Just wait til the guys doing dungeons come back with better gear then you and kick your teeth in. You will wish then hadnt come back.

yep, scary to think what their gear will do against 3 ballisatas, 2 trebs, and 4 arrow carts reigning down on the ascended shiny gear.

Shiny armour with 8% bonus means squat in a game mode based on siege and tactics.

if that were true, the screaming about the orbs would not have been so…..loud.

The actual truth about the new gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: xtorma.1283

xtorma.1283

So…. Where is all the complaining about wvwvw not being fair for upscaled players fighting against decked out 80s? You won’t notice any real change in damage from going from exotic to ascended, he’ll you hardly notice anything from Masterwork to Exotic, but you notice a hell of a lot of difference from upscaled lowbie to geared 80. People need to stop the crying about ascended gear already. A new tier isn’t going to make anything easy mode nor is it going to make anyone god mode. It will make things slightly, and I do mean slightly, easier but unless you’re going from white/fine gear to ascended you’re probably not going to notice any change at all, much less those going from exotic to ascended.

If this were the case, then my question is why do it? Why cause so much division over something that supposedly makes 0 difference.

They could have done the exact same thing without the gear increases and all your points would have still been valid.

Actually that is true. I agree completely.

What I’m saying I guess is that the gear increase is so minor, it doesn’t really change anything.

It provides a tiny carrot for those who want it, without actually affecting the game for those who don’t want to go for it.

As they add more and more ascended gear slots, it will eventually become noticable, especially in wvw. It will eventually be like allowing people to grind for orb bonus’. You have a point about the people who drone on and on, but those folks who come here once, and state thier opinion, and never come back are true casualties in a war that never had to be fought.

The actual truth about the new gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

xtorma.1283

So there is a lot of complaining about the new ascended backpiece and rings. Lots of very emo people about a change that really is very minor in terms of the impact of the 3 gearslots on the game itself. No, it is not some kind of insane grind, not at all.

(On a separate note, it actually feels like some people are “grinding” the whine-o-meter on the forums, if you get my meaning.)

However, in game, I notice something very different to what is on the forums.

I see people making groups for FOM, all the time, day and night. Right now, there’s just line after line of people making groups in LA to do FOM at varying difficulty levels ranging from 1 to 6, and groups going to AC and CM explorable.

I see people talking about the new dungeon and enjoying it a lot, as it is probably the best dungeon in the game.

People are playing more. They are not running Orr for the 100,000th time. They are in fact, having fun, and feel like they’re progressing by going up the difficulty levels of FOM.

No one is talking much about their ascended items. The occasional person links an item and everyone says grats. It has no impact on WvW, and no one cares what you’re wearing when doing the new dungeon.

People wear their “FOM level” with a degree of pride. There is a sense of progression and ego, like being a hardcore raider, but it’s not about the gear: it’s about the skill in going up the levels and being a level 10+ FOM player.

But here’s the main thing.

Just consider if you will what things would be like without the FOM level, without this new sense of progression.

We would still be in Orr farming karma. Please tell me that wasn’t starting to get old, or would have gotten old by December.

We actually have been given something new to do. And we don’t need to do it, but we can – and it is fun to do. This strikes me as a very good thing.

The game is progressing, and continuing to develop and add new things.

I don’t want a stagnant game. I do not want for gear to matter, it should be a game of skill before all – and it still is. All they have done is add a bit of “dungeon level” progression for those who want to go a bit further in their PVE.

- Agony is pretty much a mechanic just to add to this sense of progression.

- Agony does not affect fights against other players in WvW. People with ascended gear will not two shot you in WvW.

- It doesn’t make people more powerful than you outside of that 1 dungeon.

They will not do 2x your dps, or fly like rockets into the sky leaving you behind. They have a tiny bit more stats on 3 item slots, and the ability to slot for agony resistance to do 1 dungeon at level 10+.

That is all that has happened. Let’s take a deep breath, put away the handbags and stop acting like children. No one came to your house and lied to you and slept with your sister.

All they did was add a new backpiece (btw it feels like that’s the “event upgrade slot”, I bet every new event has a new backpiece of some sort) and rings, and a way of progressing up the levels of a new and well designed, fun FOM dungeon, to which they can add fractals later to add even more variety.

Relax and enjoy.

Or don’t. It’s not like you’re paying a sub. Just go play something else till you cool off and want to play GW2 again, it’s not going anywhere.

Believe me, after playing WoW or Rift for a week, you’ll be wanting to return. Or go play Black Ops 2, now that is one seriously bug-ridden game. Anyway.

Flame on!

They could have done the exact same thing without the gear increases and all your points would have still been valid.

Been a great match so far… A lot of fun. I can see how this will go down now.

SoS wins it will be because of the event and PvE, and thanksgiving. If SoS loses then it will be because we don’t belong. So it is a lose/lose situation for SoS. The way I see it we are playing hard doing what we need to do to control the map points. I am just happy to be playing in T1. We are playing to win, but win or lose we have accomplished what we set out to do and get to T1

Anyone with half a brain will not try and make excuses.

Guild Wars 2: The Best MMO Ever Made.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: xtorma.1283

xtorma.1283

I have to agree that this is the best MMO (in my opinion). It’s not perfect, but there is zero appeal to all other MMO’s now that I’ve played GW2. I just can’t stomach playing an MMO where the following are part of the game design:
1) A subscription fee
2) Punctuation marks over NPC’s heads (what is this, Sesame Street?)
3) Quests that you have to use your imagination to buy into (centaurs attacking the town my eye)
4) Raiding (/puke)
5) Kill stealing and resource stealing
6) Quest competition instead of cooperation
7) Gear-based PvP
8) Level disparity discouraging cooperative play in lower level areas

I agree with everything you said here. Especially the subscription fee part. How can anyone pay for a subscription fee in an MMO anymore after seeing the ones out now that are F2P and higher quality than anything that has been released before?

I can’t believe people still play an 8 year old MMO and act like its the greatest thing ever, and they pay 15 dollars a month for it! Look how long they take to release a content patch as well. Paying for nothing.

It would seem millions of people disagree with you

I have no idea how programming or debugging or whatever works. I am like a computer infant, but if i had to make a guess based on simply common sense, I would guess that in computer code, one thing leads to another, and one thing can have profound effect on other things. If this is the case, then the less people you have debugging, the more efficient it would be.

nope.

Proper coding is done modularly and in essene can be pulled apart and fixed as many discrete part. though in practice you get limited on how many physical humans you can keep in harmony, 2 being laughably bad and 10-20 pretty nice.

What has happened is Anet has simply put a very very low priority on bug fixin and a very high one on content, presumably because balance isnt going to sell gems as fast as new content.

“There is always going to be players who just don’t get MMO’s and want everything handed to them with no time put in, they are looking for a “fair” arcade beat em up, in the wrong place.”

I love how I’ve played and gotten bored of nearly all MMOs on the market and generally enjoy most of them for a bit (until I need to start 100% grinding) so I must obviously want to play mortal kombat.

Sorry mate, square hole round peg, stop trying to force me through your pre conceptions.

Do you see the irony? You end up leaving because most MMO’s make you grind. Well that’s because that’s how MMO’s work. My point being, you are looking for a game that is not an MMO, but yet still trying to find it while playing MMO’s.

You’re welcome for the revelation.

Most mmo’s presidents didn’t create press releases saying you don’t have to grind either. I don’t need to link it to you right?

Competitive 8 vs 8’s with no attatchment to your level, all players have access to same skills, and gear, completely fair.
No questing, you just participate instead and get xp and credit…
That’s two common MMO “grinds” that GW2 killed right there off the bat.
Yea seems he kept his word to me…….. This game has less grind than any other true MMO out there.

That being said of course there is other aspects of the game, of this MMO, that need to have progression. If you can’t see past your own selfishness to see the whole long term picture, I really don’t know what else to say to you.

I don’t agree or disagree with you. I just think you have rose colored glasses on , and want to try and make people feel bad because they don’t own a pair. I play the game every day, and i love it. That does not take away from the fact that labeling people as whiners for expressing thier feeling about a product they bought is petty, especially when they have some cause to be concerned.

To the op. The only constant is change. If I were to take a guess, I would think that if the president of a company makes the decision to go back on something they said about the direction of the company, then it more than likely is an economic issue.
Afterall, he is ultimatly responsible for the profitability of the division he is president of.

WvW and RPers are not ‘casual’ players but also are the most loyal supporters of a horizontal progression like we had until ascended gear was introduced.

I don’t rp, don’t have the imagination for it. I will say one thing about rp’ers though, they are gaming companies dream clients. If any game they play lacks a bunch of content, they just make up thier own. A bar with a couple stools and a griffin head mounted over the fireplace can keep them occupied for months.

Just remember gaming companies, if you don’t want to incite the ire of roleplayers in your game, make it so they can sit down on the stools

I for one like the new dungeon and ascended gear.
For the moment they dont affect wvw much, the backpack cost a fortune and the ring have random stat on it. And only 3 piece doesnt affect your overall effectiveness much. But if they add more they would have to add some ascended gear to wvw as well.

I mean its not like there isnt already different quality of gear(i pvp in mostly green and i dont mind it much), you already have to ’’grind’’ for exotic. This is just the next step and i dont expect them to add a new tier of gear before a long time.

Seems like the difference of overall effectiveness beetween ascended exotic is about 15% , so whats the big deal? I understand its only obtainable in dungeon atm but they said that will change so why so much hate. What if the game started with rare as the best quality and they added exotic later on?

15% was the difference between having all three relics and having none in wvw, and you see where that ended.

_*Do people think, in general, that these forums (and game forums in general) are so negative because the people who are really enjoying themselves just play and don’t come here to whine?*

The reason why Ascended gear was introduced was because player feedback, arguably in this forum, told ArenaNet that people wanted more “progression” in the game.

If complaining worked to get a gear treadmill, do you really think people should stop complaining against it?

IMO, those complaining about the complaints (lol?) are being somewhat hypocrites, since they were complaining about the game until a very short while ago.

Business normally does not do things without a decent amount of research involved. Especially when millions of dollars are involved.

I wonder what the research they did told them about the player loss/gain ratio attributed to the gear change? Unless they are completly inept, they had to know there would be some repercussions.

It would make sense to me that they imagined a pretty high number here, for them to have made these changes so quickly, without giving the original model a chance to work.

This actually brings up another question. Content takes time to plan, develop and test. The game has been out 2.5 months. I wonder just how long ago they decided to go with this tweak to thier model. The cash shop is pretty baren, just a few choices of gear skins and town clothes. It almost seems like they didn’t even try to me.

I wonder how long they had actually been planning to do this.

You know What I would do if I was a dev company. I would never tell anyone any thing about future plans EVER!!!!!

If the second something small changed a bunch of people can roll around kicking a scream after playing 600 hours to get their money back. It’s too risky.

This is why game companies lock everything in the vault and don’t tell people what they are working on.

The ONLY thing you do is hurt the industry as a whole. It a HUGE risk for companies to build and try new things cause some times they don’t work and they still need to make a profit.

GW2 tried to be more then a WoW clone, For that at least they deserve 60 bucks.

Why the rage?
And it’s not small change. It’s a huge change. In game’s philosophy. They did try to be different than WoW-clones, for 2.5 months. The moment they started to turn their back on this ideology, that’s when people have started asking for refunds.

No rage,

I’m just saying you people are not fighting the man or improving anything. You are just making thing worse.

GW2 launched a game that tried to be different. Maybe it will work, Maybe it won’t.

But we got our monies worth for that. If you deiced the new changes are not to your liking, Stop playing, Stop spending money.

Then they see, Hey we made money with this idea, Then lost money with this idea.

The holy crap I want my money back because you tried something and want to test something new to see if can boost player count and the amount of to nothing usefull.

If I want to make a game that tries something new, Now I am at a huge risk.

1) My new risk might not work.
2) If I change to try and make it work, People can take the money back even though they played for 60 bucks.

You now what the people who right the checks to pay for games will say. Don’t do something new. Make a clone cause it’s easy profit.

1. that is why it’s called a risk
2. They never came out and said it wasn’t working. They just did it. Look at the cash shop. It’s a barren wasteland. It should be packed full of skins to sell. The first new dungeon they created went directly for a gear increase, they didn’t even try to see if new awsome skins would be just as desireable. It’s like they didnt even try to make thier model work. they just abandoned it.

Personally, i will never ask for a refund, but that is only because I care about the poor guy who works in the basement at anet, has three kids and a wife, and drives an old beat up volvo.

And I like wvw :p

I don’t think it can be. The same people who asked for gear progression, will ask again when they get all the gear. There is no reason to believe that they will not listen to them.

I don’t think they want people to have a bad time. I think that would be a stupid way to do something. I think all these events are designed to do is set the tone for the new content, introduce the storyline, and allow the community to come together and have a little fun.

The way i see things though , they could have had like a 5 dungeon token reward just to get folks started for doing all the events, and then put an npc up to give out 5 tokens to those who had to miss it. Oh well, just the way it is.

Wow People with 600 hours played after paying 60 bucks.

What joke.

You got your monies worth.

Now you want to unpay for it for what they gave you. If you don’t like stop playing and stop spending money. But if you played for 600 hours, They gave you enough.

Personal opinion.
