As I mentioned in a similar topic,

Zommoros isn’t trapped in the actual Forge. He’s trapped in one of the upper parts. It is most likely that he is trapped in the Crystal at the very top, because that is the only part small enough for a single human (Miyani) to smuggle on their person.

What happens when the Mystic Forge blows up?

Zommoros isn’t trapped inside the actual Forge. He’s trapped into one of the upper parts of it. His prison is most like the crystal at the very top, since that is the only part small enough for Miyani to be able to carry and smuggle out of Elona.

Although, I’d love it if it got broken during the attack and Zommoros ended up being a major force for Defense against Scarlet and her invasion.

Divinity’s Reach ftw?

LA won’t be destroyed that much, too much of personal storyline is invested in LA. Unless they’re going to revamp everyone’s personal storylines, they’re not going to change LA that much.

They’ve already stated that the PS parts of LA will take place in instances now. So, they can raze the whole thing to the ground if they want to and not hurt the PS.

Timmy, what you’re seeing, in the posts that are over-the-top, are people who love the game, or the potential of it, who are frustrated beyond civility through either 1) actions that have no readily understood rationale (and nobody ever bothers to explain them) or 2) concerns that are seemingly being ignored.

It doesn’t make the posters right – certainly threatening someone is never right. What it makes them is understandable and human.

Part of a job that requires dealing with the public is dealing with people who get over-emotional about things.

I work in a very specialized form of customer service. I see people at their absolute worst. Taking the bad, the threats, the physical harassment (which happens in person, not through anonymous internet postings) is indeed part of the job. Not a pleasant one, but it is certainly something I am actually paid to do.

It is no different for the few Anet employees who’s very jobs are to be in contact with those on the forums. Sometimes people will be less than rational. They are still your paying customers. People whom, indeed, Anet wouldn’t exist without.

I don’t know where you work, but their stance on the bolded part is completely wrong. Most states actually have laws that place your examples under harassment and could place your Employer in serious trouble for trying to tell/force you to deal with them. My knowledge of this comes both from an extensive background in customer service and having a Minor in Human Resources.

Back to the Topic:

Chris,
I’m glad you’ve agreed to choose the CDI topics for the foreseeable future. I may be wrong, but I will like if you are the ones choosing the topics, then we are more likely to address things that your staff is currently looking into and perhaps give them news ways to approach their goals.

Anything someone tells about the story that supposedly comes from the dat file is a spoiler, even if it is just put there to get us off track. So when someone says [insert spoiler] happened in the leaked dat file, then it is a spoiler. If it were true, I am not saying it is, and it would be the exact same way in game, people who accidentally read the spoiler will feel less surprised. So you can say what was leaked but the point was that he must use a spoiler tag for the people who dont want to know what is going to happen. It is true that there were some theories about that this was the case but nothing has been proven as there are a lot of points unexplained or against this theory. I mean no offense to anyone really if it looks that way I am sorry.

If you don’t need your Pristine Fractal Relics anymore, just turn them into regular ones.

Turning useless Relics into even more useless relics is not really an answer. The amount of things available from the Bot Store for relics of both kind is very small. And having ascended rings overflow that all u can do with is sell them for 4s and 95c is just laughable.

I only suggested that you do that, so that they’d go into your Wallet and not take up extra space. =)

Why should we discuss those smaller QoL changes, when the game has huge problems since the beginning?

  • Conditions in PvE
  • CC in PvE
  • Uselessness of support builds
  • Still broken Class-mechanics (Necro: no heal in DS, 2s delay of utilities after leafing DS, … Ranger: pets die to fast, cant hit moving targets, do not scale with the owners stats, … and so on)
  • Stat difference between PvP, WvW and PvE (>30% make balancing impossible)
  • Boss/NPC design doesn’t fit to the rest of the game (1 hit every 5sec, no movement, immune to CC, don’t dodge, just huge life sponges, most of the time no cleaving attacks (vs. stacking), forget about there skills if there in no ranged player, …)
  • 1/3 of your skills can’t be used underwater (probably one of the reasons people hate underwater combat)
  • useless/broken traits on nearly every class since beta
  • useless/broken skills on nearly every class since beta
  • No filtering in the trading post
  • and many more

Why should the CDI concentrate on small UI fixes or quest rewards, when some of the core mechanics are broken since the beginning of the game?

Because a lot of what you just listed would improve the QoL of the game, but are mostly too small and specific to have an entire CDI dedicated to them?

In asking me that question, you just listed a bunch of examples of why it is needed. It also looks like you skipped some CDIs since you listed things we discussed.

If you don’t need your Pristine Fractal Relics anymore, just turn them into regular ones.

I think it might be prudent to have a QoL Update CDI. It would allow everyone to point out some of the smaller things that could be/need to be improved, but aren’t necessarily large enough concerns for an entire thread.

Chris could gradually change the area of focus as the thread went on. Ex: Perhaps he starts off asking what type of Fractal QoL changes we need/want. Let that go for a bit, then ask us about UI QoL, the Crafting QoL, etc.

Dervish Profession

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: videoboy.4162

videoboy.4162

The lore of the dervish does not work in GW2 since the God’s have left the world. Along with what would make them unique over the other classes. Each class has to have a unique play style.

How would the dervish play? What would make them stand out from the other classes. Out of all the ideas thrown around all are similarities to the other classes in gameplay style.

As Anet has stated they will make another class (heavy) if they can think of play style that is different from the other 8 professions.

The gods not being around really isn’t relevant. All of the Priests and Priestesses (including the Risen ones) are still able to tap into the gods’ powers, so there isn’t a reason for the Dervishes not to be able to continue to tap their powers as well.

The suggestions forum was axed so that developers could get the relevant information in their own sub forums, not because players and non anet forumers couldn’t wade through it.

The problem is symmetrical – Devs couldn’t be reasonably expected to look in two forums for matters of importance to them. Player’s shouldn’t be forced to look in two forums to find the most important threads about WvW for example. A WvW CDI belongs in the WvW board where WvW players will find it without checking an arcane schedule over when WvW is active in the CDI boards.

That isn’t difficult to handle. You put a sticky in the WvW section informing us over there that there’s a WvW based CDI in the CDI section and include the link. As passionate as WvW players are, they’ll be over in a heartbeat.

The idea of a CDI section to the forums would work best, I think, if the creation of threads is restricted to ANet people such as Chris. It becomes quite easy to keep the section neat that way, and when a CDI topic is closed all relevant sub-threads can be migrated with it to a historical section for the CDI topics. If the players see an idea come up that they’d like to see have it’s own thread they can simply ask.

This seemed to get buried back on page two, so just throwing it up again.

That’s a really good idea Volkon.

Nike are you quite finished breaking down my post?

Given the lack of dev responses forum-wide, no I don’t think it’s too much to ask for some acknowledgement of an idea that is posted. Further elaboration can be given if needed and expanded upon after that (ie. collaboration), but I want to know I’m being heard first and foremost. Anything that a dev says ’they’ve read’ can be just glanced over without a second thought. You should be bright enough to see that.

Secondly, I don’t really appreciate the condescending tone of your reply to me being in another time zone. This puts me on edge, because those that live in the US and post during the US working hours times are most likely to be responded to. If you’re in among the flood of responses with a critical idea that you think may work that is in among the middle of a sea of posts between dev’s red posts, you’re not likely to be seen at all. Again, it’s not just me with this issue, it’s those in similar circumstances, like I’ve seen in the CDI’s up till this one. Quite a few brilliant ideas I saw come out of those, and only a few were actually acknowledged as being dev-good.

So, tell me, what’s the point of speaking if you stand the chance of not being heard? Speak louder? Stand the chance of being infracted/banned. I get it; you, videoboy, gidorah and a few others are in the dev’s lap right now because you’re seen as being the in-crowd. I’m not the only one who sees this, anyone who responded with the same ‘cliquey’ references has sniffed it out too. This is what makes us nervous. We stand the chance of not being the same priority as the ones responded to most often.

The dev’s are most at fault for this, whether they realise it or not. They open up lines of communication only to apparently ‘hear’ select voices and not everyone. It kind of goes against what the CDI symbolises.

I don’t think that I really count as being in this “clique” that you mentioned. Sometimes I get responded to and sometimes I don’t. The times that I do, it is usually when I participate in discussing a post made by another poster.

I don’t recall seeing Nike mention your Time Zone, but I know that I did. Hopefully, that isn’t the mention that you felt was condescending, because I was actually trying to be encouraging.

I meant what I said, if you have ideas, post them for us. I think most of us would actually enjoy reading them and brainstorming with you. =)

Valandil-

I’ve had Chris respond to me on a few occasions, but I’ve also had some of my posts go COMPLETELY ignored. Posts that were on-topic and – I thought – really interesting. In one case (my suggestion for specific types of Order Missions), I reposted the idea later and got a variety of responses and positive feedback.

You have to remember that keeping up with the thread is a mammoth task for us in addition to Chris. I can, at best, skim most posts. If I see something interesting, I’ll take a moment to read it further.

(This is why I think we need a better format for discussion.)

If there are any ideas you have for how we might be able to better read and promote ideas from each other, please let us know. I think most of us – regardless of whether we’re the cool kids on the thread or not – have the same end goal: making Guild Wars 2 the best game it can be.

We should be working together toward that goal.

I wonder, if adding a function that let you quote and reply to a poster, that also creates a “mini-thread” that could be expanded or collapsed at will, would enhance our discussions? I guess I’m thinking of something similar to way the Huffington Post has their comments section set up.

Dev confirmation - Mining Mechanics

Smooth,

Do you use the wiki??
If we haven’t heard an answer in a few days we could set up a research page on the wiki. I have the Molten Alliance Mining Pick. We could start recording our results on a private page. you with the clockwork and me with the molten one. If we both dont use guildboosts and record for say 5 days we should have consisting data on the subject.

I can use some motivation to start mining all orichalcum notes again on a daily basis

Problem is, I didn’t buy the Watchwork pick. Don’t need to, since I got the Molten one. I’m just hearing reports from people who were willing to buy the new pick, and their mining stories. So far, it’s been all “no bonus ore” from their mining attempts, which ties into the theory that the sprockets replace the extra source ore. I’d prefer an official response, and am hopeful we’ll get one.

Edit – One side note. The “P2W” complainers wouldn’t believe in my research results, since I’m a big GW fanboi. They’d probably think I’m slightly biased.

I’ve gotten both bonuses from mining with my pick. I don’t think one affects the other. You might get one bonus, both bonuses, or no bonuses. I didn’t even think about how it might be a big deal, until I saw your topic.

1. If the T3 Flame Armor wasn’t supposed to exist, then how did it come about?
2. If it truly wasn’t the armor they intended to “ship” to the Gem Store, then why did it take two months to “ship” the intended armor that should have already existed?

For only 800 gems per piece, you can bask in the glory. Once you’ve obtained all 6 pieces, you obtain the title “Sun God”.

I’d like to elaborate on the brainstorming that the CDI’s facilitate, and the time zones that most of the brainstorming is done in. Being on the other side of the world and posting at a certain time (I have no option as to when I post, it’s the only time I can) I feel I miss out on the majority of the ideas thrown about and can’t really contribute to the ongoing nature of the threads because most of the time, someone else will have come up with my idea already..

One thing you may want to attempt, that has helped some of the rest of us:

If someone else posts your idea, don’t be afraid to go ahead an quote them and expand upon the idea with pieces they may not have thought to post. When you do this, you follow along with the exact purpose that these CDIs are for: Brainstorming. Also, once the person sees that you’ve gotten them (even if it’s much later) they’ll want to reply to you and, most likely, expand on your additions.

This constant back and forth, and adding to the ideas, sets up the best discussions we’ve ended up having. Those are also the posts and ideas that the Devs seems to notice the most and then they join in too.

TL;DR? Even if you think you can only add a little (due to your Time Zone) POST ANYWAY!! =D

It makes me sad that the Devs have to keep mentioning that nothing in these threads is concrete. I feel like we could all brainstorm so much better, if we could all get on the same page about that. I have no problem with CDI’s lasting two weeks or longer, so long as discussion warrants it. Some of them have already gone on much longer than that.

What I do have a problem with, is people coming into the threads and complaining that the CDIs doesn’t adhere to their schedule and insulting the people that care enough to make time to participate during the established time frame and insinuating (or flat out stating) that those participants have no lives and are selfish for trying to follow the established schedule. Especially when those people seem to find the time to post, quite often, in other forum threads.

And, even if we ended up with a CDI that was only a week long, 168 hours is plenty of time for someone to post something. However, I’m somehow selfish and/or rude for trying to follow the rules of the thread and not asking for it to be retailored to fit my life schedule. I must be awful.

If people want to participate, they should plan time during the week and not expect this to be scheduled around whenever they feel like showing up.

Uh…even though a majority of the core suggestions have already been discussed, the ability to just jump in, say a piece/proposal, and come back days later is the exact way CDI was meant to be handled, if I understood Chris’ intent correctly.

People have jobs, families, and lives. We can’t expect them to plan a specific timeslot in their day to contribute to the CDI. Contributors should be free to come and go as they please, and the structure of the CDI delivery and discussion should be that a person can re-enter a discussion at any time, with minimal effort to “catch-up” to the current topic or posters.

No, there are 168 hours in a single week. If people choose to participate in these optional threads, then they should set aside a few minutes to speak their piece. They shouldn’t expect everyone else to put things on hold until they feel like showing up.

Personally, I stay quite busy. However, I usually enjoy participating in the CDIs so I make time for it. That time may be late at night or around lunch, but I do it. I don’t ask that the schedule be changed to accommodate me.

If, for some reason, I can’t catch up on all the posts in between my CDI times, then I read all of the Dev posts and catch up that way. There really is no excuse for claiming these threads are too inconvenient to catch up on or participate in.

Don't Make Precursors Craftable

I disagree with the OP. My primary reason is because the Precursor should one of the first ingredients that you’re able to get. The point of the Precursor, is to have a weapon to use, that you’re eventually able to upgrade into a better one. As it currently stands, the Precursor tends to be the last thing most people are able to get. Therefore, the only thing it is used for, is the last item to toss into the Mystic Forge and is never used at all. What’s the point of a weapon that you’re never going to use?

WvWers just need to get it through their heads that WvW is *NOT*solely PvP. It has been a combination of PvE meets PvP since launch and was conceived to be that way. The constant complaining about the PvE elements just shows a large amount of ignorance about the game and wastes everyones’ time.

@Nike, I get that. I just feel like (like this morning) this thread had been pushed all the way to the second page, and stickies don’t work all that well, because people not always look at the stickies (see the Dolyak express). So in terms of exposure, the general discussion forum gets so much traffic for other unrelated things that it hinders the visibility by being here.

My opinion of course…

I wonder if something as simple as a color change could lessen the sticky effect? Currently, all the stickies are red, so maybe making the Current CDIs blue, would make them stand out? Then, once closed/locked, they could return to red.

First, I really like Malchior’s User Story idea.

Secondly, to answer you question Chris, I think that the CDI could continue in the same manner they have been. However, I think there needs to be one major change: posts that don’t pertain to the actual topic of the moment need to be moved.

For example, in our last thread, there was a point where you specifically asked us to brainstorm about Sub-Classes. Instead on posts brainstorming on that subject, we ended up with massive walls of texts about Fractals or condemning the idea of sub-classes entirely.

Neither type of post was bad per se, but they each completely took away from the topic at hand, preventing us from having the best discussion possible, about the topic. Those posts should have been moved elsewhere, in order to keep the thread focused.
