R.I.P. City of Heroes, 2004-2012
Long Live Atlas Park 33
You mean the Ascended gear you can get with the daily laurels? By just playing the game?
Meaning? Do they not terminate or do they not show up?
Wife and I have completed the first Living Story achievement and spoken to all heralds and refugee NPCs.
Now what? Event info has been very vague. A next step would be nice, or even a hint of a next step.
Go to Finder (your desktop). Click the ‘Go’ menu. Hold Option. Click Library. From there, select Application Support, then Guild Wars 2.
Are you able to get into the task manager via CMD + ALT + ESC? Have you tried to switch workspaces via CTRL + LEFTARROW or RIGHTARROW? Just anything that would make GW2 application lose the focus. Is this also happening when playing in windowed mode?
Just a few hints to maybe work around this issue, in any case I would report this to the support team.
Please reread my original post. This is a full system freeze. I even said that I cannot command+tab, force quit, or force reboot. I have to do a hard reset by holding the power key for seven seconds.
This happens whenever GW2 is running. I don’t even have to be actively using it; it can lock up the system running in a separate workspace.
This is happening to me as well. The exact same thing. I thought it was a ram issue, so I went out and doubled my ram. It happened again. So I was thinking is was a video card issue and began researching how to upgrade the video card. While its possible, it will have to be done professionally. So my guess for now, is that its a video card issue, more specifically not enough video card ram. However I would love a better answer if some one can give one, you know one that isn’t “Yeah, you have to spend around $300 to get a new video card.”
Considering I can run GW2 on my Bootcamp partition without ever seeing this problem (AND that I can run SW:TOR, Champions Online, and various other performance intensive FPS titles) I’ve ruled out this being a video card problem. This used to occur with the City of Heroes Transgaming port as well— welcome to Cider. I’ve reported this to the support team. I’m hoping it’s something to do with the GW2 code, because if this is a Cider problem, we’re never going to see it fixed, given Transgaming’s awful update record.
Every few hours while playing GW2 my entire system will lock up. One sound will keep playing, like an ambient river or something, but the whole system just hangs. Mouse is movable, sound still works, but I can’t command+tab or force quit. Control+Shift+Power doesn’t work to reboot the machine and I have to hard restart. Anyone else seeing this or know why it occurs?
But even if you reach more than 70 FPS you will still not necessarily be happy with the Mac OS X version of GW2. I’ve been running the game on a late-2012 27 inch iMac with the GTX 680MX graphics card with 2GB VRAM and while the FPS is good, the responsiveness of the client to user input is bad. This is most noticeable when doing a simple 360 degree turn with the avatar or in WvW. Turning the camera is very jerky compared to the Windows version. Although note that the Windows client does in fact have the same problem but it is by far not as noticeable there.
This has everything to do with how the Cider wrapper handles system memory.
Whatever the game does is in any case not helped by the fact that the Cider port has to translate Direct3D shader programs and API calls into OpenGL shader programs and API calls at runtime and that the DX9 API design is very different from OpenGL. The only good thing is that DX11 is design-wise closer to OpenGL. But then GW2 is still stuck in DX9 land so that doesn’t help either.
Again, this is the wrapper’s fault. Transgaming has left the wrapper where it is for over a year and a half now (if not longer). No significant engine changes have been made to it in a very long time; ask any City of Heroes player about Transgaming. You’ll be lucky to see any major updates to the wrapper in the next leap year.
Don’t you think that if it were this simple to fix the issues with the Cider client it would have already been done?
Not familiar with Transgaming, are you? We’d be lucky to see them produce something like this by 2015.
Thanks for this stuff, OP; my performance has increased drastically since installing this config file.

BY OGDEN’S HAMMER, WHAT SAVINGS
Seriously.
Down to 7 NA servers that can be used. The remainder are full. What happens when we get to 5? 3? None?
How exactly does this hurt the not-Full servers? Please explain, especially since most of the ‘Full’ servers are dead outside of LA, Orr, WvW and Frostgorge.
But they are listed as open – not full. Players looking to play together have options.
Until they are all full, it is in the best interest of the game’s future to encourage population spread.
Yes. They are ‘open.’ But when only 9 of the current NA servers are open and the remainder are full, it’s time to bump the server population cap. There’s no reason to keep them capped at what they are.
Bear in mind that your Macbook is also made of metal and the top- and bottom-cases function as giant heat sinks.
Necromancer Staff auto attack needs to be silenced. ’Nuff said.
As much as it seems like it would be a good thing, raising the server populations now would be devastating to the less populated servers – where numbers are already becoming an issue. New players and transfers need to be directed where the numbers are needed for the health of the game, not to areas where they will just widen the gap between haves and have-nots.
The game provides an easy way for guilds to play together if they would do it – choose a less populated server and move the guild there. Not only would it allow people to play together, it would support servers that actually need the numbers.
I could see the argument having weight if all servers were full, but that isn’t the case.
Except despite populations of zones being low, servers are listing as full. Seriously, go look at the NA server list. Only 9 of them are open, and they’re listed as Very High. The argument does have weight considering that Yak’s Bend has kitten near empty zones from 20-70, yet comes up as Full on the server list.
Just what the title says. 60% of the servers on the NA circuit list as Full. The remaining 40% are at Very High.
Your GPU is your problem, unfortunately. The Intel HD graphics family is far below the power needed to run this game.
City of Heroes costume creator.
That is all.
Asgard, do you have any buddies with a Windows installation?
I really want to move to Tarnished Coast to get my RP on, but it’s always full. Am I going to have to snipe a spot come the end of the week?
How’d you pull it off?
Wayfarer Foothills heart “Help Lodgekeeper Kevach” has a task where you help a gent named Hodir catch frozen kegs.
I have yet to do it or see someone do it. Is it possible?
I’m using a Greatsword too and my Hundred Blades only goes up to 8k.
So after watching you hit for over 15k, I took a look at my own 80 Warrior and promptly sighed in defeat. :/
I’d suggest upgrading your RAM, but you should be able to run the game.
Got it from City of Heroes. If you don’t like it, ignore it.
You can run it on any computer that has Guild Wars 2 installed on it; everything is online, only the client is on your computer. Do you have 20 bucks to spare? If so, you can upgrade to 10.8 (Mountain Lion) and be set for a while.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/os-x-mountain-lion/id537386512?ls=1&mt=12
Did you select your hard drive from the menu on the left before clicking Repair?
You need to update to 10.7; Transgaming no longer supports Snow Leopard.
Before that though, do the following:
-Check for updates
-Run Disk Utility and Repair Disk Permissions
What GPU are you sporting?
500+ words for an RP post? Come on now. City of Heroes had a 255 character limit per post and we got along just fine.
I agree with the OP. An official RP server would be a godsend and would really make more of the playerbase feel at home. With lore as rich as GW2’s, why wouldn’t you roleplay it a bit? I can’t tell you how many times I’ve wanted to RP my Norn in the middle of a Claw of Jormag run. You know… stun the giant lizard with a Golem bomb, and charge forward with Savage Leap screaming “FOR BEAR AND FOR HOELBRAK!”
… ahem. Yes, RP server please.
Alright… so Tarnished Coast has been full for 48 hours. Is the server ever not full? I’d really like to migrate along with my wife so I can get in on some RP goodness.
Do as many DE’s as you possibly can.
a) Allow players to change the order of weapon abilites in action bar. (simple)
UI work is not simple. Never has been, never will be.
d) Add mounts into the game !! Make ppl pay for them … I dont care … just get them in.
Fast travel system > Mounts.
e)Improve the dungeon experience. I know of alot of ppl that like to play trinity way and would be playing GW2 if it had good dungeons that offered more tratidional gameplay.
This is not WoW.
f) Add 10 man raids into the game.
Again, this is not WoW.
So if 1 or 2 of this would be yes then I might think about it – but right now I think refund and never looking back seems to be the only way for me.
It sounds like you want a different game entirely.
I haven’t used Reddit before. Followed this link

No account or anything. I tap F5 every five minutes and get updated. What is everyone’s problem with how this is being done? I honestly don’t think having the AMA on the forums would be any easier to follow.
Because it’s a piece of poooooooooooooooooooooop. <- that’s gonna be kitten isn’t it.
No seriously, I go there and there are answers like:
Hi Plaid,
I agree whole heatedly and this is something we have and are continuing to have multiple discussions about.
Chris
——————-Oh. That’s nice. WTF was the question? o.o
Click “Context.”
“Hi Samurai,
I am going to take a quick break then answer one of your questions at a time then go pick another and come back to this list. Time permitting i will try to get as many done as possible.
Chris”The list of questions is going to be tackled, just give him some time to go through it.
Good. Before we were just being fed “Please only ask one question at a time” so it’s nice to know there will be some effort directed at the elephant in the room.
ANet really needs to answer the important questions. The players don’t care what video games you play, they care about the one you’re responsible for.
Because that’s what someone (a player) asked…you might not like the question but let’s also remember not to play the elitist card either.
Seriously people…it’s not even over and the complaints, conjecture, and paranoia is piling in. Let’s all take a deep breath and try to relax. After all, it’s just a freak’in game.
You know what else players asked? That big list of legitimate issues at the top of the AMA. What was the response? “Please only ask one question at a time.”
I’m not playing any card here. I want to see answers for solid and concerning questions about a game I enjoy. It is just a game, yes, but I don’t want to play it if the developer team isn’t up front and informative about why things are the way they are. All we’re getting is “moving forward” deflection.
I want to know what ‘moving forward’ means to ANet. Chris has used it in every single reply he’s made, and it’s far too vague a term to have any weight.
ANet really needs to answer the important questions. The players don’t care what video games you play, they care about the one you’re responsible for.
This is a PR thing..putting answers on a forum for people who are already fans or customers isnt as good of a PR move. He is answering the questions and not dodging even the more difficult ones though.
And publicly ignoring the huge list of legitimate issues is good PR?
I like how at least 4 of the 8 responses are “Please only ask one question at a time.”
Glad they pointedly brushed off the list of questions the playerbase has been working on for 2 weeks. Thanks for your effort, samuraikitten88. Sorry they were in vain.
that list would take weeks…its like 100 questions long..its naive to expect him to stop, ignore any questions live people are asking just to answer those.
And it has questions the majority of the forum-visiting playerbase has been asking. If they answer those, far fewer people will be posting their questions. And there’s about 50 questions.
Glad they pointedly brushed off the list of questions the playerbase has been working on for 2 weeks. Thanks for your efforts, samuraikitten86. Sorry they were in vain.
Who’s to say the Priory doesn’t have records of the Dervish and their techniques on file? Maybe some curious Sylvari digs up some old tomes and scrolls and revives the profession… /winknudge
Thanks for the info, guys.
Dervish was by far my absolute favorite profession in GW1. I wonder if we’ll see them come to GW2.
I know someone is going to refute this as soon as I post it, but this happened to my wife and it’s why we bought her a machine with a dedicated GPU.
The Intel HD graphics cards do not have the horsepower or video RAM to run this game properly. While they are listed under the min specs, they just don’t cut it. My wife had an Intel HD 4000 512 in her Toshiba and the game wouldn’t render anything. If it did, it was only for a few minutes and any further rendering would cause black screens or crashes. Bear in mind that you’re also running this game through Transgaming’s cider wrapper, which is an emulation layer (other people will tell you it’s not an emulator, despite that it performs the same functions) and that taxes the system even further.
You need a dedicated GPU to run this game, not an integrated Intel HD graphics family style card.
Run Disk Utility and Repair Permissions.

You know who I want to put a knife through? Rytlock. The story mode of AC is all the reason I needed. Every single freaking boss fight played out like this:
Boss Ghost: You are not welcome here. Leave.
Eir: Please, hear us out. We seek the sword’s power.
Rytlock: SHUT UP WOMAN, I HATE GHOSTS, GHOSTS ARE STUPID, DIE YOU ECTOPLASMIC BUTTFACE
EVERY SINGLE TIME
