This “gap” excuse is pretty lame. Adding stats is not necessary for filling up such a gap. Adding content is what is necessary.
Oh I’d love a bard class. That’s always a fun class to play.
If I buy the expansion (and that’s a big if considering the stuff going on with ascended gear), I would like to see Dervish and Ritualists make a come back.
Maybe this is just their way to get people to run the dungeons? I know for a fact 50% of you haven’t done every dungeon.
Maybe that’s because many of us bloody hate dungeons and don’t want to do them.
False. Go read the blog post. Legendary is being bumped up to ascended level stats. So Legendary=Ascended which is superior to exotics. So the new end level gear is Ascended gear. And like I keep saying and you pro-ascended people keep ignoring, this is just the BEGINNING. It’s only going to get worse. People will gear out on this stuff and Anet will put out yet another tier and so on and so on. Plus they said infusions would make gear stronger. We still don’t know exactly how. These could more than make up any loss of stats on the ascended gear.
People are outraged because Anet said they wouldn’t do this and now they are. This is a gear treadmill. Doesn’t matter if it’s starting out “small”. It’s there and it’s going to only get worse. End level gear was supposed to be accessible and equally powerful to the rarer prestige type gear. Now that’s not the case. Ascended gear is stuck in dungeons and not accessible. And we weren’t supposed to have to worry about this. You were supposed to be able to take a break and come back and not worry about having to gear up. That was a main draw for many of us.
(edited by xarallei.4279)
Yeah, because they are going to just stop at that. Sure. You have to be bloody delusional to think that. It’s not going to stop here. It’s only going to get worse. People are angry because they were sold a game without a gear treadmill. Anet said over and over again there wouldn’t be one. Now they are turning their backs on that philosophy.
Now I have to worry about how when I come back form an absence (usually work related) I have to play catch up. One of the main draws was that you don’t have to worry about that crap. End level gear is accessible to all. The leet rare gear is grindy, but totally optional because it has equivalent stats to the normal end gear. That’s how it should work. Now they are adding ascended armor and sticking it in dungeons of all places.

The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. The rarest items have unique looks to help your character feel that sense of accomplishment, but it’s not required to play the game. We don’t need to make mandatory gear treadmills, we make all of it optional, so those who find it fun to chase this prestigious gear can do so, but those who don’t are just as powerful and get to have fun too. – Colin Johanson
“Those who don’t are JUST as powerful”. Only that’s not the case now. Now you need to grind to be just as powerful. Cause that’s what WvW people really want to do. Grind Dungeons. -_-
Yeah thanks a lot Anet for dumping one of the main draws of the game. Great work. /sarcasm
Whatever happened to this….
http://www.arena.net/blog/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success#more-8572
“Fun impacts loot collection. The rarest items in the game are not more powerful than other items, so you don’t need them to be the best. Legendaries are NOT better than exotics. Unless you mean stat allocation-wise. But the stats are not better. Get your facts straight. And people are concerned because this is only the START to the treadmill. It will only get worse here on out. We need to take a stand NOW before it gets there.
Lack of a treadmill was a huge draw for many of us. And it was a core philosophy from Anet that they constantly brought up. Now they are going back on that.
Straight from Anet:

Here’s the difference. A newly dinged level 80 can get full exotics with a week or two of DOING WHATEVER THEY WANT.
They don’t have to grind a PvE dungeon regardless of where their interests lie in this game.
This. Exotic gear basically had the same philosophy as the original GW1. In GW1 you could craft your end level gear very quickly and easily. Or if you wanted super cool looking gear you could do the intense grind for that. But everyone had access to the same end level gear. If you didn’t like the huge grind, you didn’t need it to do that. Now if you want the best gear, you need to grind PVE dungeons, which many don’t like.
And it doesn’t matter if it’s a small stat difference. People will feel pressure for it because you want to do what you can to have an edge on your opponent.
It goes against their whole philosophy:
http://venturebeat.c...s:guildwars2-16
“Here’s what we believe: If someone wants to play for a thousand hours to get an item that is so rare that other players can’t realistically acquire it, that rare item should be differentiated by its visual appearance and rarity alone, not by being more powerful than everything else in the game. Otherwise, your MMO becomes all about grinding to get the best gear. We don’t make grindy games — we leave the grind to other MMOs.”

What a load of BS. This is why we are angry:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/74995-manifesto-in-flames-what-can-be-done/
They promised us something and now they are backtracking on their whole philosophy. This is a philosophy they’ve had since GW1. This is something that drew many of us to GW2 to begin with. I’m very busy with work. It might mean taking time off from the game. This game WAS unique in that I could do that and not worry about playing catch up next time I log on. Not just me, I read a post from someone in the military getting deployed soon. That was a big draw for them too.
You DON’T need gear grind. It’s kitten lazy design. A crappy way to keep people playing. Be innovative Anet and come up with actual content to keep people busy.
They could add new content if they want to keep people busy, not add this boring extra layer of grind to force people to play. More continents to explore, more dungeons, more pvp modes (like GvG) and maps, more dynamic events, more skills to earn. Or miniature vanity pet battles and other mini-games like that. Things that DON’T affect stats.
This is dissapointing.
Now when I return from 6 month deployments I will have to grind out all new gear instead of jumping back in to enjoy the new content.
Having no gear treadmill was one of the main selling points of this game for me.
EXACTLY.
Well, I was hoping the articles were mistaken. But now that it’s confirmed……I am bloody disappointed in you Anet. I don’t want a gear treadmill. Freedom from that was what was unique about this game. You were supposed to be able to stop playing (for whatever reason, in my case it’s often work related) and then be able to pick up where you left off not worrying about suddenly being behind and having to play catch up. And those who love WvW didn’t have to worry about grinding pve content they hate.
Even in GW1 when you added infusions it did not work like this at all. This ascended gear should be the SAME stats as exotics. Add whatever pve mechanic/gimmick to it you want with the infusions, but leave the stats alone. This is a pretty big betrayal of your original philosophy.
I used to buy gems regularly. That’s pretty much going to stop now.
New gear skins are fine, new content is great, adding in gear with better stats than what exists currently…that’s kitten awful.
NO. We don’t need this type of gear in WvW. Neither sPvP nor WvW should have this. They need to kill this ascended armor idea . They should have just used the old GW1 infusion system if they wanted to keep pve people happy. Real pvp players don’t need uber stat gear.
Huge NAY.
Excited? More like disgusted. I’m really, really disappointed with you Anet. This is a gear treadmill and you’re sticking it in dungeons or the RNG-forge? What about people who hate dungeons and WvW alot? You know that people will feel pressure to grind out this miserable gear, right? Why go back on this point? That was one of the main draws of this game. No gear treadmill. If you want to add some silly pve thing, keep the gear stats the same as exotic but just add this infusion slot thing and make it so that is ONLY for pve. Not spvp or WvW.
I like to have news, it’s great. But when I read the ‘news’ and see that a gear treadmill is being introduced in a game that the devs proudly, if not loudly claimed they would not have in their ‘Manifesto’; I get a bit upset and feel betrayed.
This basically. It feels like a betrayal. I’m very disappointed in you Anet if this is true. It goes against everything you’ve been about. Maybe this all sounds dramatic, but when one of your main points is this lack of a gear treadmill and then you turn around and put one in…..well, it stings. GW2 was something different from your average mmo. The lack of the gear treadmill was a breath of fresh air.
And bringing up the fact that they already have our money and there is no sub so we should just “shut up”….that’s nice, except you’ll lose people when your next expansion comes out if you piss them off too much. Not to mention people can boycott buying from the gem shop. I regularly buy gems. Now I am not so certain….
But I suppose we should wait and hear an official response. It could be this article mucked things up.
To be honest this change makes me very angry. It’s probably the first thing Anet has done to REALLY piss me off. One of the huge draws of this game for me was the LACK of a gear treadmill. I do not want a game with that. If I did, I’d be playing WoW. If it was new cosmetic gear, I wouldn’t care. Then it’s optional. But if it’s gear with better stats (even slightly) that’s not optional. And if this stuff is tied to the new dungeons it means we’re forced to do that crap for the gear (sorry, I am not a dungeon fan).
If they do this I expect an alternative means of getting this gear and these infusions that do not include dungeon running. Though I really hope they nix the whole idea.
I’m noticing quite a few people having issues with the gem shop lately, in particular those who bought the Witch outfit. I recently bought some minis and accidentally bought two witch outfits(don’t ask how, I thought I hit the button the appropriate amount of times but I must have hit it one to many because they charged me for two). I put in a ticket because I want to get a refund on the other extra witch outfit (or get an exchange for the mad king outfit). Not sure if they can do this, but I figured it was worth a shot to try putting in a ticket.
Problem is I never received any of the items. And then the customer support person said they didn’t have a record of the purchases. I sent them a screen shot showing my recent purchases. Anyway, sometime today ONE witch outfit came in the mail. Still no sign of the minis and no word on what will happen with the extra witch outfit.
I’ve seen several people say they either didn’t get their outfit or they did and it disappeared from their inventory.
I must say Anet REALLY needs to come up with a system for restoring deleted items or deleted characters. I’m kind of shocked they actually launched a game without such things in place. So if your account gets hacked and your level 80 legendary wielding character gets erased, too bad? That really sucks.
Incident: 121102-000569
Bought witch outfit and a pack of normal minis. Didn’t received them. Also, I accidentally bought TWO witch outfits when I meant to buy one. Even though I don’t have anything yet it shows in my purchase history and it was deducted from my gems. I am not sure if it’s possible but could I exchange the extra witch outfit for a mad king outfit? That or just return the extra witch outfit and get a refund. Thanks.
I bought a witch outfit and some minis and never received them. They took my gems, but didn’t send the items.
Not sure what’s going on or if it’s related to your problem.
I think this is the right choice. I wouldn’t be against them re-introducing the orbs in the future when they can figure out how to stop hackers. But even if they did they would need to drastically reduce the buff. Agree with others that the current unmanned buff would be more appropriate for the orb since it doesn’t affect wvw at all.
Yeah, this week’s match was kind of embarrassing for IoJ. I’m shocked that the ball was dropped. SoS is such a strong server I don’t know why people thought they could be lazy this week. Especially since HoD would be non-existent, so we wouldn’t get any help from that front making it essentially a 1v1 battle. That meant we really needed to bring it and we didn’t. Whether it was for candy or people just being totally unprepared or what, who knows. What’s done is done. All I know is I hope we are ready next match because SoR is also a very tough as nails server.
Recruit NA players. You might think they might not do it, but you never know. Some people might be willing to do it for smaller queue times (due to it being off hours in europe) and a strong WvW server.
Personally, I would be VERY happy to have any french or german guilds (or any european guilds for that matter regardless of the language spoken) join Isle of Janthir. Please feel free to come on over.
Remember you don’t need to have the whole guild speaking english. All it takes is a few people who know english so you can coordinate with other groups in WvW.
(edited by xarallei.4279)
I’ve heard Blackgate is the new HoD, mainly because many HoD guilds went to BG. Though SoS is pretty strong in their own right. They got a lot of new blood.
IoJ needs more Euro and NA players to cover the weak spots in coverage. hint hint to those looking for someplace new to go
Have the items to discover the recipes all been revealed yet? I want to know what I need to stock up on. Shame there is no long bow skin though.
I agree. It’s such a shame they are town clothes. I’m almost never in town. I run around the world and do WvW. So there is no real time for me to enjoy these outfits. Such a shame. Oh and that cat familiar pet ability for the witch outfit……make that a real mini please!
I would love more kitty minis in this game and that one is too cute.
Violently disagree with the OP. Splits are absolutely necessary and I hope we see more. I was extremely disappointed when Anet announced that there were no splits before launch. And I knew that choice would come back to bite them. Balance in any game is practically impossible. However, you can try to strive to be as balanced as you can and the first step toward that is splitting pve and pvp.
Honestly I don’t really want the open world stuff to be super difficult. I consider that the casual content and it’s not meant to be super hard. The hard stuff is supposed to be the explorable mode dungeons. Though I do think the large scale zerg DEs need tweaking.
Free transfers are not fine. They do impact things and wreck havoc on servers. They aren’t the only reason for the mess, but they certainly ARE a factor. If they insist on keeping transfers open until guesting is ready they absolutely need to raise the lockout time once you transfer to two weeks.
I despise premium account type games. I will quit the second they do this. The system they have now is fine. You can buy gems if you wish to support them and convert that to gold.
I never got to do the major beta events because they would always do them at midnight pacific time and I’m on the east coast and had to work the next day.
So yeah, it would be nice to see them bring back events similar to those.
Yup. They initially said that pve and pvp would be split like in GW1. Then they suddenly changed their minds. The moment they did I knew it was a huge mistake. You have to split the two. Balance is always a difficult thing to achieve, but keeping those two things tied together pretty much destroys any chance at balance. One part of the game will always be ruined in favor of another. There’s just no getting around it. That’s why it’s such a poor system.
Anything overpowered in PvP is overpowered in PvE. This conversation is just another version of “let me keep my IWIN button”.

It’s not even funny how wrong this statement is.
If you are patient any skill point that’s bugged will be fixed soon enough. I’ve had it happen to me several times and I’d report it and the next day it would be fixed and I could get the point. No transfers involved. And for the map completion, again if you are patient just wait for your server to get the part of the map you need the following week. There is no need to destroy WvW for these types of things and the free transfers ARE seriously messing with it.
For the love of god don’t listen to these people. >_< Unless, it’s that buffing signet idea. I’d agree to nerf warhorn swiftness if they buffed the hell out of the signet at least. But we need speed boosts. Things are slow enough in this game (especially if you want to save money not using waypoints), we don’t need things to be even more slow.
Yeah, they need to stop free server transfers asap. Or at the very least they need to lock down the higher populated servers. Right now they only lock them when they are full. They need to lock them down regardless of whether their status is full or not. I know they want guesting to be live first, but I think it’s for the best to lock things down and then introduce guesting later. The free transfers are actually preventing realms from stabilizing.
I hope you’re joking. Rangers aren’t even remotely op and certainly do NOT need nerfing.
And the forums aren’t a good way to gauge anything. Especially not what the majority thinks in game. Like it or not a small minority visit forums and usually the complainers are the loudest making it look skewed.
The new events, bosses, and mini-dungeons are included in the Shadow of Mad King release, same thing goes for everything on that page!
These new things aren’t just for level 80s are they? I must admit I’ve been extra busy IRL and not able to level to 80 yet. Plus I’ve been jumping back and forth between characters instead of focusing on leveling one. I’m going to have another busy work week next week (yay 12 hour workdays) so I can’t get to 80 in time for Oct 22nd. So I’m hoping these things are fun things for all levels. Don’t want to miss out on them…
I feel like the sandwichmancer class remains horribly unbalanced, NERF IT ANET!
lol.
I love moments like this. People take things way too seriously and need to lighten up.
Anet knows there are balance issues. And yes, I do hope they work on them asap.
Though quite frankly I think balance is a total fantasy. I’ve never come across a so-called balanced game. Ever. It does not exist. It will never exist. Can they work to make it as balanced as they can? Sure. But so many people seem to demand this perfectly balanced game and it’s just not going to happen.
Hi guys, I missed my old beta server so I decided to return to IoJ. But now I’m looking for a guild. I’m fairly busy with work IRL, so a guild that accepts a more casual playstyle is what I need. I like both pve and pvp, though I tend to pve more. It’s very important to have a really friendly, laid back and ACTIVE group of people to just run around and have fun with.
So, any suggestions on a nice friendly guild on IoJ? Thanks!
I’m confused. I run events all the time and still get karma. Unless you mean there is some sort of cap for doing the same one over and over again. Then I don’t really care….
Can anyone explain about these supposed caps and how they work?
I really hate the change. Let US decide if/when to revive our pets. We don’t need you to decide for us.
