now look at my main and dissagree, i dare you.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
if you consider a religous debate on a videogame forum, which has stopped being about that video game since post #4 a good thread, then i’d agree.
this would (if even) fit more into the lore section.
to answer your question, alot norns (the generation of Eir, for example) stopped believing in the spirits of the wild and think they are made up by the elders. and some of them have doubts, they pray to them but get no answer. (they maybe have something else to do…uhm like protecting the wild animals? or getting kidnapped by bad guys? idk)
you’ll even meet and rescue a spirit of the wild pretty soon at your norn personal story.
as a ranger, you can even summon some.
so they aren’t “gods” ingame, just very strong and smart ghosts and keepers of the nature, having a religious debate over it becomes even more pointless.

well fitting then, 8/10.
“Aerrith” (yeah, “Aerith” was already taken…it is everytime in any game already taken -_-’)
not very original to name their chars like FFVII protagonists, i know, but ever since i’ve picked up my first MMO (RO), i’ve named all my chars like FFVII protagonists.
it’s originating from “Earth”. japanese people pronounced it “Earasú” – that was Aerith’ japanese name.
but since romaji always gets poorly translated…well…instead of a girl name “Earth”, we got “Aerith”.
sometimes, you gotta appreciate bad localization. :P

warriors are not op.
they’re just by far the easiest class to play.
in RPG’s, warriors are always the easiest class, perfect for newbies and straightforward and uncomplicated for anyone else.
on situations, where unskilled non-warriors, especially the glass professions, would be majorly punished for a mistake/bad dodge, a warrior would just…“shake it off”.
a warrior simply does not need much skill to be played successfully.
it’s a good thing btw…in any RPG, let it be action oriented or not, a warrior-type class is always reliable, thanks to his simplicity.

let’s bring some fun in this pointless out of control thread:
atheists are saying, if they can’t see it, it doesn’t exist.
christians counter with, “i can’t see air, so it doesn’t exist?”
i say: god promised to get rid of all evil.
odin promised that he’ll get rid of all ice giants.
i can’t see any ice giants, do you? :P

i can’t confirm that.
if there is any “lag” caused by polling, it’s not noticeable and even there would be any, it’s better than GW2 constantly crashing my driver or throttling my GPU.
GW2 is the one and only game which needs me to turn on my custom fan speed curve…
maybe it’s, because you’re running your AMD’s in crossfire…GW2 doesn’t like crossfire or SLI, neither does it like MSI Afterburner that much. :/

at a 4 member mid-level party, the double boss fight at AC story is fun
actually any AC story main boss fight (except for the flute-lady) is still fun.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
i’m out of facepalms to give. the title alone made me nuke-facepalm myself.
but the discussion on here…it’s not even related to GW2 anymore…just a religious debate.
how can someone take religion within a video-game so seriously in the first place?
-GW2 is game. games are fun.
-religous debates often leads to hate and are pointless. pointless hate is not fun.
put them together! seriously? O.o

wow, i really hope i never meet the “elitists” who are asking for my current gear…
they would kick me, then invite me just to kick me again.
seriously tho, half of PUGs i ever was in kicked at least one guy after a wipe…if the party has found a scapegoat for their failure (in GW2, one individual does not simply trigger a wipe) they’ll kick him/her.
and with your behavior, you were kinda asking for it…i mean it’s the risk you take when going with a PUG.

i’m not a pro but would someone seriously would like to see me hit&run a high level champion troll (actually meaning a mob, not a player :P) for 15 minutes?
i mean i don’t have any choice…my server’s so empty in alot of areas (tho it’s “very high” populated..) and i wanna to do events.
or should i start recording every dungeon run to prove that i’m always the last one who dies? (i mean of course, with 1500 range, usual dodge + 1HS dodge + lightning reflexes-dodge which buffs my endurance regeneration and also removes stun and the ability to let my pet heal myself ALOT when downed…)
well, my primary function is to support (neverending fury with redmoa+horn) and as long as i’m alive i can support and help downed mates. being able to stack 6 might (7 for me) for the party does increase the overall damage also quite a bit.
…still getting torn apart within less then a second by ascalonian gravelings. -_-’
can’t say much about how good i am against other players tho…not played enough WvW or sPvP yet to can tell…i mean i own quite alot when i do, but that could just be, cuz i’ve met newbs…i mean i’ve slayed a warriors in sPvP in a few seconds…that’s just not right.
i’m just an average player who found his “rythm” with his favorite class.
still dying and failing enough times…man, after 7months, i’m not even geared up yet…still having yellows and greens equipped. now that’s not casual anymore…that’s lazy

play what you want, tho either a shortbow or a longbow is recommended, because as a ranger you want *range", right?
and an axe can’t compete with either of those in terms of range.
really, play like you want, mess around with traits and weapons until you’ve got your rythm – practice makes the winners.
except for spirits…those are currently just bad for any kind of build i can come up with imo. :P
since axe skill #5 can block projectiles and inflicts decent damage to all surrounding close enemies, why not try that one out at your offhand?
or if you do like condition damage, i’d go with a torch. it also leaves behind a “combofield” – so if you throw you axe or swap to any bow, you’ll trigger a “projectile finisher” which burns your target.
trial&error, fellow ranger.

don’t forget to bring out the icebow skin.
well it’s an interesting idea. (these days, i consider anything “interesting” which is not full zerk…)
should make solo-champion killing too easy, if they aren’t immune to chill. (playing 7 months now and dunno if champions can be chilled or not lol.)
should also be nice/annyoing against melee classes. :P
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
i’d balance out the messed up TP market and making crafting profitable and buy tons of BL-keys to make accurate RNG stastistics.
everything else, like buying all legendaries, getting all culturals, give my whole server siege golems etc. would destroy the game for me
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”

i can confirm what dandamanno said; without supersampling, there’s no noticeable performance loss near fire/smoke when zooming in or walking by, unless it’s already a stress-situation. (i.e. alot players around, bad optimized area, etc.)
but again, that’s only for ppl with decent~powerful systems…
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
in dungeons, any skilled ranger survives longer than a warrior and can deliver almost as much damage.
as a warrior, it’s just easier, especially with a guardian around.
they aren’t OP or anything…in every RPG, a warrior is the easiest to pick-up, straight forward with bulky armor while recklessly hulk-smash everything – so much fun.
but that’s not the problem.
it’s the bad dungeon design…remove any possibility of rush through everything by implenting a barrier behind every group of trashmobs until they are killed.
would it be that hard?
it’s not that i can’t find a group as a ranger, (i mean i can deliver continuous fury and stack 6 might every 25 sec.) but finding a group for some dungeons, where a speedrun is not possible/profitable or finding a group without intending to skip content had become almost impossible.
i don’t want to speedrun…it’s neither fun or challenging, it’s just boring work for fast money…not exactly what i expect from a game.
sure, there will be QQ’ers, once they’d nerf some dungeons to oblivion, because legendarys will be alot harder to get, but they are never supposed to get fast in the first place – they’re the ultimate goal in GW2.
i never did CoF, tho i’m playing since release, because i couldn’t find a clear-run group yet.
@all “elitists”: GW2 is not a random f2p tab-cycle-k-grinder, you know.
instanced dungeons on here wouldn’t take 3 days to fully complete like in “those” games.
yes, i’m kinda mad about some player’s mentality.
speedruns in GW2 are exploiting game design flaws and i can’t understand why this isn’t fixed yet. and please do not post stuff like “i can play the game however i want”.
that’s nonsense…would you just put hotels all over the board when playing monopoly if you don’t own that street/s? or would you play texas hold ’em and draw until you get your desired hand? try justify that with “i play however i want”…
a good game comes with rules.
sorry for my little rant. :P
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”

I’m currently going with a “jungle stalker” and a “red moa”.
red moa+horn=neverending fury for me and allies nearby.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
at least a ranger got a pretty nice survivability added to his range. makes most world bosses soloable but tedious. :/
his support is somewhat ok with the right setup.
with a red moa+jungle stalker+horn+AoE Heal = 6 stacks of might + a decent fury duration + a small heal and regeneration boon – for all nearby allies.
you can additionally weakening foes with a longbow.
i prefer a farn dog instead of a red moa…they’re just more cool and the regen buff does make a difference in the heat of battle.
a skilled ranger got enough survivability and pet control (yeah, i know, the pet AI is limited and your pet will die anyways sooner or later) to constantly deliver those boons.
it’s not that awesome but desireable and i hope more dungeon groups start to appreciate the ranger more…i mean i’m always the last one, who gets killed in a dungeon…a coincidence? (well maybe i just get bad groups all the time -_-)
give our pets more survivability, transfer some of his dmg to the actual ranger and give us the ability to revive our pets back.
also make spirits at least fun to play…just imagine the possibilitys of a decent spirit setup.

“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
downed state of a ranger is also pretty awesome.
everytime when fighting a boss in a dungeon, i’m like “stop resurrecting me and keep that big guy off me instead of killing yourself trying to heal me!”
not to mention the trollface, that you can put on in sPvP when someone’s about to give you the final blow: downed skill #2 —> problem?
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
it would come in handy for PvE and certain other situations.
none of my elite-skills got any use against a bigger boss…so i’d rather put wethstone or a signet to it.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
what i want is, a transparent red or blue barrier behind every “trash mob” in every dungeon, until those “trash mobs” are dead.

elitists these days…
why bothering to play a game, if you do not intend to have fun playing that game?
legit question.
great, rich in 1 month – nothing left to do.
i’m actually fine with that “elitist” type of uber-pro playstyle…but please stop declaring everyone who wants to enjoy every content without shouting “n00b” or calling content “waste-of-time”.
it truly is in most mmo’s tbh…if you would actually slay everything at one of those game’s instances, you’d need a whole day for half of a run.
but this is Guild Wars 2.
that ruins the fun for players who actually want to have fun.
and the reward at the end of a dungeon is actually the reward for slashing those “useless trash mobs” you just unintentionally skipped.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”

in dungeons, i’m usually the last one who dies, tho i, as a ranger, of course get all the aggro.
“a survivability that is almost as good as a memser.
a DPS that is almost as good as an ele.
a defense that is almost as low as a marshmellow.
a bunch of spirits, which are almost completely useless.
- almost jack of all trades…even the useless ones: Ranger"

a little bit OP, no?

heavy PvE areas, like most of frostgorge sound: 40FPS before the patch – 52FPS after the patch. (note: should be 55FPS once i switched my video-card back to the x16 PCIe slot)
highfive to a-net.
LA’s performance is just slightly better: 42-43FPS on my benchmark spot instead of 38.
(again, add about 2-3 FPS to it)
and i’m certain, once i’m able to enter WvWvW, i’ll lost my motivation of uninstalling GW2, if the WvWvW gfx settings are working out as intended.
i really was about to lost all hope, but this patch once more showed: hope dies last.
oh and nice “quickening” tuning.

mid level areas in mmos are always empty
not sure why you are having trouble soloing the events though. the only ones in which you should have difficulty are the group events with the champions. And usually those can be completed if you give a shout out in map chat for it.
that shout out never works.
but if i solo’ed a champion down to below 10% tons of players creeping up all of the sudden…

are you sure, that you are actually playing “Guild Wars 2”?

or do fractals.
or just explore.
do story quests.
hunt achievements.
train your skills at the sPvP.
guest on more populated servers, if you think that most areas are too empty.
this game got tons of different stuff for everyone’s taste.
and it’s far away from being a grind, unless you’re going for a legendary.
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
get a 660ti instead of just a 660.
while it makes no difference in GW2, it will at any other newer game.
and yes, that’s more than enough.
though, "acceptable FPS" is a stretchy term at GW. :/
also, the only "ultra" settings are "supersampling", which doesn’t do anything but stresses your GPU if you don’t happen to own either a big screen or a low-resolution screen, "shadows", which got a bug that causes stutters on camera movement and "LOD".
for example, high on everything, LOD at ultra, rendersampling to your native screen resolution and reflections to "terrain&sky" and you will get the following:
PvE: 60FPS**
bigger DE’s: 45-60FPS*
LA or similiar demanding PvE areas: 30-60FPS*/***
sPvP: 60FPS**
WvWvW: 60FPS**
WvWvW karma train(15-25 players): 45-60FPS*
WvWvW zerg (40-70 players): 20-45FPS***
WvWvW zerg (75+ players): 15-35FPS***
*=changing quality or GPU/CPU frequency slightly affects performance
**=changing quality or GPU/CPU frequency highly affects performance
***=changing quality or GPU/CPU frequency does not noticeably affect performance
“Only the finest of potatoes in my zerkburgers.”
how can you play bad in a traditional tab-cycle mmorpg in the first place?
if GW2, as it’s battle mechanics are designed now, have got a healer instead of a downed-state, some bosses and almost all dungeons would be impossible.
imagine playing left4dead, only one of the four protagonists would be able to carry medipacks and instead of the downed state, you just would be dead.
someone should mod it that way and call it “left4hardcore” or something.
i know, that comparison isn’t perfect, since it’s a different genre, but GW2 tries to design dungeons like some FPS’s campaigns and sPvP like FPS online matches.
which is a pretty cool idea imo. needs alot of polishing tho.

it’s hard for me to find a friendly, medium sized casual guild for fun, helping out, messing about, being random.
on my server, you can only find a guild if your are at least logged in once a day, having ts³ and if one of the following applies to you:
- being inside the borderlands for at least 72 hours a day
- making at least 9001 fractal runs a day
i guess i’ll be forever alone. :/
Untrue, since this describes my guild perfectly. We’re casual, fun and we like to hang out. That’s all we really do. There are people who do other stuff, I assume, but I haven’t met any of them. lol
if you’re on an EU english or german server: may i join?
one of my problems in every mmo…i just always met the guys who are scolding me for having fun…at playing a game.
and if i’ve found a guild which advertises casuality, fun, etc., i end up being the only one at that guild after 2 weeks, excluding the leader.
and i just realized, bombing banners all over the town and guild missions are now a mandatory requirement too, to find a guild.
i guess i’ll have to switch servers…oh wait, that ain’t free anymore. >_<

culling made it at least play- and enjoyable for me during larger DE’s.
oh and i’ll seriously slice a quaggan, the next time someone says “meh it’s like that in every mmo” or “no other mmo got that large battles so go easy on it”.
it’s like i am the only one, who have played and enjoyed other mmo’s with large battles before GW2.
i admit, at first, i was like this too, because i couldn’t accept that and did every tweak and tune (ranging from extreme OC to minor software tweaks) on my system to boost the performance – without any change.
all i want is the promised quality for the paying customer.
