Ruins of Orr is supposed to be riddled with Risen, Zhaitan raised it along with the undead. As for not getting agro, it takes familiarity with the place….

I understand why it’s more crowded than a Resident Evil game, I just don’t like it. As for familiarity, I have the situational awareness of a mango so that’s just not gonna happen. :P

They’re near impossible to report if you don’t have superhuman reaction time. By the time I’ve clicked on these ‘jumpers’ they’ve ported out of range of a select.

I’m a Yak Bender myself so I’m no stranger to it. I enjoy running about and smashing some Risen from time to time, but I hate seeing an Ori node and, while running to mine it, getting lambasted by about fifteen Risen. It sucks since I either A) go down at the Node and lose my stack of Bloodlust/Luck, or I spend a bunch of time fighting and by the time I’ve killed ten of ’em, the five around the node have respawned.

(Seriously, Orr respawn rates are a bit high.)

I’ve been seeing this on Yak’s Bend as well. There’s no way this is a case of “log on, mine, log off.” While running around Lornar’s Pass last night I saw the same Elementalist four times: He appeared, mined the node, and vanished on two rich nodes and a couple of trees.

This thread seems to be degenerating into an argument over whether people are allowed to play what they want with whom they want. If you look at it objectively, of course they are. People claiming otherwise, divorce the issue from fractals and ask yourself, “Do I want developers or other players telling me whom I must play with?”

The real issue is not elitists v. entitled, it is whether the gating mechanism is a good mechanic or not. If people want to be hostile, exclusive, insulting or rude, they don’t need a game’s gating mechanism. The feature may serve as a convenient outlet for such behavior, but it does not cause it.

I’d like to thank you for reading my post and the rest of the thread and actually understanding what I’m talking about, unlike some other posters who keep asserting that I’m a liar and/or an instigator. This situation is pretty identical to what happened to me in Lion’s Arch; I voiced my opinion and was set upon by insults and accusations.

What video card do you have?

What are your machine specs?

Wondering if RP groups exist in this game yet.

Might have changed it so that it scaled by level.

This wouldn’t improve on their damaged brand at all. People would still feel betrayed. Bad strategy, that is not saving any of the lost brand equity.

Considering this was the same BS fed to City of Heroes players when NCSoft shut it down I fully expect to see this crop up Monday. On top of that, NC’s stock is abysmally low and its shareholders have said that NC needs to “change their business plan” for the better. ArenaNet’s original no-grind mentality won’t fit in with Nexon/NCSoft’s endless pay-to-win/grind-to-win business plan.

I get called away a lot. I have a wife and two dogs and a job that keeps me on call, so I don’t want everything 100% group oriented because I will never get anything done.

This is also why they killed City of Heroes, the world’s most profitable and longest-running (longer than WoW) superhero MMO. Gotta kill those cash cows, man, just so you can bet your entire nut on one pot.

I wasn’t QQing when I was waiting 5h for a CM party and wasn’t bickering about how other dungeons are screwing the game and only CM should be available so I could get my noble rune set… Because that’d be very selfish and stupid…

1. You want me to post the names? I even had people in my finally-found group say “Man that (name) guy needs to get stuffed” and “dude people are rude in LA tonight.” Yes, that’s what happened.

2. I also have a job and two dogs and a wife and real friends outside the game. I’ll say it again: I don’t want to find an entirely new guild just to run one dungeon. I’d gladly play the other world dungeons, but hardly anyone seems to run them anymore in favor of FotM.

3. I didn’t say anything was ruining anything. I said I can’t find groups for any other world dungeons anymore because it appears that everyone’s running FotM instead. I didn’t say Exp mode was elitist and I sure as hell didn’t insinuate that I was doing this for gear. If you read my OP you’ll notice that I actually like to run the Fractals because they’re visually beautiful. This has absolutely nothing to do with gear and everything to do with the behavior of players forming FotM teams. How about not putting words in my mouth?

I didn’t buy a game to work. I bought a game to play. That’s why there’s two separate words for ‘work’ and ‘play.’

I reported all of the individuals who decided to act inappropriately. However that does not help me trying to run the dungeon. When asking a group to run level 2 Fractals results in getting belittled, isn’t that kind of an issue with both the player and how the content is managed? This ‘difficulty level’ FotM has allows a lot of players to act like jerks because others literally aren’t “on their level.”

Most of them have left the game and the ones I think still play are never on when I am. Yes, I could find a new guild, but I’m not really interested in doing that search just to run one dungeon. I want to play with friends, not squeeze myself into a group just to have a shot at FotM.

So I spend about an hour in LA trying to find/set up a Level 2 FotM team. Eventually I just teamed up with a few other 2’s and a level 1 and just ran it because I enjoy the visuals. However, during that hour I experience the rudest treatment I’ve ever received in any game from the players in LA map chat. I was PMed and insulted, called names in map chat, and even got a few nasty slurs and one “die in a fire” for asking why it was so kittening hard to find a FotM team below level 5. According to LA, it’s super easy to find a team! Just spam spam spam! You’ll find one, even though everyone is saying they don’t want my FotM level! Right.

I almost found a level 2 team but they wouldn’t let me join unless I PMed them links to my equipped gear. When I finally did find my team, we entered to the Aquatic Fractal and I promptly crashed. Turns out the rest of my team did too and two of them gave up. No more team.

Between the rudeness of other players, the lack of teams for my FotM level, and the off chance my team will get hammered by a crash I think I’m just going to go back to soloing the PvE content. Hardly anyone does any dungeons outside of FotM anymore so I won’t bother looking for teams for AC, CoE, CM, or any of my other favorites.

If this is on a Mac book then it is probably just over heating. I had the same kitten happen to me till I changed the thermal paste.

That’s funny. I run on a MacBook Pro Mid-2010 and I’ve never overheated. Danq’s problem sounds like a faulty logic board. Again, we need to know what GPU he has in his rig. If it’s not a dedicated GPU then he shouldn’t be playing on it.

Funny, I dislike when casual players come and try to make my favorite genre something it isn’t or wasn’t never meant to ever be. The charm of MMO’s is the brutality of trying to stay current. imo there seems to be a very different understanding of “hardcore” in mmos. They seem to think grinding and farming a lot means hard core; I dont think this is the case. In gaming, universally – i think hardcore applies to people who strive to improve their skill in a game, time investment comes hand-in-hand with it but improving oneself in the game is what makes a player hardcore

I’ll agree with you wholeheartedly on that. In CoH, there was a definite power plateau that came with every player’s personal playstyle. The “crappy” power selections were godlike hammers in the right hands. The “uber” power selections could be worthless if you didn’t know how to play. Did the Invention Enhancements make it easier to play through some content? Yes. Was that content walled off if you weren’t super tricked out? No. You simply expanded outward rather than upward. It was casual MMO gaming at its finest.

City of Heroes. Any build was viable. You didn’t need super-stat Invention Origin enhancements to be awesome. You could play the game with NO enhancements and still be awesome.

Danq, allow me to explain.

You bought the PC client. You did not buy the Mac client. When you purchased the game, the version of the game you purchased (whether it was a DVD box or an online purchase) was for the PC version. The Mac client is in Beta and is included as a bonus to current PC users for testing purposes so they can eventually release a standardized Mac client.

If you go to support saying you bought this game solely to use it on a Mac and purchased it as a Mac product, there’s a chance you’ll be met with “But the game is only a Mac beta. Sorry, we can’t refund your money.” I’m not trying to be a butt about it here. I’m simply trying to assist you in being aware of the outcomes here since the Mac client is an unfinished product that you technically did not directly pay for.

Also, please list your entire system specs.

This was an issue with City of Heroes. If you don’t use the Trading Post fast enough the game bugs out and crashes, or the service stops working. Just another feature of Transgaming.

I don’t want someone discriminating against me just because I don’t meet their gear check. Do NOT add Inspect to this game.

Are we even playing the same game? Did you participate in the event at all?

Or the fact that Phases 1 & 2 were bugfests and a lot of people missed their reward.

SOUTHSUN COVE: 7/10

This zone is beautiful. It’s well put together and it’s not too big. Lots of Orichalcum nodes for us metalworkers. However, the enemy difficulty here is absolutely absurd. Reef Drakes stack 6+ confusion in less than 10 seconds and confuse with every attack. Young Karka demolish anyone without fast hands or a quick block using their spit attack. Veteran Karka have Champion level HP and can kill 10-20 players in one attack. Champion Karka have Legendary HP and have poison spit that cannot be blocked or reflected. ALL shelled Karka regaining HP after their shell is broken? Bad idea is bad.

ONE TIME EVENT: 3/10

Good on you guys for doing cool stuff. Bad on you guys for making it literally one-time only. The Halloween cutscene repeated for a while so people could see it, but once a server downed the Ancient Karka that was it. What’s worse is that the reward chest gave a shot at Precursors. Thanks a ton; that just makes missing out even more painful.

EVENT READINESS: 1/10

Phase one is still broken. Phase two was nothing special. Phase three doesn’t repeat and punishes players for missing it, especially when there was a shot at 200+ gold through a precursor.

OVERALL: 4/10

This should have been a week-long event, not a 2 day bug fest. The event needs to be rerun, especially considering that Phase 1 is still broken.

Again, you did not pay for the mac client. That argument isn’t going to ring any bells for ANet support.

Seconding Zen here; I’ve only ever seen rares/exotics when I craft them. Never seen one drop ever.

You didn’t pay for the mac client. No one did.

SPent 45 minutes cleansing the temple of Melandru. Got 4 blues and a yellow gem. I could do the same amount of work in the same amount of time for a guaranteed rare and much more loot by running AC.

This may be the greatest thing I have ever heard of.
