The one in the picture was designed by Kekai Kotaki, I believe it makes a good example.

We also need more tight light armor since we already have heaps of coats, like catsuits ala G.I. Joe’s Baroness.

I want that, take all my money!

Chris,

Do you think that it would be possible to have a CDI with the Art Team on occasion? I think it would be fun to talk to them about armor and learn how they choose what to add, as well as learn what isn’t possible for them to do.

I think that’d be more suitable to an AMA-style event. I’m not terribly certain the average player could give really useful criticisms to the graphic artists and 3-d modelers. That would have to be far more technical in tone, y’know?

I wasn’t really thinking that such a topic would be on the same scale as the CDIs have been so far. I just think it would be nice to be able to communicate with the artists in the same way that we’ve been conversing with Chris and Bobby.

It would be nice to get some official answers to some of the armor questions that people have ben curious about.

I wish some of the art Devs would post in some of the armor topics so we could talk to them. =/

They do good work, I’d just like some feedback on whether or not it is possible that they might take some of these ideas into consideration.

I dislike it when people post pictures of the Aion armor here. It depresses me. LOL

In all seriousness, I would LOVE it if ANet would release some more sophisticated armor in GW2. I like making my Light Armor classes look like they’re all dressed up. However, it is hard to do that (currently) because there are no high heels or fancy armor.
I’m sure it would be possible to add some though, because the art team already makes some beautiful armor designs.

Forum Warrioring is one thing, when it’s directed at other servers. It’s something else entirely when directed at your own people. Having a different opinion is almost entirely forbidden on the WvW section of the EBay Forum.

“I would normally post on Ehmry but I keep getting the cold-shoulder there.

This thread is hilarious. For a couple of weeks we’ve been subjected to listening to Ehmry complain about how FA is a blob server who only wins with numbers. Yet the first opportunity you get to double-team someone you jump at it and then pass off the score as skill?

SBI, you’re used to this. Don’t give up, it’s only the weekend. This is what life is like after the achievement hunting is done in a week."

You picked one of the worst server forums to try to communicate on. Unless you’re one a select few posters, they treat everyone like crap (including server mates). There is a big reason our server has seen a mass exodus of players to other servers. Unfortunately, they’re too busy being Elitist Forum Warriors to care.

Bobby,
I’m moving this up in the thread to get your input on the idea. Is this something that could untie your hands when it comes to the Living Story?

Chris,

What do you and the other Devs think about the idea of having a static server that people are transported to for their personal story? People could play on their main server with all of their friends and participate in the LS, while still being able to complete the personal story as intended. It would also give you guys the freedom to change the world as you see fit, without being anchored down by the Personal Story.

The switch could be something simple like the NPC is the Mad King’s Labyrinth, where talking to him transports you to the Inquisition or Clocktower.

I think this is an interesting idea. Let’s flesh it out some more. Can you give me some more details around your idea?

Chris

Hi Chris,

Well, first off, I’m not the most technologically gifted person, so hopefully I don’t make this sound super hard to accomplish. LOL

I was thinking that we could do something similar to Guild Wars 1, where you guys had a Pre-Searing and Post-Searing. However, seeing as to how Guild Wars 2 is much longer, I thought there could be a separate server for the Personal Story, that left the map unchanged.

During “regular” play, the players would play on their home server (let’s say, Ehmry Bay) and participate in Events, World Bosses, and Living Story events along with everyone else.

Then, whenever people wanted to work on their Personal Story, they could speak to an NPC in one of the cities, and be transported (along with their party) to a separate server reserved entirely for Personal Story (similar to the way WvW is done), up until Zhaitan’s defeat. Orr would remain “dead”, all the main NPCs would remain alive, etc. Whenever they were tired of doing story, they could use the NPC to go back to Ehmry to play with the rest of the server.

Then, on the Ehmry Bay server, you could move your living story forward in whatever way you choose. Your story calls for Queen Jennah the Shoeless to be assassinated? Go ahead, because she’s still alive on the Personal Story server. You want to show the results of Trahearne cleansing Orr and the Pact rebuilding? It’s cool, because it’s still dead on the PS Server.

This idea would basically server everyone. The new players have an untouched world to complete their stories in, hardcore players can finally see the fruits of their labor in map changes/expansion, and the Devs get the shackles of the PS removed to allow a greater flow of creativity.

Hopefully, I did a better job of elaborating on this idea. Any questions, just ask and I’ll try to do better.

Also, as a small edit, I think the Heralds (that are already in place in the Major Cities) would be the perfect NPCs for the transitioning.

I think where the failure is lies in the rewards. You don’t get nowhere near enough rewards for doing DEs compared to other things, because karma is not very useful. Also, doing something extremely short and simple like killing a champion gives the same if not more rewards than a long DE like escorting someone, so no one does the escorts.

We agree, this is something we’ve been discussing a lot lately and working on some various answers for, but I’m curious:

What rewards would you like to see from rewards? Would they be different when you’re leveling up than when you’re level 80? What would motivate you to want to go around the world playing as many different events as possible, rather than the same 4-5 over and over again?

Some of the fun challenges we are currently solving, but it’s great to hear peoples thoughts on this subject as well.

I wouldn’t mind if you guys tossed in some higher level materials in the reward chest. Ancient Wood, Orichalcum, stuff like that.

I’ve noticed that it has been mentioned several times, that the LS is somewhat hindered by the personal story and new players. So, I was wondering if anyone has considered following the GW1 path and basically giving GW2 a Pre-Searing (Zhaitan) and Post-Searing (After killing Zhaitan) phase?

New players could still complete their original story, while older players could begin to see the fruits of their labors.

Would something like that be possible?

I think the difficulty with that is that pre-Searing was a relatively small part of the overall game, and as a tutorial area it could easily be separated. There were players who chose to stay in pre-Searing indefinitely, but it didn’t have an impact on the overall game due to how isolated it was.

In the case of doing something like that with GW2, huge areas of the world would have to exist as separate versions, and any way they could pull that off as far as technology goes would probably cause bigger problems for the game and the playerbase than it would solve. I do agree that the personal story potentially hinders the living story, and it’s one of the things I’m most concerned about, but I think the most straightforward solution is to not insist on preserving the world for the sake of one piece of content while the goal of the entire current marketing and development strategy hinges on the idea that the world is constantly changing. It might cause some awkwardness, but so did doing GW1 campaigns out of order (as well as GW Beyond content) when the timeline had clearly established certain things as having happened in the past.

I had thought that maybe they could send players onto a special server for the story. Then, once you beat the story, you go to the Main Maps. That one server could stay static, while the main servers evolve as people play.

I think the Living Story has had a good base implemented in the game, for which to build upon. I know it isn’t perfect, but it is still a great start.

Some things that I think might help improve the LS are:

Map Changes – the way you started altering Kessex Hills by taking out the forest and town and adding piles of wood underwater was a great idea. If the world is allegedly changing, then we should see more of things like that. Orr, especially, needs to start improving in appearance. Perhaps starting with the parts closer to the “safe” zones?

Achievements – perhaps we could switch from the short span of Achievements, to the Meta Achievement system you’re using for WvW? I think that would give people a greater period of time to earn them, without making people feel like they had to focus on Cheevos, rather than other content.

Rewards – things like permanent harvesting nodes are great. Let’s add more worthwhile rewards. Maybe an Armor piece for the bigger Achievements, that could be saved to create a COMEPLETE (all 6 pieces, not just a stand alone piece) set over a few arcs?

Skin Wardrobe System – A lot of the rewards we’ve been able to earn so far have been skins. Unfortunately, we don’t really have a way to use them again at a later time, after earning a new skin. Is there some way to combine the PvP Locker with the Achievement System for the Achievement weapons and armor, to create a PvE locker?

Scarlet – I actually like her. However, maybe we could get a bit more info released about her to flesh her out? I mean, I’m almost positive that she’s a Dragon’s Champion (Mordremoth?) and that that is why she seems to surpass so many other NPCs in terms of ability. I’d like to know more.

After checking out the female Trickster Armor with new dye colors, I’ve come to really like it as well.

Also, The new heavy and medium armors are great because they mix well with several of the other heavy sets. So, if you don’t like the Phalanx leggings because of the exposed skin, they can be replaced with another pair of pants for an awesome new look. I like that we’re starting to get some variety pouring in.

Also, I totally agree with showing skin for both genders.

I want the classes that didn’t make the transition from GW1 to be included in GW2 (Dervish, Paragon, Etc.). If ANet feel that the Primary Archetypes are already covered, then that is fine, just bring in those past classes as Secondary Archetypes/Blended Archetypes.

It makes me sad that I can’t make my female Ele and Mesmer look like that in GW2. They even took the heels away from the Heritage Armor and made it look more "common. =/

Well to be honest, what else could they fill the extra 100 levels with? It’s not like the other 400 levels where the items you could make got better and rarer with time. The only thing rarer than exotics (craftable at lvl 400) is ascended, so there really isn’t the gap fillers from 400-500.

My guess is that those In-Between levels will consist of different skins for the Exotic Stats already unlocked.

Q: Are we supposed to report Invasion AFKers?

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: videoboy.4162

videoboy.4162

No one said anything about banning people for going AFK, like the people in the center of the Pavilion do. The question was about those few AFKers that deliberately try to trick the computer into thinking that they are actively playing, while being Akitten order to reward themselves. That was the discussion we were having in game.

As an aside, there IS an AFK function in the game.

Q: Are we supposed to report Invasion AFKers?

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: videoboy.4162

videoboy.4162

So OP how can you differentiate between ‘trolling’ afkers and legit afkers?

You want Anet to ban those who merely AFK? Imagine the kittenstorm on this forum?

“Anet you are punishing me for not playing the game and forcing me to always do things when I’m online”

Well, like I’ve said, that flat out stated it. Someone was surprised because he thought he saw bots and stated this in map chat. People mentioned the need to report them and shortly thereafter, the “bots” started complaining because people mentioned reporting them. This happened roughly one minute before the Invasion failed.

The “bots” specifically said that they were running against the rock so they wouldn’t look like they were AFK to the game and could get the reward, because they didn’t want to actually do the event.

Normally, I don’t think I or anyone else on the map would have cared too much. However, it wasn’t a full map of people this time, and we missed Scarlet by one or two mobs. Mobs that could have easily been killed by help from the “bots”. In this particular situation, it cost the rest of the map to miss some of the reward.

As to your question about differentiating between the two types of AFK, I would think seeing someone running against an object, in the same place for the length of multiple events, is quite a bit different than a random person that you pass while they are standing still for a quick AFK.

Q: Are we supposed to report Invasion AFKers?

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: videoboy.4162

videoboy.4162

Geez I hope you don’t start reporting people who are AFK or just standing around, I do that a lot because RL likes to pop in at the worst times and make me leave my desk – especially during a 40 minute raid. How do you know they’re purposely “ruining” the invasion anyhow? I’ve been on a map doing hearts when an invasion popped up and decided to avoid it.

This QQing is getting ridiculous.

No, we were discussing the people that set their characters to run into an object and AFK. We weren’t talking about people that were just standing still, that may have taken a restroom break or something.

But again, as I already stated, this particular group flat out stated that they had intentionally went Akitten order to get rewarded without having to do the event.

Q: Are we supposed to report Invasion AFKers?

in Clockwork Chaos

Posted by: videoboy.4162

videoboy.4162

The most recent people that were seen doing it, finally started talking to people right as the reward was about to pop. They flat out stated that they were Akitteng on purpose. That brought up the discussion on whether or not it was ok, so I just came here and asked.

Q: Are we supposed to report Invasion AFKers?

So many people come to the maps and run at walls or other nonsense that seems to be borderline botting, just to get the reward for everyone else’s hard work. Are we supposed to report these people? If so, is botting the appropriate selection?
