The first half of LS1 was certainly a mess. I didn’t do most of the things because they bored me horribly. However, the latter half with Tower of Nightmares, Marionette, Battle for LA were fun as hell. MUCH more fun than anything that happened this season. Marionette is still one of my favorite boss fights in this game. The Silver Wastes boss is just a pale imitation of it unfortunately.
That alone makes LS1 better than LS3. LS3 had a mess of a story and I wasn’t very engaged. I was either ambivalent about what was going on or hated it. Like when Anet foolishly made my character make a bloody oath to the Shining Blade. I’m still annoyed about that. Hated that last episode for a lot of things though. Hated the way they just threw in Livia out of the blue with no set up. Hated how they brought back Laz for 5 seconds only to kill him off. And everything that happens in these episodes is instanced with no huge impacts on the world around you anyway.
I will take LS1 over LS3 any day for those big battles alone. As for LS2, that at least had an interesting story, though it was too short.
I don’t really like it. But I’ll wait for final judgement when we try it out in a few weeks. I really hope DD is still better than this new spec for raiding. In the open world or wvw deadeye might be fine though.
A little off topic … Glint in condition damage is a thing to begin with?. I suspect this elite spec, if it supplies a condi shortbow … will suspect it supports a condi and/or shortbow build in the first place. At least much better than Glint ever did.
Glint has a burn, a good heal and might + fury are never bad. But even then it’s not the best choice in a condi build.
So no, Renegade will not miss Glint.Glint provides through Elemental Blast fire damage and chill (which also provides torment when properly traited). I did spent most of my time in the current PvP season playing a condition build with Glint + Mallyx and the Deadshot amulet (albeit most of the time was in gold 3 and wasn’t able to reach plat). I do think that Glint is better than Shiro for condi builds (way better cleave damage and cc) but anyway the new legend should be way better with conditions and I do expect Mallyx + whatever to be a decent combo… Or at least was what I hoped until I saw the pets. The only pet build that works in the game is Mesmer and only because has stealth…
Oh you’re talking about pvp, no wonder. I was baffled when the other person said that about condi builds and glint. Was like “wtf condi revs don’t use Glint.” And they don’t, in pve at least. But pvp is another matter entirely. Not really familiar with what builds are best there. But for pve purposes, Renegade will probably be the elite spec to go with I imagine.
???
There is already a very obvious animation for the ground cascade. And no, it certainly does not need a longer recharge or energy cost.
They are never adding a new class to the game again people. Get over this idea already.
Don’t agree about elite specs at all. They have definitely improved the game and made things fun. I look forward to seeing what these new ones bring.
I do agree about Season 3 story being a bloody mess. It was all over the place and just not very good. So that does have me a bit concerned about where the xpac story will go.
OMG, haven’t been here in ages. People are STILL crying about hammer revs? Seriously? Revs do not need any more nerfs people.
My main since launch has always been ranger. I had a thief, but they just sat in my account for years gathering dust. Wasn’t even fully leveled. Then I leveled it to 80 and still didn’t do anything with it and it continued to gather dust. HoT hit and I went and picked up the elite spec and then just forgot about it once again. Then randomly since like March of this year I decided to play my daredevil. I don’t even remember why I decided to do this…I think probably because it wears medium armor and I could toss my ranger’s gear at it. But I quickly realized…dd is pretty fun. O_O And I’ve been playing it a ton for the past few months.
So….you want the content nerfed to the ground so that you can find groups more easily? I hope I’m reading this wrong. o_O Cause if not, that is kind of insane.
Raids are meant to be difficult content. And people love raids for that. Nerfing raids defeats the purpose of their existence. Yes, finding a group in lfg can be very frustrating to be sure. But nerfing the content to “solve” this issue is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. If you want to raid more reliably you really need to find a raiding guild. Or get on discord and join Raiders Inn or other groups like that.
I would love a new race or profession, but I’m pretty sure we aren’t going to see either. I do hope they will give us a new race someday though.
I have plenty of fun. And Raine is right. When it comes to difficult group content, it’s not just about YOU. It’s about the group. And someone walking in with a Celestial guardian or Soldier necro is a detriment to the entire group. You don’t need perfect meta to raid. You can get away with exotics. You can get away with a class that might not be meta, like a condi rev or a necro. But even if you play a class that is not considered meta you need to play it to the best of your ability and you need to play the best build for that class. You need to put some effort in. Otherwise you are being a drain to the group. You are just being carried. Now if you are upfront with your group and say you want a carry and they are perfectly ok with it. Then hell, go ahead. But don’t lie or try to be sneaky about it. You are just going to be found out in the end when people look at their dps meters.
(the “you” here is a general one, not one specifically directed at you op.)

Legendary items should be account bound. They are supposed to be legendary. They aren’t, if you can just buy them off the tp. That said, I DO think they are account binding too many things. I really wish more mats and things were tradable on the tp and not account bound. Don’t always have time to go around grinding for things and it would be nice to pick up some of these mats from the tp. Recipes, mats and basic things should be generally tradable.
After this very lackluster LW season 3 I am kind of concerned to be honest. I mean at first when there were hints that we would be traveling to Elona I was VERY excited. I like GW1 lore. But after the way they handled the lore this season….I don’t know if I want them touching it. They don’t seem to know how to use the lore properly and integrate it into the story well. The season was an absolute incoherent mess. It’s a shame really. Bringing in all this rich lore should be GW2’s time to shine, not stumble.
Oh well, I hope we get some good maps and features at the very least. -_-
Really? Asura, having the chance to glimps into an old order and ‘research’ its secrets? Asura are known to do anything for knowledge. Charr, after being booted out from the legions, being part of some order, the pact, fighting side by side with humans, even seraph, and you have a problem overcoming speci-ism? Then you were unfit to be a pact commander in the first place. Good thing one was replaced as one…
Um, no. Your Charr is never booted from their Legion. You are still a part of it. You still answer to the Citadel. And as I said, taking this oath is insanely stupid no matter what race you are. It’s just even MORE stupid if you are a Charr.
(edited by xarallei.4279)
Oh as for the map. Overall, I like the new map well enough. It has a fun feel to it. So that at least I don’t have any complaints about. Just the actual story chapter itself is very poor.
I was fine with the bosses in the episode. Self Doubt was very annoying at first, but once you realize the trick with the ghosts it’s fine. I absolutely loathed that puzzle in the first mission though. For the love of god, put that kind of crap as something optional and not a main part of the story.
(edited by xarallei.4279)
I thought this was the weakest chapter by far (in an already weak season). No real strong connection with the next xpac and the actual missions were very much NOT fun. Especially the first two. Those were torture and you gated the new zone behind those awful missions. >_<
As a Charr I was appalled at being forced to make a death oath to a human organization. That part made me so angry. I’m still angry about how poorly written it was. Hell, I think ANY race should be appalled at making that oath. Think about it, you are being asked to take this oath and you know next to NOTHING about this organization. Sure Shining Blade aren’t a bunch of nobodies, but how do you know they are still the good guys? How do you know they aren’t a bunch of evil kittens? How do you know they won’t BECOME a bunch of evil kittens? It’s absolutely crazy to make such an oath.
Next up, Livia. While I think GW1 lore is awesome I think it needs to be integrated properly and overall this was done poorly. Livia just came in out of the blue. No set up, no nothing. She should have been popping up for several chapters now. Plus I’m horrified at the way you dealt with the Mursaat. Just rez Lazarus for 5 minutes only to kill him off. Lame. So lame. I would have preferred him be resurrected and have a proper storyline with him.
(edited by xarallei.4279)
Yup. My charr ranger is the first character I created and the one I always run through all the stories with. Running through this particular chapter was awful. I was so angry at my player character and the lack of choices. Don’t see why they couldn’t have come up with an alternative path for someone who refuses the oath. If not, then they shouldn’t have had the oath in the story to begin with.
I thought Season 3 was pretty awful.
The story lacked cohesion and was all over the place. And some aspects felt forced like they were trying to hard to just wrap up story lines. The White Mantle/Mursaat plot was a huge victim of this. I’m pretty disappointed with the story at the end and just bringing Lazarus back to kill him off immediately. It was really lame to me as a fan of GW1 lore. And Livia was too much out of the blue. She should have had a role to play all for several episodes instead of just being crammed randomly into the last.
It’s such a shame. GW2 has good GW1 lore to pull from. They can create really great stories off that base. But instead they just made a huge mess of things. Like they just slapped things together without a care. You can’t just throw in GW1 lore and expect us all to be happy. You need to do a good job bringing it into the world of GW2, but Anet failed miserably I’m afraid.
Oh and don’t even get me started on that travesty of a storyline forcing me (a CHARR) to make an oath to a human organization. Ridiculous. I was so angry when I played through that. This is where Anet got very lazy. If they were going to do that they needed to have two story paths. One where you agree to take the oath and one where you refuse.
Anet, you need to learn a thing or two from Blizzard. WoW has all sorts of problems (mainly QoL issues), but one area it has you beat is story. Legion pulled from WoW’s past, only they did a great job with it. They been engaging, fun and emotional with the storytelling this xpac. With GW2 I find, I just don’t give a kitten . Seriously, I just don’t care about any of the characters. I guess if the old Destiny’s Edge characters were more involved I might care a bit more, but they are never really around. I’m kind of concerned for the story of the next GW2 xpac if this is going to continue being the kind of storytelling we are going to get.
Like Vitali said, if you plan on raiding you should be going for daggers. You can make dire ascended daggers and then flip them in the mystic forge to vipers. Cheaper than crafting a vipers set outright. And then craft a zerker staff so you can prepare a power set of gear as well. But you definitely want a condi set of gear too.
Oh and you get basically one free ascended weapon from that Caladbolg quest line.
(edited by xarallei.4279)
No. Not unless there is a way of learning other race’s skills or disabling them completely in everything but open world pve. I don’t want to feel pressured to reroll my class because some other race’s elite is better.
I have a fully geared druid. I have no reason to play ventari. It’s clunky and awkward. It would have been nice to have more dps buffs.
I’m completely against dps meters unless it’s a personal one. Lack of damage meters is part of what makes this game different and there is a certain amount of toxicity that comes with meters. This game still has one of the best MMO communities, but a meter would definitely damage it.
However, I think it’s important for people to be able to examine their damage and help improve themselves. So a personal meter would definitely be a useful tool.
Oh I love the idea of a Minstrel spec for Mesmers. Would give them the short bow since I think that is a bardish type weapon. Make it happen Anet!
Would also love a ritualist like spec for Revenant.
Cantha, Cantha and more Cantha.
Seriously, I do want to go to Cantha. Elona too, of course.
Out of these, the third solution seems the best. Though it’s still not quite ideal. I really hate the idea of JQ losing its identity to some generic team name or color based name. Remember with megaservers, WvW is the main focus for server identity.
If they added many more mastery points to the new living story maps then I might be ok with gold adventures rewarding Mastery Points. But they really should have never put MP on gold. Only maybe bronze and silver.
Anet, please in the future if you decide to add more of these adventures don’t tie mastery points or anything related to real character progression. Just reward fluffy things like titles or something.
I’m just really disgusted overall. Since HoTs release it’s been nothing but nerf after nerf. I don’t understand, the class is not too strong. You don’t see people stacking revs for everything. Why the hell do they keep nerfing rev? I’m pretty fed up at this point since both classes I play the most keep getting nerfs (rev and druid).
Yeah, I’m really disappointed. I’m a zerker and they really did nothing for zerk other than a maul buff which is a weapon we don’t use in pve anyway. If they decided to nerf baseline heals and buff our damage builds I’d be somewhat ok with this, but as it stands this sucks.
Zero reason for this nerf and it’s basically screwing more with zerker Ranger, which REALLY doesn’t need the nerf.
Yay, they nerfed both my mains Rev and Druid! Thanks so much Anet. /s
Seriously, you nerf Rev boon sharing and don’t even buff the class to make up for the fact that you took away the very utility that makes them useful. You also basically wrecked build variety for druids. And no love for power ranger either, which really needs it now. I’m really disappointed.
Hmmm, this is true. How much can we really trust these people? Who are they? What is the name of the company they use for this? I wouldn’t mind having more info about them.
I used to do CS for a large banking company in my area. We would occasionally have somebody call in & attempt to fraudulently gain control of a customers account. After the first attempt, notations would be made on the account to give the next CS rep a heads up. After the second attempt, the account would be marked as “Transfer to Fraud Dept Immediately” if the hacker called again and the account would be locked down. The customer would also be notified.
Long story short – At what point was Gaile notified and what, if any, actions were taken by your CS team to secure the account before it was compromised?
If this is how your CS team handles situations like this, then we have a problem.
Probably a few thousand problems.
There are a few.logistics.limitations that have come underaporeciated.
You, as a.bank, have access.to several.contact details, like phone, email address, fax whatsapp, person-to-person villager shouting train express, etc.Arenanet, however, only has your account and the mail associated with it as a method to contact you, so they can’t.exactly communicate with you through a ‘safe’ method as the mail is likely to have been ‘dobiously accessed’. There is also no local office where you’ll see an angry client will enter asking why their account was locked, so you can’t “bet” the client will get the initiative and ask.
They also might have contact.data based on purchases of.digital versions of things, but that they arent.exactly allowed to.keep as.they.don’t process it either.
I would gladly give them my phone number so they can verify with me personally if in the future some mysterious person decides they want to reset my password or something. I would also gladly even send them a photo id. Really would prefer stricter measures for account security in general.
No, Rose, you were correct.
I was never CS Lead. I was Support Liaison, and the thread I created and maintained was in place to allow me to review CS decisions and see if we could come up with a better outcome for players. It also allowed me to ask CS of they could handle tickets that may have lingered too long in the system, or have fallen through the cracks. I didn’t make CS decisions; I aided players in getting the most positive outcome possible. Get it? I wasn’t making decisions — I was helping players.
And whether I was CS Lead or not, saying “You deserved it” is inappropriate and cruel.
Saying I failed at that job — which incidentally I have not held in two years — is unfair and inaccurate. If an agent erred in handling someone’s issue, or if there were security issues that were not handled to the satisfaction of a player or group of players, whyever would it be seen as “karma” for me, personally, to suffer loss?
And saying “We/I did this to get your (company’s) attention” is reprehensible. Hurting a person to send a message is inhumane and wrong.
Gaile, is it true you lost your frog? ;-; I hope you can get your frog back if you lost it.
I’m not really happy with this answer at all. It seems to imply all is well and wonderful as long as you have an authenticator. But if any joe schmoe can just email support and ask for it to be removed than there is no point to the authenticator. If this guy was so easily able to get them to reset the email for him with the WRONG information (he posted what he wrote on Reddit and the only correct info he gave was her name, email address and the name of her character), then what is going to stop this same thing from happening when a “hacker” decides to remove an authenticator?
And there are reports that this is not a one off incident either. You need to retrain your CS staff or get a new company to do it. There needs to be more stringent measures for password resets and authenticator removals. You should not be able to get a reset with simply your name, email and name of character.

So, are we going to hear anything more substantive about this issue? Assurances that you won’t do this again?
Cats should not have boob plate. Even if you were going for a more feminine look, there should never be something like that on Charr.
Hi all,
Yesterday we released the precursor of ascended armor. For the Charr and Asura female armor we adapted the female-variant breastplate, flattened out, but still with cups. You’ve rightly pointed out that it looks incongruent with Charr and Asura female anatomy. We sometimes adapt male-variant and sometimes female-variant armor to use with female Charr and Asura, depending on what looks right for the armor in question. In this case it looks like a male-variant precursor breastplate, which would lead to the male-variant legendary breastplate, would be more in line with what we all expect for Charr and Asura female armor.
Today is one day after release; you’re presumably not that attached to your Charr and Asura female precursor armor yet. Would you like us to swap out the female-variant breastplate for a male-variant one?
Mo
Yes, change it. This boob armor goes against the spirit of those two races and certainly does not belong on a legendary/legendary precursor of all things. There are plenty of fun outfits for the minority who wants a more feminine look for their Charr or Asura.
Ok, the Anet post makes this all make sense. It was not clear at all that this was an irregular thing. Maybe next time release these “premium” sets alongside a normal ticket set to make it more clear.
That won’t do anything to reduce the anger players have towards this. The only things that would reduce the anger is to be promised that there will never be another set like this (and keeping that promise), the skins being made tradeable, and/or making the BLTC chests actually worthwhile to buy by removing the worthless items (leave those for the log in reward BLTC box).
Yeah, their answer does not satisfy my at all because there is no assurance that this won’t happen again. RNG lotto items are BAD. Especially when they are account bound like this. If I spend real money I want real results, not a “chance” at something.
I’d like more skimpy medium armor. There are so few choices for skimpy medium it’s not even funny.
Not an official statement, just a personal feeling here, because honestly, I feel I must…
I really don’t care what “reasons” someone feels they have for posting comments that include insults, name-calling, accusations (now known to be completely untrue!), or “justifications” for going off the rails.
We are all human beings. Human beings make mistakes, sure. But a human being is writing to you now, and several other human beings assessed this situation, another has already worked up the fix for this, and yet another will hit the button that will implement that fix.
We want to make you happy, and part of that is working with you to identify and correct the bugs we’re able to fix. Pointing to another issue, pointing to a disagreement about a BLTC offering, comments such as “Yeah, but this other time…” have no place in a reasonable conversation.
I believe this community can do better. No, I know we can.
Oh I know people need to calm down and give their criticism without resorting to insults. That doesn’t help anyone and just hurts people. It’s easy to go down that route though when you are anonymous on the internet. People need to be reminded that these are real people we are dealing with. Was just pointing out why I think people seem extra angry today.
I mean, I’m really angry about the untradeable thing myself but I’m trying my best to stay as civil as possible despite that. With this SW thing try to figure things out first before jumping to conclusions and calling it a nerf. Now we’ve already been told it’s not intended and people can calm down a bit.
I’m having flash backs to the RNG chests in blade and soul now, please dont go the same way NCSoft did and ruin it.
Please don’t bring up that abomination. The RNG in that game is a nightmare.
After all, by buying chests, you’re supporting the creation of the content that everyone plays. So it’s nice for there to be account-bound things in the chests in addition to the other tradeable items.
But don’t we do that anyway by converting gems to gold or buying makeover kits, gliders, outfits, and armor sets?
Exactly. They can have nice account bound things to support the game that we can buy directly without RNG.
I support this game constantly buying minis, outfits, etc. Things I can get without RNG involved.
This set of purely cosmetic skins still can ultimately be acquired either by purchasing them or by earning gold in the game and trading it for gems. If you like getting skins from the chests that can’t be obtained more cheaply through the trading post, use your claim tickets on these weapons. Or if you prefer tradeable skins, use your claim tickets for the other weapon sets, or acquire those weapon sets by trading for them with other players who bought them with claim tickets.
We on the dev team want to thank you again for taking the time to share your views with us.
But they cannot be gotten without playing lotto. I absolutely refuse to play lotto, whether it’s with my real life money or in-game money. Black lion ticket scraps and claim tickets are account bound and not tradeable. Only way to get them is with RNG lotto.
I’m horribly disappointed in Anet for doing this. The gem store has always been very fair in the way it handles things. While I dislike rng boxes, the way this game did them was good. Those who like to gamble, can gamble. Those who don’t like gambling and prefer to just buy the item they wanted can do that too. These new untradeable weapons…they put a bad taste in my mouth. It’s the type of thing I really despise. This is Blade & Soul level RNG tactics and it makes me fear that we will be getting more of this kind of thing in the future. Unless Anet comes out right now and promises they will never do something like this again, I will continue to be greatly concerned.
I’ve been playing Blade & Soul quite a bit these past few months because of the content drought here. But the absolute RNG BS that goes on in that game has finally just burned me out. It’s incredibly frustrating to deal with. So I’m basically probably just going to quit that game. It was a nice vacation though, but I was ready to come back “home” so to speak to GW2. Now this whole debacle has me thinking I should just go back to WoW. Which would be a shame because I definitely like GW2 more than WoW when it comes to combat, community and just overall fun.
I still love you Anet. I still love GW2. But this news makes me really sad and disappointed.
(edited by xarallei.4279)
The problem is that everyone is already upset about the untradable weapon thing going on (rightly so). So the snark has leaked into other topics I guess.
Still the whining about hammer? Seriously? It’s already been nerfed, it does not need another nerf. Not to mention it’s still very buggy.
This is a bit of an exaggeration. The game is still VERY casual for the most part. The only thing kind of disappointing is how long we’re going to have to wait for the Living Story to start up again. I also hope when it starts up that it’s longer than the previous ones. They’ve been way too short.
That’s sad. They really shouldn’t nerf it. Maybe nerf the champs at the hero points since people need those, but leave the rest alone at least.
I could have sworn they said that the soundtrack was recorded with an orchestra. Though I think there is some synth in certain pieces for sure.
