The prevalent opinion seems to be “Get in to Verdant, run story and get glider, get out.” The map is a pain to navigate and people seem eager to leave it.

How would you rate the HoT Fun Factor?

Story:
9/10. There are a few points that become tedious, but I really am enjoying the narrative. I can’t wait to find out more. Unfortunately I’m gated behind masteries.

Mastery:
0/10. I’m sorry but I can’t stand this system. I should not have to grind out millions of experience points from events that only give 4-8k experience just to progress one story mission. On top of that, some of these masteries I know I will never use again. I will only unlock them for story purposes. That’s a waste of my time. Hours of grind should not reward me with a 30 minute instance wherein I get some dialogue.

Gameplay:
2/10. The Mordrem are awful to fight against. My wife is a Ranger and she has tons of options in a battle. I’m a sword/board warrior in full Exotic Sentinel’s gear and the enemies in HoT punch through me as though I were paper and they were assault rifles. I’m not in combat for 5 seconds before I’ve exhausted my dodges, I’m stunned, and then downed. God forbid I get downed and 3 Mordrem Snipers lay their fire lines on me, killing me in 1/4 the time it takes to bleed out. Cracker-jack job on these enemies. Reminds me of the Bloody Prince’s 25-bleed-stack extravaganza from 2 low-class enemies. Stop with the CC. It should not be substituted in for challenge.

4/10 for me overall.

Disappointment with Verdant Brink zone

Agreed, OP.

Unhappy with the map, unhappy with the fact that the terrain is so busy I can’t see where I’m going, unhappy with the revolving door of Day/Night, unhappy with the lack of Hearts and vistas and meaningful POIs and secrets, unhappy with the lack of communication in verticality, just unhappy with Verdant Brink in general.

Beta Weekend Feedback

I’d also like to add that Verdant Brink’s lighting could use some work. The entirety of the visible landscape being lit up the exact same color makes my depth perception go nuts, and I’ll often fall into kitten or get snagged on a prop that I can’t differentiate from the terrain.

And can we get the tiered map back for Verdant Brink? The major cities have it, and they’re not half as vertically treacherous as Verdant Brink. The map/minimap in Verdant is literally just one layer and you have no idea if the thing you’re looking at will actually be in front of you until you’re on top of it and realize “Oh crap, that’s about 200 yards above me.”

Beta Weekend Feedback

Former Anet QA here; this is my wife’s post so I’m gonna drop my feedback here too, especially since there’s no dedicated thread for feedback. (Can we get one?)

Specializations: Were they fun? Did they Change how you play your profession in a meaningful way? How were the improvements to the previous Specializations? (Dragon Hunter, Tempest, Chronomancer, Reaper)?

I still only played Reaper. I didn’t feel up to hauling a newly-made 80 out of limbo to re-gear, re-look and re-move from the Silverwastes. Too much time wasted in that area. I will say that it feels like Death’s Charge is far less stupid when it moves you and stops when you hit something. No more sailing through enemies like a deranged ceiling fan and falling off of Verdant Brink’s numerous pitfalls. Grasping Darkness also seemed much more reliable.

How is the difficulty of the new hostile mobs, and are they fun and exciting?

They’re easier to manage for solo folks, don’t two-shot you, and are generally more in-tune with their flavor text and visuals. Difficulty is good. Fun and exciting? Not really. They’re the same enemies I’ve fought for years, so aside from Stoneheads STILL being big bags of health, no real opinion here.

With the Opening of two new outposts, we are adding in a bunch of new events. Are they fun?

Daytime events are… just okay, in my view. The biggest problem I have is the forcing of the Mastery system on the players so that you can access them. I still haven’t unlocked the bounce mushrooms in Itzal Mastery so I spent most of my time trying to get to the events rather than doing them. Night time was boring as usual. I don’t find it fun to play King of the Hill with plant monsters for 40 minutes at a time. I would still like to see some way to secure outposts, or shorten the night phase so I’m not stuck waiting for the more interesting Day events. Plus, night time means I get to take up residence in Contested Waypoint City.

Do the new events bring you more into the world?

In the sense of “here’s what’s happening in Verdant Brink.” None of these events feel too crucial to the story except for Lord Faren seeking training, which was broken. Not enough One Eyed Bongo clones spawned and stalled the event.

Are the new events challenging, meaningful, and interesting?

See above feedback. Night’s tedious, Day’s interesting but not gripping. Happy to see that teaming up is not forced though.

Mastery System
How is the progression?

Slow for me. I spend so much time running to events that I miss them, and grinding out the XP via kills just isn’t viable. That makes the Mastery system a self-compounding problem that gates new players.

How is it using the mastery abilities in the current area?

I’ve only been able to unlock my hang glider, and that dang thing gets stuck on the tiniest bit of collision before dumping me into the abyss. Not the smoothest mechanic.

Is the mastery system providing a meaningful area of progression?

If it wasn’t so brutal on people JUST coming in to it, I think it would be much more meaningful. As it is right now it feels like the system gates itself incredibly hard. No Mastery unlicks, no quick travel; no quick travel, no events; no events, no XP; no XP, no Mastery unlocks; repeat.

Do you care about experience and mastery points?

I’d care more if I could get the experience easier. Waypoints and events being so distant and expecting players to just use their glider (whether they have it or not) to get places makes earning XP difficult. See previous cyclical chain of issues.

Does it provide a good framework to add more masteries in the future?

As far as a system? Yes. But I’m really concerned that these Masteries are going to end up like Guild Missions. Will Itzal Mastery be useful outside of Verdant Brink? Will Hang Glider Mastery ever be proliferated to frustratingly vertical zones? Will the Mastery system overall be utilized in pre-HoT content or will it fall out of development like Guild Missions, dungeon paths or any of the other once-and-done systemic additions we’ve seen in the past?

Do you want to learn as many masteries over time to overcome challenges later in the future?

I don’t think I have a choice in this, as a player. If I don’t utilize Mastery I will not, nor will I ever be as effective as players who do utilize Mastery. That doesn’t sit right with me. My answer to this is “grudgingly yes, because I’ll have to.”

Final feedback:

This beta weekend didn’t ring the same with me as last weekend did. I have serious concerns about content gating, repetition and grind in HoT. The framework for these things is already there. Mastery, day/night sequence, event timing, new resources, it’s all there and sending up red flags for me. I’m hoping that this doesn’t end up true. I don’t want to be ineffective because of a new system (like Guild Missions). Hope next beta is more fun.

This is why I put in a disclaimer that I’m a full Carrion necro, not something built for toughness or reflect. However, I also feel that having to burn both of my dodges to avoid the Snipers is a bit harsh. All of the other things in my setup that I can use to negate projectiles (such as Death’s Charge) take long enough to cast that the sniper’s already landed a good chunk of his volley on me, and it hits hard enough to really make the fight a pain.

EDIT: Really? Censoring kitten -n-a-l?

Yea, I do understand that, like I said though, I think a part of the issue is in the necro itself not the design of the sniper or even your build. lack of options for this kind of thing, long cast times or close range requirements. These issues then necessitate a double dodge. I ran around with a tempest most of the weekend and by the end, all I found I needed to do for a sniper was either icebow 5 or magnetic aura which a tempest has 3 sources of (if traited for it). my main (engineer) I will probably run a pistol shield in the new maps for the block and daze. Run in with a shield 4 reflect and then knock down when I get close. I could go on with other classes, necro just needs some reflect/CC to feel ok in this map. I played reaper for a little while and readily admit I havent done much with a necro in the base game and so had little experienc with it anyway, but I went back to playing either an ele or revenant after not too long.

Luckily Robert Gee posted somewhere about looking into the axe and scepter for reaper and as I remember one think he mentioned was either a block or reflect.

Ideally I’d like Death’s Charge to not spin you so far forward. If it wasn’t such a high-mobility skill in a low-mobility area I’d happily have swapped to Shroud to spin my scythe and block that attack. Unfortunately, there are about 2 major land masses in Brink that don’t lead to a cliffside death if you use Death’s Charge.

hmm, maybe the suggestion here is to make death’s charge stop progressing forward if you reach your target? If you could death’s charge in place when on top of your target, it would be a nice damage boost for necro too (even though reaper seemed to have pretty decent damage in shroud).

Potentially, yeah. That’s just for my necro feedback though. There’s still the outliers of mob difficulty and event failure.

Mastery progression feels way too grindy

I’m hoping the Mastery system is made to be a bit more inclusive to players new to the zone. It kind of sucks that someone can bypass all of the running and waiting just by having more mastery points than I do. I also wonder if Itzal mastery, etc. will even be relevant once you leave Verdant Brink. Unless mastery objects go beyond these zones, the Mastery system will likely turn into Guild Missions all over again.

I felt mobs were designed in such a way as to not allow you to just run through and not care about aggro but instead make you pay attention and learn their mechanics.

Snipers typically came 1 in a group, they really hurt but have low hp. a reflect devastates them and a knockdown or stun usually gives you enough time to get in range and burst them down. Unfortunately, every class has a reflect of some kind except for necro (and thief’s is on the elite), and necro doesnt have much for a long range CC, though it has some mid range CC. I probably would have been either running spectral grasp (a pull is an interrupt) or flesh golem for the knockdown. This, i feel, is an issue with necro and not with the mobs themselves.

Similarly with pocket raptors, once you figure out how to deal with them on a given class, they arent that bad.

This is why I put in a disclaimer that I’m a full Carrion necro, not something built for toughness or reflect. However, I also feel that having to burn both of my dodges to avoid the Snipers is a bit harsh. Also, to add, a clearer description could be used on all fronts of the new Necromancer shouts. Many of them say “apply conditions” or “apply a condition” without actually denoting what condition is being applied. The only way to really see it is to actually look at the conditions applied when they land.

This brings me to where the beta weekend really fell short, which was all of the events in the Verdant Brink. The story instances were fun, and allowed me some nice insight into the new group’s dynamic — and it was AWESOME to see my very own character belt out orders instead of using Trahearne as a mouthpiece for once. However, every event I ran this beta weekend in Verdant Brink was bugged in some capacity. As former ANet QA, this stuck in my heart more intensely than anything else. On top of that, some of the enemies in this area are just not intuitive as to how frustrating they’re going to be or how hard they hit. I’ll go in to this below.

  • Mordrem Snipers are dirty jerks. Their Targeted debuff is not up long enough for me to react to it (yes, I dodged, I’m not Gohan). If I get the drop on them, I can dodge their attack — but the attack takes up 2 dodge rolls and hits hard enough to drop over half of my health off of me if I miss one dodge roll. If I don’t dodge at all I’m a dead man. (Disclaimer: Full Carrion necromancer.)
  • Stoneheads are big, annoying health bags. They look intimidating but they’re nowhere near as fearsome as they look.
  • Mordrem Teragriffs need to have a cooldown added to their Charge skill. It lands players on their butts for 2-ish seconds, and they can get stuck using it over and over. This means doom for anyone trying to solo one as they basically just run you over like a deranged go-kart until you die.
  • Pocket Raptors. They’re cute. They’re cute until they swarm you like a bunch of hornets. I like them visually. I dislike them mechanically. They’re evil and seem to have a multiplicative aggro radius.

And the events:

  • Every single Mordrem Breacher event was broken. The snipers did not shoot at the Vine Tenders, which meant that players had to coordinate (not something that came easily) to kill all of the Tenders at the same time and then blitz the Breacher.
  • The event wherein you had to place explosives at the base of a huge vine at Shipwreck waypoint actually got me stuck in the base of the vine. I had to wait for the event to end to get out, as I was not allowed to waypoint due to being in combat.
  • The event to protect Skybreaker as she plants explosives takes far, far, far too long. I have an 80 engineer and I’m confident I could place the bombs in half the time as Skybreaker. The group I was a part of ran this event for 25 minutes before it finally completed.
  • The event immediately following that broke. Laranthir and Skybreaker walked past the waypoint and froze, not moving. They can’t even be downed (which sometimes jogs the ‘memory’ of the event and gets it going). Event completion is something I know I looked at on every event, and this level of breakage is really difficult for me to forgive.
  • The Colossal Vine event was completely broken. The vine itself couldn’t be damaged, so it blocked off any content in that area indefinitely.
  • Itzal food baskets never filled up with grubs/worms/food. 20 or so players and I all dropping food into these baskets in every method we could think of didn’t get us a complete. 2/5 of those baskets are toast, because 3/5 filled successfully.
  • Whether you’ve realized it or not, giving easy access to multi-part events via Mastery objects is actually excluding players new to the zone. Seeing someone with Itzal mastery bounce right up a mushroom and take part in an event while I spent so much time taking the long route that I missed it is incredibly discouraging. Once that zone loses its newness, are there plans to expand the mastery objects further into the game so that “progress” is actually useful to players who might not be as quick at advancing? I sincerely hope so. I don’t want to see the Mastery system go the way of Guild Missions.
  • 40 minutes of nightfall and playing King of the Hill with the Mordrem seems a bit long to me. A lot of the events I was most interested in only happened during the day, and I felt it a slog to wait through 40 minutes of “hold Points A, B, and C.” Something more could be happening here, perhaps even events to alleviate the constant assault on one of the points.

Despite my complaints, I’m loving the narrative and the new life breathed into gameplay here in HoT. I can’t wait for more. I’m hoping the next Beta weekend will have a round of event/bug fixes that don’t require every event in Verdant Brink to require a workaround or dismissal as broken, though. My favorite part of GW2 is being able to bring my skill and profession to a cool event and contribute, and when the events are almost ALL in disrepair, my fun drops to zero. Keep on keeping on, guys, thank you for the effort. Just swing the QA stick a little harder at your events.

TL;DR
Reapers are fun. Events are almost all broken, which isn’t fun. Mastery seems convoluted and exclusionary. Enemies could use some balance. Loving it despite the complaints.

Howdy folks. If you know who I am, fantastic; if you don’t, I’m a former ANet QA guy. Won’t go into my releases for personal info reasons. CAUTION: Wall of Text incoming.

I want to start off with how much I’m absolutely in love with the Reaper Necromancer Elite Spec. I’m a huge fan of Greatswords and Shouts (my Warrior and Guardian are both GS Shout spec because it’s a total blast to me) and seeing that proliferated to Necro (my third favorite character) gave me a huge amount of joy. Let me start with that first!

  • Attack speed on the Dusk Strike combo (skill 1) seems slow. While it hits decently, it feels like the odd man out in combat when other professions are cutting under you in speed. That said, the life force gain on this baby is top notch.
  • Gravedigger is a fun skill, but takes a lot of timing to pull off well. I think the recharge reduction is a little high; it could be halved at most, instead of a .8s recharge when hitting a downed/low health foe. You might also hit copyright issues with the name. :P
  • Death Spiral is absolutely amazing. I love everything about it, from the vulnerability and for how it really siphons health with the Siphon HP on Greatsword Hit trait. It’s such a satisfying landing, too. My drill is a drill that will STEAL YOUR SOUL!
  • Nightfall is strong. Real strong. Turns the Necro into an unhittable lifesteal machine. Synergy there is great with Gravedigger, and it saved my butt quite a few times on those dang Mordrem snipers (more on those later).
  • Grasping Darkness… feels the worst out of the Greatsword setup. It rarely hits where you aim it, the pull is not visually communicated well as to what’s going to be pulled, it’s pretty useless in most of Verdant Brink (lots of un-pullable enemies there) and the description is super vague. “Applies a condition” should read “Applies poison” because that’s what the skill does. Poison. Hit detection can be improved and I feel like the range is quite poor for something meant to get stuff in melee range. You can actually hit things with Dusk Strike at its max range. Why bother?

The new Shroud looks as cool as it feels, but has one large hole in it from my POV.

  • Life Rend combo hits hard, hits wide, and feels satisfying. Nothing like that scythe coming down on your enemies.
  • Death’s Charge is the rotten apple that spoils the bunch here. The mobility on this skill is so incredibly high for a zone like Verdant Brink. In other parts of the game I’m sure this skill would shine and be real fun to use, but on the precarious perches of the Brink using this skill is basically asking to take a dive off a cliff. I found more often than not that if I wasn’t facing down my attacker eye-to-eye, the projectile deflection would not work. I had to be dead-center, 12-o-clock on my target. This skill feels clunky, unpredictable, and not up to snuff with the rest of Reaper’s Shroud.
  • Infusing Terror is great. It grants Stability, though I feel like Stability should be a standard thing in Reaper’s Shroud given that it’s an Elite spec. The 1s fear on this skill’s detonation doesn’t really cut it in group fights. One second doesn’t give enough time for the enemy to scatter, let alone give you enough time to fire off any other skill in your setup.
  • Soul Spiral is love, man! Mix this with Executioner’s Scythe and you really lay down the AoE. Coupled with the Life Transfer heal trait and this helicopter-scythe makes for some really fun support/damage mixers.
  • Executioner’s Scythe feels more like a Mark-maker attack than a Scythe attack. The stun is really not that easy to land and I got a lot more use out of using this as a Cold field than I did anything else. Looks super cool, to boot.

I didn’t get a chance to mess with the other 3 available Elite Specs, but given how solid Reaper came out I have high hopes for them. Tempest especially looks cool, but I didn’t get the time to roll up more than just my Necro.

Misconceptions regarding Level gating.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

vince.5937

I just wanted to make the point that the NPE was deliberately designed to address the early game retention issues, and ensure that Guild Wars 2 can benefit from a strong and steady influx of new players into the game.

And in doing so you’ve effectively lobotomized any new alts made by veteran players, players who you’d already been retaining. I don’t understand how this system was greenlit to apply to veteran player accounts in the way that it was. If I wanted to roll an alt right now I’d be itching to get my gear/skills set up the way I know they can be, but I’d be tethered to the NPE like a toddler leashed by a doting parent. I know what the game is about, where I can go, what I can do, how I can build, what traits I want. Why did you lock it all away from me as though you decided I was too stupid to use a game I’ve been playing since Headstart?

I used to love this game, you know. I have 8 80’s and I used to play every day. But every step this game takes toward thinking its players need serious hand-holding, the further away I push myself from it.

Misconceptions regarding Level gating.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

vince.5937

- There is misinformation: Numerous systems that show up in the level up guide that teaches you about things in the game when you gain levels are not locked out, the system simply tells you they exist in the game to help give you a better list of things you can do. Just because it’s included in the level up guide, doesn’t mean it’s actually locked out. You can dodge from level one, jumping puzzle from level one, etc. There also appear to be a lot of folks chiming in who haven’t actually played with any of the system, and are making claims that aren’t remotely true.

Can you clarify what systems are ‘faux-locked’ as it were? Because so far, everything I’ve seen is hard-level locked until a certain level is reached with the exception of Vistas, POIs, Gathering Node markers and dying.

Considering the post (and Martin) have said discovery recipes will be reset, I’m inclined to think that only discovery recipes will be reset.

They stated they are removing all… so until told otherwise, we must assume they are screwing us over.

That’s a poor assumption to make.

It’s not as if you can never ever see those weapons again and ArenaNet has taken away your ability to make them. Re-discovering them is exactly the same as re-crafting them. All you’re losing is the recipe, not the ability to craft these weapons. A true waste of gold and mats would be if ArenaNet reset everyone’s crafting rating to 0 and you had to hit 400 again.

You know what’s really funny? I actually encountered this in Fireheart Rise the other day. One of those Flame Legion Smoke Shaman mobs was flinging ash at me and my arrows registered Invulnerable. I swapped to my shield and reflected one of his projectiles, and my game crashed. I reported it. I guess the game doesn’t like it when you make it attack itself while invulnerable?

Withdrawl in the Guild Bank viewable?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: vince.5937

vince.5937

There is one thing to be aware of though. This used to be the case but I am not sure if it still is.

The issue is/was that the name reported in the history is tied to the character used rather than the account. If someone used a character to withdraw and then delete that character the history will report something like ‘Unknown’.

I think this changed. I deposited some items in guild bank with one character, with the history showing that character name. I logged in a few days later with a different character and my previous deposit was showing my current character name, not the character I used when depositing it. So I think they changed it to represent account name rather than character name.

This is true; I see my account name and my wife’s account name when checking bank history, not the characters used.

Guesting NEEDS to stop

Guests get kicked to overflow, when people from the home server log on.—Make it so Anet.

Just show up to the event early, you have dragon timers. Use them. For all you know it isn’t guests, there’s enough people on many many servers to cause an overflow in a region without guests there. Dragon chests are worth it, so tons of people are going to show up. They aren’t getting rid of guesting, they aren’t going to punish guesters, so you might as well just show up early for your own good.

Yeah, and then when everyone starts doing that we’re back to the original problem.

No chests for guests. Go back to your home server.

What problem? People showing up early? If you care about the event you’ll show up early, if you don’t you won’t. Punishing a guest for making preparations for the event is silly and selfish. Simple as that.

Please reread my post and try again. Second, server natives are already being stuck in overflows, unable to participate in events thanks to guesters. So take your pick: Punish guesters or punish people who’ve been on the server since launch.

Firstly, it’s not guest who are filling up your servers since guest are put on priority for overflow. Second, doesn’t matter if it’s your home server, it’s first come first serve…

It’s like going to KFC and telling the immigrant to bugger off because you’re a citizen and have priority in line.

No it’s not. It’s like having an assigned parking space and finding someone else in it when you’re trying to get into the office to start your day. (That happens at my place of residence. If the guy who’s ‘visiting’ the neighbors parks overnight in my spot again I’m having him towed.)

But it is not an assigned parking space, it’s just a parking space you self claimed because you’ve been parking in it for awhile. It is really a public parking space.

Actually, it’s assigned to my unit. My unit is posted on a sign in front of the space. I have a garage and a space with my unit number assigned to it.

So no, it’s not public.

I’m not talking about your office parking space…..i’m talking about the server slot in your server with the example you provided of a parking space………….

Oh. Sorry then!

I know they can join me in the overflow, but what if I want to join them in primary? Can’t do it. I don’t have enough time to just wait things out; I work 8-12 hours a day depending on what my job needs me to do, so waiting for events to end might mean missing out on what I need to do for my dailies. My priorities are to do my dailies first and level alts while doing so. If I have Group Events on my daily list, so much for that.

It’s time you joined the dark side., fore you just stated why people guest and why it’s such a fantastic system.

First, since all locations are the same no matter what server you’re on and Overflows are somewhat populated anyway, why does it matter if you’re playing with your friends in an Overflow or your home server? EDIT: This is a game, it’s supposed to be about fun, not about what buffs you have, etc.

Second, no daily I’ve seen yet requires you to be ikittenone with one of these larger events. There way more “group events” than just those few larger ones that are oh so camped. And you have options now, you don’t have to that particular achievement.

Third, so what if you didn’t get to do your daily? Time to weigh things out. Life/work or game? Life/work. Dailies only fun thing to do? If so, I’d say it’s time to move on. (We’ll leave the “gear debate” to those many other threads.) Besides, it’s not like you can’t complete Dailies in Overflow or as a guest.

I’ll give you that. And I do my dailies to get my 10 Unidentified Dyes every 5 days. My wife loves to customize and I enjoy sending her colors.

… because I’m curious: ikittenone?

I’ll relent to that; there has to be a better analogy for what I’m trying to say. And I may be an oddball here, but I’d wait in line all the same. The problem here is that the line isn’t moving and by the time it does, the cashier’s gone home. (I’m hoping that’s a better analogy.)

It’s a great analogy. And I ask, who’s really at fault: Those that got there early, etc or you for being stubborn?

And for your last post about friends, guilds, and whatnot: If you are in an overflow and want to play with friends, they can easily join you in said overflow. Any guild that doesn’t check what major event might interfere with their mission is just being dumb. Gathering? Again wait for the event to not be happening.

It’s all about logging in and thinking “what do I want to do today and how best shall I go about it?”

I know they can join me in the overflow, but what if I want to join them in primary? Can’t do it. Excuse me, are you seriously saying that I should leave the server I picked because people from other servers are using it instead of the ones they picked? Be realistic.

If someone who visited you suddenly moved in and asked you to move, would you?

You’re excused, but only this once.

Who says they’re not using their “home” server? People do not guest to get multiple chests per character – it’s not possible. People guest to get the events done within their play time/style.

Your analogy doesn’t fit. It would be better to say: If suddenly more people from out of town opted to show up to your favorite store and thus make you wait in line and miss out on a sale, would you opt to shop elsewhere? And the answer is “yes”, especially since the sale location can be changed with a mere few clicks of a mouse.

I’ll relent to that; there has to be a better analogy for what I’m trying to say. And I may be an oddball here, but I’d wait in line all the same. The problem here is that the line isn’t moving and by the time it does, the cashier’s gone home. (I’m hoping that’s a better analogy.)

Guesting NEEDS to stop

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: vince.5937

vince.5937

This whole guesting trend is literally people being mad because they didn’t prepare and that’s all it is.

No, it’s not. It’s not getting your WvWvW bonuses your server has due to overflow. It’s not being able to see the same map as the rest of your party or guild. It’s going to all the wrong Orichalcum locations and spending a great deal of time hunting them down due to being in a different zone. It’s not being in the same zone as your party of friends and not seeing the same events and not being able to participate together if Event A is happening in the primary zone but not Overflow. It’s not being able to do Group Events for your Daily rewards because you’re stuck in Overflow while it runs normally on your home server and the next Group Event on Overflow is god-knows-when. It’s starting a Guild Bounty mission during the Claw of Jormag fight and never seeing the required NPC because you can’t get into the proper shard of the zone he’s in. It’s watching people jump servers and farm their guaranteed rares to make a quick buck on the trading post after they’ve salvaged ectos.

If you’ve read the forums at all you’d know about this. This isn’t about preparedness. This is about missing out on periodic content because a bunch of people want their rares.

Please reread my post and try again. Second, server natives are already being stuck in overflows, unable to participate in events thanks to guesters. So take your pick: Punish guesters or punish people who’ve been on the server since launch.

Please reread my post. I’m not asking punishment for people who are prepared. I’m asking for server natives to be able to do things on their own server. And yes, actually, I have asked in map chat on Tarnished Coast how many people were guesting. The amount of replies was staggering.

Guesting is out of hand and needs to be addressed. Server natives should not be forced into overflow because someone wants to farm their rares. On top of that, I’m tired of losing out on my server’s WvWvW bonuses in the freaking starter zones.

Please tell me where in all that bull you say any such thing.

Server natives got forced in to Overflows well before this update. Sounds like if these lame events are your one and only priority, you should be the one guesting. Find a server with a population low enough to fit your needs.

Excuse me, are you seriously saying that I should leave the server I picked because people from other servers are using it instead of the ones they picked? Be realistic.

I’m still confused why people native to the server feel they are more deserving of the event than guesters.
It’s not like you own the server.
In real life, yes I feel like if I’m in my home that I pay for, I have more right to be there than Homeless Joe.
This is an online server that ANet owns, none of us should be any more entitled to be on it than anyone else.

Guesters can do the events on their own server. But they don’t. They’re using the guesting system to farm rares from chests. They’re not even subtle about it. One chest per character, per day, per server. So, guesting ahoy.

Well server natives are probably not being stuck in overflows thanks to guesters. How do you base such a claim? Do you ask every single player at the event if they are guesters? Are you a wizard?

Let’s be a little bit realistic here, Vince. Dragon chest loot is now valuable, and most servers have more than enough native population to force an overflow for a region. That’s probably what’s happening.

If I had to pick on who to punish, I would punish the players who are careless and don’t prepare for the event.

The logic is simple, if you want to do the event, you will prepare and show up early. If you don’t show up early, you don’t care enough about the event. If there’s a 1 hour queue for an event then that’s something ANet should have to deal with in regards to server capacity because that’s ridiculous, but punishing a player for making preparations is a terrible gesture no matter who you are.

Please reread my post. I’m not asking punishment for people who are prepared. I’m asking for server natives to be able to do things on their own server. And yes, actually, I have asked in map chat on Tarnished Coast how many people were guesting. The amount of replies was staggering.

Said it before: No chests for guester. What’s that? Your home server doesn’t have the population to finish a dragon fight?

1. Dynamic world events, even Group boss events, scale to the number of players nearby. You’ll be fine.
2. Your server isn’t populated because you’re not there.

Server residents over guests. Anyone that says otherwise is using the guesting system to work the chest rewards in their favor.
