update your graphic card’s driver and play a while to see if the issue still happens
here’s a link to the latest WHQL one for WinXP 64Bit:
http://www.nvidia.de/object/winxp64-310.90-whql-driver-de.html
be sure to choose “custom installation” to be able to check “new installation”, which removes most traces of the old previous installed driver version, as well as any changes at the nvidia-control panel.

wait a few minutes and try again.
done that several times?
delete the “Gw2.tmp” file located at the GW2 installation folder if it’s more than 0kb big
still not working?
first reboot your computer and dsl-router (just plug out the power supply of the dsl-router for about 10 seconds and plug it back in)
still not working?
run the command line argument " -repair", as explained here (it will take a while so be patient):
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments
now try patching again.
and now i’m out of ideas :P
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
Performance Optimization
passages, like the bandit cave in queensdale, now perform much better than before.
25~FPS before the patch
60~FPS after the patch
nice job, anet!

Balancing
people like to call those “nerf”…well i don’t.
i really admire the jan. 28th update.
but for a reason beyond my comprehension, most people don’t think so.
please proove me wrong and restore some of my faith in humanity.
sure, it’s a long road and the game never will be perfect…no game is (not even Final Fantasy VII ´´dramatic music``) but a-net delivers…faster than i expect.
no fanboy – just someone who plays the game as intended.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
it’s kinda sad what the forums, especially the general duscussion section, have become.
50% of the threads are about 1 minor thing the game did wrong in the opinion of the thread creator, which eventually results in a flame war against a-net.
especially when new content is added.
most recently: every second thread is about what a huge grinder GW2 is…i just can’t take such threads serious.
obviously, GW2 wasn’t a grinder 1 week ago…but now it is? :P
30% are just mindless flamewars towards anything or everything, but not always related to GW2 in any way.
10% of all threads are comparisons of GW2 to other games.
just go play that “compared to GW2”-game instead if love it so much. :P
5% are gamebreaking suggestions, usually posted outside of the suggestion section.
and last but least 5% serious talk.
no wonder that dev’s aren’t coming by here often.
I’d like to talk of some weird moderator actions too (but somewhat understandable of the current state of the forums), but sadly it’s not allowed here.

consider to overclock your CPU because that CPU would "that “B” word i refuse to spell out" (don’t worry, someone else will post that word)
so look up some tutorials but since you having a laptop, (i’m guessing, because of your GPU) you won’t get much out of that CPU, cuz of the lack of cooling ability.
the game should run, but terrible, even at low graphics, if a lot of players are on the screen or if you’re located at a performance heavy area.
my suggestion: if you have some spare money, consider a upgrade to a faster CPU – ask around at your local PC store, those people might help you more about it!

crafting.
crafting exp needs a nerf beyond good and evil imo.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
seriously, what’s with all those “GW2 is grind” threads lately?
it sure got it’s “grindy” moments if you choose to actually farm for materials, which you get enough from regular exploring/TP.
i admit, dungeons are kinda grindy…they could reduce the token price for dungeon gear.
but besides that, GW2 is far away from being a grinder…do you guys actually played a good ol’ k-mmo before?
i don’t mean those “western localized rate changed” ones.
like Ragnarok Online or Perfect World…those are grinders.
just 10 minutes on one spot and they call GW2 a grinder…geez
if you don’t like to farm for stuff just don’t do it! GW2 is made to please as many audiences as possible! ;D
there are poeple who likes mindless, zombie-like grind…those are complaining about DR btw…
i don’t like dungeons, for example, so i’m crafting my exotics.
some don’t like to craft and buying them through karma.
some don’t even want to lay a finger on jumping into the world of tyria and play the market, get rich and buy all the stuff they want.
choose what you like and not what you don’t like.

“for greater justice!!”
“i could outrun a centaur!”
those 2 phrases…i never stop hearing them once i’m online…no matter where i am located in whole tyria.
even in towns, where “for greater justice” is pointless
isn’t it nice to have something else annoying you instead?

GW2 is probably the most populated mmorpg atm.
so if GW2 is “dead”, how would you describe other fairly populated mmorpg’s?
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
@wauwi. Neverwinter nights was an MMORPG? o.o.
I thought it was just a rpg.. I own it, and I usually play offline.
the first one was.
1991…where the world just got rid of the “wooden age” of video game technology and everything was pixels
thank you internet, for giving me such epic knowledge
off topic: i should try out neverwinter nights (the one you meant)…i have it lying around somewhere but never played it O.O
oh and here’s a screenshot of 1991’s neverwinter nights:
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
inb4 until someone mentions “bottlenecking”
your system’s behavior sounds normal (tbh i’d need you in-game gfx settings to say that for sure)
some locations and areas are more demanding, such as lion’s arch and the black citadel as well as riversides and areas with reflections in general or populated zones.
each system will have more or less “usage spikes” according to it’s individual specs.
my GPU goes nuts usage-wise while near water for instance and my CPU’s usage goes from 30-70% depending on which location i am. same goes for my framerate (40-60FPS)
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
did you recently changed anything at the ingame graphics settings? or ingame settings in general?
if yes, try deleting the “Local.dat” file located at “c:\users\your pc account name\my documents\Guild Wars 2\”
some other (maybe) useful tips:
- at the nvidia CP on the very first tab, turn the quality slider completely to the left to set your GPU to the lowest quality
-verify/repair your game installation by rightclicking on your GW2 shortcut >>> properties >>> shortcut tab >>> at “target” add " -repair" (without quotations and with space at the beginning) to ""C:\Guild Wars 2\Gw2.exe""
and then run it…don’t forget to make a new shortcut after this or remove the " -repair" command line or the game will always try to repair itself when you start it
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
i’m shocked…so many “work on ranger” posts.
rangers are quite awesome. why? you can’t mess ‘em up…you can be supportive, aggressive, range, melee, condition, burst…and all of those attributes at once.
that’s what makes this class…being good at anything
it’s pet system works fine too…the choice of pets could be better tho…i feel kinda forced sometimes to just stick to one with the highest DPS
elementalist’s water/healing abilitys could be improved
but they should work on thiefs and mesmers imo
too bad for PvE (at the mesmer’s case only until lv40-60 depending on the actual player’s skills) and too good for PvP
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
if a game is released, people will instantly refer to it as a clone of a successful game of the same genre.
every hack ‘n slay = God of War clone (yes, the first Devil May Cry games too, according to such people)
any first person shooter = Call of Duty clone (what was half life and golden eye? some coktails? i don’t think so)
all mmorpg’s = World of Warcraft clones (anachy online, runescape, everquest or shall we go back even further to 1991 and mention the very first mmorpg “neverwinter nights”?)
if the wishes of those who instantly claim a game to be a clone of another one would be granted, every genre only would have one single game.
even popular game critic sites/magazines call other games clones of more successful ones of the same genre, regardless of how good such a game actually is.
it’s stupid… like internet trolls and haters…you can’t get rid of those people.
period.
GW2 have alot in common with WoW? you don’t say.
of course! it’s also a mmorpg :P

disable “ambient occlusion” at the nvidia control panel
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
GTX580 @ stock clocks (v.310.90 driver), i7-950 @3,7GHz (HT disabled) and 55FPS avg. @LA on high settings O.o
didn’t played a month, but nice framerates all of the sudden
i had avg. 25FPS @LA/BC/Zergs/Events at the the last time i was online (ingame: no reflections/low shadows/rest at high, nvidia-cp: low quality/high performance)
now it’s ~55FPS on high+reflections@terrain&sky+high shadows on populated and heavy areas and high texture filtering quality at the nvidia cp
either it’s one of the magical framerate boosts that happened before a few times for a short period of time or it’s finally some game optimisation :D
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
I get ~30-45FPS around the winter event @ Lions Arch. (basicly 1/2 FPS lost in this one area)
I never really notice the frame rate dropping elsewhere in PvE. Must be WAY TO MUCH stuff going on for the net/game engine to keep up.
Anyone try adding “-perf” in your desktop GW2 link?
i used to really enjoy wintersday…but now i can’t even pass 45FPS without any shadows or reflections at LA since 2 days ago (i know, it could be worse…it’s not like i set up my GTX580 to max performance at the nvidia CP…oh wait! i did! -_-)…i didn’t even dared to participate at tixx’ airship at the black citadel
but that’s normal at any event…i mean the game is badly optimized and it requires some epic patch to be released…let’s hope that the money they get from wintersday gem store items will help releasing such a patch more sooner
the game performed so well the past 2 weeks and now this again -_-’
55FPS in LA with reflections and shadows at high…won’t see that again for a long time
i blame the internet and it’s ability to hype-storm anything…i doubt that the devs actually thought GW2 would be THAT active
GW2 already climbed up to the MMORPG throne and took a seat there
maybe the servers just can’t handle GW2’s awesomeness…who knows

you are using BETA drivers and wondering why some textures glitching up?
just roll back to previous versions
i have to admit that i’m using the same version and supply stashes glow up just like in OP’s link…but i’m too lazy to install a previous version
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
first: use “MSI Afterburner” for messing around with your GPU
second: increasing your GPU’s voltage won’t fix anything unless it’s overclocked
a driver crash can have different reasons
1: temps are too high – clean the dust on our GPU’s fan and/or manually set your fan speed curve of your GPU with MSI Afterburner or any similiar tool
2: bugged BETA driver or compatibility issues with your driver and GPU – try different driver versions
3: bad overclocking, this includes bad clocks (some cards run better with odd numbers while some don’t for example) and low voltages or even too high voltages which leads to overheating and eventually a driver crash
don’t just raise your GPU’s voltage just because it fixed “someones” driver crashes…you can damage your video card permanently
don’t mess with clocks and voltages at all if you are not 100% aware of the risks and if you actually know what you are doing
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
driver version 310.70BETA is still (again?) available on at the nvidia homepage
no noticeable performance changes in any of my games except a little bit smoother gameplay in some “Amnesia: The Dark Descent” custom storys
not a big fan of benchmarks…they never ensure the shown performance when actually launching applications/games
according to some benchmarks, my computer would be powerful enough to run a space cannon (big laser used for pyrotechnic shows)
most benchmark tools just focus on one component (at a time), which is the problem imo
the best benchmark is to use your computer normally and decide yourself how well it performs
oh and that site that Samaul linked said his installed driver is not approved, because 310.70 is a BETA driver
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
GW2 spreads the usage of a multicore CPU to 3-4 cores
one core is usually around 40-60% while the others chilling at 0-20% usage
if you want 100% GPU load so bad, just turn on “supersample” in-game
60% GPU usage does sound just about right to me
what FPS do you have exactly?
i’ll take a wild guess and say 50-60FPS in PvE, 25-40FPS in WvWvW zerg fights and 40-50 in LA
(reflections: terrain&sky, native rendersampling, anything else at “high”)
if thats about your framerate, then you can’t do anything other than the usual PC tweaking stuff like messing at the graphic’s card CP settings, turn off windows visuals when launching GW2, keep your windows partition clean or try different GPU driver versions, etc
but i doubt that you will notice any better performance after such tweaks
just wait until the game is more optimized either by patches or driver updates…but that will take some time
at least it’s fully play- and enjoyable atm, if we forget about the zerg parts ;D
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
well i just installed the latest BETA driver and it works pretty much exactly like the previous versions since 306.97 on my GTX580
no FPS loss no FPS gain…not on GW2 at least
@OP:
did you changed any graphic settings ingame before tha blackscreen issue occured? (resolution for example)
if yes, delete the “local.dat”-file located at “C:/Users/your windows account name/my documents/Guild Wars 2”
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
i’m surprised to say this, but actually, i can’t notice or confirm any FPS drop after the recent patch this time O.O
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
Ruled out software configuration like 3rd party antivirus etc? Best way to confirm is working from a clean slate like fresh OS install, if you are lazy maybe a bootable usb/live cd environment.
or simply perform a “clean boot” to check if a third party program is responsible for this…no need for a fresh OS
run “msconfig” (xp: start—->run—->type in “msconfig”—->enter, win vista/7: start—->at the search bar, type in “msconfig”—->click on the result)
at the “services” tab, disable all services, except windows ones (there should be a box which says "hide all microsoft services – check it before disabling all services!)
at the “system start” tab, disable everything
reboot and play some GW2 for a performance test
if that doesn’t help, enable everything again at msconfig
if that actually helps…well enable everything again and trial and error around by disabling one suspect, test, disable another suspect, test and so on
which geforce driver version are you using?
the latest beta one (310.64) gives me the same problem after leaving a heavy loading areas
i also recommend to set rendersampling to “subsample” on that system
on my second PC, (some old intel core duo @3GHz, GTS8800, 4GB ddr2 RAM) everything but subsample results in 5-10FPS
getting 20-30FPS there on medium settings, subsample as well as set everything to max performance on the nvidia-cp
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
well i have a really cheap 30 bucks 750W power supply and my gtx580 drains ALOT power, no-holds-barred
a bad combination right there
2 additional factors to consider when wondering why adaptive power management doesn’t work properly on some drivers for me
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
whoops i forgot it’s shown in bytes…should’ve looked more closely
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
it’s turned on globally by default…i swear it’s turned on after every clean install of a new driver version O.O
of course it’s disabled now since it adds no noticable change to the quality at any of my installed games other than invisible terrains at some places in GW2 if running native rendersampling
btw, the latest beta-driver seems to have problems again with adaptive power managment mode
the framerate drops to either 6 or 30FPS if i am leaving an heavy loading area like LA or BC to a low/medium loading area
well it actually is kinda awesome if your power supply sounds like a formula 1 racing car
i’m too lazy to roll back
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
that’s possible? sounds to awesome to be real
i’ll give it a try
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
sounds tough finding someone who is on the overflow server…my friendlist is offline
thanks for the link…though no one on there wants to do AC story
this site actually isn’t that great…doesn’t show you the exact server…it just differs between NA and EU…but it’s still beta so it’s ok i guess
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
try to reduce the shadows and/or reflection effects…those effects are well known in GW2 for their micro stuttering while walking/moving the camera
if you want a clean driver install:
remove your current nvidia drivers completely by uninstalling it and look for every nvidia folder
C:/NVIDIA
C:/Users/your windows username/AppData/Roaming/NVIDIA
C:/ProgramData/NVIDIA Corporation
C:/ProgramData/NVIDIA
C:/Programs/NVIDIA Corporation
C:/Programs (x86)/NVIDIA Corporation
now get the registry cleaner of your choice (i prefer the PC-cleaner “CCleaner”, because it first analyze bad/useless registry entrys and then you can check which one to fix while you have the choice for backing up your registry first, in case you are one of those “omg reg cleaner makes my pc explodes and now i have to repair my whole house”-type of guy)
then reboot, which you probably have done several times while uninstalling your nvidia drivers and install a fresh clean innocent new driver
i recommend the WHQL ones…the most recent BETA drivers are called BETA for a reason
though they can help improve performance but also they can cause instability
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”

you can stay on the overflow server if you’re already there, so i’m wondering if you can choose to travel there from your home server.
you’re wondering why? it’s simple: finding groups for some dungeons is absolutely impossible on my homeserver…transferring to another server is no option for me, since some of my friends play there and don’t want to wait another 24H to transfer back again just to wait 24H to transfer to another server to just be dissapointed that there’s no group for the desired dungeon either…so another 24H wasted
guesting is still not in-game so i can’t just travel my way through the german or international EU and NA servers until i find a group.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
about 15,6GB at the moment
but seriously…5 seconds of searching wouldn’t have hurt you
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
afaik there is no such command in-game
however, there is the windows integrated “Resource Monitor”, just go to “start” or press the windows button and search for “resmon”, at the network tab, check GW2.exe if it’s open and now at “TCP-connections” there should be shown the applications latency in ms aka “ping”
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
sounds like a bad memory according to the crash report…weird that this only happens on sp1
did you run a windows update right after installing sp1?
maybe some HDD issue, since you running 4GB of virtual RAM – try disabling virtual RAM…you have 8GB of physical RAM anyways
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
@topic: that AO glitch was always there if you run a driver version which got AO at the CP settings while having it enabled while running native-redersampling in-game
nvidia AO constitutes a graphics driver hack, so don’t expect support here.
i was like "wtf" then i googled and they indeed use some sort of graphic hack to apply/force AO in games which creates weird bugs and glitches most of the time
i wonder why it is turned on by default in the first place and why it is even there if it’s applied to games by a "hacking technique"...i mean most of all common games nowadays are online-multiplayer...
i’m even more confused now @_@
i never really thought much about that glitch since Squall mentioned the word "hack" but i’m pretty sure that could be abused for unfair scouting in WvWvW
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
seems like a common issue on 32-bit systems and some nvidia cards lately
the best solution would be upgrading to a 64-bit OS and 6GB RAM
but not everyone will buy a new OS just for one game
so until a patch is out (if there even will be one…), lower your graphic settings in-game and at the nvidia-CP
you might try to increase your virtual memory, by going to [start —> control panel —> system —> advanced system settings —>advanced tab —> below “performance”, click on “settings” —> advanced tab —> below “virtual memory”, click on “change”]
now you can audjust the virtual memory on the desired drives
i’m not sure if changing the virtual RAM would help you but it’s worth a try
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
I used to have 25-30 FPS in LA
…but than i took an arrow to the mainboard.
sorry…it was just too tempting.
anyways…such high drops in performance are caused by the user in most cases
what are your system specs?
did you changed anything on your system lately?
that includes, changing the clocks of your CPU or GPU, changed system settings on your OS, changed settings ingame, changed settings on your graphic-card’s control panel, installed any software which might running now in the background or even changed anything physically on your hardware.
or messing with your network. (network-card or router)
it could be thousands of reasons…but the lack of system information you provide us doesn’t help us much to help you.
i doubt that you want any help by looking at your last sentence.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
check for dust inside your computer and remove it if possible (especially at your GPU’s fan)
but make sure you don’t harm any components…i recommend compressed air out of a can sold by any well sorted computer store
until then:
if you have rendersampling at “supersample” in-game, turn it to “native”
manually set your GPU’s fan speed curve
you OC’ed your GPU previously so you porbably know how to do it
i’d suggest ~80% speed at 75°C+
monitor your GPU and test again (just play as usual)
i really hope it’s not a broken GPU
my first GPU’s, a 8800GT, life came to an end but i managed to keep it alive for about 1 week after caressing it
true story
and don’t hate on me, PC component professionals who read this, i’m just trying to be optimistic
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
it sounds like a graphic-card driver crash to me
your GPU might be overheating
what are your other system specs?
are you playing on a desktop PC or on a laptop?
did this also happen while your GPU’s voltage/clock speeds were at the stock-settings?
if you changed anything about the clock speed or voltage, it might be bad inputs
anyways, get the tool “GPU-Z”, it monitors your GPU and can save a log file of it’s temps/usage/fan speed/etc
just start the tool, go to the the “sensor” tab and check the box “log to file”
then start GW2 while GPU-Z running in the background and if it crashes again, you can close GPU-Z and upload the logfile
also, if you running alot other stuff in the background, like your internet browser when running a flash object or media players or other stuff which drains usage from your GPU, it might result in a driver crash if you are running graphic intense games
but that depends on your overall system, most PC’s should’n have problems with that
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
it seems like you didn’t searched properly:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/FPS-Issues-merged
if you can’t find a solution there, post your issue in that thread with detailed information about your system (temps, usage, logfiles, etc), what you already tried, to solve your performance problems and what changes you recently did on your system (BIOS, network, win7 settings, gfx-card-cp settings, etc)
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
1. I think we all get the first time turnaround stutter when loading into a new area. I just do a 360 each time and then I’m glass. I’m not sure there is a way around it.
haha i do that too
anyways, that gave me the most performance boost:
-turning off reflections in-game, ~15FPS more
-turning off aero-peek while running GW2, ~5FPS
-set “texture filtering – quality” to “performance” at the nvidia-cp, ~8FPS more
-overclocked GPU’s core clock at about 15% and memory clock at about 10%, ~5FPS
honestly, i can’t say if anything of that would help you, since your got a complete different system than i’ve got
any other attempts to increase my performance failed miserably (reinstalling GW2 and win7, OC’ed CPU to 3,8 then 3,9 then 4 and 4,1GHz, etc…the usual stuff)
usually, games wouldn’t need high-end CPU’s and GPU’s or high-end in general, unless you want to show-off your super awesome pointless 600+FPS
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
you have 3 options to fix this:
1: change the rendersampling either to subsample* or supersample**
if you want to keep it at native-rendersampling:
2: disable “Ambient Occlusion” at your graphic-card’s control panel
OR
3: disable reflections at the ingame-graphic options (recommended, since it gives you alot FPS pretty much everywhere)
*for low-performance PC’s – looks horrible
**only recommended if your graphic card can handle it – you can determine it by monitor your graphic-card’s temps and performance – if it’s temps are around 75°C or lower (roughly assumed, check the optimal temps on 100% load for your graphic-card model at the ATI or nvidia forums) and if the framrate doesn’t drop compared to native, then you are fine
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
good to know that ~30FPS in zergs is normal
gw2 runs awesome today in PvE/DE’s/torture-test-benchmark-cities
so i was curious about zergs…usually not into WvWvW…not yet
but had around 20~30FPS when we (~40 players) attacked a gate and the got steamrolled by another ~70 players
[optimism]then i died and had 60FPS again :P[/optimism]
i wonder how people can play on this horrible diashow…i can’t move my mouse properly and all skills are delayed…if the keys actually responds
in other mmo’s, you don’t need things like “reaction”…you stand completely still mostly while doing your skill-rotation
if SolarNova is correct, then it would have no effect upgrading my PC
wouldn’t do it anyways just for one single game, if everything else is running perfectly fine
got a little offtracked…sorry
anyways
the GPU in fact does affect the performance ingame way more than people might think
if OP don’t need super high end stuff and would like a nice balance between performance and price, go with a GTX 650 or GTX 650TI or something similiar in terms of price and performance
there are some cards of the GTX 400 series, simliar in performance and price you might want to check out
about the CPU: pretty much any i5/i7 quad core @3GHz+ would do it
keep in mind, you’ll most likely need a new mainboard too
about the RAM: if 666MHz is the labeled frequency, trade them in for ones with at least 1066MHz
what i recommend additionally to the suggestions on this forum/other internet sources: get some information about PC components and their performance, especially in combination at your trusted local computer store
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
3. A push-me, pull-me case fan setup is best. You need to pull air in to the front of your pc and push it out the back. Make sure that there is a fan behind your PCI bus or video cards and one in front of your hard drives.
Sorry this is a myth; in fact without specific load balance this results in serious inefficiencies. Speak to a mechanical engineer or better yet, to a millwright who has to actually deal with these things daily (on a much larger scale). There are reasons a dual setup can be an improvement in some cases but it has nothing to do with being superior to a proper single discharge setup, only because it may improve over a poorly designed setup, that is all.
highly depends on the case/cooler/other fans/other components location how to setup your fan for the best cooling
for example:
i got a big CPU cooler with 2 fans on each side (blows air OUT behind and suck air IN at the front), 1 fan at the ceiling (blows air OUT) and one at the bottom of the tower (blows air OUT)
i have a sprocketed big tower…nice for cooling purposes but it just draws dust in like a magnet
sure, my CPU is roughly 1~2°C more warm as it would if I’d had the front fan of my CPU cooler set to blow the air out, but then my NB and RAM temps would go significantly higher
it’s about the temps and lifespan of my complete system…a PC doesn’t just revolve around the CPU
i like how the air flows out of every side of my big-tower
so depending on your overall sytem, apply a little bit logic to the fan setup, monitor your temps and trial ’n error around if you know about the risks of messing with the insides of a computer

I am having the exact same ‘unstable’ problems here. One day the game is totally fine, with at least 80+ FPS.
The next day I log in, at the very same location, my FPS barely gets above 30. Actually, in the login screen it’s already noticeable in turning the character around.EDIT: Point in case, I just logged in, and everything runs completely fine and smooth.
same for me (i’m playing on a german server btw)
2 factors may play a role in this case:
1: the number of the overall online players (i never have any framerate higher than 40FPS everywhere during weekends)
2: a dynamic IP (depending on the current IP’s geolocation and your internetprovider, you may get about 5FPS more as well as an overall smoother gameplay)

megido got a point tho…i can’t see much of the great so called “CPU-demanding” that everyone tries to tell you…
if you got a decent 4-core @3GHz+ you don’t have to worry about your CPU
i can OC my i7 how much i want to without a single frame per second more
i’ve played more “CPU-demanding” games
i think, it “should” be as CPU-demanding as anyone tells you
the dev’s trying to optimize the the client’s usage of the user’s available CPU…i hope for an optimization patch within 2012 T_T
@Solar:
oh well…benchmarks
i just saw about 10 different one’s regarding different GPU’s
…they are all completely different
however, the GTX580 in fact seem to be about 10-15% more powerful
can’t afford anything better than a GTX650ti atm so i’ll just wait until the GPU-wars enters the next level
wait…wasn’t this thread about OC’ing a GPU and about it’s performance results?

looks like the TP has to be maintained
after doing my daily login to check if it’s a playable diashow today, text was displayed exactly like in your screenshot (trading post only)
i’d say, “Awesomium” doesn’t deserve it’s name
