature Magic” isn’t enough to be called Druid?

And also, There is a very big difference between dropping a person at 300+ yards by making a sucessful headshot, and sneaking up to 50 yards of an animal before taking aim. For that reason, I say that ‘Marksmanship’ is also not the same as ‘Hunter’.

There’s a reason why Rangers arent called Hunters. For one Thing, Hunters just sounds weak and lame. For another, we do alot more things than hunting (of which, we actually do very little of in this game). Atleast let our name sound cool!

Haha, I get why they’re not called Hunters, I’m just saying that they lean much closer to that part of the spectrum, than they do towards the Druidic side.

I don’t really think the name of a Trait Line is a good determination of the role a class plays. I mean, the Elementalist has the Arcane trait line and Mesmers have one called “Chaos” but you wouldn’t really use those words as role descriptors. =)

Weapons I see that fit for the Ranger are:

Daggers, Swords, Axes, Maces, Torchs, Shortbows, Longbows, Recurvebows, Crossbows, Quarterstaffs, Staffs, Halberds, Warhorns, Whips, Flails, Shields, Greatswords, Hammers, Halberds, Claws

No Rifles, no Pistols!! These should be the only exception, because they simply don’t fit to the natural design of the Ranger.
If one wants these weapons, he/she should go play Warrior,Thief/Engineer, because thats the classes, where Pistols and Rifles partwise do fit or fully fit.
If it would go after me, in my opnion should be at all only the Engineer the only clas,s that should be able to wield these 2 weapons, because for me it makes absolutely 0 sense that thiefs wield loud pistols and warriors wield rifles, where I just think, thats there just so that the Warrior has more options than only the longbow for ranged combat >.>

This makes absolutely no sense. The Ranger is the one class where a Rifle fits in perfectly. Every single aspect of their design cries out “Hunter.” They have a pet as a hunting partner, they sets traps and use poison to catch their prey, and they use natural springs for healing (basically living off the land). How people feel that a great sword or staff fits into that mechanic, but a Rifle doesn’t, I have no idea.

No. The Zodiac weapons were inspired by the weapon set of the same name from GW1:

In GW1, the Zodiac weapons only dropped from 2 Elite dungeons (The Deep, and Urgoz’s Warren).

It looks like the armor artists decided to run with the theme and create armor matching the GW2 Zodiac style as well.

I knew about the Zodiac weapons from GW1. I was just wondering if all of that came from the Celestial stuff in GW1. I just wasn’t sure which one came first. =)

Topic Title: Fractal Lore

Goal of Proposal

Add Lore to the individual Fractals to enhance the Fractals experience.

Proposal Overview

Add a “File System” to Dessa’s computer in the Mistlock Observatory. Each file could represent one of the Fractals and contain a piece of artwork along with Dessa’s notes about that particular Fractal.

Proposal Functionality

This would use part of the environment already built into the game and would only need and interactive function added, rather than any new environments or items.

Associated Risks

I think the risk would be minimal. I believe adding the interactive function to Dessa’s computer, artwork, and text would require considerably less resources than cinematics and/or spoken Dialogue. Players are also able to enter the Observatory alone, at any time, so this wouldn’t require their party to wait while they viewed cinematics. This would also make it simpler to add Lore anytime you released a new fractal.

(from a business standpoint, this should also be a far cheaper solution)

I sort of feel bad for Chris already. I tried to keep my posts short, but every time I come back to the thread I see walls of text that are “formatted”. It’s still difficult to get through.

I really wish people could be more concise, use more lists, and less walls of text.

Anyway, I like a lot of the ideas so far. But it does seem the playerbase is all on the same page here. It would be beneficial to get some developer interaction to see what page they’re on. (But I can’t imagine trying to soak in this many words at once, so I suspect that’s why we aren’t getting too much red yet).

Things are much much more accessible already and whilst we can still improve I just wanted to say thanks to everyone for giving it a try.

Loads of devs have commented to me about the topics being much easier to consume and think about.

So thanks everyone.

Personal choice, I like a full helmet. I can also choose to toggle it on and off.

Because if it just dyed your skin blue, you would still retain all of the features you chose, just in a different flesh tone.

Misconception here. It isn’t simply dyed blue. Most of it is helmet, the area some of you guys would wish to be open and see the face (which would have all sorts of hair clipping issues I am sure) is closed, and blue.

You need to reread what he said and how he said it. He and I both know that it isn’t simply dyed blue.

If the biggest problem with the Dredge Fractal, is the amount of time it takes, couldn’t that be quickly remedied by lessening the amount of spawns in certain areas?

Ex) Lessening the spawns in the Pressure Plate Room, Bomb/Laser Hallway, and Clown Car would speed things up significantly without needing to alter the actual structure of the Fractal in any way.

If the armor just dyed my character’s skin blue, that would be one thing, but it completely eradicates their face and uniqueness by replacing it with a textureless default model.

But how is this different from wearing a fully enclosed piece of armor? My warrior wears a combination of armor that shows no skin and doesn’t show his face. I don’t see the difference here.

Because if it just dyed your skin blue, you would still retain all of the features you chose, just in a different flesh tone.

I wonder how that top looks on asuran or charr. will have to take a look. My first thoughts is it won’t look very good.

I’m willing to bet that it’s one of those situations where the Armor for the Asurans and Charr look nothing like the main version. Perhaps that is why we haven’t been able to get this armor in game yet, they haven’t made enough versions for each race/gender?

Even with this new Zodiac armor, there is a noticeable difference between those two races, compared to the others.

That armor code on anyone but a female human does indeed look nothing like the picture above. Because they come out nude.

Really?! LOL that’s funny. I just went digging around for the code, so she could see it, then tried it on my Mesmer (Human Female). Oops =(

Blue skin ruins it, so I won’t buy it, but still I have to admit that this armor is a beautiful design, I just prefer more simple and natural armors over the shiny ones. I would die for this though:

I think it was one of the armors that was initially available in Beta, but then removed for actual release. I know there were also some hairstyles like that, that still haven’t appeared. I wonder why it still is available?

Also, I’m very curious about it being classified as Heavy Armor.

Removing the pet was something that was discussed in initial design of the class, but it is such an integral part of the Ranger’s design and philosophy.

There might be some ways that we can redesign the pet and it’s AI, but those are big projects. For the time being, we are happy to take any suggestions regarding the pet.

Would it be simpler (or even possible) to alter the “Stow Pet” ability, so that the pet stays stowed until you manually click to Unstow it? This might be a good way to pacify the population until more concrete improvements could be made.

(For the most part, I really enjoy having a pet, but there are a certain situations where I’d prefer it to stay stowed until I’m ready for it again.)

Also, please add in Alpine Stalkers. I love white tigers and that was my primary motivation to roll a Ranger. Then I found out the Alpine Stalkers weren’t Tamable yet. LOL

Astral Projections and I just met in game – Some other things to note: Sylvari don’t have nipples at all, so this is limited to Humans and Norn. I’m still looking for someone that is Human or Norn and has the Medium (or Light, in a pinch) version so we can compare in-game representations. Medium is preferable because as I’ve noted before, for some bizarre reason the Light version doesn’t have actual nipples, just the areolas… yikes.

That’s actually pretty interesting. I thought it would be a placeholder for an armor part that they eventually decided to leave out.. if it’s not present in sylvari but exists on human and norn breasts, then what are they supposed to be? -_-

Considering how much trouble you have to go through, in order to get them to partially show up (and only at certain angles at that) should tell everyone that it’s not intentional and only the result of crappy graphics. They aren’t even located in the same location on each breast.

Oh, and as for more feedback:

I think this armor is gorgeous as is and hope it remains in the game, unchanged.

However, I would also love it if the artists made a separate “reskin” of the non-Zodiac parts of the Light Armor, but with alterations to the chest (maybe something like the Human T3 Light Chest) and shoes without the curls. the non-Zodiac parts remind me of Oracles or Priestesses and that’s what I’ve wanted to dress my Elementalist in for many months now. =D

The funniest part about it, is that back when there was a glitch with the original Flamekissed Armor, that caused your character to appear totally nude, their bodies were just smooth like Sims, with no sexual features.

It’s not even painted skin. It’s a sculpted material that covers the vast majority of the character’s actual flesh, just like that Batman and Robin armor I posted.

Also, why is it, that in every picture you’ve posted claiming that this armor shows nipples, the character only has ONE?

You are literally making things up and completely ignoring evidence to the contrary. It’s not sculpted anything. The armor turns your character’s skin blue. I posted the proof in image form, you can see where I overlapped two screenshots of the same character with and without it. There is no change in physical proportions to prove your claim that it’s something added over top of the character’s body. At all.

As far as the multiplication of nipples is concerned, I see two. Have you even looked at it in game? It’s pretty obvious there too.

Manipulated screenshots =/= proof. I’ve been toying with my camera on my Mesmer, trying to figure out what you’re allegedly seeing and still can’t make them show up. I managed to get ONE of those white swirls in the armor to line up “correctly” and look like your screenshot, but that’s not a nipple.

It’s called selective perception.

As a woman and with lots of medical knowledge, I can say : Nipples are not that high, even on surgically doctored chests (Unless there is some serious misplacement or serious issue as to why they can not be placed back into their normal location.)

As a woman with 36 UK H sized breasts on a petite body, I can tell you that boobs don’t have that shape in the first place. Breasts do not have a symmetrical circular shape and are not that high on the chest. Boobs cannot be supported by the small amount of cloth/metal/etc that is used and it’s placement.
You know what? It doesn’t change that they still have done it this way and people are putting down the ones who are critical about it as “prudes” when it is simply about human anatomy.
But hey, you’re surely gonna say “it’s fantasy, boobs are allowed to defy physics”… facepalm

I don’t believe you read what I said at all, did you? Nor looked at the photos posted that showed where everyone is saying they can see such things. Nipples would not be that high up on the breast, it’s just ridiculous. I said nothing more. Nothing about size, definition or anything. Simply put… one’s nipples, naturally wouldn’t be up over the top pectoral area. Nearly on your shoulder? Nooo. It’s just strange and clearly the appearance of these ‘nipples’ are simply shading issues that weren’t corrected.

But hey, keep on keeping on and why not tell the boys the depth of your kitten-..l canal next time! Keep it classy!

Did you notice that, several of the people claiming to see “nipples” have also stated that they’ve had to do things such as turn off post-processing or otherwise limit their graphics in order for the “nipples” to show up?

Danicia is obviously watching the thread, in order to gather up the feedback. I have little doubt that she’s mentioned the Flesh vs Armor discussion, if only to know the answer herself. The art devs could quite simply tell her the answer and let her post it, if they aren’t able to do so themselves.

That’s completely absurd.

In the construction of the shoulder plates, you would build the large, functional “cup” part that surrounds your shoulder joint, and then cast the Magic Sparkle Enchantment on the ornamental part, affixed to the functional part after the fact. Then you would cast it on your skin before donning the unenchanted parts of the armor. Done.

I don’t see anyone addressing my texture point. To be clear, I’m talking about this image, not the close-up of the medium armor.

No, it’s quite logical.

The weapons are made of Zodiac Material, the Shoulder and Head Armor are made of Zodiac material, but the body armor is just flesh converted to “Magic Sparkle”? Not logical.
