My understanding is that the utilities are not AI. They are more like wells with fancy animations. It’s not like a spirit or a minion that you can kill and it doesn’t act on its own.

And the xpac is out in September. They certainly aren’t going to redo the elite at this stage of the game.

Got into a Fractal today, one of my party-mates called out the thief for using horribly optimized gear in T4. Turned out the Thief used the DPS meter as well so their gear was viewable to the other teammate with the DPS meter and they didn’t know you could view others gear with it. Booted them out. (Before you scream, they were wearing soldiers, sentinels and clerics gear. In T4 as a thief.) And refused to ping their gear when they were called out. So yeah DPS meters are pretty cool.

That is the non-compliant version of said meter. You cannot use versions with gear checks. And quite frankly, you don’t need them anyway. That soldiers, clerics, sentinels thief probably had terrible dps so they could have used that as a metric to judge him by.

Sure you can have your fully automated system….so long as we can still have a proper lfg to make our own groups with full capabilities to remove players with no penalty (like it is now). And you can have some small reward as encouragement just like WoW has a reward for the dungeon lfg there. People who play harder roles can also have a bit of an extra reward when there is a low amount of particular class roles available (commonly tanks and healers).

Those raiding strictly for the fastest completion time are just grinders who should get regular rewards for completing a task for a minimum of effort.

What? So hardcore players who have mastered the content should be rewarded less? That’s kind of absurd. And I’m not even a hardcore player.

Yeah, also not a fan of hearts. -_- I’m kind of disappointed that they brought those back. Always found them dreadful.

I knew I wasn’t alone. But are we in the minority now?
What I found to be dreadful was that hearts are ‘the generic quests’ one finds in generic mmorpgs. Fetch and kill quests. But with a heart over an NPC instead of an exclamation point.

Exactly. That’s why I hate them. They are so kitten boring they make me want to cry. lol. But it seems if you want to identify all those unidentified gears you have to do hearts to unlock the vendors for them. And I’m betting they reset daily so you have to do the heart every single time. The joy. I am so looking forward to that. /s

So right off the bat PoF has two disappointing features for me, hearts and adventures. Hopefully, the good will outweigh the bad. Or the bad will be totally optional at least.

…Beginer mode raids would be good for casuals to learn the mechanics and decide if raiding is something that interests them to skill up at. I have killed only one boss (to open raid masteries) but i would love casual raiding when the mood stikes me. Then i would maybe see the value of meta if i wanted to do intermediate mode raids.

This is the thing though, people in MMOs (not just GW2) lean on dps meters because of the general lack of feedback the game gives as to what is going wrong with group play. In solo instances it’s all you, in groups though it can be hard to tell where the issue is.

However the use of dps meters to kick someone who presumably has neither agreed to have their dps taken nor aware of what the meter was actually reading is problematic. For all the OP knows the group was after someone who was the top 0.1% because the rest of the group wasn’t quite up to scratch either. Here in lies the trouble. If Anet wants to allow the use of dps meters they really ought to build them into the game outright. Then allow switches in pugs that either the whole group gets the dps meter or no one does.

I don’t agree with this. Not the idea of Anet building in a dps meter. That’s actually not a bad idea. Especially, if they give us proper combat logs that we can upload to a WorldofLogs type site. But I don’t agree with this whole turn off the meters thing. I like my meter and I should always be able to see my own personal dps at the very least.

I don’t mind that they exist I suppose, so long as I am not pressured into doing them. Like JPs. I don’t like those, but they are optional content so I’m okay with them.

You don’t have to buy gems with real money if you don’t want to. You can always farm gold in game and then convert to gems. If you haven’t logged in this entire time, then yes you will need to use gems to unlock the past Living Stories (not including Season 1, which is not available). The biggest QoL things to get are the bank tabs and bag slots. Shared inventory slots are nice too.

I had absolutely no issues with the BGDM UI. In fact, it’s my favorite and I prefer it to arc. Also, never had problems with the updates and loved that they were automatic. As for the third point, I don’t understand how that makes the meter “bad.” The meter is still perfectly good. It’s a shame that he’s dropping it and hopefully someone else takes up the mantle.

Anet hasn’t added a new tier since Ascended back in 2012. They stated they will never add new tiers. So he is just guessing.

And raiding in this game is very much not hardcore. I used to raid a lot in WoW, so I do understand the “second job” feel to it. But GW2’s raiding doesn’t feel that way to me. It’s quite fun actually.

If you are a druid, no one is going to expect insane damage from you. Especially, if you are a magi druid. It is very much understood that druids are there for support/buffs. That said, someone might kick you if you aren’t supporting well enough through GotL, spirits, etc.

Anyone who kicks a druid for dps is just being absolutely ridiculous. You wouldn’t want to be in a group with people like that anyway.

How much "group play" for Astralaria?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: xarallei.4279

xarallei.4279

I just made Chuka and Champawat. The group oriented stuff was the fractals, the WvW and it also require several meta events in HoT maps and core tyria maps.

The core tyria stuff is super easy. There are usually always people around doing the world bosses.

Don’t be scared of the fractals. They do require you to use the lfg, but there are usually always people doing these tier 1 fractals for their legendaries or for the daily or whatever. They are also super easy and the item is a guaranteed drop, so you only need to do it once.

WvW…again, pretty easy. Just go to a map that has a commander tag up and follow the zerg.

The “hardest” thing I had to do to complete was actually the events on the HoT maps. Not the big boss events like Dragon Stand or the Chak Gerent. There are always people doing those and you can use the lfg to taxi onto a good map. It’s actually the smaller meta events, like the Ordance camp (Blighted Tree) event in VB that gave me the most trouble. Hopefully your collection does not require this event because no one seems to like to do it and it is hard to solo (that stupid salvage parts part takes FOREVER and night will end up hitting before the event completes and you fail. -_-) You have to just keep trying. Maybe ask in map chat for help. Hell, if you need help on one of these things feel free to whisper me in game and I will gladly help out.

DPS meter really?

xarallei.4279

It’s why I probably won’t ever get to make one of the newer style legendaries, since you have to do fractals, and I’m betting no one wants me to tag along.

I did manage an old school Bifrost before HoT, and did Aurora, so that was fun.

It’s just not fun. Even if you “can” do it. People always assume that if you’re against meters you’re a bad player, but that’s not true. Whether I know what I’m doing or just kind of bumbling around, either way, the "meter’ makes it unfun. It’s like being policed by people I don’t even know, and since we don’t know each other there is a free pass to be jerks.

It’s unfun. I can’t tell you how many times in WoW we’d down a new boss and the first thing everyone would do is start comparing their meters to see who “beat” who. Uhhh… didn’t we just collectively beat the boss? Why are we now beating each other when we are supposed to be a team?

Maybe I just don’t have the same competitive mentality and therefore don’t “get” it. I’ve always hated this DPS meter stuff though. It’s a pass to be mean, unhelpful, and it causes real anxiety for a lot of folks to know that we’re all essentially being spied on by total strangers. I could count on one hand the times I saw someone use DPS meter information as a learning tool. The number of times I saw someone use it as a free pass to be rude? Boy, I’d need to grow 200 more hands to count that.

I have to agree with you on this fully !! and I will not say which one of the two dps meters it is but I can say when pof comes out next month one of thos said dps meters will be fully dead and thankfully never ever coming back . bad part is that it will still leave us in the same stuck point .with the other one and all these well not too bright dps meters peeps running around . trying to take away from our fun in the game . personally when I see people in the game or forums talking about this topic . I put them in the blocked list in game . so at least it saves me some headaches their .

I don’t know why you are anti-BGDM (the addon in question). You should actually be upset that it’s going down. BGDM only showed other people’s dps if they installed it. Not only that, but there is a setting to stop it from sharing your information so that it only acts as a personal dps meter. Which is actually a very positive thing because it helps you improve. With BGDM down, everyone will now be using arcdps which shows everyone’s dps.

Though to be honest, for me it’s been fine. I was VERY wary of things going downhill when Anet first announced that they were allowing meters. Especially, since they said they were ok with group dps meters. I could foresee all sorts of bad behavior. That said, I haven’t experienced this at all so far. I’ve used both meters and have had found them to be helpful overall at least in terms of self improvement.

Request- Strafe for Mounts

xarallei.4279

I disagree with OP and will say no to strafing.

The way the mounts were created in Guild Wars 2 is absolutely lovely. It feels like a mount, it feels heavy, the animations are spot on and you actually feel like you’re “driving” or “riding” something in a direction.

World of Warcraft’s sytem with mounts which is just a cosmetic speed boost is boring, and we needed something new.

This is absolutely perfect.

But that makes no sense. If you are going for this realistic feeling of being on a mount strafing is absolutely part of that. Most animals can strafe. It’s unnatural to not be able to strafe. At the very least there should be a compromise. I prefer to have more control and to move instantly, but I’m willing to give that up and leave the movement as is so long as they give us strafing in return. And this doesn’t even bring in the motion sickness issue I have, but again I’m willing to sacrifice here and leave the motion as is so long as I have my strafing.

Well, we don’t actually know how many are affected. This thread is the only thing we have and in comparison with the player population it’s a very small amount of people. It’s rough I know, but it’s not really fair to take away the enjoyment from the majority of people who don’t have this problem. And I’m saying this as someone who commonly has issues with motion sickness in video games (including this one). If there was an easy way to fix this issue so that the majority could enjoy the mounts as they are and those with MS could use the mounts without medicine that would be best. But if not, I think majority rules and Anet should keep the mounts as they are.

The only thing that maybe would help and wouldn’t hinder anyone is allowing us to zoom out the camera even further than we can now. I do think if I could zoom out the camera further that might really help.

I strongly disagree. I really like that the mount reacts a bit delayed. After all, you dont control the mount directly, you control your char wich is riding the mount. I think it feels really organic this way. You cant just do an instant 180, the raptor has to run a small half-circle instead and im very glad about it.

In most other MMOs mounts feel just like a thing wich gives your char a speedboost and has a cool skin, but here it feels like your char is riding a real animal.

I get that people might prefer the realistic movement and not want the instant 180, but the raptor should be able to strafe. It feels unnatural that it’s just completely unable to do this.

Hello,

I merged this thread to make it stand out a little better and to focus attention on this situation so that if others also are experiencing such issues, they can join in.

I’m sorry that you’re having this issue. I wonder, have you tried lowering your Visual Blur setting? That is a specific recommendation from the team, and they feel it may help with this problem.

We’d love to hear from you if this adjustment is effective. Team members who have worked/are working on the mounts will be tracking this feedback!

That’s not going to help. I know because I have experienced this type of thing constantly in other games I’ve played. It’s the way the mount moves and the camera that is causing the problem. If the mount moved exactly like a player character people wouldn’t be having this issue. I also have my camera out as far as it can go. If I could zoom out even further maybe that would help, but the game doesn’t allow this.

I experienced this problem as well during my time testing the mount. What I always do is take dramamine. If you don’t have dramamine on hand then try popping a benadryl. That has an ingredient that is very similar to dramamine and helps with motion sickness. You might have to keep doing this for several days. Hopefully, your body will adjust and you will stop needing the medicine.

To fix the problem would require Anet to completely change the way the mount moves and I’m not sure they are going to be willing to do that at this stage in the game. It’s just something we must deal with since most people probably do not experience this issue. Try the dramamine/benadryl in the meantime. It does help. Oh and you can try motion sickness wrist bands. I’ve never tried those before, but I would think it should work, at least theoretically.

This. I noticed I could not strafe on my mount. It’s obnoxious. When I use my A or D (the buttons I have bound to strafe on my pc) they just turn the mount around.

And mouse turning is clunky/slow too. The whole movement of the mount is a bit jarring. I guess you are going for a realistic feeling, but I would prefer mounts move in the same manner as player characters. Seriously, the mount actually makes me feel ill when I use it. Had to take a dramamine.

Yeah, I was looking at those. It’s insane. Are we really going to ever use them? They are such a huge energy drain. Between those F2-F3 skills plus the utility energy cost….way too much energy is being used. How are we going to have any energy to even use our weapons? I see us either not using these abilities so we can use our weapons or using the non-weapon skills/utilities and then basically just auto attacking because we’ll never have energy to do anything else.

Unless, this new traitline gives us some energy regen mechanic. That would be very much needed. Guess we just have to wait and see. Maybe it will work out.

I don’t think the upcoming nerfs to consumables are going to make the condi meta go away at all. Of course, we don’t know what else they have in store for us in the upcoming balance patch.
