Sometimes, when browsing through the LFG tool, i just can’t help but think “Why!?”, whilst shaking my head, laughing or sometimes both at the same time.
I read masterpieces, such as “TA fw /lv80 /exp /zerg /10k+AP /no Ranger”, made by a thief. (yes, “zerg”)
Or how about “AC p3 teach how to solo endboss /any class /only 50g”?
A special place in my heart will always belong to simply “p1”, created by a LV19 necro with about 250AP.
What were your best LFG reads so far?

“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
Why are people complaining so much about pets? My felines crit over 5k easily, and add vulnerability…
yeah…in solo PvE.
it’s dead after landing maybe 1 hit in any other scenario.
it seems, when browsing the profession section, that every class thinks they’re the worse.
but only 2 professions need serious attention: ranger (pets and spirits mostly) and engineer (overall).
i’d be happy, if they just shift over some DPS from the pet to the ranger…it seems like to much work to revamp a pets AI/behavior/survivability.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
so you want that perplexity madness to shift over to sPvP?
k.
edit: argh, too late.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
of course, such an idea (or a similiar one) should not force players to be in specific areas.
i want to read your ideas. also, feel free to make suggestions/fixes on my idea.
it’s kinda sad, that so many cool locations are basically dead.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
i’d like to know, how you’ve figured it out.
1000W? you doesn’t mess around lol.
600W is enough…unless your rig got a build in vacuum cleaner or if you aim for 4x crossfire. :P
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
dyes for pets.
pink bears everywhere!
but seriously, there are enough pets and instead of making new one’s, you rather want to make pets actually useful in the first place. they work just fine in solo-PvE, but fail everywhere else.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
i know, it’s very flawed.
it’s just meant to give some inspiriration to game designers or pop out similiar ideas from the community, like Rouven’s.
it could and will be exploited probably, by large numbers of organized AFK’ers, for example.
sure, some events do need a redesign to be motivating on all areas.
joining a dolyak zerg-train at the cursed shore is boring but profitable…so naturally, alot people are playing on cursed shore, while there’s really no reason to raid centaurs on the gendarran fields, especially with low populations.
gold > fun.
sad truth.
Lower population servers would feel left out and at a disadvantage. Same with people playing outside of prime time. Confusing.
would still work, if the server would recalculate in 1-2H intervals the minimum numbers of neccessary players on each area for the buff, depending on the current population.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
you’re feeling forever alone at the dredgehaunt cliffs? nobody there to raid the CoE entry?
well, here’s a suggestion that might change that and encourage players to spread around to the world of tyria!
“Natural Order System”
i thought about 2 different possibilities of this system:
Option 1.: if more and more areas reach a specific number of minimum players, a buff for the whole server pops up, giving magic find and/or karma and or other boosts.
example (one server – 3 areas – minimum players to activate buff – 10):
area 1: 3 players
area 2: 20 players
area 3: 7 players
since the minimum population of one area must be 10, only 1 stack of, let’s say, karma boost will be active for the whole server. (for example: +3% karma)
now let’s shift some numbers:
area 1: 10 players
area 2: 10 players
area 3: 10 players
now, the whole server would gain +9% karma.
this might encourage players to spread around more.
Option 2: give each area it’s own “Natural Order” buff, depending on the number of players on that area.
this value does increase after a certain population is reached, but decreases if too crowded.
example (buff activates at 10 players and shuts down at 30 players):
Area 1: 4 players (no buff)
Area 2: 15 players (buff active)
Area 3: 32 players (no buff)
no player is forced to join specific areas, that’s why the buff shouldn’t be too high.
what ’ya think?

You can just spend money and hope it is the PSU.
or refund the PSU, if it’s not working.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
set “Frame Limiter” to “Unlimited” and either use vsync or limit the framerate with a 3rd party tool, like MSI Afterburner.
when set to 30: FPS are stuck at 25
when set to 60: FPS are stuck at 50
bug since day 1. :P
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
when one of my PSU’s had started to fail on me a while ago, i couldn’t play some games (including GW2, Saints Row 3, Far Cry 3 and Dead Island) for more than 15 minutes w/o shutdown, but other’s worked just fine. (inlcuding BF3, GTAIV, Borderlands 2, Skyrim)
and keep in mind, Guild Wars 2 is one of the most demanding games out there atm.
i only got PSU shutdowns when in heavy, more demanding situations (LA, large events, etc) or when having 60FPS for too long.
BF4 seems well optimised in terms of performance…too bad that i hate too much on EA at this point…i’d really like to give it a try. :/

he should log-in to “guildwars2.com” and download the client from there. (@"MyAccount")
patching will also be alot faster.
alternatively, you can copy your client on an USB stick, and just drag&drop it on your friend’s PC.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
no GPU driver crashes? nothing in the event log of windows, besides a “sudden shutdown”? no BSOD? tried playing with stock clocks of your CPU? (in case you overclocked)
if you can answer everything with “yes”, then it’s most likely your PSU.
get a new one. if you have a spare one with equal or higher performance, you might wanna try it out and see if it fixes the problem. (well, higher wattage doesn’t mean it’s better or more stable…it may say, for example, “750w”, but without any seal of approval, like “bronze +” or higher, it may just be able to pull of 500w of performance)

i gave up on ascended weapons, after i’ve salvaged 20 lv80 exotic longbows, without a single dark matter.
the wonders of RNG.
my little brother got 12 out of six…
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
this is normal, especially for an mmorpg.
it was even worse a few months ago and some areas and locations still need optimisations. (for example: ascalon fractals and Lion’s Arch, which is even kitten systems when it’s almost empty)
turn “supersampling” to “native”, shadows to “high” (they may cause microstutters @ultra) and “reflection” to “terrain&sky”.
enjoy your new, smooth gameplay.
water should also look more realistic now.
note: you might get more out your GPU in heavy situations when tweaking the driver settings.
off topic: k, “hard” and “on” both together got “kittened” :P

rangers lack in DPS a bit, tho.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
for me, there’s a HUGE difference between a really good player and an elitist.
don’t mix ’em up.
and what OP describes, are simply good players.

“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
it’s a supporting “weapon” and i’m using it as such.
i never join a party without it, because together with my red moa, i can buff the whole group with fury – nonstop. (that +1 might is also welcome – +6 might for the group in total, when having a jungle stalker out)
the ranger’s DPS isn’t on par with other classes, so i might as well do what i can.
fixing the sticky 1H Sword and the Greatbow should have top-priority for now.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
the main problem i have as a ranger, is that range doesn’t help anyone in a group. if you get downed and are still aggroed, teammates have to run to you – the same for the other way around; you can’t contribute much to your team as a ranger when being in 1000+ range, except for a melee-pet buff.
that’s why i find myself in melee combat most of the time in dungeons.
range can only serve if it would have some kind of purpose to the whole team, like a minimum range of some enemies attacks, if someone of the team is at a proper range.
that way, i, as a ranger, can decoy/distract enemys and dodging their ranged attacks, while teammates at melee range can safely swing to their hearts content.
of course, aggro should still remain dynamic.
this would add new tactics, remove some stacking and overall, it would add a new depht to boss battles.
i’ve choosen ranger, because i wanted to battle in range…with bows and stuff, not to blow my horn and swing my 1H sword most of the time when in groups.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
Fine? We only really got through one fight, and that was by ‘stacking’ which seems to be somewhat controversial.
The Spider Queen’s AoE has a minimum range, so stacking on top of her makes her not fire it off. It’s not our fault the designers made it work this way. Some “exploits” are just players knowing how the game works.
the game requires skill. well…it should at least.
what’s the point of stacking at a boss, pressing “1”, autoattack and idk watch a video or grab a smoke? isn’t this supposed to be somewhat action-oriented?
well, that’s what i do with half the dungeon bosses in this game.
i do press “F2” to apply my cheetah’s +5 might buff to the group once in a while as well as healing/rezzing downed mate rarely.
but to be honest, having to dodge, while everyone spamming their skills on the boss, while on a stack would be pretty annoying, thanks to the over-the-top particle effects.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
AC explorable is the second hardest dungeon imo, while Arah story is by far the easiest.
i see some inconsistencies here. it should get harder as the dungeon level raises.
now it’s like this from easiest to hardest(explorable):
-Honor of Waves
-Caudecus Manor
-Embrace of Sorrow
-Twilight Arbor
-Citadel of Flames
-Crucible of Eternity
-Ascalonian Catacombs
-Arah
while EoS, TA, CoF and CoE share pretty much the same explorable difficulty imo.
also, difficulty inside a dungeon (between each path) is pretty incosistent too.
well, at least they fixed the burrows at AC, which are responsible for many wipes back in the day.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”

a fox. those are awesome.
they should have rather low stats, but have the ability to dodge here and then (chance to dodge do increase with traited beastmastery)
their F2 ability should give you and nearby allies vigor.
i wonder what it sounds like, if you would press F2 on that pet.

“we wipe? more heavy bags, aiiiight!” – my slogan when doing that fractal.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
now we have character in the world of tyria that unites an elitist with a bearbow?
dayuhm.
but seriously…that bearbow thing is getting old.
i only had once (ONCE) a pug with a serious bearbow. (even though, he was just like at 300 range, he autoattacked with his greatbow and bear out…)
however, i wish more rangers would pop out their cheetah (or red moa if no horn) in dungeons.
i can’t be the only ranger that thinks constant 5-6 might (and/or fury) for your team is useful…
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
you can almost instantly interrup the 1H swords sticky autoattack with it’s second and third skill and also with “Lightning Reflexes”.
still silly, that you can’t just dodge out normally, tho.
maybe, ‘cuz the 1H sword got other attacks, that dodge. (you could dodge 2 additional times, if the stickyness wouldn’t be there…sounds kinda OP against some enemys, like alpha.)
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
i’m with op. (most “experienced vets” will flame at me by just reading this.)
sometimes, skipping makes sense. (optional random champs, for example)
sometimes, it does not. (3 low def mobs, that ohk you, unless you melee)
most of the time, killing most mobs in your way makes a dungeon run more fun, faster , more profitable (high-lv dungeons only) and easier (or more challenging).
just recently, at arah p3, some “vet” stated, that we should stack at the first boss in a corner. (this seems to be a theme going on)
i said we should take that 1 minute to kill the mobs nearby, so we have plenty of room to fight/dodge/actually see the enemy. (which worked fine for me the previous runs)
nope…everyone listened to him/her instead and died.
he/she left, everyone got kicked out of the dungeon.
well, it was the first boss, not a big deal tbh.
but i also got kicked or the leader left too many times later in dungeons or even during the endboss.
on the other hand, one could say, it’s my fault for playing with those heartwarming and friendly players, but even if my LFG states “be patient, expect wipe, first timers welcome, no rush/skip”, elitists flame the crap out of the group and then leave. (i’ve waited 2H+ for this?)
and don’t get me started on that “4k AP+”, “EXP ONLY”, “SELL ARAH P2 @ENDBOSS 1%” and, of course, the good ol’ “ZERK OR KICK” madness.
elitists seem to forget the point of games: FUN.
don’t tell me, that it’s fun, challenging and tactical to skip every single mob, except the mandatory bosses.
oh and i also consider it “exploiting flawed dungeon design”.
please go easy on your bash on me, elitists, i’m a glass-zerk-ranger (with bear*), so i can’t take much hits.
*when @lupi…dat bear just never dies at phase 3.
tl;dr
1: i don’t like elitism.
2: i’m not casual.
3: elitists are ruining my gameplay experience.
4: item 3 is my own fault.
5. elitists can’t read.
6. LF social players.
7. bears are OP, nerf ’em.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
(edited by wauwi.9162)
i noticed that “elitism” got outta control during the last 2 months.
if i join a group and if getting asked for my gear, build or someone telling me how much my profession will fail on [insert content here], i simply leave.
the weird part is, they choose always the easiest way, because it’s the fastest (profit wise).
but at least it doesn’t reached a critical level yet…i’ve played games were i constantly got n00b-stamped when saying, that i have actually fun playing.
elitists = boneheads.
good news: there are enough big “fun-guilds” for all kind of activities out there, let it be serious WvWvW or just helping out and teaching at dungeons – without any commitments like ts³ or daily-logins.
pick-up groups gonna pick-up and join one of those guilds instead.

well, i’m lucky that my taste goes towards tier1 gear (sylvari).
the other ones doesn’t look as good as they do to me.
couldn’t afford them anyways…so win-win. still, i’m on OP’s side…too expensive.
either give tier3 culturals some nice animations/aura/whatever effect or reduce their prices.
if we’re already talking about tier3, why are tier3 fine materials (blood, sacs, bones, etc) as expensive or even more expensive as their tier5 counterparts? :P
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
can’t say much about every elite skill, but the ranger one’s are all useful…in certain scenarios at least.
(apologizing in advance for not knowing every english skill name)
the general “no bad choice” skill would be “Rampage as one”, fits in any situation and it’s stability buff will be excellent in higher level areas and some JP’s as well as other special situations, like fractals/cliffside.
in open world PvE, against champs, depending on the champ and his skills/size etc., either the seed-turret spam, the elite dog summoning or entangle.
if fighting quite a big number of mobs at the same time: entangle all the way
in dungeons, you can bring out your healing spirit, if playing a rather supportive role.
in WvW, i’ll go with seed turrets when defending and entangle when strafing alone.
i’ll now trying out to mainly use the summoning elite ability’s as my ranger in combination with a comsumable, which spawns one of six animals random at your side as a help for 5 minutes.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gortho,_Son_of_Malik
3 pets in total…i wonder if those extra 2 pets would benefit from beastmastery…but i guess not, right? :P

on the german forums, around october, someone made a “what you don’t like about GW2”-thread, so i countered with a “what do you like about GW2”-thread.
the positive feedback thread was dead a day after i made it and the negative feedback one is as active as ever. :/
bless the pale tree for the fact, that only very, very few players actively post in and visit the forums…i found quite a number of players (including my current guild) which are actually having alot of fun. (LA —-> /map)
it’s sad though, that constructive criticism and discussions about flaws/balancing issues, etc, which would actually helping the game to develope are getting completely flodded away by irrelevant complaints and rants.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
well, AC-story is pretty easy, perfect for newbies.
but then they’ll think: “huh…was challenging, but we did it, what could possibly go wrong if we do explorable mode? i mean it’s just 5 character levels higher.”
then they’ll meet the gravelings…oh boy, i remember my first time…still can’t hit the burrows with my longbow.
now, they’re using you as a ping-pong-ball all over the dungeon…the dev who coded that knockback/down into gravelings must be really sadistic. :P

I’ll play the way I want thank you very much. By the sounds of things you have too much time on your hands, fighting pointless trash mobs is nothing but a waste of time. Many bosses don’t reward well enough for the time it takes to kill them.
Plus when you’re trying to farm a dungeon doing the same things again and again gets old fast, so any way to speed things up is great.
All in all find a group that thinks the same way as you, just don’t think you can tell others what to do with a game they paid for.
so if i have the rights to play the game as i want, i can now feel free to do the following stuff, according to all those skipper’s “i can play however i want”-logic?
- exploiting (hey, it’s in the game sometimes and until its fixed, i can (ab)use it, right? i mean i can play however i want…)
- cheating (i’ve paid for the game, so lemme cheat plox)
- griefing (my 50 bucks, my game so i do it because i can)
“you can’t tell me what to do so you have no rights to complain if i do one of the above stuff”
#EPICLOGIC
dungeon skipping would be exploiting flawed dungeon design. i guess it’s just easier for a-net to clean up the mess afterwards, because so many (MANY) players are doing speedruns right now. would complicate things to prohibit speedruns until those dungeon design flaws are fixed.
AC and CM are examples of a better, fixed design. (though, they’re still a bit flawed)
CoE is an example of a good dungeon design. (the reason, why it’s the least played dungeon, i guess…)
the rewards at the end are not supposed to be obtained within 5-7 minutes, you know…slashing those “trashmobs” is part of getting those rewards.
fully completing a GW2 dungeon is also not some sort of 6-hour odyssey like in many k-grinders. well, skipping is a major part in many traditional mmorpg’s, considered and intended by developers. [“/say: everybody to the left wall until next room, k”]
tl;dr
a game have rules. dungeons in GW2 have their rules.
flawed dungeon designs making it possible for players to bypass these rules.
conclusion: skippers are exploiting.
it’s quite a shame, that speedruns and skipping strategies are so openly postet and discussed at these forums…not very promising for the future.

Gear treadmill?
Minis are gear now?Is that why they’re constantly putting out new minis in the form of BLTCs and New weapons skins in the form of BLTCs too?
so you’re only noticed minis and skins after a major update? what about the changes of the monthly/daily system? or laurels? or living story? i could go on if you will, but just look at the patchnotes of the past months.
some people will always just see what they wanna see…
When you say Gear treadmill you mean STATS treadmill, theres already new gear skins out in Gw2 ontop of the dungeon gears and the legendary and those dont require skills to obtain they require luck, luck and money
you can’t compare constant new skins and fashion stuff, which aren’t crucial to stay competetive with higher tier weapons/armor every once in a while.
you’re not forced to get those skins.
sure, ascended gear is coming, but step-by-step to prevent gear threadmill.
currently, there’re just ascended rings and charms…and they are not crucial. ( yet :/ )
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
omg! this sounds too good to be true.
i’m already enjoying rangers quite alot since launch but that would make it absolutely perfect!
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
if you’re looking for never-ending progression after max level (aka gear threadmill), than this is the wrong game for you.
it sure does have goals after level 80, like skin-hunting, legendary weapons, 100% world completion but the main goal is trying to just have fun, exploring, test your actual player skills and different builds out at competetive PvP or WvW.
it’ll sure get boring quick, if you’ll rush through everything, but don’t call GW2 “a lack-of-end game”-game if you do so.
and thanks to the monthly major updates, it won’t get boring that soon. ;D
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
this is GW2, not one of your tab-cyclers where every class stays put until either they or their enemy is dead.
get used to GW2’s battle mechanics.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
- better ranger pets.
- better ranger spirits.
- tradable fused weapons.
- dungeon speedrun exploit fix/barrier behind every group of mobs. (yes, i consider CoF P1 speedfarming for instance exploiting)
- more performance optimisations.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
i forgot to mention: GW2 is the only MMO with an actual story.(a story which does not consist only of every NPC making you read 6 pages of microscopic text)
it’s even customized until level 60.
and now with flame&frost…then the storys in dungeons which are all flowing together.
also i still don’t understand, why GW2 is the only MMO that is B2P? it’s always either F2P or P2P which both aren’t what i’m looking for.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”

thank lyssa they scrapped that concept.

“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
failing
that’s how i learn(ed) to play a dungeon.
it’s vital. you don’t know the dungeon yet, so you will fail sooner or later depending on the dungeon, unless you got an experienced player giving orders.
and once you’ve died, you know how to avoid you death the next time.
if you’re saying, that you’re a “enter dungeon name here”-newb after joining a PUG, depending on the PUG (and their rethorical abilitys and how friendly they are), you’ll get orders before the dangerous parts.
or you’ll get kicked…

suggestion section? good place but flooded. :P
what do you mean by “party matching system”?
just a LFG or some sort of LFG with requirements (special classes, builds and armor)?
the second one would encourage speedrunning through dungeons even more…
until an ingame LFG sees the light: http://gw2lfg.com
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
@dan matthews:
i’ve been playing GW2 sometimes casual, sometime more hardcore, some days not at all – since the release.
it’s anything but a grindfest. except if you consider everything where killing mobs is the main objective a grinder, then yes, any mmorpg is a grinder then.
grind = slaying the same mob for days for 30% of your exp bar or a piece of desired armor. (but most korean mmo’s are making you do that for weeks)
GW2 is not a grind unless you choose so.
i.e. the only grind on here i see is CoF P1 farming – that’s not the whole game and is just a reflection of some players greed to make gold really fast by exploiting flawed dungeon design.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
it’s the same with me and AION.
last december, i’ve wanted to give it a try again after months of inactivity and what can i say? it just feels so “stiff”.
i’ve enjoyed AION alot, but thanks to GW2, i can’t enjoy tab-cyclers or point’n-click MMO’s anymore.
once you’ve played GW2, you’ve got a one-way ticket to the dark side…and we all know the dark side got cookies for us.
so yeah, if i ever pick up another MMO, it must contain action-oriented battles without the need of certain builds (in most mmo’s, everyone goes with the same builds, since they are superior to others) or gear threadmill.
GW2 changed the genre, indeed.
it also got it’s flaws…seriously, it’s the most flawed game i’ve ever played, but for some reason, it’s also the best mmo, I’ve ever played.
