Since we are talking pve druid…so since they keep saying that druids might be necessary as heal support in pve raids what set ups are you guys planning? Would going clerics be good or cele? I’m sitting on a bunch of mats for ascended gear and am wondering what to go for as a second set. Not that I’m going to craft it until HoT comes out, but it’s nice to hear ideas.

Your PVE whining fuels my joy, Druid is kittening awesome and it is going to make pvp very, very fun with the ranger.

It is not a “Healing spec”, its a traitline which grants a pretty neat form with powerful healing, you still have two other traitlines… Some of the Druid traits look amazing, 5 bleed and immob on a 10sec CD every time you hit someone CCed? Dazes and stuns, extra stealth? Cleaning 13 conditions on entering form? Man, I’m going to have a blast playing this.

It perplexes me how you people still want just bigger numbers so you can kill dumb AI, not even effectively (Every prof already does that) but fast enough so that you get your little boxes with more boxes inside. Seriously, if you want decent PVE. ask for that. Stop asking for classes to be high DPS worthless kitten just so it can be “viable”.

Wow what an attitude to have. I am not a pvp player, but I never tell them to just shut up or say things like their complaints “fuel my joy.”

I do look forward to trying druid because I was a healer in WoW. But I also like to dps and will want to still do that from time to time. The new spec has no synergy if you want to be a dps spec in pve. If our core class was amazing, this wouldn’t be a problem. But our core class has issues. Now hopefully the new balance patch will fix this, but who knows…

And therein lies the crux of the issue. Our dps as rangers is very average / mundane, with a not-insignificant portion of it reliant on some very poor pet AI, and utility is severely lacking. Ranger, at least to me, conjures up the ranged dps archetype. It’s in the name *range*r itself — and at one point in the distant past at Anet, was certainly intended to be one of the top ranged dps classes.

I have no problem with the druid elite spec, it seems potentially very powerful as a direct healer based play style and a welcome option for those wanting to play a predominantly healing support role. I wonder about those of us who picked ranger to be a significant ranged dps class, while still bringing something to the table beyond just damage (which as noted is not great, in its current state). As it stands, having our pets a forgotten afterthought (particularly in WvW zerg craziness) in spite of being core to the class mechanic, and still unfixed after several years.. it is hard to have faith.

Again though, let’s see what the skill balance preview brings. Not everyone is going to want to play the elite specs all the time, and that applies across the board for all classes. I certainly appreciate the inherent complexities of trying to build and balance all the various styles and classes.

I think if they really worked on the base class then having druid is fine. It is a totally new playstyle, which is something they said they wanted elite specs to bring. But when you have a base class that is kind of weak and then throw in a new spec that does nothing to help that core profession then there is a problem. But yeah, we need to see what these balance changes are. That’s tomorrow. Saturday can’t come soon enough…

Exactly. The synergy between the core specs and druid is absolutely awful. There is literally no reason to bother with druid unless you want to be a healer. As a herald I can be dps OR I can be heal focused. As a chronomancer I can still go shatter or phantasm spec if I want.

I’m not like some people that hate druid completely, I do look forward to trying to be heal support, however, I don’t want to do that ALL the time.

I have mixed feelings. To be honest when I heard our spec was called “druid” I was kind of expecting it to be very heal oriented, so this did not surprise me at all. However, It’s kind of disappointing. No improved AoE, no strong dps support except for that one glyph. Druid as it is would not be very useful in the current state of PVE. However, Anet seems to keep saying HoT is going to change things up. So I suppose we can’t really judge the druid until the actual expansion is out. It could be very interesting. I mean I used to be a feral/resto druid in WoW so having a role doing some healing support would be nice. It’s definitely worth trying.

But, I am concerned with the total lack of synergy of the druid traitline with the rest of the core ranger. There are no damage modifiers or anything that would help buff damage. Many of the other elite specs allow you to spec into the elite spec and still maintain some of your playstyle. For instance, you can still be a death shroud focused reaper if you want. Or you can still be a shatter based chronomancer or a phantasm based chrono. There are things in the elite spec lines that are still useful for those playstyles. That’s just not true of the ranger. If I want to be a sword/axe power ranger or a remorseless greatsword ranger there is literally nothing for me to really take in the druid traitline. I suppose I just won’t take druid at all if I want to be dps.

It just feels like you would only ever take druid if you wanted to be heal support in pve. Or for pvp, the spec does seem like it might have some nice things for wvw and spvp.

However, Irenio did say that he was watching the forums and was aware of a lot of issues we’re having with base class. Suppose we can look forward to that balance stream and hope that it addresses our problems.

Ele has been in the meta for ages and is pretty much good at every game mode. You can’t compare ele to the state of rangers and necros. Yes, I feel bad that they didn’t give you the new playstyle you guys deserved. Still, ele is in a much better place.

As for the twitch presentation tomorrow…..either Anet is really super confident and will blow us away or druid is a mess and that’s the real reason we didn’t get a blog post today. I’m trying to be optimistic and hope it’s the former and not the latter.

Positioning is a very important part of game play and those things really put it out of whack.

Two Things can help.

1. Reduce the Charge-Hitbox so they fall in Line with their Body
2. Give the Charge a Line AE Field so we see the actual Size of it.

I am so sick of stepping to the side and thinking I am clear of the stupid teragriff charge only to end up getting hit by it anyway. It’s not really acceptable. Either make the hitbox in line with the size of the teragriff or give us an AoE indicator for their charge.

I think most people know that Anet isn’t doing this maliciously. I think most of the posts tend to be more of a mocking tone than a serious one. “Anet is deleting rangers!” Obviously no one actually believes that. But the class feels like it’s been a bit on the back burner and people are frustrated and lash out. I suppose we all need to calm down, but it would be helpful if Anet communicated more.

This game has almost completely catered to casual players. It’s practically ignored everyone else. If anything it needs much more content for non-casuals. And I’m sorry but ascended gear, while grindy is still very easy to get even for a casual player.

Well increasing the base damage of torment while standing still will be a good thing, but I’m not quite sure it will be enough to make condi rev viable in pve. If condi rev is going to be a master of torment that’s an issue because mobs just don’t move around that much in pve and if that’s our main source of condi that’s a problem. The torment while standing still would have to be significant to make up for this.

Oh I’m glad it seems the recharge on UA was a nerf. It’s really annoying seeing recharges on the utility skills. It ruins the feel of the class. Still would you would reconsider jade winds nerf at least for pve.

Where is it shown that HoT is anti-solo players? The game has tons of solo content, just because they throw a bone to organized groups does not make this any less true.

They need to stop adding kitten cool downs. It’s ruining the class. Why should revs have to deal with the double punishment of energy AND a cd?

Energy + cooldown is excellent to balance a class, and revenant was always meant to have both at the same time.

Rev utilities were NOT always meant to have both. They only started adding these recharges after.

I don’t like the changes to mallyx at all. It was a truly unique playstyle. And unyielding anguish was fun to use, not to mention useful at the right times. Now you made it completely uselss.

I was expecting some change to Unrelenting Assault because of all the pvp crying. I still don’t like this change at all and feel it’s an unnecessary pve nerf. But hey, at least it wasn’t raised to 15 seconds. Because then I’d really be raging.

I don’t like all these recharges being added to skills. It really ruins the feel of the class. What’s the point of energy if you are going to be adding cds constantly? It feels like double punishment. Jade Winds was great for pve too and you nerfed it by adding that recharge.

Well, at least the ventari changes seem good. And the change to crystal hibernation was also much needed.

They have a certain tavern in a certain map (will refrain from saying where because they are nice people and I don’t want them trolled) that they always hang out in and all they do is RP. No, he’s never specifically said what he wants to do as an alternative. He’s always been very vague about what exactly would be an appropriate amount of effort equal to raiding for these alternate activities and what exactly these alternative activities are. Now I know what they aren’t, he’s said stuff like role playing and sitting around LA would obviously not do it. But what does in his book?

How big are your hands? If you have very small hands, I recommend getting your hands on an OLD naga epic. The new naga epic chroma and the logitech g600 are much bigger than the old naga epic and very uncomfortable to use if you have small hands. I mean using these mice (I’ve have both) caused me 2 weeks of wrist and hand pain and having to wear a wrist brace. No joke. Ended up going back to using my old naga. I’m really worried about what I’m going to do. I can buy up a few old naga epics, but eventually the supply will run out and I don’t know of any other small mice like this. sighs

Anyway, the old naga epic was extremely comfortable (I used the classic grip) and didn’t take very long to learn to use. I highly recommend it. Now if you have larger hands, then both the g600 and the naga epic chroma are perfectly fine mice I’m sure.

Anet should have set the bar for legendaries very high at the start and they should never have been BoE. Because the first set of legendaries were so easy (if grindy) to get everyone now feels they are entitled to getting the new legendaries. Legendaries are meant to be a prestige item and should be difficult to get. You should have to master all the game modes to get them imho. They are supposed to have meaning. They are LEGENDARIES for a reason. It seems like Anet is trying to correct their mistake this time around at least…

The pet naming thing is very small, but I must admit it bothers me a lot. And I don’t know that I buy the waste of space argument….I mean WoW allows you to name all your Hunter pets and it allows people to name their minipets. You know how many minipets are in that game? Hundreds…

I know WoW is a much bigger game and rakes in tons of money (though it’s slowly dying), but I would think GW2 is big enough that they can do this.

Only one beta weekend to give feedback and our core profession is still bug ridden. Eles might be upset over tempest, but ele is strong and will always have a place at least. Ranger is still a red headed step child. It needs to come out of the gate in HoT very strongly and it must make a good impression or else it we will have to face “looking for raid, no druids/rangers”.

Oh I’m curious. Ventari is probably my least favorite legend due to the clunky tablet. If things were made smoother I would definitely like to try ventari out again.

I like revenant so much I think I’m going to roll two of them. One will be the Shiro/Glint that I have been planning on and the other will be condi or perhaps, if ventari gets fixed, it will be support.

I would be perfectly ok with them splitting the skill in pve and pvp and then tweaking it in pvp only….but I’m doubting they will do that. That is definitely one of the better choices, but I can’t help but think it’s the least likely to happen.

I enjoyed Rev so much this beta. It feels wonderful and complete. All the previous betas it felt off, but it was getting closer. Even considering the issues in the early stress test I still felt it was a class with much potential. Now it feels like it has realized that potential and I can see it having a GREAT spot in pve. It’s nice to look forward to being useful and wanted for once. Though I’m still praying for druid to work out, but I kind of don’t have much hope there. But maybe I will be surprised, who knows…

UA is our main burst skill for pve. It should NOT have an increased cd, it should not be nerfed in damage and it needs the evade. There were plenty of suggestions in the other thread on how to change it so people can dodge it once and those suggestions do not affect pve.

And hammer 2? That animation is so obvious I find it hard to believe people are actually getting hit by this. Though I would be ok with a small increase to the cd.

You shouldn’t throw the balance/weaknesses of an entire class on a flashy skill most ppl don’t understand :P

Hehe, I wasn’t being very serious there. Should have used an emote. I wouldn’t ask for condi cleanse if UA got nerfed, I would ask for it to be unnerfed or for compensation elsewhere. But anyway, lack of condi cleanse is a valid weakness for shiro/glint. It can be rough at times, but glint’s heal helps mitigate some of that at least. If only all those pvpers would condi the revenant, he would melt like butter. Instead they complain op this or op that. They don’t even try to understand the class and its skills and weaknesses.

Now it’s AA that is op? I’ve heard it all. UA is op, hammer is op, glint heal is op, rev condi is op, now sword aa is op. Pvpers just want the class gutted at this point. AA was buffed because last beta it was mediocre. It does not need a nerf. The class is in a good place for pve. There are ways to address these issues without ruining the class.

maybe just scale UA to do more damage the more opponents there are within a 360 radius .

reduce it for only 1, keep it where it is for 2, and buff it slightly for 3+

Terrible change for pve. You need a hard hitting ability for bosses not trash.

No. That’s terrible. The suggestion to put most of the damage at the end of the attack is a better approach and doesn’t make it useless for pve. And we already have a suggestion thread for UA.

I didn’t notice it being any easier than the last beta.

The one thing that was annoying….things were way too easy in a zerg. Stuff just melts like butter. I’m not sure if that’s a scaling issue or what. Solo, on the other hand, I think was fine.

Diarmid was perhaps bugged when I did that fight. He just stood around and didn’t really do anything. Everyone was able to melee him with no problem. I don’t think I even had to dodge once.

what is a high ranked pvp player for you? they most of the time dont bother going to the forums because they know about the kitten people say here. saw it a couple of times. the come to the forum to complain and get called l2p

(i talked abit with chozen and lyp on this. they agree, that you should be able to dodge the initial hit and therefor prevent it completly. i play esl on a regular basis and won a couple of cups and i was in top25 teamq pre december couple of times. idk if that counts as high ranked pvp player for you tho)

I would be ok with a change like that because then it would not hurt the pve side of things. The damage must remain and it must have the evade. That cannot change. Period. But making it so that if someone dodges the first hit the rest misses is ok I suppose. Or going with the other idea where the most damaging portion is on the final hit. That is ok as well.

And NO a longer cd is not acceptable for pve purposes.

It can be dodged. But just like Ranger’s rapid fire you can’t dodge all of it, but most of it can be dodged. Not to mention the second you have another person or pet around the damage goes down considerably. So mesmers, necros and rangers can easily mitigate damage without even having their team mates around.

Please stop trying to get things nerfed over 1v1 pvp. You just end up gutting it in pve.
