Stop suggesting stat switching for ascended. It should stay a legendary only perk. Most legendaries look terrible enough so there is no other reason to build them.

This makes no sense. Legendaries had the same stats as exotic before. The only reason to get them is their look. That’s the point of them. So you are saying people in fact did not make them for their looks but because of their ability to switch stats? Excuse me if I’m super skeptical of such a claim. Considering how easy exotics are to get it seems like an awful huge grind just to get stat swapping. The stat swapping is a perk for Legendaries now that Ascended has been introduced. But that’s not the reason why many people went out and made Legendaries. Most people made them long before the introduction of Ascended.

Ascended gear needs stat swapping. Period.

I’ve noticed several posts about “Factions.” All I know is I hate rep grinds in other games. They are mind numbing. So I’m not sure how you do this thing with Factions in a way that’s not a horrible grind. At the very least if you add rep don’t go with time gated nonsense like dailies. WoW’s MoP expansion was a horror full of rep grind dailies and I don’t want a repeat of that abomination.

edit: and oh yes, any rewards from Factions must be horizontal rewards. No gaining more power/stats.

I know I’m late, but I’d like to express my idea about the acquisition of Ascended gear.

Personally, I think this tier of equipment should be obtainable through different ways, not only crafting (and I see lot of players agree with me).

My idea is very simple: through Badges of Honor, Glory and Guild Commendations, because each of these tokens represent a different part of GW2. Players would be able to obtain Ascended gear by playing the part they enjoy the most.

ex: Random Ascended Sword:

  • 200 Badges of Honor + 5 gold
  • 20000 Glory + 5 gold
  • 10 Guild Commendations + 5 gold

Now, why is “random” important?
Because crafting gives the opportunity to choose the type of set the player wants (Zojja, Tonn, etc.), but it’s a long method and way more expansive than the “token + gold” method I listed above.
There is a total of 18 Ascended Sword, so it’s very unlikely that the player get the exact sword with just one try. But, at the same time, he get the opportunity to equip all the alts he has.
ex: I want a Zojja’s Greatsword for my warrior -> I spend 20000 Glory + 5 gold to buy “Random Ascended Greatsword” -> I get Tonn’s Greatsword instead… too bad, BUT I could give this weapon to my guardian! (of course these weapons should be Account Bound ).

Sooo… what do you think?

I’ll give my opinion about Horizontal Progression when Mr. Chris gives the green.

Thank you for reading!

I don’t like this idea at all. It’s more RNG-fest which is the last thing we need. Plus it will be wasteful because we can’t even salvage this gear. So here is my ranger and I’m trying for a berzerker bow and keep getting one with crappy stats that none of my other characters can use. That’s a huge waste of the time I put to get my badges or commendations. I want to know that my 10 commendations or honor badges are going toward the weapon I actually want.

Here is a crazy brainstorm idea, not in anyway indicative of our direction.

What if there was vertical progression in the Fractals with gear that increased in stats but when outside of the fractals defaulted back to BiS numbers?

I am asking this because it is going to generate some left field conversation not because I think it is or isn’t a good idea.

Chris

That would be ok in my book. Because I do not care about fractals and do not do them. So I would not feel forced to grind fractals for this gear since it doesn’t affect WvW or regular PVE.

Hi Deified.

The Tokens idea is interesting and I am sure you are noting that with our Mega Boss update Tequatl players can earn Ascended Weapons with Unique skins (Sunless) and that we will be moving forward with that paradigm. The idea of more challenging zone meta events was raised in the Living World CDI and a good idea. More to follow on that. I also agree that there is a huge amount of awesome progression to be found in guilds. ‘It has moderate to good horizontal progression for dungeon gear looks and WvW gear looks. Now it’s time to start introducing some new ways of horizontal progression.’ I agree.

Chris

I seriously hope that doesn’t mean updating the other world bosses to Teq’s level. Obviously that would be a disaster as there are many servers who can’t even get Teq down. Even on my server JQ we only get Teq down during server prime time (and sometimes not even then). So you would have a ton of world bosses that hardly any one can complete. I think the Orr boss level is more realistic for the open world. If you want a super hard boss for organized large groups you need to go instanced, not open world. Which is why it would be nice to see an Underworld instanced type zone.

I really wish there was a way for me to buy those mats from you OP. sighs Such a waste…

The dev didn’t really say anything just that you shouldn’t destroy them. This was before ascended armor came out but could also be hinting at a vendor coming where we can trade say 250 bloodstone dust for 20 emp fragments. Its kind of a bummer you need to spend money to save up on mats…kind of beats the point of saving up, eh?

I also wish I could trade one type of ascended mat for another. I have a decent amount of dragonite, but not alot of the emp fragments. Would love to trade for them.

Ascended gear should allow you the ability to change stats on it. With how obnoxious it is to get this gear it’s very anti-build experimentation. I don’t want to be stuck with one build. I want to try things out. Or maybe a build I was using was nerfed horribly and I want to change it. Whatever the reason, I should be able to experiment with builds and I shouldn’t have to grind several sets of Ascended for this. I shouldn’t be pigeonholed into one build.

Eh, I would love to have a ritualist or dervish in the game. Though I do think that’s something that should come later on. Right now they need to focus on the current classes and adding more skills to each class. Perhaps add the ability to “morph” or specialize certain skills/abilities.

An Underworld like elite instanced area where you can take up to 12 or so players. That way guilds have a bit more to do together. Don’t get me wrong guild missions are fun too and we should definitely have more of those in the open world, but I know there are many looking for large group content that is harder and instanced.

1) lower the level cap to 50.
2) Get rid of Ascended gear. If not that then have many more ways of acquiring it.
3) Maybe not remove Living Story but make it so that it leaves more permanent content
4) Make the actual LS story good
5) Give more skills to choose from per weapon set
6) dual spec for traits (so I can have a PVE spec and a WvW spec)
7) a PVE weapon/armor locker to more easily switch looks

There are many more things I’d like to change actually. But these are just the ones off the top of my head.

Why would they sell you an expansion for $40 with all new content when they can just copy and paste 90% of the game and sell it to you for $60 as a whole new game called ‘Wildstar’?

This is a very silly comment. Wildstar is nothing like GW2. It’s a subscription game for one, has more true action combat (though I still like GW2’s hybrid system), and also has player housing and raids. It also has factions and classes are locked to certain races. Not to mention it’s a sci-fi setting and the art is totally different.

If you hate crafting and you don’t do fractals you pretty much are screwed for ascended weapons and gear. That’s why they need to come up with other ways of getting them. And I hate that they are taking so long to implement such things because you KNOW whatever system they will add will be something time gated like a new currency and it will take forever to get pieces. I’d like to at least start working on that now instead of waiting a few months for them to implement a new system and then you’re already way behind the crafters and STILL are stuck behind a time gate to get the gear. At least use a currency we already have instead of adding a new one.

CDI- Character Progression- Vertical

Posted by: xarallei.4279

xarallei.4279

Oh and another thing about Ascended. Not only is it anti-alt and anti-build, it’s anti-transmog. Though I think the transmog system in the game generally is pretty bad, it’s even worse when you throw Ascended into the mix. If I want several “looks” to my gear, that’s just not going to happen with Ascended. I’ll have to do one look and that’s it. Because Ascended is too difficult to get so obviously I will only have one set of gear (per character if I am really lucky).

You need to create a separate PVE armor/weapon locker. Something similar to our HoM or how the achievement armors/weapons work. Oh and that is how the gem shop skins should work. It’s kind of BS that I have to go and buy it for one character and then it’s stuck on one set of gear. It should behave like HoM armor and always be available for me to pick up.

If you insist on keeping the silly transmute stone system at least merge it with the idea of the PVE locker. We get new armor. The pieces then “unlock” in the PVE locker forever. We can then unlock as many armor pieces or weapons as we want to the locker. To switch back and forth between looks we still need to use transmute stones. But you would never have to worry about losing a look and it would be easy to switch back and forth between looks.

(edit: I did forget about the transmute splitter. But I’ve never used one and to be honest I don’t know if it works to restore weapon or armor skins. Not to mention it’s still soul bound to one character. Gem skins should be account wide. And the splitter is overpriced I’m afraid. The convenience and organization of a PVE locker would be better.)

It’s Anet. NCSoft owns Anet, but it’s actually Anet that’s responsible for the developing the game.

I do agree that I wish they’d open more zones to explore. It would be nice to fight our way through the Far Shiverpeaks or open the gate to the Crystal Desert. Or take a ship to Cantha. So many places they can open up.

I’d like to see more guild missions in the open world and more rewards for guild commendations. More DEs in old zones and new zones to explore. An elite area like Underworld (but not limited to just 5 people, it would be nice to get a guild group in there).

Though one thing OP, cosmetics have always been and will always be a part of the game. They were a part of the original GW1 as well. So I disagree there. We need MORE armor and weapon skins in-game. I appreciate the gem store skins I really do (I’ve bought some myself), but there needs to be more in-game skins to choose from.

Oh yeah, bringing back the Hall of Monuments would be nice as someone mentioned above. It could be all a part of the next big Living Story (or better yet expansion) where we head to the Far Shiverpeaks and fight to retake the norn’s land. Have us fight our way up to the Eye of the North and take it back and restore it. Then players will have a new GW2 HoM like the one GW1 (though you would keep the guy with the HoM rewards there of course).

Giving us real player housing might also be something fun. Or a guild hall.

Well, you should already know how I feel about vertical progression. I still feel strongly that Ascended gear should never have been added to the game. They promised no gear treadmill and then gave us a gear treadmill. Now they said it was just to fill in a “gap” between getting exotics and legendary items. Ok, fine. It’s too fill in this mythical gap. But that only means that they better not EVER add another tier of gear after this.

So as far as vertical goes. NO MORE tiers of gear. Absolutely no raising the level cap and starting this treadmill all over again. Go the GW1 route and add lots of prestige sets in the game instead. Sets that are the same stats, but look great. As for the current Ascended gear, please add more ways of getting this gear (particularly weapons and armor). Right now it kind of sucks that you either must pray to the RNG gods in fractals or craft to get ascended weapons. There should be a way to get these pieces through laurels, karma, honor or guild commendations. At the very least you should make the Ascended mats NOT account bound and trade-able. Many people in GW2 have alts and right now this ascended system is not alt friendly, nor build friendly.

So what do I want? Yes, to more skills being available. More skills per weapon, more weapon types per class and more utility skills. Yes, to prestige armor. You can make it hard as hell to get, but the stats should not be better. Yes, to adding new zones to explore. Yes, to adding more dynamic events in old zones.

I’d love to see an elite area the equivalent of Underworld. I’d prefer something instanced that scaled so you can go in with a few people or many. It would be nice to have something more large scale for guildies to do together like that. Add more missions in the open world for guilds as well and add more rewards for guild commendations.

For the open world I want to go to the Far Shiverpeaks and fight Jormag. I want to cross the Crystal Desert into Elona. I want to cross the seas and see what the isolated Cantha is up to. Drop this odd stuff with the Living Story and go back to your roots. Either pick up the Dragons again with the norn trying to get their homeland back, bring back the Mursaat, or take us back to Cantha and Elona.

The Scarlet story has been rather underwhelming. I look forward to seeing it end and hopefully getting something that actually grabs my interest.

Ascended gear and Builds

Yeah, yet another reason why Ascended gear is just a terrible idea. I agree, it’s very discouraging. I want to try out different builds but I feel like I really can’t. I am afraid now they will nerf this because of people complaining. I don’t do the trains all day long. I jump on do a few runs and go back and level my alt or go do world bosses. Sometimes I jump into WvW. The champ trains and world bosses are good for getting ascended mats. I don’t do dungeons so if they nerf these events that kind of screws my ability to get the mats as getting them through WvW would not be good enough. And it’s not like I can buy the mats off the AH because they made them account bound. >_<

I personally think that killing low level champions should reward low level loot (this would help with the Silver Doubloon problem, if done correctly). I am not opposed to trains, but I think they should be level appropriate. If you want level 80 loot, hit Frostgorge Sound or Orr.

I don’t agree with this at all. The whole point of having the loot be decent is to encourage higher level people to spread out and go into lower level zones instead of just hanging out in the high level zones. Makes the world feel a bit more alive.

I say leave the trains alone. If that’s how people want to play, let them play.

The problem with your game for me...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: xarallei.4279

xarallei.4279

Leveling in this game is very easy and pretty kitten quick. Plus, Anet has given us the option of doing other things to level as well, like crafting. WvW is also a very viable way to level (I usually do levels 30+ in WvW). If you’re server is on the offensive taking keeps you level like crazy. I also like that there is no leveling curve. Always hated that in other games.

One thing I do wish for is that there was more content per zone so you don’t have to constantly be zone hopping to level in pve. That would make things a bit more alt friendly for me. But as it stands, if you zone hop you should not have any trouble leveling.

I do agree that they need to put more new skins in the actual game. Either through karma, crafting, or world drops.

Hmm so Jade Quarry sounds good except I don’t know when people will be on all the time unless it is Oceanic based, if I deleted my character wouldn’t I still have to pay in gems though?
Or wait 7 days?

Black Gate or Jade Quarry will probably be fine. Both those servers tend to have some people on 24/7 pretty much. If you’re character is very low level you might as well delete and choose a new server. You do not have to pay or wait if you do this. It’s free.

I wouldn’t recommend swapping to BG unless you like 30 minute+ queues for Borderlands and 3 hour minimum queues for EB.

Ewww, that bad with the queues on BG? Yeah, then he might want to try JQ. The queue to EB isn’t that bad and there isn’t a queue for borderlands (but there are still people on the map).

I really look forward to seeing an end to the whole Scarlet story line. To be honest, GW2 lore has been pretty disappointing for me so far. I feel like the Elder dragons have been barely touched and left in the dumpster. Instead we focus on the cobbled together Molten Alliance or the Toxic Alliance or Scarlet. It all feels shallow and forced. All these have been so underwhelming to me.

I love GW2. You’ve got ALOT going with this game. It’s got so much potential. But it’s just not where it needs to be yet. And the Living Story is a huge reason why it’s being held back. You guys have the lore. It’s there from GW1 and it’s pretty decent. Why not draw on that? You would make so many people happy.

Either focus back on the dragons…..say, let’s start a huge war to get back the homeland of the Norn and fight our way up through the Far Shiverpeaks to face Jormag. Or let us go to Elona to find out what is going on with Palawa Joko. Or Cantha (I would especially love this). Hell, you can throw in the dragons AND Cantha? (Bubbles just might be chillin’ around there afterall).

I WANT to care about the living story, but I just don’t at this moment. And because of that I pretty much have been ignoring all these patches. Because I just don’t care about this story. Please, make me care.

I’d also recommend making the patches last at least a month. Instead of breaking it every two weeks, just focus on a month worth of content instead. That would give people a bit more time to do things. And why not have more impact on the world as well? Have these events leave some permanent content in the game for people to do.

Sorry, this went on longer than I expected. But we’re all very passionate about this game.

The ranger nerfs. That’s my main class and they nerfed it across the board. If there was a problem with BM bunker builds they should have split the pve and pvp skills. Instead you took an already very weak class and butchered them. I haven’t been this disappointed in Anet since they introduced the abomination that is Ascended gear.

Wait…Rangers consistently claimed how great they were before this patch, how much “damage” they did, how great pets were, the list goes on, how tanky they could be etc…

Are you smoking something? Or listening to rangers who were smoking something? Because most rangers were NOT saying how “great” they were. Most rangers have been unhappy. For months and months. Anet promised to fix us and show us some love and we got barely anything and now we get a nerf. We have every right to be angry with Anet at this point.

it’s not a bug, this was intended. the reason behind this (and someone has mentioned it, possibly a dev, I’ll dig it up and link it later) is that each name you make for your own character utilizes a name database. now imagine for each individual pet you have you made unique names. That means new databases have to be created for each individual pet. Now I assume you have never programmed a database before, and I have only done non-professional maintenance on one, but they would have to make sections for each animal type, break it down to specific animals, then link individual names per animal to individual accounts, all the while making sure there is no redundancy of names and other redundant info…..it’s not really feasible, especially when it takes you all of 25 seconds to retype that name. If it takes you any longer, get typing lessons or choose a shorter name lol. now before you put the torches to me, I do think it would be prudent to make the actual pet slots name-bound, that way even if you swap, the same name is still there and saved in the same spot, only now you have a new pet (although this would still require new assignments, I think it would be much much less labor intensive). So there’s your answer. For now stop being lazy, they just don’t have the resources to do it. -Nay of the Ether.8913

These are just assumptions by players. Until I see an actual quote from a dev I don’t buy it. And you know what, even if it’s true then I’d say they created a really crappy system. WoW is an old game and you can rename every single pet you have. And there are countless pets to tame, way more than this game. They are even increasing stable size to 50 pets. If an old game can do this, then a modern game should be able to kitten well do this.

I also would love to have this. I have the issue with my ele too. Would be great to be able to map things differently for each char.

Thanks so much for this guide!

Thanks for a great guide! Btw if you hate running dungeons, two superior runes of water and four superior runes of altruism is your only choice for 80% boon duration (not a bad choice either).

Oh lol, that was related to what I was going to ask. I have that set up at the moment because I hate dungeons and don’t have access to monk runes. Was going to ask if it’s a viable set up….
